Rate this book
I’m just a girl, standing in front of a wolf, asking him to love her…

If only life was that simple, but being a famous actress means nothing in my life is simple. When I bump into the guy of my dreams I know it’s doomed from the start. Will is everything I have a weakness smart, funny, a little shy. Plus he’s tall and handsome and completely obsessed with me.

He thinks the fact that he’s a werewolf is our biggest problem, but I kinda like it when the beast inside takes over and he gets a little wild!

But when my past comes back to bite me, I realize how unfair it is to drag poor Will into the 24 hour news cycle of scandal, rumors and lies. He says I’m his fated mate, but not even fate can force him to love me when that video goes viral again...

Knotting Hill is a cozy monster rom com in the How I Met My Monster series. It’s a stand alone romance with a HEA, featuring a cinnamon roll werewolf who is a nerd in the streets and a beast in the sheets!

WILL DESERVED BETTER 🗣️ (I said what I said.)

This was a bit of a let down for me honestly. To be blunt, these two would never have worked if it wasn't for the fated mates thing. There's no chemistry, bond, connection or spark for them.

There's no love or bonding or anything in common aside from lust and it felt like the heroine's priority was her job and her pleasure and not any actual life or love with the main lead.

I liked will as a character (a bookish, awkward and nerdy werewolf with a struggling bookstore), but Bella wasn't my fave. I don't hate her or anything but she's so indecisive and constantly flits away. Like she really expected will was going to be cool with her jumping in and out of his life for months at a time?? It's not much of a relationship aside from the sex tbh. Also, she doesn't seem HAPPY to be doing what she does / being a famous actress. If she really wants to be a normal woman, she should have just retired or decided to do something else. Also, HE has to chase HER at the end.... Even though she put her career first and left him in the dust. I really don't see why he had to be the one to publicly declare / embarrass himself for her because he wanted a loving and present partner in his life? If anything she should have been apologizing to him for putting her wants / desires over him. (Also, I'm all for a strong career woman, so don't come for me, but in the book it literally says Bella would forget to text or call when he was probably asleep if she reached out at all for MONTHS. How is it on HIM to make all the effort when she chose to focus on the relaunch of her career?)

Then there's the whole transformation thing. We see at the beginning Bella wasn't even AWARE of supernatural beings and was terrified the first time he accidentally chased her down. She's scared for all of 3 seconds and just like never addresses / focuses on it again (unless it's to get her rocks off). If you want to be in a relationship with someone, you'd think she'd want to know about his past, all the werewolf stuff, goals etc. but nope, she just wants to ride that D. *Sigh*

Then at the end, she makes the decision to let him bite her and bind her to him FOREVER while they're having sex.... So like not the best time to have a life changing conversation that is going to result in you becoming a wolf??

Thank you to Ami Wright for providing me an arc.

1/5 stars

I really wanted to love this one as I have loved everything I’ve read by Ami Wright but the relationship just didn’t work for me. I felt bad for the mmc as the fmc kept randomly leaving without much discussion and it felt like he kept falling to the back of her mind when she made decisions. If these two weren’t fated mates and tied together by multiple factors in the end I don’t think they would have stayed together which makes me sad as I liked the first half or so of this book. I still plan on reading more from Ami Wright as I love her writing and her other books but this one didn’t work for me sadly.

I loved all the nods to Notting hill in this and Will was just as lovable and sweet, he was perfectly written.
Very strong beginning with lots of details I found cute.

However I will say the angst in this one was not fun for me. The ending wasn’t atypical. I didn’t like all of it to be honest. I felt like she should of been groveling to him not the other way around, it still seemed as tho her job was worth more than him to me 🫤
That said the writing was still amazing and deserves the five stars despite my personal taste difference. It was fun witty and humorous. The world building and side characters were so lovable. I also really enjoyed the last chapter monster spice!

Awful. Justice for my girl Jane who got told her having a miscarriage wasn’t that bad because she has a boyfriend at least and everyone should feel sorry for the mmc for being single instead.

