Naked Moose #2

Lone Wolf In Lights

You can hide from your past…but you can’t escape it—not even with a hot cowboy and a Christmas craft circle—in this lively and poignant romance from USA TODAY bestselling author Stacey Kennedy.

Everyone daydreams about a fresh start…but Willow Quinn is making it happen. She’s left her life in Phoenix to open a bar in cowboy-country Montana with her two best friends. It’s a chance to reboot in a new town with a new life—and leave behind the shadows of her past and heal. Hopefully.

All she wants to do is create an empowering space for women who need support. Snow and the holidays are on the way, so surely a craft circle is the perfect way to build community… Except who knew her plans would ruffle so many feathers.

Enter former bull rider Eli Cole. She’s drawn to the green-eyed cowboy, his intensity and the electrical charge between them. (Even though he seems to have as many dark secrets as she does.) And when she and her bar, The Naked Moose, go viral for being interlopers, suddenly Willow’s new life is on rocky ground.

But Eli has the perfect solution—give the fiercely single bar owner a fake relationship with a local. But while it might dim the negative spotlight and convince the town she really does fit in, it definitely won’t protect her heart from the cowboy she can’t resist…

From showing up to glowing up, the characters in Afterglow Books are on the path to leading their best lives and finding sizzling romance along the way. Don’t miss any of these other fun titles…

Arc review

I loved this second book in the series. Considering it was dealing with some pretty heavy topics it navigated them extremely well, showing that the author had really thought about and researched her writing. Eli and Willow are wonderful main characters and this was a lovely romance.
However the shinning star in this book is Betty! Having the old matriarchal wise character is alway a bonus for me and Betty is an amazing example!
I did at one point think this book was going to go down and overtly feminist route which had me worried as I thought it was going to be ruined but betty saved the day!
Read in 2 sittings and really looking forward to Gunner and Aubrey’s story!

This was a great read especially with the heavy subject matter that Eli and Willow both deal with. Loved the returning characters and can’t wait for the next book in this series.

Lone Wolf In Lights brings readers back to TIMBER FALLS!

Stacey Kennedy invites readers back to Timber Falls in Lone Wolf in Lights, a heartwarming continuation of the world introduced in Devil in Blue Jeans. This time, we follow Willow Quinn, one of the esteemed owners of The Naked Moose, as she navigates both personal and professional challenges. Willow’s commitment to community-building makes her a target of online harassment, leading her to agree to a fake relationship with Eli Cole—a perfect setup for fans of the fake dating trope. As the pretend romance progresses, genuine emotions begin to surface, building into a touching, passionate connection.

Kennedy once again masterfully blends lighthearted romance with deeper, more poignant themes. While Lone Wolf in Lights delivers a feel-good romance, it also tackles weighty topics such as domestic violence and grief, adding an emotional depth that elevates the story. Readers should be mindful of potential triggers, but the story’s impact is undeniable, with its powerful message and heartfelt storytelling.

With its mix of sweet romance, spicy chemistry, and meaningful themes, this novel is sure to resonate with longtime fans of Stacey Kennedy and newcomers alike. Don’t miss out—you’ll regret it if you do!

I unfortunately didn’t realize this was the second book in a series before I started reading it. The first couple of chapters were a bit confusing and frustrating because you are dropped into the characters’ current lives without any backstory and I quickly realized I was reading a second book in a series. After that things fell into place a bit more but I would definitely recommend you start with the first book! This book is multilayered and dealt with some important topics. I loved the small town and the great community of people.

Lone Wolf in Lights by Stacey Kennedy is an absolute masterpiece, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. The story of Willow and Eli is both heart-wrenching and heartwarming, diving deep into the lives of two beautiful souls who have faced unimaginable pain through domestic violence. The chemistry between them is breathtakingly beautiful, and their journey toward healing and love moved me to tears.

The plot was compelling, weaving together moments of suspense, raw emotion, and tender romance. Willow’s strength and Eli’s protectiveness make them an unforgettable pair. The town of Timber Falls provides the perfect backdrop for this emotional rollercoaster, with its charm and sense of community adding depth to the story.

