After surviving a decade in my worst nightmare, I finally escaped—barefoot, clutching a terrified little boy in my arms, with enemies quickly closing in. I ran… until he came crashing into my life. Anxo Alaire. A Horseman of the Apocalypse. My mate. Where I'm chaos incarnate, he's calmness personified. My anchor in a world that keeps spinning out of control. And when he calls me sweetheart, I almost forget the darkness I'm capable of. His steady, unwavering love makes me wonder if maybe—just maybe—life could be more than simply surviving. The witch queen who stole my childhood isn’t done with me. She’s coming for the people I love, but I’m not that helpless little girl anymore. I’ll burn her entire world to ash before I let her touch my family.
Anxo
My life is basically a circus. Between running my kingdom and keeping the morons I consider family from killing each other, I had more than enough on my plate. Then she walked into my life like a storm ripping through calm waters. Nevaeh Blackburn. The Princess of Death. My mate. She’s fierce, resilient, and perfectly capable of tearing her enemies apart, but that doesn't mean she has to do it alone. She deserves peace, and I’ll gladly help her burn her nightmares to the ground—even if it means staining my hands red.
“The Princess of Death” kicks off a fantasy romance series following the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—a brotherhood bound by loyalty, endless banter, and the chaos they unleash. With divine magic, mythical creatures, and a chaotic found family, this swoon-worthy love story will be your next obsession!
Leona Reed is a self-proclaimed introvert perfectly content in a world of books and daydreams, where stories are endless and reality takes a backseat. When she’s not creating swoon-worthy book boyfriends, she’s is reading about one. Writing romance is her happy place—and she’s more than happy to take you along for the ride.
This is in my top 5 favourite reads this year because omg it was amazing. I could not put it down. I loved the entire concept and i loved all the characters, it was very easy to understand and honestly it was so cute.
This book was 90% fluff and 10% spice and stop it right now i loved it so much. The found family??? Perfect. The fated mates??? A MASTERPIECE. I can not even express how much i love the fated mates trope so much and this book just hit that trope so hard and i fell in love with every single character. It was such a fastburn and it just easily pulled me out of my reading slump.
Seiji was literally my spirit animal. He had me cacklng in every scene and he was just so freaking funny. The group really reminded me of the inner circle from acotar and i was having the time of my life reading every scene.
When i started reading this i was actually a bit slow because i didnt know if i was in the mood for a big fantasy but the more i read the more i realised it was actually more romance than fantasy. This book is set in a modern fantasy world and it has the crossovers with the human world too which i quite liked. Seigi busting out into a song really caught me off guard first because i was like what?? How do these characters in a fantasy book know about Britney spears and i kept reading i was like OH. lmao.
But no honestly if you want a book that's very easy to follow along and one that makes you laugh this one Is for you. The writing had me hooked and I devoured this book.
(I tried my best to make this review as spoiler free as I could! So sorry if there Is any spoilers)
“I don’t want a little something with you, Nevaeh. I want everything with you. You are my everything. In a world where even being soulmates is not enough, I’ll have to keep adding more titles to keep you forever. And I’ll start by making you my wife.”
Ugh I love this book😭♥️ I know I say that a lot but God do I 🤭
For a debut novel to be this good I'm eagerly waiting for more books from Leona🤭🙂
This book follows our fmc Nevaeh who was kidnapped when she was nine years old and she finally breaks free ten years later. The hurt/comfort trope in this book is superb 🫂♥️. The way Anxo (our MMC) is always there for her and waits for her to open up. That's real love 😭♥️.
I forgot to add that he also braids her hair😮💨.
The found family in this, they're all hilarious and slightly unhinged but we love that.🤭 I can't wait for book 2 😭♥️
Favourite quotes;
Those eyes could capture entire galaxies if she wanted, and of course, I fell into her trap. I’m a simple man, after all. A man hopelessly devoted to his mate and willing to surrender his last breath to her.
He's so in love with her 😭♥️
You don’t have to sweetheart. I know how much you want to bury it and never look back. Don’t open your wounds because you think I need to see them in order to love them.”