Justice for me for wasting my time reading this too. The nerve to call it Knotting Hill (I get the pun) when said knotting was over in about 3 sentences.

Maybe I wasn't a fan of the movie or slow burn romances but this book really fell short for me. Just so much miscommunication and missed opportunities that for a visual medium like a movie, it would come across as charming. Now I just don't like either of the characters - they don't need to be in a relationship because they desperately need to work on themselves first and the reader is just dragged on their awkward painful journey for ages and for maybe two spicy scenes? Just not worth the pay off. Also didn't care for the ending where she becomes a werewolf - where was that lore in the story that if he bites her, she is turned?? He has had reservations about her choice being a fated mate but NO mention that it would turn her also and she ends up being super cool with it, it is almost as if the main character stressed and fretted for the ENTIRE BOOK over non-issue?

In the end, the movie was better than the book.

She walked into his bookstore and changed everything. He’s her fated mate—but will love be enough? Will (H) likes his quiet life running a small bookstore in London. He has good friends, a steady routine, and a secret—he’s a werewolf. The last thing he expects is for Bella (h), an A-list Hollywood actress, to walk into his shop and turn his world upside down. She’s stunning, charming, and completely out of his league. But from the moment they meet, the connection between them is undeniable. Bella is used to the spotlight, but she’s tired of the pressure, the expectations, and the constant scrutiny. Will is nothing like the men in her world—he’s honest, steady, and makes her feel like she’s more than just a name on a movie poster. But as their relationship deepens, the realities of their two worlds threaten to pull them apart. Will knows Bella is his fated mate, but claiming her means revealing what he really is. And when Bella’s past scandals resurface, she wonders if she’s dragging Will into something he never wanted. When mistakes are made and hearts are broken, Will and Bella have to figure out if their love is strong enough to have a future together. A sweet and steamy love story about fame, fate, and finding home in the most unexpected places. Fun reimagining of a favorite movie and monsters do make things even better!

If you like Notting Hill, you will like this book. I was a little concerned at the beginning because it was initially a carbon copy of the movie, but we got more differences as the book progressed.
Will was so cute. He was sweet and a little nerdy, but then his Wolf was so hot. I liked to see the possessive parts of him. He was so into Bella in the sweetest way.
Bella… where shall we start. In the end, I was not a fan of her actions, but i liked her. I just didn’t love how she treated Will at some points and i am very protective of him. Together they were a good pair…. I’m just mad at her I think.
Very cozy shifter romance and i really enjoyed it ☺️

If you are a frequent re-watcher of classic romance movies and always thought, these stories would be much better with some monsters thrown in? Then this is the series for you! Three cozy monster romance books full of shenanigans, sweetness and spice that will have you laughing and kicking your feet. Each one was so fun to read, and easily devoured in one sitting if you can’t put them down like I did. There is a story for everyone with a dragon, orc or werewolf to enjoy!

This was a super cute little romcom retelling with "monsters". I actually really enjoyed the beginning of the story, with all the nods to Notting Hill, and all the super cutesy moments.

Unfortunately it kinda lost me in the end when the FMC just up and dips on the MMC, again, and then is surprised when he is upset when she finally comes back. And then he has to win her back in the end, for his "dumb" mistake.

Had the ending been different this would have been a top read for me!

The spice was fun! With even a monster scene in the end!

But all in all, it was cute!

Personally just not a fan of the FMC and tbh the MMC as well.

Maybe it's also because it's a famous actress x homebody bookshop owner but I just didn't really like the setup and the progression for what was happening felt simultaneously too fast and too slow.

I really hated the public sex (which I get is exciting for some but honestly just turns me the fuck off tbh. I also hated that apparently the FMC and the MMC would just....go months without talking? like bitch you called each other but just didnt want to text him? BECAUSE SHE OBVIOUSLY DID BEFORE SO WHY NOT JUST SEND HIM A TEXT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO CALL???

Also not the dramatic airport scene but in reality she would have been already on/boarding her flight by the time the MMC got to the airport.

