A Year in Paul's Letters: A Five Day a Week Devotional through the Apostle's Epistles

Rate this book
Paul is the unexpected apostle. He violently opposed Christianity and vigorously persecuted the church. Yet after Jesus appears to him, Paul becomes a passionate believer, preacher, and apostle. As he traveled to teach others about Jesus, he left behind an extensive set of letters to young churches and fellow Christians.

Paul’s letters are a special treasure. His words—from “love never ends” to “I can do all things through him who strengthens me”—have changed the world and echo in our own time. These letters continue to guide us, inspire us, challenge us, and correct us.

A Year in Paul’s Letters is an invitation to discover these writings afresh. Each day, Jacob Hudgins presents a reading from Paul’s letters, then provides reflections and suggestions for thought and application. An ideal guide for those new to Paul’s letters or for the experienced disciple, A Year in Paul’s Letters will help you experience the power of these timeless words afresh.

While I haven't technically finished this yet, I wanted to go ahead and get my review out there in case anyone is looking for a great devotional for next year.

Like his book, A Year With Jesus, Hudgins takes you through the writings of Paul in a year, gleaning applicable food for thought and personal development along the way. This is not an in-depth study of early church doctrine. Hudgins does a great job of getting to the heart of a passage, prompting the reader to examine themselves and ask "how does this passage affect how I live my life today?"

Perhaps not as good as A Year With Jesus (it gets a little repetitive with Paul often having the same things to say to different churches), but this book is still an excellent example of taking passages that are typically used to address the church either locally or as a whole and applying them directly to the individual soul.

Highly recommend.

Jacob's books are always excellent, and this one is no different. It includes short little readings and thoughts for each day of the year, with depths to ponder and prayer suggestions. Highly recommended if you're looking for a daily devotional, especially if you've already done his best book - "Exploring God's Grace."
