Free BONUS Inside!

There are moments in history when two different people who have two completely different visions of the future rise to prominence at the same time and in the same exact place. The Chinese Civil War, which saw Chiang Kai-shek and his rival Mao Zedong fighting for the future of China, is a great case in point. Chiang believed that China should modernize and embrace capitalism. Mao, however, believed that communist doctrine would be the true salvation for the Chinese masses.

Chiang Kai-shek eventually lost the battle for the mainland but forged ahead in Taiwan. China’s so-called breakaway province of Taiwan is still thriving, and they owe it all to Chiang Kai-shek. This is his life—this is his story.

Insightful Biography

Chiang Kai-shek is one of the individuals who created a bulwark against communist aggression during the Cold War. The author is objective but sympathetic to Chiang. Chiang inherited a complete mess that even a Basil II, Roosevelt, Churchill or Regan would have had difficulty resolving. The author seems to believe that Chiang would have succeeded in transforming China into a Constitutional Republic but for the Japanese invasion. His inability to control the corruption of his inner circle led to a reduction of aid from the West following the end of the Second World War. However, Chiang instituted reforms in China that benefited Communist China and his leadership in Formosa is undisputed.

An often forgotten figure of World War II. This book highlights the life and times of Chiang Kai-shek and how he attempted to forge mainland China into a more capitalist nation only to be hampered by his on corruption and those of his underlies. Although he failed in his goal of ousting the communists from the mainland, Chiang was able to flee to Taiwan to set up a western democracy that became and still is, a powerhouse in Southeast Asia.

Informative

I have heard his name for most of my life, yet didn't really know much about him. Now I feel I have a basic understanding. This book takes you through his early life, his rise to power and eventual fall. The role of his wife was an interesting twist. A good read and worth the time and helps put a struggle that still exist today in prospective.

Interesting

A very good narrative of a man spent the majority of his life in conflict.
The reader would enjoy reading and abbreviated narrative on the life of a true warrior and political.
Hopefully, the reader will be spurred to read additional materials. Like the book was intented to do.

Chiang Kai-shek is a controversial figure. He was the leader of the Nationalist party and after he was defeated by the Chinese Communist party he went to Taiwan and worked hard to modernize it.

The book is also a concise history lesson about China during that time period.

An excellent overview of Kai-shek's historical significance

This is an informative book on an important period of Asia's history. It provides excellent insight on a neglected story in WWII history. I strongly recommend it.

Great reading. If the USA had stepped in and backed him, China would still be under their rule instead of the Communist. Glad that Taiwan id still free of the Communist today, thanks to Chiang Kai-shek. He was a great leader and the story is fascinating.

Boring style

While I understand these books are meant for a general readership, they don't have to be written in such a boring style. Many lack any analysis at all.

Well, that was enlightening. Seriously, I thought I knew about Chiang Kai-shek but I did not know what I thought I knew.

A leader doing his best for his people. Although there was corruption, he ventured on. Taiwan is where it is because of him. For that, the world should be greatful.

Good. Succinct. No author is named. This is a fatal flaw for a book on history.