I was more interested in reading the side characters than the main love interests

In all honesty, I wound up speed reading the ending since I wanted it off my reading list and off my phone. I appreciate what the author was attempting but it just isn't for me.

Sugary sweet Notting Hill inspired rom com (admittedly I have not read Notting Hill so I missed all the references BUT this was still super cute.) Who doesn't love a cinnamon roll wolfy good boy? All the angst and knotting. Interesting and fun side characters too!

Gleeful Goblin Review: I remember really liking the original movie Notting Hill but the note from the author is spot on; everything IS better with monsters! Being able to read about a shy but oh so sweet bookshop owning, poetry loving werewolf with his diurnal vampire employee/lodger and then that werewolf's fated is a world famous movie star is even more delightful than watching Hugh Grant be goofy and awkward in a mostly sweet way to Julia Roberts (who is to this day one of my favorite actresses). Plus, this book and the corresponding couple is both sweeter AND way filthier (in the very best way) than the movie couple was. Holy mother of mercy that movie theater scene was enough to give one the vapors.

Another thing that really distinguished the book from the movie is that the "we can't do this" tension makes WAY more sense when one half of the couple is a werewolf who is secretly ready for forever *right now*. "Because this can’t be forever, can it? The life I live... I couldn’t condemn him to following me around, or waiting endlessly for me to be free. Will surprises me by turning me to face him and taking my other hand. He lowers his voice. “Bella, I want to. Believe me. And I don’t want to scare you, but I’m a werewolf. Not a human.” “Uh huh.” I’m not really following. I’m trying, but I don’t get what he means. He sighs. “Things don’t, ah... don’t work the same way for us as they do for humans. I just... Give it some time, OK? I need to figure out if this will work.” “OK.” I look down to our joined hands. Will’s voice is even softer when he speaks next. “I really want to.” I look up. The truth is written in his face when I search it. That relieves the little knot of tension in my chest. “I really want you to. He pauses. “G0d, I’m being a fool, aren’t I?” I laugh. “No. Yes. Maybe a little, but I think I like it. It’s sweet. I’m not sure what you’re protecting me from, but I like that you want to.”

Something special about this book is that despite knowing how the story ends in the movie the writing is so engrossing that it keeps you riveted until the very end. 5/5 Stars

