Old Stones, New Temples is the first comprehensive introduction to Hellenic Reconstructionist Paganism. Carefully researched and documented, this book provides everything a modern person needs to practice ancient Greek religion today.
I want to read this so badly but I don't want to spend $300 on a new copy! I wish they'd come out with in ebook form or something. I mean seriously, if people are willing to spend that much to buy a copy, clearly it's still in demand!
This was a suggested reading option for Hellenion Adult studies. I learned a lot, and will be implementing some of the rituals presented in this book. It also has an extensive bibliography in the back that I am looking forward to putting to good use.
3.5/5, so rounded up to 4. Came across this book after researching the Hellenic religion and was fascinated to learn about the various reconstructionist/revivalist movements that are going on in Europe concerning native religions. This is a very interesting book about the practices and traditions involved in Hellenism and the author has clearly done some very extensive research on everything from rituals and offerings to festivals and the various types of Hellenism that are practised. This is a must-read for those who are interested in practising Hellenism but it is also a very intriguing book for non-Hellenists who simply want to learn more about how this ancient religion is practised in the modern era.
It's been so long since I read this that I hesitate to go too far into plaudits, or dis a good book by too few stars. I read it when I was already pretty deep into Hellenic reconstruction, so it was helpful in creating the parameters of my cultus. But I do remember being shaken into WTF a few times. That being said, it was written a few decades ago, and things change. I think it's still a good book to recommend for folks looking for info.