I have started reading a lot of indie authors, too, because they deserve to be supported. Recently, I came across "The Princess of Death" by Leona Reeds. The author presents a great concept of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, but you will be surprised at how much you will love them. A positive portrayal? Yes, and it makes sense. The characters were fun and somewhat bratty but in the cutest way. The playful banter between friends and lovers was entertaining. I would have preferred focusing more on the core story, as the plot got slightly sidetracked into really long romantic conversations. Don't get me wrong, nothing like sweet Romance, but I would have enjoyed it more when the word "mate," despite being the centre point, didn't appear a bit more than it should. Naveah, the sassy, glittery death, was the perfect example of a teen. Angsty yet passionate. Hyper yet wanting some calm. Also, Anxo's dialogues could have had a little less sugar. I enjoyed the whole book and read it excitedly till the end. The characters were fun and engaging, the concept of The Horsemen of Apocalypse, but in a positive light, The Sassy Glittery Death, the great side support characters, especially Hazel and Seijo; everything was fun. The book was Good, with the potential of being Awesome. Remember, this is a Debut, so support the author and READ THIS BOOK! 👍🏻
The only reason I was unable to finish the book in 1 day was because I had to work and things kept coming in between. From start to finished I kept getting pulled into the book so much that at times it was hard to put it away, once even almost making me late for work. This fantasy romance book is the first fantasy book I’ve read and I’m absolutely in love with it! I do warn you that you are going to need tissues when reading The Princess Of Death, you are going to need them. I knew something was coming, but I was not expecting that and it shattered my heart. Definitely recommend this book! Please don’t hesitate to start reading it once it’s out. Leona, thank you for your trust and this lovely book 🩷 badass fmc are now my favorite tropes!!!! thank you so much leona i’m so happy 🥹🩷
This is a wonderful rough draft of ideas for a book—the incomplete sentences, plot holes, continuity errors, spelling, and grammar errors still need to be fixed. Leona, call me, we can fix this together.
To whoever edited, proofread, or gave it the green light for publishing to this book— I’ve had 7th graders write a more cohesive narrative than this. Hire me and you’ll never be this embarrassed again.
Nevaeh, daughter of the horseman of death, has been locked in a cell for ten years, and when she manages to escape she runs into the horseman of conquer and the prince of famine.
They help her to go back home and they discover that she and Conquer are mates....🫡
Through the book they will face several enemies and battles to get their HEA.....
This is a very confort book, where you can find cute mating bonds, a found family that warms your heart, bromance, perfect friendships,... AND the love of my life, sharky🤭
The romance is so soft, without drama. They are mates, so its fastburn. Nevaeh and Anxo connect easily and become the safe place of each other.
There are also more ships and couple. There is ONE that had me screaming. I did not expect they would be mates and was SHOCKED.
The only thing I did "not like" was the fact that the mcs were nearly invincibles. They suffer, but (in my opinion) not enough. They face their enemies so easily that its almost "Mary Sue".
I liked this book, I enjoyed. Its a good book, I laughed and screamed, but (for me) its not soooo much. I liked, without further ado.
I recommend it if you are searching a soft confort fantasy romance with some battles and great friendships. 🫶
So incredibly good! Truly my only complaint is that this isn’t a series … (yet? Idk, hopefully!).
Small spoilers ahead, nothing too revealing though :)
Things I loved about this book -the world building -the heaven and hell feud -the concept of “divine” and how the magic worked -the plot and plot twists (which were a bit predictable, but it was still so fun to see them play out) -the characters and their diversity -the romance between the main couple but also between other couples -THE SPICE WAS AMAZING (nothing crazy, but well described and exciting) -the slow burn -it had a good pace, not too fast but still very engaging and entertaining -beautiful character development and progression of relationships -AUGUST OFC!!! -the FMC’s healing journey -the honest and realistic portrayal of mental illness (such important representation)
Things I didn’t love as much and think could have been better -some grammar mistakes and misspellings :( -I feel like the villain could have had a better development. I would have liked to have understood better why she was as cruel as she was, not just her motive (maybe in the future?) -I feel like some scenes had the potential to be more, maybe get info out of characters in a more dramatic way. I feel like some important info was just spat out without even having to coerce the confession (iykyk)
-lastly, I feel like Nevaeh was a bit childish at times BUT its also totally forgiven and highly realistic since her childhood and adolescence were traumatic and she didn’t get a chance to develop or learn more adult ways of coping -> so this is really just a small detail that sometimes gave me the ick but is actually totally fair given the context of the character
This book was such great and easy, fun read. Truly LOVED it and the story it tells. Almost perfect except for the deets mentioned above. But they are small small suuuper forgivable things that i’m sure the author could easily fix in her next books.