🔥 “Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to run from the big bad wolf?”
~~~
Bella is a famous movie star. She’s been labeled a diva, but Bella is anything but that. She’s so kind, compassionate, witty and funny. Even more, she’s such a nice, generous and adventurous person. But fame is not as glamorous as everyone thinks and being a celebrity has left its mark on her and her relationships. Nevertheless, Bella is a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much!
Will is a werewolf and the owner of a quaint bookshop. Ohh, he’s such a sweetheart and the greenest of the green flags! Will is sweet, caring, considerate and supportive. Yes, he often has a tendency to put his foot in his mouth but this just makes him so adorable. And if you look up “Consent King” in the dictionary, I’m pretty sure there will be a photo of Will right next to the definition. Will is an incredible and utterly irresistible male and I loved everything about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Bella and Will! It’s just an ordinary day for Will at work and the last thing he expects is the actress he’s been obsessing over for almost a year to walk into his bookshop and turn his life upside down. I absolutely adored those two together! Their chemistry was fantastic from the very beginning and they were so sweet together. And their banters and teasings were so fun to read. I truly loved every moment they spent in each other’s company. Even more, the passionate moments they shared were scorching hot. Their journey towards happiness was definitely a bumpy one and filled with yearning, angst and heartache, but it was so worth it in the end. Bella and Will were just so perfect for each other and more than deserved to find love together!
In addition, I couldn’t help but love Will’s friends and sister - all of them were so amazing and supportive, but also didn’t hesitate to tell him when he was wrong.
Overall, Knotting Hill is a wonderful, emotional and naughty story and I absolutely loved every page of it!
4.25 stars. Will, the male shifter bookshop owning lead, is internally bemoaning the sorry state of his finances when Bella, the female human actress lead, walks in. Bella is Will’s favourite actress but he’s sure she can’t really be present in his small failing independent bookshop. Bella was just looking for a quiet moment but she’s also attracted to Will. But she’s also struggling to recover from an abusive relationship complete with scandal that has affected her career. Can a quiet nerdy wolf shifter and a well known, somewhat anxious actress make a relationship work?
This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, contemporary fantasy, wolf shifter/human, fated mates romantic comedy. I enjoyed seeing Bella recover her mental health and begin making choices that suited her rather than the expectations of her career or outside others. I enjoyed Will’s easy acknowledgment that Bella was his fated mate but his willingness to facilitate her choices, even when that wasn’t him. I enjoyed seeing their relationship developing, and the steamy intimate moments. This is by one of my favourite authors but not a preferred genre and I’ve never seen the movie referenced as the title. I enjoyed the writing but the story didn’t resonate with me particularly well. If you like rom coms, this may be more your style.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
📚 ARC Review 📚
Huge thanks to Ami Wright for the gifted ARC
Knotting Hill is one of three monster romances of the How I Met My Monster series releasing February 13. They are reimaginings of beloved rom-com classics with a monster romance twist. This one is a reimagining of Notting Hill.
Will is a werewolf bookshop owner in London with a crush on American actress Bella Owens. Bella just so happens to find herself in his shop while trying to be incognito. During their meet cute, Will learns they are fated mates, but that doesn’t mean that everything is going to be sunshine and roses for them. Bella has demons from her past to tackle and Will has his own insecurities to overcome.
I love that Will is such a sweetheart and so supportive of Bella regardless of the rumors about her. I super appreciate the mental illness representation and the kindness that is shown around it.
There is a fair amount of heartache and yearning in this and it was so so sweet. I love Will’s pack and his friend, Ian. Especially Ian, who’s just so quirky and goofy. I would love to read a book of his antics.
This is my favorite out of the three. Is it because I loved Notting Hill and I’m a bit biased? Maybe? But also, no. Each story has enough different to make them uniquely their own. And this one was really heartwarming.
🌟🌶️🌶️🌶️
Knotting Hill is a charming, fast-paced read that perfectly captures the magic of a ’90s rom-com—sweet, swoony, and sprinkled with just the right amount of spice.
Will and Bella are an absolute delight together. Their chemistry is an irresistible mix of flirty and awkward, with a sense of inevitability that makes you root for them from the start. But love isn’t easy, and these two have some serious hurdles to clear. Bella’s journey is especially poignant as she grapples with the weight of fame and the manipulations of a toxic ex. The emotional toll is palpable, making her struggle to move forward all the more compelling.
