Keeping his head up and moving forward was what Koda Burke was best at. After having to emancipate himself as a teen and find his own way at a young age, it became part of who he was. The most important part, or so he thought.
Until that the faithful day that chance aligned with fate, and his true worth lay revealed when he met with a dying goddess, someone who had lost hope and all but given up until she felt the call from across the void between dimensions.
Thera Ivorycrown, known as the Beast Queen, had resigned herself to the deaths of her last few faithful. And with it, the ultimate death of her divinity. But when, by pure chance, Koda wandered within range of the ancient speaking wells of her people, the call of his blood and ancestry spoke to her.
The goddess begged him for his aid, as he carries within him the ancient pact of her champions, passed on to him by a distant ancestor of his. An ancestor that Thera had thought lost to the void between dimensions. And Koda answered her call, because she promised him the one thing he sought above all else.
A place to belong, a family to call his own, and a purpose to do more than just survive.
Join Koda as he enters into a new world, meets with species far different from what he is used to, and finds love amidst the chaos of war that has spanned dozens of centuries. Thera and her people’s survival rests on his shoulders, as he is the last of the lost bloodline, returned once more in his people’s time of need.
The MC is a little white knight and we don’t get much reason or personality molding events from his past to account for this “lawful/good Druid of the claw” (my personal description of the MC)
Shitty parents are enough for some things but the book spans 5 days and he’s making peace with being a killer/murderer; sleeping with two Demi-humans: completely new to him YET he pokes fun at anime protagonists that don’t “seal the deal” with love interests, and finally just accepts the existence of gods and semi-sentient artifacts that control/impart combat skills beyond his experience easily. It’s VERY railroad/paint by numbers, if i didn’t see the author wrote other things I’d say this was a really good first book with room for improvement BUT that is not the case and this reads like an young teen novella (ages 12-14).
I won’t be reading book 2 unless I got a dry spell in other stuff to read.
Blush Blush Blush....OMG....Pick a different word!!
The book started out good it had a good plot. I was thoroughly enjoying the book for starters but then The concept of jazz blushing every time I turn around the girl blushed he blushed other girls blushed... @ On and on and on it was like a virgin teenager was writing this book Who had never actually talked to a girl or had a girl flirt with him.....😒..... After a while you just can't take it anymore. Very sorry Very sorry but I cannot Very sorry but I cannot recommend this book. I guess if you're a lonely teenager this book would be perfect for you.
I think given this is M. Tress first foray into haremlit since Monster Girls in Space, it is inevitable that there will be some comparisons drawn between the two. Let's get that out of the way. They are quite different stories in everything from pacing to the world building to the characters and romance to the very genre. But given how good MGiS was it make sense to want to compare his newest to his previous.
Anyway now to actually review it.
On the whole I enjoyed the story. The MC is interesting and I'm looking forward to learn more about his bloodline going forward. The first LI (Sienna) we meet is firey and it takes a little bit for trust to form between MC and her. Things develop somewhat fast between them. Maybe too fast for some. My thing is moreso that I wish we got more time with just the mc and Sienna. Because a second LI is introduced in this book and all I'll say is she is quite assertive. Again, maybe too assertive for some. On the whole, the romance felt good but also a little rushed at times.
Now for the rest, the magic system is fairly straight forward but I do wish it was just a bit more fleshed out. The action scenes were cool and didn't overstay their welcome which I appreciate. The way the MC (and by proxy the reader) got fed information about their new world was realistic if nothing else, but also a little disjointed feeling in actually reading it.
Like I said before I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to more and learning more about Koda and the new world he's found himself in. If you enjoyed MGiS I think you'll enjoy this one too. If you haven't read MGiS you should still check this out and then probably go read that too!
Instead of telling a compelling story with compelling characters and compelling events, the author decided to tell the reader about their latest RPG session in which the character goes to place X, talks with NPC Y, who gives him quest Z. Now, you need to read all the tactics that the character used to win the battle, to return to the questgiver, so he can receive the next quest in that questline (which will likely be as tedious as the one he just did).
I learned nothing about the world, the character, the conflicts, or the events. Just long descriptions of battles and their tactics, with some repetition about the MC's infatuation with his traveling companion (and vice versa).
Somehow, i found the book hard to read, most likely due to the endless small talk. While the plot, per se, would be good, all actions felt strangely wooden to me.
