In high school, he was relegated to the friend zone… but now this college hockey graduate is getting a second chance to make up for past mistakes…
When I was sixteen my only goal was convincing my best friend, Tammy, to be my girlfriend. But I messed it up… and then she got together with another guy. My heart was torn right out of my chest. Everything between us changed—I lost her.
But now, after years of not seeing her, she’s walking through my door with a kid on her hip and a desperate look on her face. “I don’t know where else to go. Can we stay with you for a little while?”
Of course she can stay. It takes everything in me not to tell her to stay forever. Because even after all this time, she still’s the one. Every smile, every whisper… every laugh we ever shared is bright in my memory. She’s the only girl I’ve ever wanted. And this time around, I can’t go screwing it up. This time around… I have to make her mine for keeps.

It's interesting to me that my two favorite guys of the Hockey House boys (Liam & Baxter) wound up being my least favorite books of the series. I think it has more to do with , so it's definitely a personal ick.
Objectively, the book was engaging and emotional. I would probably still recommend the book and for sure the whole series.
I loved this book. It was a great 2nd chance at love. It didn't disappoint me in anyway. Absolutely loved it. Plus you get to see all the other guys in here.
I've been eagerly anticipating Baxter's story, and it was so worth the wait. This book has a bit of a different feel to it because the hockey isn't front and center, but I found that very fitting to the story and it really let the emotions, angst, heartache and feels that fueled this second chance, friends to lovers romance shine in the spotlight. Baxter and Tammy put a lump in my throat, tears in my eyes, tied my emotions into knots, and had my heart feeling like it was one big bruise. However, it also touched me with its humor, melted my heart with its sweetness, moved me with its poignancy and warmed me with the stunning beauty of a love that is undeniably meant to be but must simmer and endure until the time is finally right.
{📖🤓} { ARC Review} ~⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐~ The Only Goal Nolan U Hockey ~ Book # 5~ {Author Katy Archer} @addictedtocollegesportsromance
I was so excited to see that Baxter got his story and we can finally learn about the girl who got away. I love a second chance romance, best friends to lovers sign me up. The angst between these two was felt throughout the book. I knew I loved Baxter's book and I was not disappointed. I felt all the feels with this one.
I can't wait to see what Katy has instore for our Hockey gang this October!
Wow! Just…wow!!! I finished Baxter’s story and I thought Lani and Asher were my favorite Nolan couple?! I still love them but Baxter is-phew 🥵 Katy does it again with the final installment at Nolan U. Baxter and Tammy’s story line itself unfolds so naturally that it makes you feel like you’re there experiencing these moments right along with them. Katy’s writing brings you right into the story and holds your attention as you flip through the pages. While Tammy has some big decisions to make (though it seems like a no brainer especially with Baxter in the mix), she works through some difficult situations that Katy was very tactful and well versed in what she was saying. We get to see our other favorite couples throughout the story as well, and their banter and love for each other doesn’t let up or disappoint. Katy-Thank You for bringing us this series and for letting us fall in love with each of the Hockey House boys 💕 I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our guys.
I’ve had a soft spot for introverted, quiet Baxter for a while now, and I’m happy to see him get his HEA, even if Katy puts both him and Tammy (and us readers, of course!) through the emotional wringer on the way. This story has plenty of drama and heat, but it wouldn’t be a Hockey House novel without the ridiculousness the hockey bros bring to the table. :) But to be honest, sweet Kai absolutely stole the show (and a piece of my heart).
Katy Archer did an amazing job writing this 2nd chance romance. The characters dealt with a lot of emotions and issues to find their way back to each other. You won’t be disappointed.
The only goal was the last book in the Nolan U Hockey series and in my opinion it was the best way to end it. This book was about Baxter the goal keeper for the hockey team who is shy and has only ever had eyes for one girl being Tammy who he hasn’t seen in years.
After an unexpected reunion Baxter and Tammy finally clear up all of the miscommunications since they last seen each other which was the best thing that could have happened for Baxter.
I loved seeing Baxter and Tammy get the happy ending they deserved after going through so much while they were apart.
I also loved the way all of the couples from the series were mentioned and how they were all there for Baxter as well as Tammy while they were working things out, my favourite found family🫶🏻
This book was an emotional rollercoaster and the best way to end the Nolan U Hockey series.