Thank you Leona Reed
Excited and hopeful to see more books from you soon! I would adore a series on these characters that I grew so fond of <3 congrats on an AMAZING debut, cheers!
Not me reading this book because of a quote I saw on insta and then being let down yet again. Giving it 2⭐ is generous. The only good part of the book was the gorgeous cover and the scenes with the kid. If it was YA I could understand why it was written so immaturely because that's their way but this was adult with the swearing and the several spicy scenes. The characters were infuriatingly childish and cringe. What was the reason for that constant changing from name to nickname in her head? How did she know how to behave and everything she did know about life and stuff after she was locked up since she was a child for 10 years? The plot with the father and witch was what made me want to read and push through but it was so anticlimactic and resolved in a chapter or two. The world building was non existent, the author just threw some words about the important things and expected us to know what was in their head while writing the book then went and spent chapters and chapters on cringe worthy banter and nothing in particular when they could've given us info about the magic system. Now I think this is a debut novel but still how do I rate it higher when it was so bad
Thank you to the author for providing me with an arc of this book!
4⭐️ What a fun fantasy romance! I absolutely loved the world building and magic dynamics that the author created. Nevaeh’s divine and special abilities were so intriguing and satisfying to watch her utilize whereas other fantasy powers sometimes fall flat. The first couple chapters especially really cemented her character as one that doesn’t f*ck around. Love reading about women that are able to hold their own (and then some) in the big battles. The way the kingdom is described with multiple different supernatural creatures living together reminded me of Halloweentown in such a good way!! I’m hoping we get to learn more about the sirens, warlocks, pixies, and all the other creatures as we dive deeper into the story as the series progresses.
There were a few things that I just personally dislike as a reader including the insta-love trope we see throughout the book and my personal distaste for children (even if he’s adorable 🥲) which is why I went with a 4-star rating.
This is a perfectly enjoyable and addicting fantasy romance that I hope will see a sequel sometime soon 👀
3.5⭐ A fun, engaging fantasy! It was easy to read and very beginner friendly, something I would read for leisure rather than looking for smaller details. Definitely something I would suggest to people looking forward to dive into reading fantasy for the first time! The chemistry of the main characters is very cute and the banter and found family aspect of the book are some of my favourite parts of the story. The flow felt a bit choppy in some places but I can look over it given this is a debut novel! Kudos to the author for writing such an amazing debut!
I received this arc from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed Whisper of Death, it was a lovely debut novel. I loved all the characters, except rick, but he gets a very deserving fate.
The only thing I wasn't too sold on was the insta love between the people who were mates. I understood it, but for me personally, I like more of a slow burn when building relationships. That was my only gripe with the book, the rest was brilliant and I loved it.
I loved the story, i would have wanted more expansion on certain parts. It felt a little rushed but i loved it, the characters the plot everything. Can't wait for the next one.
I so wanted to like this one... but it wasn't meant to be.
If I have to read the words "sweetheart" or "angel" again I might have to pull my hair out. So. Many. Times. I get it, they are pet names, but pronouns exist for a reason, please use them!
Another thing the author could have used? An editor. Wrong words, errors in spelling, sentences that made no sense, missing words... Hopefully she can get one for her second edition?
The plot felt... bumpy? There was an overall plot, but it felt like it was composed of about a thousand individual moments with no real impact on the final battle. This book could have been half as long and no plot would have been lost.
I get that real life drives us to book boyfriends. But the men in the book were all crafted as if they were God's apology to women (and the gays). All so in touch with their feelings, emotionally mature, and understanding. Yes, we get it, these are men written by a woman. But they are all too perfect hon, a little flaw here and there to spice things up won't hurt us.
I was expecting morally grey characters with an interesting mythology behind. What I got were inherently good characters who did one or two "bad" things in self defense, too many forehead kisses, and the word "rogue" misspelled three times in the same chapter (the word is never mentioned again, just like we get "curtsey" instead of "courtesy"). Also, why is pestilence changed to conquer? Too little glamour for the softy of the MMC?
