In a world where it seems that more extreme events are occurring with greater frequency (i.e., so-called 100-year events in the way of storms, floods, fires, and earthquakes), a solid text to help understand the dynamic of such extreme events is most welcome! Statistics of Extremes does an absolutely marvelous job of presenting in clear and plain prose how to creatively think about and model for extreme events in meaningful and practical ways. A must-read for those interested in all manner of statistical insights.