I didn't think anything could make Baxter and Tammy's romance any better since I thought it was superb but the addition artwork in this special edition proved me wrong.
I knew I loved Baxter! He is my new favorite character of the series. He is so sweet and relatable, generous and kind. His story was heartbreaking. And Katy’s writing was exceptionally crafted making me feel all the feels.
I loved how much Baxter loved his Tammy. However, I found her so frustrating. [spoiler alert ] She never held herself accountable and always blamed everyone around her - her parents, Baxter, Hudson - they weren’t responsible for HER decisions. She chose to do what her parents asked, she broke Baxter’s heart, she started what happened at the swimming hole then ran away, SHE stayed in an unhappy marriage, yet still placed all the blame on Hudson for cheating when she ALSO cheated! She never admitted that! She blamed Baxter for not fighting but she never fought either! Grr! *rant over*
Anyway, I loved this book and how emotional it made me feel. And Kai was sooooo adorable! Especially his relationship with Casey. Well done Katy! This series is stellar!!

I received an ARC copy of this book. I’m glad Baxter got a book, he was one of my favorites since the beginning. First of all Kai absolutely stole my heart. His interactions and almost instant connection with Baxter were great. I also loved seeing Casey’s interactions with Kai and being able to see what he’s like with a kid. I know people will think that it’s romantic that Baxter waited and saved all of his first for Tammy, but I personally hate it. He wasn’t any of her first and she never really looked at him in that way until way later on minus that one time the summer before their senior year of high school. I wish he would have tried to move on with one or two other girls. I’m glad Tammy finally saw how great Baxter is and left Hudson, but I just can’t like her the way I do the other girls. All in all it was a good book, and I’m glad Baxter finally got his happy ending.

I do love a good sports romance and I think this might be my fave from this series. Hockey didn't really play a big part in this story but their relationship did. Their vulnerabilities, emotions and lack of communication had these two divided when they should have been together. Tammy and Baxter had been childhood friends, a big connection that never quite panned out. Five years later has them together again. It won't be easy, other factors are involved. My heart went out to them, will life come full circle for them? What a wonderful story.
BB & TT 🥹🥲 Life has a funny way of throwing you huge curve balls at you because Baxter and Tammy sure had some navigating to do to finally find each other again🥰 I love their story so much. Baxter may have graduated from Nolan U but staying put post grad and being with his friends lead him back to the love of his life.
So many surprises from Baxter that i wasn’t expecting and I’m not going to spoil it for you. Just read it and give him a chance and i promise he will have you giddy and kicking your feet in the air because he’s just an old soul kinda romantic 🥹🥰🤎
The Only Goal is a heartfelt story with a second chance. We finally get mysterious Baxter’s story and I love it. Baxter and Tammy’s story is a best friends to lovers/second chance romance. I love their reconnection and them finally expressing their feelings for each other. I also love seeing the other characters help them open up and bring them closer to each other. This series is amazing and I want to read more about them. I can’t wait to see what will come out next.
I absolutely adored this story! I loved really getting to know Baxter in this one as we have seen him throughout the whole series but he has always been the quiet one that mostly keeps to himself and yet is still there and part of the team. I loved getting to see more of Baxter's past and what made him retreat. He was dealing with a broken heart and losing/missing his best friend, Tammy. He was always on the quieter side but after losing both his best friend and his mom he became more so. It was great seeing Tammy walk back into Baxter's life and how they went about their friendship and it shifting into more. Baxter realized this was a second chance for him to get his girl but he wanted to do it in the right way and I loved how he went about all of it. Things flow so easily for both Tammy and Baxter as they are just meant to be, even with the obstacles and things they have to overcome. They do have to find a way to communicate through their hurts from the past and the different way that they interpreted what happened and what the other thought back then. I loved the way that this story flowed and all that we got. It is definitely engaging and emotional but we also get the friendship and banter that comes in all of Katy Archer's books. I loved watching Tammy's kid interacting with everyone in the hockey house as well. Just a great story and really enjoyable. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
OMG, my heart! The Only Goal absolutely wrecked me in the best way. I didn’t expect Baxter to be so swoony, but he melted me completely with the love he has for Tammy. She is it for him—always has been. Baxter has known he loved Tammy since they were little, and even though it took her a while to catch up to that realization, he never wavered. He spent his life loving his best friend, quietly letting her go when he thought that’s what she needed, and it made their eventual journey back to each other even more perfect.