This is the second book in the series, and I’m officially obsessed. Both books have been phenomenal, but this one might just be my favorite. It’s easily a contender for my top pick of the year—or at least right near the top!

Stacey Kennedy does an incredible job of handling sensitive topics like murder and domestic violence with care and respect. Readers should be mindful of the trigger warnings, but this book is absolutely worth the journey. It’s an emotional, powerful, and unforgettable read. I loved it!

This book follows on from the devil in blue jeans. There is definite growth between both books as the writing seemed to flow so much better in this.

These are quick easy cowboy, small town reads with mild spice. In this book in particular it does delve into some potentially triggering topics which appear both on and off page ( the main character is a DV victim and host a support group for other females who have been affected)

Be prepared to cry. As much as this is a wholesome small town cowboy book the nature of the topics will make you connect and feel with the characters. I sobbed like a baby at times as it is something so many women go through on a daily basis. The topic was handled with care and was in no shape or form glamourised.

This was a cute hallmark vibe small town cowboy romance festive read. It deals with serious topics such as dv which was done tastefully. This is apart of a series and while this book was good, it didn’t pull me into wanting to go buy and then read the rest of the series.

Pros: I loved the message. I love that Willow is trying to help everyone who is a victim of domestic violence. I loved the Christmas vibes. I liked Eli’s character.

Cons: I feel like this book isn’t memorable. I found parts to be a hit hard to get through and really had to force myself to finish.

I was obsessed with The Devil in Blue Jeans, so diving into Lone Wolf in Lights was a no-brainer!

This book is all the things: small-town vibes, holiday charm, and some spicy cowboy moments that had me hooked from start to finish.

Eli Cole? The protective green-eyed, brooding cowboy. Former bull rider with a mysterious past and enough smolder to melt the Montana snow? Yes, please! 😍🔥

And Willow Quinn? Total boss babe! She’s everything you want in a leading lady—strong, independent, but still navigating her healing journey. After everything Willow went through in book one, I just had to see where her story would go, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

She’s trying to escape her past, open a bar in a small-town, and kick off her Empowerment Elves craft circle (because obviously, she’s a legend 💅).

But when her plans ruffle some cowboy feathers and her bar goes viral for all the wrong reasons, things get a little wild.

Enter fake dating with the hottest cowboy in town. Oh, the tension! The banter! The sparks flying faster than reindeer on Christmas Eve. 🎄✨

One of my fave lines: "You can’t escape your past, but you can rewrite your future—especially when love comes knocking." I mean, cue the swoon 😍

Highlights:
🎄Fake Dating with a side of sass: Fake? Who are we kidding—those sparks are real.
🎄Empowerment Elves: Willow creating a craft circle for women to slay the holidays and life? Queen behavior. 👑
🎄Holiday vibes, cowboy style: Snow, small-town drama, and a whole lot of festive feels.

I laughed, I swooned, I plotted ways to move to Timber Falls and find my own cowboy. Eli and Willow’s chemistry is off the charts, and the drama? Pure chef’s kiss.

It's all the holiday romance magic with a side of small-town scandal and cowboy charm.🤠💋

This series keeps getting better, and I’m already dying for the next one!

Lone Wolf in Lights by Stacey Kennedy
Book two in Naked Moose series

This series is all about finding your place.  Three best friends make a pact of they aren't happy by 28 they move to a remote town in Montana.  This is Willows' story.

Willow is on the path to healing from an abusive relationship.  She's determined to help others find their way to being stronger and taste money for a local woman's shelter.  When a threat comes from an unknown source, she agrees to a fake relationship with Eli. He's been a calm force since they first met, and the attraction is undeniable,  but they both still have demons to fight.

Eli is at a crossroads,  he wants to take the big leap with Willow,  but still dealing with his own tragedies, he doesn't trust himself.  With a little Christmas magic and a little help from a wise woman, taking a chance turns into so much more.

Lone Wolf in Lights is the second book in the Naked Moose series, but it can be read as a standalone.

This book feels both lighthearted but also confronting, as it respectfully navigates domestic violence and grief. I do suggest checking trigger warnings before starting this book.