The protagonist felt like an Npc without any motivations of his own. The story insists that hebecame a overpowering warrior just by getting his weapon, training or skills were unnecessary apparently. Funnily enough, that reminded me of Miss Marvel and similar empowering modern Hollywood productions.. It was just fitting, that just like in these productions the protagonist was empowered further by making the other characters strangely slow and passive to have him stand out in comparison..
Another great start to a new series from M. Tress. This book has more action in a single book than his others. However this does not hinder what we expect from M. Tress. Which is great character and world development, relatable and likable characters all while keeping you interested and invested in what happens next. Another series I’m looking forward to reading. When’s book 2?
Our MC is a lonely construction working man when he stumbles upon the hidden portal to another world full of beast kin and a quest to restore a goddess and save her last believers from invaders from another world. Above average editing.
Engaging. Nothing new, and slightly OP, but within reason. Enjoyed. Hope that next book Hans finds a beast kin girl of his own to love.
I'd have to agree with other reviews on this book. It started out strong, even if it was weird how easily Koda accepted the invitation to go to another world. I can see how this would make a good anime, something with a very long absurd title. It has great action scenes. However, I found this very difficult to read and continue reading. So I DNF'ed it. It wasn't for me and did not grab my attention.
Decent portal/chosen-one story. A lot happens in a short period of time, so at the end of this one the world is only beginning to open up. The harem is a slow build, and the rationale for the MC's attractiveness to certain females is logical within the story. I like that there are women resistant to his charms, as "magic dick" stories are a weak foundation to start from and hard to execute well. On to book 2, so we'll see where this goes.
This guy has put out so many books this year and they're all great. I wasn't sure he could follow up monster girls in space with it's charming cast, but he's certainly getting there with this one
This story is quite action packed and still has room for characters relationships to grow. Can't wait to see what happens next
An interesting storyline with lots of possibilities for book 2. The characters were we.ll written with good personalities. The author did a good job with writing so that the reader could easily identify who was talking. The book was easy to read and I enjoyed it enough to be impatient waiting for book 2. Thanks M. Tress for a good story.
Great story, I love the characters and the way the relationships develop. I love that the spicy bits are clearly marked if you would like to skip them ( I would not recommend skipping. They are great). All in all, it's a great book. I've had this Authors or book in my list, and I'm going to move it into a definitely read after this one!
I loved everything about this book!! Well explained and excellent character building. The characters really came to life and inner acted in such a believable way. I can't get enough of this well written and fantastic story. I could definitely read it again. It never drags or gets boring and not over told. Just the right amount of details. Thx!!!
A very familiar beginning to this story but that in know way makes this story any less!!! Absolutely fabulous writing and editing make the flow of this story so easy to read!!! Wonderful characters, an interesting world and non stop adventures are so well written you will not want to put this story down!!! I can't wait to read what comes next!!!
I enjoyed the story, but honestly it felt a little bit shallow, hopefully the author can bulk up the story a bit. It was too much in a rush to keep getting back into action and battles that it could use a slice of life chapter or two to balance it out. Of course this is just my preference as I would like to get to know the characters a bit more.
So far I’ve loved everything I’ve read from M. Tress, and this is no exception, a fun world that we barely start to discover in this first tome, characters with depth, cool magic, I will be waiting for book 2
I am absolutely in love with the idea for this book, was just hooked from the first few chapters. I can’t wait to see where adventure takes these growing characters! 20/10 would recommend
A different take on the human from our world goes to help out another. Mix in a primordial goddess and a people in need of survival and it comes together satisfactorily. A heroic fantasy with litRPG thrown in. Eagerly anticipating a second tale......
Amazing Isekai book!! I love the world building and characters development. Characters who grow and develop is always delightful. This is a good story, and it has spicy scenes as well. I am going to buy the next book now!!
This has a fascinating story line to it. So many twists and turns that will surprise you. Exciting battle with strange opponents. Hard to put down once it Hooks you in.
I really enjoyed the character development and the plot line. Never got bored reading this, and looked forward to what was coming next. I highly recommend this book.
I love this story! Great character building and world building. I love the battles and the spice! Except for Todd…no one likes Todd. I’m kidding…Todds cool.😎
DNF, I usually like these type of books but could not get into this one. It is rushed and I did not care about the MC. The relationships are rushed and I found I did not care for any of them.