Their chemistry is off the charts. Every glance, every touch, every moment between them feels electric yet so deeply grounded in years of friendship and unspoken love. Watching Tammy finally see what had been right in front of her all along was emotional and so, so satisfying.
And can we talk about Baxter and Kai? The way Baxter instantly loves Kai just shattered me (in a good way). He doesn’t hesitate; it doesn’t matter that Kai isn’t biologically his—Baxter simply knows he’s going to love and protect him forever. It’s beautiful and speaks volumes about the kind of man Baxter is.
Lastly, the entire friend group in this book is absolute #friendshipgoals. They show up for each other in every way that matters, and the sense of loyalty, history, and unconditional support between them gives the story so much heart. Katy Archer captures the magic of true friendship—and true love—perfectly.
If you love friends-to-lovers, emotional slow burns, and heroes who love with everything they have, The Only Goal is a must-read.
As much as I wanted to love Baxter's story, I didn't. The highlight of this book, for me, was Baxter and Kai, and Kai with all the other hockey bros and the puppy. There was something so adorable of a skittish Kai opening up slowly. When he calls Nolan home, and calls Bax when he's scared - ugh, be still my heart!
As much as I understand that Tammy's ex cheated on her and she was in a loveless marriage, the cheating aspect bothered me, especially because she went back to said ex! Cheating is the one trope I cannot get behind unless there are dire circumstances (so far only one book comes to mind when I was totally ok with it - it's a Neva Altaj book but I cant remember the name). Tammy may have made up her mind about leaving him but she was so easily manipulated it annoyed me. She had a whole found family by her side, she could have fought her ex at the beginning when he blackmailed her into going back but she didn't. All of that combined just didn't appeal to me from the get go.
However, absolute kudos for Brax saving himself for Tammy!! That was so beyond adorable!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.2️⃣5️⃣ I went into this book with a fairly good idea of how it was going to play out and what the tropes would be. As such, I wasn't that excited to dive in, but I'd binged all the other books. I needed to see it through.
Oh, what a lovely read! I'm shocked I liked this as much as I did. The found-family in this series is chef's kiss. It is done so well that I've thoroughly enjoyed a couple of books from this series I wouldn't typically even bother with. I don't care for the dreaded pregnancy trope or kids, especially toddlers, in books whatsoever, as it pulls away from the intrigue of any budding romance. I don't care how cute the kid is written to be... not interested. This series has both of these tropes, and I, very surprisingly, didn't mind too much. Again, it's the found-family that keeps this entire series interesting, engaging, and highly entertaining. It's an absolute win!
Mmc- Baxter Brown Fmc- Tamara 'Tammy' Tan Spice- 🌶🌶.7️⃣5️⃣
As hinted at, this author is working on another series involving the football guys introduced in The Love Penalty. My calendar is marked, and I'll be picking up The First Play as soon as it's released.
Ugh, so disappointed, I wanted to love this book💔 and I loved Baxter, I especially love the fact that Baxter saved himself for her. I absolutely hate the man whore trope, where the guy supposedly says It was always her, but slept his way through multiple women while waiting on her . but I just could not handle the fact that she was married.. they had an affair even though she wanted to leave her husband for cheating on her.. could have been so much better in my mind if she had actually divorced the ex or waited to get together until she was divorced. I know this isn’t a spoiler for some people, but just a hard no for me. Ruined Baxter’s story for me.💔💔
These special editions are amazing with all the pictures.
I do love a good sports romance and I think this might be my fave from this series. Hockey didn't really play a big part in this story but their relationship did. Baxter and Tammy had the best reconnection story. We get to know about his pain and hers. It was so touching to see that the whole house was on board to help a single mother no questions asked. I really liked the love, the understanding, the sacrifice and adoration Baxter demonstrates. Not only to Tammy but also to her son. I love how all book connect and come together as one. So amazing!!
