The third book in a brand new Western adventure series from Dave P. Fisher!
Nolan and his brothers go to the Zamora hacienda to meet with Don Felipe regarding the threats posed by James Mason and Dillon Clarke. They needed to combine their forces and strengthen the alliance between them. In their meeting, Felipe pointed out the strengths and weaknesses they both held. He felt that the two halves of the grant should be reunited to take full advantage of the benefits each could lend to the other. Nolan agreed they both possessed something the other needed, but Felipe’s solution was not what Nolan had expected.
Learning that Nolan did have the proper documents to prove his ownership, Mason needed a new plan to force Zamora and Callahan to relinquish their ownership of the land. Concocting a scheme with Dillon and Esmerelda to kidnap Felipe’s daughter, Teresa, and trade her back for the land, they set the works in motion. The abduction came off smoothly, but now they had a raging mountain lion by the tail as the Zamoras and Callahans declared war on everyone involved, and hell-fire was about to rain down on Mason and Clarke.
I have been a writer of adventure novels of the Old West. I have now branched out to writing contemporary crime novels with a suspense/mystery base. What I feel makes these unique is that they are set in the modern West and Alaska, as opposed to exotic world and big city settings. They involve average people and local law enforcement agencies.
My writing influence comes from my ancestral roots. Mountain men, voyageurs, pioneers, and explorers make up the branches of my family tree. My paternal grandfather was Blackfoot Indian from Montana. My maternal grandfather was a Minnesota lumberjack, both men were born in the 1800’s.
As a lifelong outdoorsman I have inherited that pioneer blood and followed in the footsteps of both my families. I have experienced life in the Alaska bush, as well as the wilderness of the Rocky and Cascade Mountains, as a working cowboy, guide, horsepacker, hunter, and trapper. I also spent several years as a Colorado Deputy Sheriff. This experience in the law enforcement field allows me an intimate insight to the system that I weave into my new crime genre stories. I incorporate all of my experiences into my stories to ingrain them with authenticity and draw the reader into the story by their realism and a personal knowledge of the people and lifestyle involved.
I have near to 500 fiction and non-fiction works published. Included are: 19 novels and short story collections, 70 short stories, and inclusion in 18 anthologies. I am the first 3 time winner of the Will Rogers Medallion Award, in 2008 for Best Western Fiction, and again in 2013 for Best Western Humor, and 2014 for Best Western Novel. Nine of my short stories have earned Reader’s Choice Awards.
SCHEMING, POWER HUNGRY, RUTHLESS THUGS FIND OUT WHAT'S IT LIKE TO GO UP AGAINST THE CALLAHAN'S
12/19/25 Review: ☆☆☆☆☆
One Strong Family: A Western Adventure (The Dragoon Cattle Company Book 3) by Dave P. Fisher is a well-written, action-packed, suspenseful, and heartwarming installment of Dave's five book series of the Callahan brothers and their partners in the Dragoon Cattle Company and the Zamora's ranch who they have banded together for strength against a deranged and manipulative psychopath, her father who is almost as bad, her uncle who is just stupid drunk, her husband who is nothing but a conman out to steal everyone's land, and a crooked politician. Oh yeah, let's not forget the banditos, apaches, Bushwhackers, and Jayhawks, and Red Legs.
As the Callahan's, Nollan, Billy, Levi, Tom, and Mateo, are trying to build their ranch up from the bottom learning their way through it all, it seems as if every were they turn they are fighting to stay alive and protect their own and their ranch every moment leaving little time for working their ranch and supporting their neighbors and friends. What makes things worse, Esmerelda, sister of Xavier Zamora is kidnapped and taken to Mexico to be enslaved and sold into a life of whoring in a border town brothel. All this does is bring out the wrath of the Dragoon Cattle Company men and the men of the Zamora Ranch that leads to a staggering death toll.
I have really enjoyed this book and series so far and can easily say that if you're into a great action-packed western thriller, this book and series is for you. Having already finished the fouth book and well into the fifth book, the action is just building and all hell is going to be released on the evil ruthless murdering and thieving thugs.
The narrative delves deep into the unbreakable brotherhood of these warriors, revealing a profound bond that transcends mere companionship. Throughout the series, their strategic approach becomes evident: they never venture forth in isolation, but always move in a trio, with two remaining behind to safeguard both their comrades and the cherished territory they are defending against opportunistic interlopers., hired guns, and Native Americans. It is very good to see the togetherness and humor displayed by these five men.
A number of strong characters, a breathtaking panoramic setting and plenty of action makes for an entertaining read. The pace is swift, dialogue is well written and the storyline is exciting. Some factual liberties were taken that caused me to cut one star. Most readers probably won't notice, but as a resident of the area, I am aware of time and distance irregularities. Overall, a very good read, and I hope he continues the series!
Darn it, just aa the story is getting real interesting the author stops it. Very clever, us fellas have to start searching for the next book to finish the story! I have to say this is a great story, almost a boys own story but suits me down to the ground with fast brutal action in every chapter. Of course I am now off to get the final book to see how our heroes save the day! Brilliant.
There were myriad misspelled words and improper grammatical errors in this book. A proofreader is needed badly. Fisher’s books are usually proofread better than this one. Story was good but “could of been” instead of ‘could have been’ or ‘could’ve been’ is unacceptable. Disappointed Fisher fan.
This has been a great series from start to the third addition Can not wait for the next book in this series. This author weaves great characters and adventures together very well. Recommend this series
The combining of former Reb's with the Land grant holders make for a fight against the carpet baggers more interesting. Good men and women join forces against those with evil intentions. Enjoyable read.
This is the third book of the Dragoon Cattle Company series. It continues the story begun in the first two books and continues to be a delightful read for me. If you enjoy reading exciting and funny westerns, this is the series for you.