And then there’s Will—an undeniable green flag in every way. He’s hopelessly in love with Bella but refuses to pressure her, respecting her space even when his heart aches for her. The way he longs for her, yet holds back, made me feel for him so deeply. He’s just that kind of hero—the one you can’t help but adore.
Thankfully, fate and some soul searching propels them toward a heartwarming, life-changing love story. And I have to give a special shoutout to Ian—because honestly, who doesn’t love an awkward vampire?
Thanks to the author for the gifted copy 💕
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (an extra star cuz the book made me want to watch to the movie)
I confess I haven’t actually watched the movie—only random clips social media like TikTok—so I didn’t even realize this book was inspired by it until later on when I started getting serious déjà vu. Once it clicked, I got super giddy and even more interested. I didn’t even know the movie’s title, just the gist of the plot and that one iconic scene:
description
Back to this book: I really liked the characters. From the little I know of Notting Hill, the personalities matched perfectly (with some liberties of course, since the guy here is literally a werewolf). The plot beyond the movie parallels was like icing on the cake—fated mates, knotting, pack dynamics, the vampire, and all those little extras I absolutely loved.
I had the distinct privilege of receiving an advance reader copy of this book from the author, along with two other books that like this one are inspired by classic 80s/90s romcom blockbuster movies.
American movie star Bella is in the London suburbs hiding from paparazzi after a long overdue breakup in a tiny, nearly deserted bookshop when it becomes obvious the adorable proprietor and his awkward assistant recognizes her. After a beverage mishap requiring a change of clothes, Bella impulsively kisses him and exchanges numbers as she ducks out of his back door. Bored at a media event later that afternoon, she texts him asking if he’d like to get together.
Wolf shifter and bookshop owner Will is enthralled with the enigmatic actress who’s doing a poor job of concealing her identity as she peruses his offerings. When she kisses him, his wolf is very much on board with the direction things are going. As they spend time together they find themselves more enamored of each other but an unscrupulous ex and media attention make it a rocky road.
Humor, heat, and romance follow in a fabulous, fun novella.
Ami Wright is a consistently great writer with challenging but redemptive MCs.
I’m pleased to share my very enthusiastic two thumbs up.
“I’m just a girl, standing in front of a wolf, asking him to love her…”
Bella’s life as a famous actress is chaotic—like, imagine being famous and trying to just chill in a bookstore. Enter Will, a quiet, nerdy werewolf who owns the bookstore and has his own baggage. He’s like, low-key obsessed with Bella (but not in a creepy way, promise). The chemistry between them is chef’s kiss even with all their drama—she’s dealing with a messy past, and he’s just trying to keep it all together.
I seriously loved seeing Bella grow and heal throughout the book. Like, it’s so refreshing when a character realizes their worth and isn’t just chasing the spotlight. Will? Total mood. He’s all about supporting Bella, even if it means stepping back from his own desires. The steamy moments? Let’s just say there’s some wild chemistry when the beast inside Will takes over.
The romance is sweet, steamy, and kinda messy (in the best way), and I’m 100% here for it. If you’re into werewolves, fame drama, and a bookshop romance, then you need to read this!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I’m just a girl, standing in front of a wolf, asking him to love her...
Most romcom lovers have watched Notting Hill the movie, but now monster lovers can get the sweet, swoony love story between a movie star and nerdy bookstore owner with wolfy tendencies.
A chance meeting turns into a wonderfully charming fated mate love story. Filled with chemistry, found family and quirkiness.
Bella's chanced encounter with Will brings a sense of wholeness, but with celebrity status comes notoriety, and that is never good. A quick read from a one click author. I am never dissapointed but her monster love stories, and they are leaving you smiling.
Tropes:
Opposite attract. Fated mate. Werewolves. Knots. 3rd act breakup. Groveling. Quick read (197 pages) Found family. Healing.
Quotes:
“Would you mind if I stay a while? There’s nowhere in the world that makes me feel like I do when I’m here. Like I do when I’m near you.
“Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to run from the big bad wolf?” “No. I don’t think I remember that part of the fairy tale. I seem to remember the wolf being very hungry, though.”
I liked this one. Do I think the fmc had stuff she needed to work through before she made it official with Will? Absolutely. But everyone struggles and deals with it differently. Her going through everything didn't take away how much she liked Will. She didn't even know they were mates and was still kind of obsessed with him. Even at her lowest point Will was on her mind.
Will was a sweetheart. He was a little nerdy but he was amazing. He was understanding and caring. He had an amazing group of friends. They were funny and had each others back.
Will and Bella didn't have the best road to their hea but that doesn't make it any less real. They liked each other a lot, had a lot of chemistry in AND out the bedroom.
