Introduces various creatures found in rain forests throughout the world, and invites young readers to feel an anteater's sticky tongue, a monkey's velvety fur, and other textures
If you follow my reviews, you know I have a love-hate relationship with touch books. This one is a lovable adventure through a rain forest. Lots of fun things to touch - and they all feel different. You also get to learn some stuff about the rain forest as you go.
Moral: Rain forests are wonderful landscapes to find a variety or organisms that you will probably only see, touch and feel in this book.
Length: Longer than you think with all the heavy petting and peek-a-boo flaps.
Favorite Line: “A monkey hides up in the tree. Feel his fur, so velvety. Who is he hiding from? Can you see?”
Overall Impression: There’s a lot happening on this Nature Trail, but none of it involves a story. But in this instance, so much fun stuff is happening, adding on a plot and characters would have been too much. So Pledger is forgiven. So what can you expect in your journey down the trail? Things are hiding throughout the book, sometime you touch the creatures, sometimes you just count them. The best part is you’re learning about the critters who make the habitat of a rain forest home. Not much to hate here… it’s a good choice for parents who are sick of telling their kids “don’t touch a shark” only to have the book say “touch the shark.”
Clare loves the touch and feel pages. It amazes me how she responded to this book. I showed her once how to feel the different textures and the next 100 times through the book she found the textures each time!
