I think that the Author Conservatory does a wonderful thing! This collection is their fourth volume (unfortunately I have not read the other three… yet!)

Each story had a unique feel to it all while still feeling full to the brim with adventure and imagination. They are all so delightful each in their own special way!

However, if I were to have to narrow down to my favorites I would have to say that goes to “The Hungry Woods” by Victoria Shanks and “Every Second With You” by Savanna Ammons. These two stories are very different, but I thoroughly enjoyed them both so very much!

In “The Hungry Woods” we are taken to a fantastical world that is suddenly disrupted when it seems that history is repeating itself. The result? A pie war where no one is safe. I loved the way the emotions of everyone came across the page and I could see this story playing out in my mind in a very Dan Bluth animation style. (What can I say I am a 90s kid.) 🥧

“Every Second With You” follows Cerise Cartier and a very unexpected scavenger hunt… at least for her. This is one of the stories that is in the “Adult Fiction” section of the book, it reads “not objectionable for younger readers but written for an adult audience”. This story had me smiling at the sweetness of it all!!! 💖

An additional thing I wanted to point out that I really enjoyed how at the end of each story we got to learn a little bit about that author, their accomplishments and their pitches for future works.

The Teddy Handbook
The descriptions were so well done in this, and the ideas so fun! I flipped open the book earlier than I ever intended to on a whim and then didn’t close it till I’d finished this whole story. So well done!
