Lady Felicity Quick #8
Murder by the Thames: A 1920s Cozy Mystery
A stroll along the River Thames reveals breathtaking views of the Tower of London, Big Ben … and a body in the water!
England, 1922. London is a dazzling change from Lady Felicity Quick’s life in rural Devon, and her first case as a professional private detective is proving a rousing success.
Investigating a string of daring thefts at an exclusive Bond Street jeweller has introduced Felicity to bustling theatres, lively music clubs, and the glamour of London’s high society. It’s also brought her closer to Mr Alexander Cooper, the London-born journalist on whom Felicity is rather keen.
But when a jaunt to the river takes a sinister turn, Felicity is drawn into an even deeper mystery involving the most fascinating and fashionable denizens of England’s capital. Beneath the glitter, there’s a world of secrets and danger — including a troubling connection to the family Felicity dreams of joining through marriage.
Can Felicity solve the case and make sense of her future with Alex? Or will London’s darker side leave her dreams — and her very existence — adrift in murky waters?
If you love witty and determined heroines like Lady Hardcastle and Maisie Dobbs and the twist-filled historical mysteries of Helena Dixon and Agatha Christie, then don’t miss Murder by the Thames!

This was an ARC copy from the author, I received nothing in return for this review. This book was an absolutely delightful read and wonderful edition to the series! The characters are engaging, and the setting draws you in. The mystery within held my attention to the very end! A must-read for all Cozy Mystery fans!

Murder by the Thames by Rosie Hunt is a Lady Felicity Quick mystery wherein Felicity is taking a break from writing and pursuing investigations full time. She is working in a fine jewelry story, seeking a thief who most certainly is an employee. But, you know Felicity, knowing who isn’t enough; she needs to know why. This searching leads her into deep waters, even murder, nearly her own. Fortunately she has Alex nearby, aiding her in every move. They have admitted their feelings for one another and it actually makes things easier. She has met and spent a lot of time with his family and has come to care for them. Emily, the youngest, wants to be a photographer. Her parents can’t understand why she can’t take portraits wherein she could make money, but she has a real eye for an excellent photo. It is truly art. Until she disappeared. Meanwhile, Felicity became embroiled in organized crime, namely protection. The men have been in Alex’s other sister, Clara’s, shop and she and Alex witnessed it all. Plus they run into an illegal casino in the back of a bar. Nothing is ever easy.
Felicity is a great character. Times are changing and an aristocratic lady like herself has more opportunities than she has had in the past, and more independence. She is able to spend time with Alex without the inconvenience of a chaperone and work in a shop, although her real job is as a writer and a detective. All of these are only newly possible. Terrific character: watching her adjust, and watching those around her adjust as well. Clothing styles are changing as well and it is now the era of the flapper. We know how she affords all this clothing. We do not know how Alex does. What started off as a case of internal theft morphed into murder, well, several; protection; and a shop-lifting ring. All very dangerous and exciting. Felicity and Alex are a terrific duo and the crimes are solvable, although mysterious. In at least one, Felicity’ place in society is a help to seeing justice done. Terrific book!
I was invited to read Murder on the Thames by the author. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #RosieHunt #MurderOnTheThames

This is another great read in a very enjoyable series. Felicity is in London meeting Alex's family and also undercover in a jeweller's shop in her first private investigation role to find who is stealing valuable items from the shop. Things become more complicated when she finds her investigation bringing her into contact with the local gang life and protection rackets.
I loved the change of scenery here from the countryside locale to the hustle and bustle of Covent Garden and the busy stall life. The interactions with Alex's family were great, awkward yet with plenty of humour interspersed. The story itself is not as straightforward as I initially thought and I loved the insight into various shady activities. The ending has me very intrigued for the next book. It all seemed to end very pleasantly and then a spanner is certainly thrown in the works. Hope there's not too long a wait!

There was a lot going on in this mystery. Thefts, murder, threats, and a whole load of menacing bad guys. I enjoyed watching Felicity solving the mysteries. But I felt sad for some of the culprits as much as the victims. That sounds odd but you'll get it when you read it. I loved seeing Felicity in the city and also enjoyed her self confidence in handling everything. And I adore how supportive Alex is. He is very progressive in his views of women's capabilities. He is a great partner for her.
Loved this book. Love the series. Looking forward to the next one, especially after the ending! What is coming next?