Willow is a survivor of dv and one of the owners of the Naked Moose Bar. She commits to creating a safe haven for other survivors and starts a Christmas Craft Group, called the Empowerment Elves, which provides others with support and helps raise money for the local women’s shelter. Eli is an ex-pro Bull rider and suggests fake dating to Willow, to help protect her from some harassment she has been receiving online.

Willow and Eli were such a cute couple. Both have traumatic pasts and they felt so respectful and protective of each other. Their story is one of healing and there was definitely a lot of chemistry between them.

One aspect of the story that I really loved was the strong sense of community. It really highlighted those small town vibes and added that lightness to the storyline. While this is set at Christmas, it is still a great read for all year round.

This is a quick and engaging read, which blends so many great tropes together. Expect to find:

🎄Small Town Romance at Christmas

🎄 Cowboys
🎄 Spice 🌶️

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. The opinions are my own.

A holiday centered read with drama, darkness, tension and budding love. This was much darker than I thought it would be but it definitely had it's place in the story. Eli and Willow go through it to find their happy ending. While their story was sweet it felt a little rushed and not authentic for me. The dialogue was a little awkward but in many moments fun and cheesy. Both MCs grief is handled and resolved fairly quickly so if you are looking for something that is sweet, fast paced and has that heaping dose of darkness wrapped up in a holiday bow then this is for you! I did enjoy this read even if isn't a book I would normally reach for.

3.5 ⭐ 1.5 🌶️

I'm still unsure if it's the third person POVs, the writing or something else entirely, but while I adore the entire concept for this series, it's still just missing the mark for me, albeit just barely. This one had so much potential for ripping my heart out in the best way possible, and while I did love the storyline and the characters, I just wanted more....

I did adore Willow and Eli. There's so much emotion and heart with these two and they were so sweet and perfect together. I loved watching them fall in love.

Still excited for Aubrey and Gunnar too!

First of all, thank you so much to Harlequin Audio, Stacey Kennedy, & NetGalley for this ALC opportunity!

I really enjoyed Lone Wolf in Lights! It does deal with some heavier topics at times, but it still felt light & fun as well. Eli & Willow both have some pretty emotional trauma from their pasts. Their relationship starts at a fake dating set up. Really though, they’re perfect for each other. 🥰 I love that we got to see Charlie & Jackson too. 😍 Oh! Also, a round of applause for Betty! 👏🏻 Definitely a cute read!

Full transparency I did read this over 2 December’s as I did not finish it before Christmas last year. Hallmark with a side of trauma. A bit too much for the type of book I want to consume in the festive season. However if you want some serious issues for character to work through to underly your Xmas story go for it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4-Star Review: Lone Wolf in Lights by Stacey Kennedy (Audiobook)

I really enjoyed Lone Wolf in Lights on audio it’s a warm, spicy small-town romance with depth and heart. Narrated by Alexa Elmy, the audiobook brings Stacey Kennedy’s characters vividly to life and makes the story feel cozy and immersive.

Willow Quinn is trying to start over in Montana after a traumatic past, opening a bar and creating a space for healing and community. When former bull rider Eli Cole enters the picture, their chemistry is instant and engaging. The fake-relationship trope plays out beautifully, and the slow burn between them is emotional and satisfying.

What stood out for me was how the book handles serious themes like trauma and healing with sensitivity while still giving plenty of heat and heart. Some moments are sweet and uplifting, and the holiday setting adds extra charm.

Overall, this was a fun, heartfelt listen with great narration definitely worth 4 stars if you enjoy character-driven romance with emotional depth and a spicy touch.

I wish this book was longer and included more character and relationship development.

I liked the idea of this book, but it felt a little underdeveloped to me. If it was longer, there would have been space for both characters to actually make some meaningful change amongst themselves. I wasn't overly invested in either character, and I wish there had been a little more focus on the inner work the two of them were doing. The main plot didn't really have any impact on their backgrounds, other than in a couple of scenes.

The whole plot focused on another character's relationship and trauma, and the main couple's own issues were secondary.

