From bestselling author of Under the Breaking Sky comes an epic new alien invasion series.
A strange, glowing object lands in the forest. Tim is the only one who sees it. Venturing out to investigate, he discovers animals infected with a mysterious black growth. When he returns to his cabin, he realizes the horrifying whatever disease the object brought to Earth, Tim has caught it too.
Now begins a living nightmare. Tim grows sicker, succumbs to the illness and dies—only to awaken again the next morning.
But something is wrong. Tim is no longer fully human. He's transforming into something else. Something dangerous ...
Invaders offers a chilling blend of sci-fi horror and post-apocalyptic suspense. With its gripping tale of alien invasion and unsettling mutations, this story will appeal to fans of Independence Day, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and Stephen King's Dreamcatcher and The Tommyknockers. A compelling start to a series that explores survival, humanity, and the fear of the unknown.
I write stories about the apocalypse so that I don't need to work a real job. I grew up reading Stephen King and still haven't fully recovered. I'm currently ending the world in my new series Under the Breaking Sky.

This is very suspiciously like Monster by Michael Grant.
So this big rock flops down from Outer Space and sort of lands/hovers in the forest just near Tim's cabin in the woods. Tim is a veteran with problems who prefers to live on the outskirts of town. (I'm with you there, Tim). Tim, being human, finds the alien rock just hanging there and of course...has to touch it. WHY WHY WHY, Timmy??? He and his dog get infected. Tim takes his dawg to the animal doctor, Alan, who gets even more infected than Tim. So it goes on. It's changing our DNA.
I read one of this Danish author's earlier books, They Come At Night (published 2009) and found it pretty amateurish, but Nick has improved a lot since then - a REAL lot. He doesn't pad his books with a whole lot of bullshit; he gets right into the action straight away. Not only that; he tantalises our eyeballs with a high degree of I-wonder-what-happens-nextness.
The ending has more dangly bits than a nudist's picnic, so I have to read the next book in the series now, but they're free through KindleUnlimited, so that's alright. Onward to Invaders 2: An Alien Invasion Thriller
Oh...forgot to mention...it's nice to have a book set in a different country than the usual USA for a change.
When I first started reading this I thought it was going to be just another book about Aliens rehashed. As I kept reading and having read many of this authors book, it had a original twist as most of his books do. I did read the prequel first. Exciting and entertaining so I'm going on to the second one.
this is book one of The Invaders series and think walking Dead with a horrible twist of alien Invaders causing a lot of problems. oh and all this was a really decent read and it's giving a good hard foundation for the next two or three books in the series I would recommend this book if you like The walking Dead or anything like that it does fall in that category and yes it does get gruesome so be prepared if you have a weak stomach don't eat or drink anything that you don't need to.
Nick Clausen doesn't miss, man. And he's the kind of author I just love to follow. Prolific, replies when you email him (at least, always has for me), has the best mailing list of any author I follow (out of lots, seriously), and writes really good horror books. Most of them are zombie-like in nature, but this one is a bit different...
"Invaders" is a very different take on the alien invasion narrative. I anticipated the classic 1950s sci-fi trope of flying saucers and panicked townsfolk, but Nick defied my expectations with a creepy story with "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" vibes more than 50's farmhouse/little green men stuff.
The chapters follow the perspectives of mainly three P.O.V characters, each of which I became fully invested in. I found myself genuinely rooting for each of them while they deal with the horrifying changes unfolding around them (and...in them? Maybe?)
The invasion itself is super creative and more insidious than ray guns and cattle (though I wouldn't have minded a nostalgic sci-fi like that).
"Invaders" reminded me of Dean Koontz's "Winter Moon." I wonder if Nick read that one. I know he's a big Stephen King fan. Not sure about Koontz.
I liked it and of course it is only the first in a series so if you have read his other series' you know that this is just the introduction. Book 2 is out at the end of April and I'll be there for it.
In the meantime I've got the Breaking Sky series to finish.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I can’t wait for the next one. It’s a different take on a potentially world ending situation. The characters are well developed and interesting.
I had mixed feelings about reading this book but I knew Sir Nick writes good books, so I said what the hell. I'm glad I did, it's not only a good book but a great book. Very fast moving, I couldn't put it down. A great cast of characters and I'm ready to start the next book. I recommend reading this to all that love fiction.
I don’t watch horror movies nor do I like to read horror books. I got suckered into reading this one because it is science fiction, but man is it scary! Tim Iversen is our main character and he’s kind of normal guy until he’s not! He lives in the woods and from the story it sounds like he’s living in Denmark. He’s got a dog named Buddy and they are comfortable being alone in his cabin most of the time. Tim’s got a Daughter but they are estranged after his wife, Anya, died.