Violence: yes, off page murder, threatening situations

Lady Felicity Quick is undercover on her first official investigation, involving a series of jewelry thefts. While in London she will also meet the family of her prospective beau, journalist Alex Cooper. Felicity is gaining confidence in her abilities, but is she out of her depth in the big, bad city? Murder, gangsters, and protection rackets keep Felicity and Alex busy in between work and family dinners. Lots of twists and turns, colorful characters, and secrets make this a compelling read. I have enjoyed all of the entries in this series, and am looking forward to the next adventure!
I received a free copy from the author, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

In this Lady Felicity mystery, Lady Felicity is working as a private detective in London on the case of a thief who is stealing jewelry from a jewelry store. She is also trying to become friendly with Alex's family. Alex, in the meantime, is working with his friend, Oliver, on exposing a protection racket.
There are a lot of twists and turns and interconnections and this is a very enjoyable read that ends on a cliff hanger! I highly recommend this book. I received a free advance copy and this is my honest review.

Solid and most enjoyable read‼️
This time we get to meet Alex's family and these dynamics come into play throughout the storyline to solve the mystery. There are multiple avenues of exploration for Felicity and crew~ protection rackets, theft rings, blackmail, seedy haunts, unscrupulous characters, and ultimately murder! Such variety!! There's a moderate amount of romance on more than one front but overall it's quite refreshing. We also see Alex strive to support Felicity against the societal norms! Bravo Alex! Really great series! Catch them all😃

Lady Felicity Quick goes undercover as a private Investigator to uncover jewellery thefts from prestigious Eldridge and Co. Bodies of young men and women are found on the side of the river which complicates the case. There is a lot going on than meets the eye . An intriguing read which deals with a unscrupulous gang and which has you on the edge of your seat. I received this ARC copy and recommend this book to other readers .

Don’t get me wrong this was a great story but I missed the countryside and the pace of living there. Learning about 1920’s London was great fun and so was this story. There were some great twists I never saw coming and I am happy to say I was completely fooled as to the true culprit. Love a great mystery like that. Omg the revelation by Jasper at the end what?! Can’t wait to see where that leads Cici and Alex next!

This is a great series and this book is a long a different line to most as it is set in London not the countryside. There are lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. It is also full colourful characters which makes it difficult to spot the villain. I have enjoyed all of the books in this series and am looking forward to more. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I enjoyed the view into Alex's Family's life and the complexities surrounding his sister. It made this a more vibrant and down to earth story telling. I liked the hint of something amiss in the jewelry store robberies. But beneath all the crime and skullduggery is the blossoming romance of Alex and Felicity. This was a most enjoyable read!!!!!

Cici's very first job as a P.I., coupled with meeting Alex's family in London, a world away from quiet Devon and people she knows. But with Alex's staunch support and the love that they share, things are not as daunting as they appear.
Another good read from Rosie Hunt. Can hardly wait until the next books as that promises even more intriguing stuff!!

Lady Felicity is out of her comfort zone in the big city, but she still charms everyone she meets. Though with Alex's family, she has to work a bit harder! Rosie Hunt always writes about diverse settings and weaves their unique character into the story. This time both the glitz and the dark underside of London. I recommended read for those that love rich cozy mysteries.

Different
I think I like Lady Felicity’s adventures in Devon better. London made it quite complicated. I loved the Cooper family. I liked Bessie set in her eye on the Inspector and I liked seeing more of Jasper. Now I want to read the next one to know what was kept secret from Felicity.

Lots of twists and turns!
A very goid read. Lots of twists and turns with intertwining story lines that all eventually meet. Meeting Alex's family helped in understanding his personality.

Brilliant!
The Cozy Mystery genre interests me only for the mysteries themselves. They all seem to follow the same character formula, much like a Hallmark movie plot. This was my introduction to this series. I found it intriguing and well written!