TL;DR? The book needs an editor (or at least more beta readers) and many pages more. Dear author, don't be afraid to go for it with the morally grey characters, that was why we are here, not for the Horsemen of the Apocalypse Twilight version.

I dnfd around 40%. The premise and beginning of this book started off strong, but quickly tapered off.
Where it lost me was the consistent writing errors and extremely weird pacing. (One point she gets lost in the hotel penthouse she’d been staying in for the past week? Then one chapter never had hot cocoa And then the next chapter was craving fast food and had a “regular” order.) There was so much inner dialogue that had me so confused.
I feel like with a heavy editing job this could be saved but even then I was getting bored. The biggest problem was the pacing and storyline, both left much to be desired. Sad cause i really enjoyed the first 20%! (And also the reel that lead me here!)
Gosh, this book. If you're looking for a cute, cozy, fun romantasy read look no further!
The amount of times I laughed so loud. Our fmc is so funny, and the sarcasm and humor is top notch.
The amount of times i cried!! Some really powerful moments in here. I love august so much.
Is this a literary masterpiece ? No, but for a debut novel, a first time author, it is well done! Some minor editorial mistakes,, but that's to be expected. It's a bit different than what I usually read but I still really loved it!
I am a crying mess by the end😭😭😭 it was such a sweet love story with so many mythical creatures and the side characters as well finding their true loved ones 😍😍😍 this was one amazingly good story for a fantasy🤩🤩🤩 I loved reading every moment of it, I felt like I was living among the chapters 😍😍
Last time I read a book recommended on tiktok. So boring, no longing or angst. Just insta love. This is why I don't always like the fated mates trope. They are attached at the hip after 1 day.
Rating: ★★★.5 → ★★★ Started: 11 November 24 Finished: 16 November 24
POSSIBLE SPOILERS:
I liked the story and characters. Really liked the dynamic of Nevaeh, Anxo and August. Loved the humour between the characters and their teasing. The growth you see from both MC’s (and August) was really enjoyable to read about.
I do think the final battle was quite short for the length of the book and I also (hate to say this) started disliking Anxo after what he did. This is the same way I felt after reading the fine print, because there are misunderstandings in books sure. But this wasn’t a misunderstanding, the words were used to try and protect her yes, but I just hate this concept a lot. She also forgave him way too quickly and I kinda checked out after it (this is my personal preference that I don’t like the conflict like this in books). I’m also not sure if something was missing because a few chapters started like we ended with a conversation, but it was just the persons POV telling you, instead of showing / being in the other persons POV to tell you instead. But I will say I liked that it was multi-pov because I liked reading the thoughts of the other characters as well.
I do wish we had seen more action even though it was nice to read about in depth the after effects for Nevaeh from what she had gone through (even though I was confused about some things with how young she was to the kind of humour she had, if that makes sense).
Overall, I liked the build-up, I liked the world and I liked the characters. I really liked the concept of the horsemen/women, the horses, the found family vibes and the morally grey-ish heroes as well as their divine powers. I really enjoyed learning about them. Their kingdom sounds incredible and I wouldn’t mind living in it at all.
I wanted to give 3.5 ⭐️but i rounded up since it is really good for a debut novel, the banter was quite funny and the side characters were all great (im looking at your Seiji 🩷)and had depth too not just plain support, the only issue I had was with the while Fantasy angle because i had quite a lot of trouble understanding how world worked, it all felt really loose, with different supernatural components just sort of tossed in and additionally i couldn’t understand how their powers worked, i tried to but failed multiple times. 🙁 I wouldn’t call it Fantasy+Romance but rather a rom-com with fantasy elements. If u love a nice relationship building kind if a story-flow then this is it for you cuz it really showed how the MCs relationship evolves overtime and how they kind of navigate the traumas and the entire mate bond without straight-dive into 🌶️ I hope the author keep writing cuz i am really exiting for the story to progress further and also to see how the author’s writing style develops 🩶
This was such a fun, heartwarming and beautiful book! Also, this was such a banger for a debut novel!