Tim has tried talking to his Daughter but that doesn’t work out too well. She’s apparently on her own even though she’s just sixteen. That’s kind of strange. Still, she has a job somewhere in town and living a life without her Dad. She doesn’t have a big part in the book, well, until she does.
Tim was driving his truck home one night, things always happen at night, when he and Buddy thought they saw something in the sky. Whatever it was came floating over the truck and shuts it down completely. His cell phone also dies and Buddy is nervous about something. That’s when whatever the thing was seems to crash behind a hill almost in Tim’s backyard. Since he’s pretty much drunk right now, he decides that he isn’t going to go wandering around in the woods at dark trying to find something. So he and Buddy call it a night and hit the bed.
Next morning after a terrible night of strange dreams. Buddy’s anxious to go outside and Tim likes to go for walks in the morning in the woods just so he can think. He starts up a trail that he believe will lead to whatever that was that crashed last night thinking he’d just check it out. He believes it could be a meteorite or even an old Russian satellite. Once on the other side of the hill, he sees this strange rock kind of sitting where nothing was there before. Tim knows these woods like the back of his hand and this isn’t something he’s seen around here.
As he looks around the rock he’s see a rabbit seemingly throwing a fit on the ground. It looks to be frothing at the mouth and in some kind of pain. He doesn’t like to see animals in pain so he figures he’d just put it out of its misery by stepping on it and breaking its neck. It does go dormant. Then Tim looks closer at the rabbit and he notices this black fuzzy stuff all around its nose and mouth and coming out of its ears. He thinks it looks like some kind of fungus and doesn’t want any part of it so he makes a mental note to wash-off the glove he was wearing to kill the rabbit.
Then Tim looks up at the rock only to see Buddy standing up against it with his front paws resting on top of the rock. Tim yells at Buddy to get away from the rock and come back to him which Buddy does. Then Tim looks closer at the rock and can’t believe his eyes. The thing is floating about 1/2 inch above the ground. Tim thinks he might need to call somebody, but he’s not sure.
Tim and Buddy start back down the hill only to almost get run over by a lady jogging down the trail. She bumps into Tim and he apologizes and both go on their way. You’ll read more about this lady. Back at his cabin, Tim’s still wondering who he should call when he notices that Buddy is looking sick. Yeah, he’s got this back fuzzy stuff around his nose, eyes and mouth and it sounds like he’s having trouble breathing. So, Tim calls Alan, his veterinarian, and asks to bring him over. Alan says to do so quickly.
Well, Buddy dies! Yeah, just like that. Tim is heartbroken, of course, but Alan says there was nothing he could do since it was so quick. He also doesn’t know what it was that killed Buddy. He did tell Tim that he gave Buddy a potent killing drug towards the end to quickly end Buddy’s pain. Tim’s not paying much attention since he just knows he’s just lost his only friend. Tim goes back to his cabin.
The next morning, he gets a call from Alan telling Tim to get over to the clinic very quickly. Alan won’t tell him why, but just to get there as quick as he can. So Tim climbs into his truck and heads off. This is where the story goes off the deep end. Everything starts happening now.
Once back at his cabin, Tim gets sick, very sick. He can’t get warm even though it’s winter in the woods and he’s got all the windows open. He’s lying in his shorts on the bed sweating like there’s no tomorrow. He just wants to get some sleep and finally does. When he wakes the next morning, things have changed, but he’s not immediately aware of what they are. He feels much, much better.
Then Lis calls. She’s Alan’s wife and says that Alan got sick last night. She went to check on him and now he’s gone. She needs Tim to come tell her what could have made Alan so sick and so quick. Was it something that had affected Buddy? Well, we’re all going to find out soon enough. This book scared the you-klnow-what out of me! I don’t really like these kinds of books, but this one was very well written although a little predictable.
Surprisingly, there is another book coming in this series. It’s titled, “Invaders - 2”, catchy title, right? It’s available on Amazon right now. I’m afraid to put it on my reading list. Maybe later?
I honestly didn’t think I’d enjoy this book. Not cause I don’t like Nick’s work, I do, he’s a brilliant author. I’m just not so much into alien stories. Much preferring paranormal. Anyway I finally gave in and read the sample, which ended and I downloaded the whole book. Why? You ask? Because it’s buddy good that’s why! I really should’ve known it would be! Great story line, the characters are normal folk you can relate to and get to know quickly, and the descriptions of the transformations are in point! Exciting and plenty of action! So yes folks I will be reading the second one asap. Well I have to!!! It’s brill!
