Just one more volume and the saga of Marin and Wakana is complete. I have already read the last serialized chapter, and I hope the last volume has more bonus chapters to pad the page count. It took 14 volumes for the mysterious “Non-Chan” to make her appearance but my boy Gojo already knows what to say to his former childhood friend. Then there’s the confession and the clingy, “angy” chibi monster it created. I can’t believe it’s the end, but the author ended their story while it renewed interest from the anime and the Mandate of Heaven arc. At least they escaped their series turning into a joke like that one about a girl who rents her time for money. This will be a series I’ll be rereading in the future. I’m glad I followed and bought all the volumes until the end.
I cried like an absolute baby at the confession scene. It was so good! I'd heard people felt that the end of the series was rushed, but I don't necessarily feel that way? I would've liked more, of course, but the confession was what they'd been working towards the last couple of volumes and it really did have that emotional pay off! The rest of the chapters after felt like sweet extra chapters, with the epilogue being a really nice final chapter! This was a lovely series and I'm glad I read it!
Last volume ended with Marin’s popularity exploding and Gojo’s head exploding as he was consumed with jealousy. Now, as things are rough between them, here comes the girl who messed Gojo’s confidence up as a kid, ready to admit she didn’t mean what she said and it’s obvious rivalry time. Plus, Marin finds out that she may be ruining Gojo’s own aspirations.
Most of what I wrote is true, but what isn’t true is what makes this a cracking good volume. Specifically, I had been dreading that girl from the start coming back because I just knew if she did that she’d after Gojo. It was so obvious.
Instead, we get to see just why Gojo latched on to hina dolls and how Non tried to help him while he was still consumed with grief over his parents’ passing. Her efforts got brushed aside when Gojo left and she lashed out, accidentally screwing him up.
And now that the family has returned… she apologizes for how she was. It’s really rather nice and hearfelt, plus she assumes Gojo and Marin are dating already anyways and isn’t that type of person. I love this choice a whole lot; there’s enough going on here.
The real story comes when Gojo and Marin are sorting out the very, very awkward moment between them at Comiket. To say there was a communication breakdown is an understatement and because they keep not talking about it, well, it gets worse.
Finally, Gojo goes to have a face to face and when he starts admitting his jealousy over Marin doing what she loves he gets a sudden realization that he has become what he hated, but cannot help what’s coming out of his mouth.
While this looks to be the end for our very dynamic duo, there remains but one inescapable truth: Gojo is not Marin, and Marin is not Gojo. And while this may all come together quickly, I think it’s absolutely believable because of who these two are and what they’ve been through.
The way this plays out is very unconventional, but all the more delightful for it. In confronting his feelings and being open about them, Gojo shows just how much Marin has helped him change.
And, you know, Marin has wanted to hear this for ages anyway and Gojo’s reaction was also predicated on an assumption he is erroneously making. Let’s just say that it works out.
Oh, hell, it’s wildly entertaining. The aftermath of this is hysterical and fits Marin’s personality to a tee. The way she sits after all this shakes out is so ridiculous, but very believable for her. Marin was already plenty affectionate, but seeing her unleashed is kind of amazing.
As the last stop on an emotional journey, it is an incredibly satisfying bit of business. This has been up and down on occasion, but the overall quality has been super strong and this pays it all off wonderfully. Hopefully the final volume will be just as good, but this one got it right.
5 stars - a really great payoff that rewards the reader for having enjoyed it all to this point. Looking forward to the conclusion next time, but this just nailed it.
There is, of course, more that I wanted to read, gaps that I wanted to fill, scenes that I wanted to experience. But I cannot thank the mangaka for wrapping up this beautiful series in such a sweet way.