I understand this is a second book in a series, but if it is going to be portrayed as a stand-alone, interconnected series, it should be possible to read any of the books and still understand what's happening. This book opened up with a prologue that made no sense to me. I had no idea what these two character's relationship was with each other, or how we got to this place. It would have been nice to see a little more background or explanation of how these two knew each other.

Overall, I loved the scenery of this book, but the characters and plot were underdeveloped.

Lone Wolf in Lights is a fabulous blend of Hallmark charm and sultry spice.

This was one of those books; I wasn’t sure what I would get when I read it. Would it be super charming, spicy, full of dramatic twists and turns? It’s always a fun experience when you venture into the unknown when reading. Overall, I enjoyed this book. It starts off super Hallmark-ish. The dialogue is about boosting others up and supporting one another, and it is sometimes a bit cheesy. The small town this book is located in feels charming and has the added bonus of being located near a farm full of gorgeous cowboys. As Willow and Eli grow closer, things start to heat up, and there are some spicier moments between them. There are also a few twists when an unknown threat is directed at Willow. All of these different elements blended together really nicely.

This is a short story, and it might even be considered a novella because it is under 200 pages. This means that things progress quickly both in the overarching plotline and with the relationship between Willow and Eli. Both MCs are struggling with past traumas, making taking that first step into a romantic relationship difficult. Willow is coming out of an abusive relationship and is trying to heal and find herself. Eli’s sister was murdered by her abusive ex, and he is dealing with the grief of losing his sister in such a traumatic manner. Stacey did a great job at handling the topic of abuse and grief in a thoughtful and careful manner. I thought including this difficult topic added a sense of realism to the story. It gave it some depth. Of course, both characters grow from the support of each other and some self-reflecting.

The romance in this book is enjoyable. There is a bit of friends-to-lovers, fake dating, and a protective hero. It’s pretty clear to see that these two have chemistry. There is also this mutual understanding of the emotional difficulties they are going through. I liked both the fun, flirty banter and the more serious, quiet chats. Their relationship does progress at light speed, but that is to be expected for a shorter story.

Lone Wolf in Lights is a fun cowboy romance with a dash of Christmas magic.

Willow Quinn moved to Timber Falls, Montana along with her best friends Aubrey Hale and Charly Henwood to open a bar. They all are leaving something from their past behind and in Willow's case it is her abusive ex-Niko Sanchez, who is now in jail after nearly beating her to death. Willow is trying to gain back feeling safe again.

Eli "The Storm" Cole knows a thing about feeling safe. He lost his sister Miranda when she was murdered by her boyfriend. Eli has strong guilty feelings when it comes to his sister because he was out on the rodeo circuit when she was killed. Now he feels a certain pull towards Willow and wants to make her feel safe. After one very steamy kiss Willow freaks out and gives Eli the cold shoulder. Eli is a quiet and patience man and just bides his time until Willow is ready.

As Christmas is right around the corner, Willow decides to start a group at the bar....Empowerment Elves as a support group for women who needed a safe space and safe friends where they will make Christmas decorations and sell them at the annual Christmas Market with the proceeds going to Hailey's Place....the local women's shelter.

After Willow gets some scary messages threatening her Eli convinces her that they should pretend to be dating for her safety. Along the way Willow decides to actually give Eli a chance and they both start opening up about things from their past. Just when everything in her life is finally looking up, disaster hits and ruins everything. Eli is beside himself and even his best friends Gunner Woods and Jaxon Reed are having a hard time getting through to him. When the dust finally settles, it will take some deep internal searching before Willow and Eli can find their way back to each other but once they do, they will finally get their fairy tale ending.

I really enjoyed this steamy, fake dating, Christmas story. Eli was such a sweet, caring guy and only wanted the best for Willow. Willow was having a hard time trusting again, but Eli helped her to believe in herself again. Overall this was a fun addition to this series. I cannot wait for Aubrey and Gunner's story!