Audiobook: I was entertained by this first book in a new series by this author. I was engrossed from the opening paragraphs until the end as I had to know what was going to happen next. I followed Tim's metamorphosis with bated breath, and I'm curious as to what more changes he will undergo before his journey reaches its conclusion. I was unsettled as this story ended on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait until the next book in the series. I enjoyed Spencer Dillehay's narration as his performance was entertaining. I was given a copy of the audiobook. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.
Writer Nick Clausen has created another series touching the fear we all have, that of the unknown. In 'Invaders 1', we are introduced to an unseen Alien Invasion that is quickly spreading. We know it's spreading, not because spaceships are landing or predators are attacking the malls, but because people are changing. If you want to know what to look for, read 'Invaders 1'. Until then, avoid closed spaces like an elevator - or your home! - Mr.Bill
Another ground zero to mass spread event! I love these types of stories. Where it is just a small incident that, if caught in time, could prevent so much death. This follows the story of several characters but mainly: Tim, Veronica and Felix. Tim discovers an odd object in the woods and his dog is exposed to and ends up in the vet. I won't spoil much but that idea of something so small unraveling humanity, just wow! I have already read DEAD MEAT, UNDER THE BREAKING SKY, and CADAVER. Each story dealing with a post apocalyptic event. This one feels different. The characters are a bit more well rounded. The story following a different set of rules. Can't wait to read the next one.
I struggled with this book after reading it and waited a few weeks before writing this review and dropping the 4 star review to 2 stars. I really did enjoy the story, and the writing had an enjoyable flow to it but it felt simple with overall descriptions of people and environments somewhat lacking. And the abrupt ending of the book with a link to purchase book 2 was a total shock.
This was not a book. It was 1/3 of a whole book. Hey Nick Clauson (another made-up name), sell me the whole book for $9.99 like everyone else. Instead of selling me a third of it 3 times at $7? The thing is, it's not about the money, I would happily pay 20+ if the writing was a bit more interesting. I was expecting an ending but nothing.
I will read invaders 2 and 3 and try out some of your horror books. I hate giving a bad review to a really good story but there it is.
This is the first book by the author that I have ever read and I enjoyed it enough to read the second book.
It starts with something dropping from the sky and spread particles in the air and attaches itself to anything and everything. It doesn't effect animals but it changes humans. Turning them into something that looks alien in nature. The first person that was infected is able help authorities capture those that have evolved more than him and to hopefully help save the planet.
Great read couldn’t put it down until I read it all. Good action good storyline easy to read and easy to follow the characters. I thought it was going to be just another alien invasion but I was wrong. With characters like Tim, Buddy,Helena, Lundbeck, Leo, Molly and Felix keeps you motivated and guessing where to go next. One of the fastest books I’ve read in a while. Can’t wait to see what’s going to happen to Felix. Highly recommend reading the book.
Invaders is jam-packed full of surprises, dangers and one heck of a cliffhanger! The characters and storyline grabbed my attention right away and held me captive until the last second. I’m looking forward to book 2 and I highly recommend this one.
As my other Nick reviews, this is about a 4.5 or so. I seem to be on a similar reading/writing wavelength as him. Realistic dialog, real dread, relatable characters, unpredictability…check, check, check, check. I put Nick on my “Well, I gotta read this” level as my other must read author Nicholas Sansbury Smith, without the 4000 page commitment. High Praise from me.
I really dislike this book solely based on the non-ending. I enjoyed the rapid pace of the book and writing style as well as the well developed character. I understood that this is part one but as a reader I felt cheated in that part one had no ending as it simply reads you must buy part 2 to have any resolution. I truly felt baited.
If you’re into The Last of Us (The Game) or Parasite (the manga), this one’s definitely for you. It’s packed with suspense, with plots that are easy to follow and kept my interest all the way through. I’ll admit though, Veronica’s storyline wasn’t my fave, so I did skim her parts a bit. Still, overall, it really piqued my interest and was such a solid read!
Great Story! Easily read, very entertaining! Loved this contemporary relationship with characters! Thrilling! I’m going to start the next book right away!
I became so involved in the wonderfully crafted characters. Clausen make you care about them and feeling their horror and pain. Non-stop action leaving the reader breathless. It is a intensive combination of sifi and horror. Don't miss this series.
Best book yet! I've enjoyed all of this author's books, but this one takes it to a new level. Great, relatable characters and storyline. Can't wait to start the next one in the series!
You kill off the dog that the character loves in the first chapter- nope not finishing this. I’m done. I cannot read something where the dog dies, not even trying to save him.
Fun story, the infection made me uncomfortable which was also fun especially when it grew in their eyes 🤢 I loved it. marked it down a star because when it ended I actually didn't care about reading book 2 and continuing the series, it was still a fun read though and I enjoyed it.
