It happens in a blink of an eye. One misstep causes an accident that leaves me with scars I’ll have forever. I’m lucky to be alive—if it weren’t for the quick-acting fireman who not only saved me from further damage, but stayed with me and cared for me through the night, I would have been left for dead. Now I’m recovering, months later, and he wants to keep seeing me. I just have no earthly idea why. He already went beyond the call of duty. Am I a charity case, or does he somehow see me under all the damage the accident caused?
It happens in a blink of an eye. One minute I’m alone in the woods enjoying much-needed time off from the demands of my job. The next, I’m completely under the spell of the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid eyes on. The woman I know is going to be mine forever. She doesn’t understand that my intentions are good, but she will. She doesn’t understand that whenever I set my mind and heart to something, it’s already mine. But she will.
PENN is a short story but it’s packed with heart and steaminess! This a low-drama, insta-attraction, feel-good read with a guaranteed HEA. It’s Book 1 in the Cinder County Fire Dept series. Enjoy!
Hi! I’m a mama of four living my dream writing romance out in the country with the love of my life! I’m a busy bee like you, so writing & reading short romance is my jam. I hope each of my stories makes you smile, makes you sigh, makes you...swoon. ;) Most of all I hope you reach “The End” feeling ever-inspired and optimistic. With me, it’s always safe, steamy & sweet, with happily-ever-afters guaranteed!
Penn is the first book in the Cinder County Fire Dept. series and I thought this was a wonderful story that had heart and heat. Penn is a firefighter who is in his first year but has never actually fought a fire yet. Hearth is a young woman who writes, but has not published a book yet. They meet in the forest just as Hearth has a horrible accident with hot grease and Penn is there to help save her. She ends up in the hospital for months, most of it drugged so much for pain that she is barely conscious. Penn was attracted to Hearth when he first saw her and even though he barely knows her, he still knows she is the one for him. So he visits her in the hospital as much as he is able to, and after a time when Hearth comes too she remembers his voice and some of what he tells her. Hearth was disfigured in the accident and when she is able to leave the hospital Penn wants to be there for her, but she is not ready for that and pushes him away. These two are intimate characters without being intimate. But when they finally are they are on fire for each other. I loved this heartfelt story that has pain and loss, but also new beginnings and finding yourself once again. I am so happy that the author is publishing again and can't wait to read the rest of the books in this series.
Penn works as a firefighter has a goal of buying a sprawling land; he seeks quiet away from the station. Where he has been going to his land for the last 3 years so it is like his; now he senses a woman there cooking something that smells great. Her fire is too hot for the meat and when she tries to lift the grate;she trips backward with the grate landing on her face. Penn as works as EMT so he rushes to the river to wet his shirt for her face. He follows her wish not to go to the hospital yet. Penn tries to visit her at the hospital, but he must wait until she is ready. He wants to see her; will she finally allow him? Hearth is her name and wants to be a writer. Will she be able to see to write? Is it possible for them to have a future together?.

I loved Penn: Book 1 of Cinder County Fire Dept. Penn was surprised to find someone in his secret camping spot. He wasn’t sneaking up on Hearth, she knew he was there but she didn’t see him before the accident. Thank goodness he was there, he saved her but she scared and her future is uncertain. She doesn’t understand why he keeps coming around and she tries to push him away. She wasn’t beautiful before and now it’s worse, he can’t be series. Penn won’t give up on Hearth, he knows the beauty within her. I loved the story and the characters. I woukd definitely recommend this book.

Penn is a rookie firefighter and on a hike when he runs into a steak grilling woman. He sees Hearth and is instantly enthralled by her. When she gets injured by the grill on her face, he is there to help her. In the months after the accident Penn stayed by her side ,but Hearth is heartbroken and kind of overwhelmed by all of it. But Penn fell in love and now he just has to show her how well they good be together 😏 Instalove, OTT, super sweet, romantic , with steam, protective hero, short and safe with an awesome HEA and no OP drama😍😍😍😍
Penn is a firefighter who likes his alone time in the mountains. Hearth is camping on the mountain cooking on a fire when things take a painful turn. I loved how protective and caring Penn was over Hearth and how that chance meeting changed their lives forever. Penn is a heartbreakingly beautiful sweet love story that had me cheering the characters on to get their happily ever after. This is book one and a fabulous start to the Cinder County Fire Dept series. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Tarin Lex kicks off a brand new series, Cinder County Fire Dept. with Penn, a swoony instalove romance. When off-duty firefighter Penn rescues Hearth, he falls for the woman. As she recovers from damage from the fire, she cannot understand why Penn continues to hang around and care for her. How long before she realizes his care and kindness is about more than professional courtesy? A steamy and sweet instalove romance.

Hearth is camping in the mountain and she lucky Penn shows up when he does. An accident happens that if she was not wearing glasses she would have lost her sight, leaves her with scarring. Penn is a new firefighter but also a medic and treats her when she refuses go to the hospital.

This review actually makes me sad because I really wanted to like this book. The story had so much potential to be one that tugged at your heartstrings but it just fell short. The writing felt disjointed and jumped from scenario to scenario. And if she had been burnt that badly in the face her pain would have been so bad she wouldn’t have been able to lay there all night and not go to the hospital. Just was off for me.
What a great start to a brand new series by Tarin! The story of Penn and Hearth, I love the way he cares for her after only meeting her once. He is there for her when she needs him the most and it will lead them to their happily ever after!.

A horrible accident has Penn helping Hearth when she trips backwards as she is holds a hot grill. Emotional? yes. Attraction is there but it will take some time to make it happen. Short read but loved every minute of it!.

This book was sweet and cute. Penn and Hearth's first meet didn't go as every other love story does, but it is what brought them together. Even through the scars Penn could see the Beauty within and wanted to still get to know Hearth. It was instant attraction and love between these two. This short story was great.

Wow I couldn't stop reading it. I felt for Hearth. She went through a lot. Penn being there for her. I loved this story. It was very touching and real.

A lot happens in this short story. Love the support surrounding Hearth, and Penn in full devotion. Liked the final outcome for this couple, while dealing with a tragic accident.

Penn and Hearth are so sweet. I felt bad for her when she got seriously injured but it's great that she has the support system that she has with her mom and Penn. Then she was able to see more with Penn than just him wanting to be with her out of pity.