The second book in a row to disappoint me. The reason in the book is Tammy. I didn’t like her, I thought she was awful and Baxter deserved better. If it hadn’t been for Kai then this would have been less stars
Tammy gets home early one day and finds her husband in the shower with another woman. Baxter has finished college but he is still in the villa they got in the last book doing odd jobs while also teaching kids to play hockey
You find out that they were best friends growing up but something happened and they drifter senior year
She doesn’t know where to go and hasn’t spoke to Baxter in years. She never understood why he backed away from their friendship. Still she goes to him and he of course says they can stay cos he is a nice guy.
The you find out that at the end of the summer before senior year, she decides to kiss him and see what its like. She is the one that instigates it then she takes off her top and gets him to touch her. Then she starts jacking him off and he gets excited you know its his first time and he blows and she freaks and says she isn’t ready for sex and runs away. He has to go visit his grandma and when he gets back she has a boyfriend and then gets pregnant. I don’t understand why she was confused about him backing off. He told her he wanted her and she said she wasn’t ready. He said ok but then she’s sleeping with the first guy she meets. Sounds like a bitch to me!
She is now married to that guy cos the parents made them. Baxter has never been with anyone. Saved himself for her which she did not deserve!!
Her mum calls her and tells her to go home and forgive the husband. She hangs up on her determined to divorce him
She kisses Baxter who says he cant do anything because she is still conflicted. She says she took her rings off and is divorcing him 100% so he finally thinks he has everything he ever wanted. He is imaging them as a family and making plans. Him and Kai make a great team. I loved their relationship! Kai and Casey were adorable too
Her husband turns up and she is disgusted that he cheated but she is technically still his wife and has been sleeping with Baxter so she’s just as bad really (some people wont like that comment and I know its different but still cheating)
She goes to tell Baxter she is leaving with her husband and she breaks his heart again and he says ok and walks away. She then gets mad that he didn’t fight for her when she never choses him. She leaves him over and over again and she’s mad at him? Oh I really didn’t like her.
Kai calls Baxter to tells him he misses him and its so heart-breaking. So he decides to fight for them.
She leaves her husband and they finally get together.
Nice epilogue
I just think Baxter should have moved on. He loved someone who never loved him. I don’t think she did while she was at the villa. I think she knew he was a good choice so she made it

Baxter is way too sweet and good for Tammy, no one can change my mind.
Tammy has just witnessed something no married woman ever wants to see and finds herself with her 4-year-old son, Kai, on the doorstep of the B&B where her childhood best friend is staying. Looking for a place to figure out her life and where she’ll go from there, Baxter immediately welcomes her in with open arms. He’s been in love with her since they were kids so it was no surprise there. Emotions are heightened, memories are brought up, and feelings are being uncovered and felt.
I enjoyed this book, I love second chance romances and I’m a sucker for a good single parent story. I thought that the scenes with Baxter and Kai were adorable, I wish there were more of them. The relationship with Baxter and Tammy was more complicated in my mind. There’s no doubt in my mind that Baxter has been in love with Tammy since they were kids, it’s obvious in the way he thinks about her and his actions. Tammy I feel like didn’t feel the same way fully. I feel like she only started to develop feelings for Baxter because of the way he treated her and gave her attention where that was definitely lacking in her marriage.
Tammy did piss me off at times in this book and here is why she doesn’t deserve Baxter. She kept saying that she couldn’t know if he actually loved her because he never told her his feelings verbally and that he wasnt fighting for her. Actions speak louder than words and I feel like a woman who had been cheated on by a husband who only used words would appreciate the actions more. Baxter was constantly doing things with her son, tried making it easier for them when they were staying there, he kept his fücking virginity for her because he knew she was the only girl he could love for Christ sakes. If that doesn’t SHOW that he loves her, I don’t know what will. And while he did tell her to go back to her husband when that was the last thing he wanted, it’s not like she was fighting for him at all. She totally blew off what they had developed while their time at the villa as a fling, and her not understanding how her words were interpreted that way is beyond me.
Also fuck Henry. There’s no exact reasoning, he’s just a shit person and a manipulative bastard.
Anyway, Baxter hanging out with little dude Kai was the best parts of the book.