I've recently started exploring more indie authors and as usual I saw one quote of this book and I knew I had to read it. And it was one of the best decisions I made. This was simply fabulous. This will break you but also patch you up so beautifully 🥺😍
The world building was so intriguing and beautiful, the characters were so so sassy, full of life, warmth but also brutal and super powerful and the relationships with their banters, love and care was all so much fun to read. I love myself a sassy and fierce female lead and this book had so many of them.
From super obsessed guys for their mates and super adorable characters, and amazing storyline, I can't wait to dive into this world again. Although the book was on the longish side, it didn't feel stretched or monotonous for one second.
Not what I expected at all I expected some type of gory adventure death thing but this was so so so cute. I loved this book so much, it does have some gory shit in it and tackles some topics that could trigger some people but the main theme wasn't that style it was more of a found family cute style, the main character finds her mate and finds herself and heals herself, she learns to trust others again and she forms a bond with the group and she finds peace it also corves an aspect of revenge, she takes revenge on the people who took her and I just loved it, she was so strong and confident and not in the annoying "I'm not like other girls" way I adored Anxo so so much he was a softy and he just healed a part of my heart and August OH THAT ADORABLE LITTLE BABYY he truly stole my heart SEIJI OH THAT DRAMA QUEEN. he needs his own Reality TV show
would definitely recommend if you're looking for a cute fantasy and sonething adventurous with lots of banter, teasing, found family, and a lot of mental healing
honestly, this book had a really good plot; but i feel like the world building lacked a little bit of... completion? i mean, the author wrote a lot about the details and everything, but it just felt like some important part of it was missing. the same goes for the storyline, some parts were skipped just like that, maybe they weren't as important for the author, yet it left me feeling a bit weird? how could some days pass just like that and suddenly Nevaeh has warmed up to them? how could a month or two pass and suddenly she is more in tune with her Divine? i'm not a fantasy expert, but i could point out those because it what left me thinking, but overall, it was a pretty good debut novel, i enjoyed it. also, i would've liked more if she didn't cave into Anxo the moment he started apologising (i do understand his reasons, but i am a sucker for grovel men)

Holy Shit! I saw a scene on Bookstagram that made me add this to my tbr and I have never been so happy!
What the hell did I just read and can I lose my memory to read it for the first time again? Please?
This book had me hooked from the very start and it just kept going. It has everything, tension, found family, fated mates, basically a shadow mummy, war, love. It had everything and I cannot explain how much I love this book. I cannot wait for more books in this series because I absolutely love this book and I think it’s as good as ACOTAR and TOG and Fourth Wing! Like this book was phenomenal and I will not rest until I recommend this book to everyone!
You will fall in love with August and all the family but he’s just too cute! It’s just I cannot stop raving about this! So do yourself a favour and devour this book just like I did!!!
After eagerly anticipating this book, it exceeded all expectations. The depth of the characters is masterfully crafted; Anxo captivates, while the Princess of Death commands the narrative with her compelling presence. The story's pace is relentless, making it impossible to put down—I finished it in just two days, despite a hectic schedule. Seji’s vibrant presence lights up the group, while the evolving bond between Hazel and Neveah is beautifully nuanced. Harvey and Neveah’s friendship exemplifies true companionship, and Dean, often overlooked, emerges as a quietly powerful figure with admirable qualities. This novel is a tour de force of character development and storytelling, and I can’t wait to revisit it.
Thank you to Leona for giving me the opportunity to read, and now review, her debut. I look forward to her growth in upcoming novels. Neveah’s story is interesting and I would love to have had more character development before being dropped into her present predicament. I was heavily distracted by misspellings, incorrect words, or missing words entirely, but that is my problem and I really don’t feel like that has to stop anyone from enjoying this book. If you like light romantasy with dark worlds/themes, a Fmc with interesting trauma responses, found family, diverse characters, and a HEA - then I would recommend this book. I also hope Reed continues this into a series with the other characters.
I want to thank Leona for sending me an ARC. This is my opinion and nobody has forced me to write this rating. I’m a enneagram number 8…I’l don’t like being told what to do. . . The world building at the beginning was a bit confusing but when I got in the story I couldn’t put it down. Loved the relationship between “Angel” and Nevaeh, and the moments between the Princess of Death and Hazel. If you like fantasy romance books with a found family trope…This is your book!