Lone Wolf in Lights (Naked Moose #2) by Stacey Kennedy

I couldn’t wait to get back to this small town of Timber Falls Colorado, and The Naked Moose Bar! This emotional story is filled full of memories, love and pain. But it is also about a community with a big heart, and spirit coming together at Christmas time to help one of their own that has suffered and is trying to help others. From the moment I started reading this story it had my heart and soul and it has stayed with me long after I finished reading it. The characters growth and development through this story pulled at my heart strings, but they also brought joy, so much joy and love to this story!

This is Willow Quinn and Eli Cole’s journey and it didn’t disappoint.

Willow Quinn moved to town with her two best friends to open up The Naked Moose, hoping to start a new life and leave her pain behind and heal.
But every time she was around Eli Cole her heart skipped a beat, and then there it was again, their off-the-charts chemistry. But she couldn’t go there again after what she had been through. Or Could she?

Eli Cole is a local cowboy who is drawn to the beautiful Willow. After hearing of her past he admires her unique combination of strength, sweetness and compassion that she possesses, because he is also dealing with his own grief and anger after losing his sister. But when Willow’s safety is threatened he comes to her with a course of action. They will fake date to keep her safe!

“They stay with us, in the stories we share, the memories we cherish. Grief has a way of isolating us, but it’s through these moments we remember that we’re not alone.”

What a beautiful, emotional, Christmas romance! It had so many uplifting, fun moments that brought so much to this story. I loved reading about the Empowerment Elves support group. But watching two broken people, heal and learn to trust and love again is what makes my heart happy!

“I have the power to shape my own future.”

I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

When I saw this book up for review, I’d heard so many good things about the first book I knew I had to apply for it even though I hadn’t read the first book yet. Before starting this book I took it upon myself to read ‘The Devil In Blue Jeans’ first. If you’re going to read this book before the first book please look up the trigger warnings as the book is largely based about surviving DV. If you’ve read the first book you can guess what this book will be about for Willow & Eli.

I really liked Willow and Eli as a couple and although their story is slow you can really see the growth happening for them both not only as a couple but individually. I really felt like they’re a good fit for each other and I adored the small town vibe. You’d never guess it from the cover but this book has a big christmas vibe and I love it. I don’t think there’s anything better than a small town at christmas, they always give found family.

I gave this book 3.5 and the only reason I didn’t give it 4 stars is due to it being third person. This is not my type of book and in the past it’s been a dnf, but I always give them a go and see if I can get into them. I have really enjoyed this series and will definitely be reading the next book.

I was kindly gifted this book in return for an honest review via NetGalley.

Lone Wolf in Lights by Stacey Kennedy is described (on the cover, I may add) as a novel about a "fake date with a cowboy".

I'd say it's deeper than that - it's actually much more serious than I anticipated, with themes of resilience, female empowerment, and moving on.

Willow Quinn has left her old life behind, and opened a bar in a small town in Montana with her two friends. Given her own history with a violent man, she wants to create a safe space for women - and she's going to use Christmas to do it. She sets up a crafting circle so that other women who need support have a safe space to chat and make Christmas themed crafts to sell at a market (a lovely idea, I think).

Someone isn't happy about it, however - they don't like the idea of this newcomer coming in and helping women gain confidence and independence. Local cowboy Eli is smitten with Willow - and he thinks that if he's on her arm, maybe the locals will take her a little more seriously. Eli has his own past stuff to work through - but could he be ready to move on with Willow?

I dunno, lads. It doesn't really sit too well with me that in a novel about female empowerment, healing and confidence, that it takes a big strong man to come in and "save" this already very capable woman.

I'd nearly have preferred if it was just a natural romance that happened - Eli and Willow are nice characters, even if I thought the relationship lacked chemistry. The setting is lovely, and the more sensitive topics are handled well.

It's just not what I was expecting.

CW for discussion of domestic violence, rage and threatening behaviour.

This is the second in a series, although I didn't realise that, so it could be read as a standalone.

I would read more from Stacey Kennedy.