What a trite conflict. Two main themes of this series are 1) opening up to others and 2) being supportive / finding support. And yet in volumes 13 and 14, Marin and Gojo decide to shut down and not communicate in the slightest. Marin acts completely out of character. Gojo forgets everything he’s learned through the series. A simple explanation would have solved everything. And guess what? IT DOES. That doesn’t excuse the characters getting themselves in that position.
What was the point of properly introducing Non-chan at this late stage of the series? She gets a chapter to explain that maybe someone didn’t actually mean to be mean to Gojo. It was just another miscommunication and I guess intended to reinforce Gojo’s and Marin’s current issue. We get to meet the person who put Gojo in his situation at the start of the series, but she is just used as a trial run for him to speak his mind before he immediately heads to Marin’s.
All the stuff with the writer and editors REALLY needs to pay off in the last chapters. I doubt it can. So much focus has been diverted from our established characters just so these guys can say “wow she’s incredible” and talk about finding her. Over and over. Oh boy, more tweets. Cool.
Volume 13 was a letdown for me. 14 was just a plain disappointment. I pray 15 improves so I don’t end the series with a bad taste in my mouth.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. Even though it can be considered an ecchi manga, to me it felt more like a love letter to cosplay in all its forms. It’s clear that the author did their research—and, judging by their notes, very actively so.
I really liked the characters. I strongly relate to Marin’s beliefs and to the story’s core message: “no one should ever feel embarrassed about loving the things they love.” In the manga, this is expressed through cosplay for Marin and dolls for Gojo, but the idea applies to all of us.
As for the romance… I understand it was meant to be a slow burn: she fell first, he fell harder. But at times it felt like he never really fell at all. Yes, he confesses in the final chapters, but we never actually see them holding hands, going on a date, or sharing more romantic moments. There were a couple of sweet scenes at the beginning and at the very end, but most of the middle was filled with side plots. Not bad in itself, but I would’ve liked more romance in between.
The ending also felt a bit abrupt. We go from never even seeing them hold hands to suddenly being shown married—with only one kiss in the entire story. I just wanted more!
Still, I’d give the story a 3.7/5. I don’t think it’s a series for everyone, but its final message definitely is: Never be ashamed of who you are or of the things you love.
Shinichi plays with the costumes we wear in life to tell a heartwarming nostalgic story of young budding love, friendship and passion for art expression. In doing so, she actually delves into identity, self acceptance and growth by collaboration.
I only read this manga series because I first fell in love in the anime. It starts slow and really doesn’t promise much, but it builds slowly and by the end, it’s such an earnest and wholesome story. It transported me back to how it felt being young and in love, decades ago.
To the author, I saw how much care, heart and effort you poured into Marin and Gojou;
More of a 3.5 star rating; I really like that despite the miscommunication/lack of communication at first, Gojo finally managed to talk to Marin about why he was so quiet at the Comiket and we finally got a confession. It was adorable and so was seeing Gojo’s friendship with Usami (the craft store worker). It was also pretty amusing to seeing how difficult it is to find Marin and her cosplay’s account despite how popular her most recent cosplay has been. Overall, I’m curious and eager to see what happens in the next and final volume.

I don't know why I thought this was the last volume, but we still have one more to go before this lovely series is over.
However, it's finally happened!! Gojo and Marin have confessed their feelings for one another, and these two opposites are now together, and I am so happy. Gojo, my man, you have come a long way, and the whole confession scene was just perfect.
Finally, the confession! It’s hilarious how Marin pounces on him and then goes all koala as soon as she discovers their feelings are mutual. Gojo didn’t know what hit him, poor guy. And gramps, surprised they weren’t already dating.
Gojo resolves his childhood trauma, but that was a short blip that I didn’t really feel made much impact. I do think the comment Gojo made in response to Shiba sensei might get noticed…

Per me è stata leggerezza, semplicità e gioia!
Quando avró periodi neri sapró dove rifgugiarmi ♥️ Grazie mille!
This is the volume the fans have been waiting for. On top of a long awaited conversation between Gojou and Kitagawa, Gojou also gets an opportunity to meet the childhood individual responsible for making him feel guilty about his love of dolls. It's an odd juxtaposition for the character as they are shown to be both mature and caring and immature and callous in the same chapter. Still, the entire volume is full of emotion and hits right in the feels.
Aaaaaahhh!!! Finally it has happened! The long awaited confessions! Man it was looking really rough there and everyone was in their own thoughts but it all worked out. Then the Haniel costume is still making waves and getting international attention. Can't wait to see how things go in the next volume.
I wanted to read more about it, I wasn’t expecting that because Goyo didn’t give a loooooot of vibes that he liked Marin and the volume 13 gave me a bad feeling with the ending, but it fix it, I didn’t expect that Goyo was jealous for all that people looking at Marin. Amazing volume, I’ll say it’s my favorite

I finished!!!!! Overall for the whole series I would rate this 3.75/5. It was a cool cosplay story. Literally the only thing, and I've mentioned this so much, is how sexualized Marin is shown. Lordy, I felt like a creep sometimes and I'm an 32 year woman.