The only complaint I have a little bit is that we don't really get any background on the characters😭. Like I can't tell you a single thing about them. It didn't bother me as much if I'm being honest just bc I liked the story and was enjoying it a lot that I just didn't truly care to know about their childhood or their parents 😭😭. The story focused on the present and their developing feelings for one another while also dealing with outside noise.
4.5 stars. I’m a sucker for a cheesy romcom retelling.
I’m not usually a fan of wolf-shifter/omegaverse romances. They usually feel over complicated at best and full of toxic masculinity at worst. This one was so well done though that I actually think I’ll look for others in the author’s back catalogue.
There’s something SO good about a nerdy, anxious British guy who is just absolutely down bad for his Hollywood a-lister gf, you know? The trope hits every time and it absolutely continues to work here.
The only reason it wasn’t a 5 is because I’m not a fan of third-act breakups, and I felt like this one was more stretched out than strictly necessary. But on the other hand it did work to build up their reconnection so like …… I’m torn. Either way, I loved this, I will re-read this, and I will recommend this to anyone looking to explore wolf-shifter romance without the heavy political world building stuff.
I was given an e-arc of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to Ali Wright for sharing Will & Bella’s story with me!
Knotting Hill is a heart-wrenching, slow-burning romance.
I absolutely loved the characters: Bella, the beautiful yet deeply broken actress, and Will, a sweet, sweet werewolf with an odd roommate and a failing bookstore.
Ami Wright did an impressive job of blending Notting Hill with monsters! In a remarkable feat, she also managed to keep the characters just as awkward and endearing as in the movie.
I loved that this is the first book in the How I Met My Monster-series that doesn't rely on a previous book world to build the story.
The story contains many relevant nods to the #MeToo-movement in Bella’s struggles, and isn’t afraid to touch on the sensitive subject of the psychological consequences of existing in such a brutal world, like the movie business.
The book, for me, lost its momentum toward the end, but I definitely enjoyed it! It lacked a bit of spice, though.
Note: I received an ARC of this book for free, but all opinions in this review are my own and completely honest.
I did thoroughly enjoy this book. I loved Will. He is so awkward and probably everything I would be if I ever met my favorite famous person. I loved how he wanted to get to know the real person behind her fame, and I completely understood his feelings of not being enough when competing with the world.
I did enjoy Bella as a character. I love how she completely accepted all sides of Will and loved how he kept wolfing out with her. I loved that there was a bit about her mental health and how she was working on making that a priority. It should be and I love that it was addressed. She was a strong, fierce female character. I just struggled with how she treated Will at times. I felt his doubts were completely reasonable because of this, and I just didn’t feel like it was addressed 100%. But I do love the feeling of home she gets from him, I know that feeling and love it for him and her.
Overall fantastic story, loved the steam, and most characters were amazing.
I did receive an ARC and this is my honest opinion.
This is getting extra stars because I do adore Ami Wright and her books and I love the nods to Notting Hill with this one.
This was cute, despite some of my qualms. I did have a fun time reading it, I adored the side characters, and I really liked the characters- separately. I think Will deserved far more, unfortunately. Bella just kept leaving him for months at a time, they would not communicate and then she would randomly show up at his bookstore and expect to rekindle or even act as if the months away did nothing. I get that she is an actress and had to “save her career” but this man deserved more than to be put on a back burner. I liked Bella outside of this predicament. She seemed smart, witty, and loving. Will was so supportive, but you can only be so supportive before none of your own needs are met.
Unfortunately, I am a person that doesn’t believe that there’s ever a “right person, wrong time” - the right person will make it the right time.
As stated, extra stars because I did enjoy myself despite the hurt heart. I am happy for the HEA
Okay, so Knotting Hill is basically a monster twist on the classic Notting Hill movie, and honestly? It’s a vibe🎬 🤩.
The best part? I couldn’t stop hearing Hugh Grant’s voice in my head every time Will spoke. Like, a werewolf with a British accent? Come on! That’s just the cherry on top🍒✨️.
I mean, Notting Hill is my go-to comfort movie, and reading this felt like getting a warm hug but with monsters and spice🐺🌶️.
The first sexy kitchen scene with Ian as
c🤫ckblocker? I can’t. Somehow, I was giggling at that part🤭.
When Ami writes monster romance, she never holds back the spices! And she delivered, and I’m here for it🤤.
Also, now I can’t rewatch Notting Hill without thinking about this book. But still, I can't imagine Hugh Grant shifting into a werewolf. And Julia Roberts? Yeah, she could be the prettiest werewolf, but I can't imagine Anna and William getting into all the spicy bits Bella got into with Will. 🤭
10/10 for the happy ever after🫠.