Looking for a fresh start, Willow Quinn has moved to Montana to take over the Naked Moose bar with her two best friends, Charly and Aubrey. This is the second book in the series, the first was Charly and Jaxon’s story, and although I have not read it I had no trouble following the narrative of Lone Wolf in Lights. Jaxon runs Timber Falls Ranch with the help of his friends Eli and Gunner – you can see where this is going, but it’s none the worse for being a bit predictable.
There is a strong attraction between Willow and Eli, but they both have issues to work through and stick to being friends to begin with. To convince the local community that Willow belongs in Timber Falls, Eli suggests they pretend to be dating. The fake relationship trope is one of my favourites, so that’s why I decided to give this a try. It is not a light-hearted romance novel, but deals with domestic abuse and violence, guilt and grief, though in a thoughtful and sensitive way. Willow had escaped from a violent, abusive relationship, and Eli’s sister was murdered by her abusive partner when he was not around to protect her, so they could easily relate to each other’s reluctance to get involved.
Willow has started a support group, the Empowerment Elves, to make Christmas-themed crafts to sell at the Christmas Market, and raise money for the local women’s refuge as well as providing a safe space (and friends) for anyone who needs it. As in all the best fake-relationship-themed stories, the lines between real and pretend are soon blurred. Most of all, Lone Wolf in Lights is about the power of friendship, as the members of the group pull together and support each other. I look forward to reading the final book in the series and finding out why Aubrey dislikes Gunner so much. Thanks to Mills & Boon Afterglow and NetGalley for a digital copy to review.

A quick Christmas cowboy romance that's sweet but needed more depth

I couldn't resist grabbing this audio when I saw it on NetGalley, even though Christmas has come and gone. Sometimes you just need a Montana cowboy fix.

Here's the thing—this was a perfectly fine listen, but it didn't grab me the way I wanted it to. Willow's opening a bar in small-town Montana with her besties while healing from an abusive past. She catches the eye of broody former bull rider Eli Cole, who's dealing with his own grief after losing his sister to domestic violence, when Willow's bar goes viral for the wrong reasons, they fake date to win over the town.

Kennedy handles the heavy topics like DV and grief thoughtfully, and I appreciated that she didn't shy away from the real trauma both characters are working through. The chemistry between Willow and Eli is there, and the fake-dating trope delivers genuinely sweet moments.

But everything felt... rushed. The pacing is lightning-fast, which means the emotional depth I craved just wasn't there. The characters are likable but a bit one-dimensional—everyone's either perfectly supportive or clearly a villain, with not much in between.

It's basically your comfort-romance movie marathon, but in book form with added steam. The small-town Christmas setting is cozy, the cowboy energy is present, and the spice level surprised me a few times. But I wanted more complexity, more messiness, more *realness* to the healing journeys and the romance.

It scratched the itch for a light palate cleanser but didn't stick with me.

Vibes we are tracking:

❄️ Christmas in small-town Montana
🤠 Protective cowboy with a tragic past
💔 Healing from trauma together
🎭 Fake dating for damage control

Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing for this gifted ALC!

This was a really cute and short romance. It had a lot of important messages about surviving domestic abuse, speaking out about abuse and not being silent about it. The messaging was the biggest part of this book and it was really strong. I listened to the ALC of this, and the narration was done really well. I listen to audiobooks at 2 or 2.5x speed and she was so clear and precise with the words, It was great.

Now this book was pretty short, I think it was under 300 pages. So I wouldn't say it's incredibly "in depth", but for the shortness of it you do get a really sweet romance. The book is way more focused on surviving and moving forward from domestic violence, for several characters, but the romance is sweet and it helped balance out the heaviness of the messages.

The MMC was so sweet, he deals with his own trauma and grief through the story just like the FMC. They are a great couple and they really help each other and understand that they're both in spaces of healing and growth. The FMC is incredibly strong, she overcomes a lot and there is fantastic therapy representation for her. I love books that show that therapy is beneficial and nothing to be ashamed about.

I do think this gets a bit cheesy in a lot of parts, I wouldn't say it's bad I would probably say that it's just loaded with positive messaging. There is one word that I think is way overused, I actually got to a point the last time I heard it being said of going "please use a different adjective". But other than those couple of things I would say that this delivers on a cute romance and really strong messaging about domestic violence. This comes out February 3rd!
