I had so much expectations for Broken dreams.
I have never taken so long to read a book especially when I was super excited to read it and I purchased it immediately!
I really wanted to love Broken Dreams because the book’s idea and tropes sounded so promising.
But honestly? Broken dreams is literally an unpolished Wattpad novel than a fully realized book. The pacing was all over the place: some parts were dragged unnecessarily while others were rushed, leaving little room for character and relationship development.

The story has a lot of potential but the writing style was another letdown. It lacked the finesse and depth needed to elevate the story. Instead, it relied on clichés…WATTPAD CLICHES and overly dramatic moments that felt forced rather than earned. Dialogues from top to bottom came off as stiff or unrealistic.

I also found the characters to be a mixed bag.
Azrah’s faith and resilience were admirable tho❤️ and that was the only thing I really enjoyed in the book.

The way her relationship with Aimar developed felt unconvincing. Aimar’s supposed ‘transformation’ from a cold, distant man to someone ‘in love’ did not feel like growth but more like a checklist of clichés in romance tropes.

The cultural and religious representation was good, and I can see why some readers connected with that aspect.
It was beautiful.
But good intentions and themes can’t make the book good. The hype around this book feels misplaced, and I think many people are romanticizing it more for what it could have been than what it actually is.

It’s not the worst book out there, but it’s certainly not as groundbreaking and exceptional as some of the reviews make it seem and I was highly disappointed.

Qudrah should really work on the next novel. Give yourself time to improve. I get that the excitement is there and very strong now but you have a lot of polishing you’re leaving undone.

And the award goes to... Qudrah Adam!
I loved it! You brought all my imaginations into a book. I really appreciate how you represented Islam and explained that culture and Islam are not the same. I can’t lie, I caught a little crush on Aimar. And when you said, “Look out for the next book in the Billionaire series… BROKEN,” I was shocked. I’m honestly so glad I read this, I’m lost for words. There were several moments where I was about to cry. I might read it again, can’t lie. Best enemies-to-lovers I’ve read so far. Best halal love story I’ve read so far.
I deeply appreciate that you jumped straight into the action. And I’ll and with my favourite saying of Aimar Ali: “Death can’t have you, not now, not ever. If fate insists on taking one of us, let it be me. For without you, the world would lose its warmth, its light, and its meaning. You are my home, my heart.”

5 stars wasn’t even enough. genuinely speaking one of the best romances i have read in a minute. very pg. but bro the tropes, enemies to lovers, mr grumpy and sunshine girl, rich but cold husband. genuinely speaking. beautiful book. i love how the elements of islam and the importance of salah was emphasised throughout the book. how without salah quite literally everything in your life will never be right. how those around you can impact you.

the small things he does to make her happy and how he picks up on the smallest things to surprise her with later. i love a beautiful halal love story. a black muslim love story on top of that.

shout out to my friends who got voicenotes or had to listen to me gush, blush giggle about this book. you man are real ones😭

the highlighter had to even come out

The only reason I did not DNF this book was because of curiosity. It started in an odd way that I had to convince myself to keep my mind open & see where it ended. Perhaps my opinion would shift. It didn’t shift.

First off, well done to the writer Qudrah. As a debut book, I salute her bravery & my review of this book is not intended to downplay her hard work.

Now that that’s out of the way, Broken Dreams wasn’t that great. Starting from the FMC whose sole purpose all through was to get married or be married. I don’t blame her for following what the society expected of her. However, the book did not suggest she had any other plans outside of ending up in a man’s house. Regardless of how she was treated.
She also seemed immature, which I quite understand cos she’s only 22 years old.
It would’ve been nice to see some character development on that end. What was her background like? What were her interests??

Then the MMC (my most h@ted character): How can you go from being hostile & rude to not just your wife but to everyone around her to being the model man?
His love & actions felt disingenuous. His use of harsh, mean words on people rubbed me off the wrong way.
The story felt like the love happened simply because it was expected to happen. There was no connection, no chemistry.

The dialogue? Unnatural. I don’t want to get into details. I just had the strong urge to roll my eyes 90% of the time.

It didn’t hit the mark for me.
However, what I did appreciate was how it shed light on the abusive culture in the north under the guise of religion.

This read like a Wattpad book and when I saw that the author originally published this on Wattpad, it made sense. The biggest problem in Broken Dreams is how underwhelming the writing is. I really wanted to love the story, as the plot was pretty endearing. However, it felt like the author struggled to flesh out the characters, resulting in how disjointed this book felt.

What a beautiful book! At first, I was genuinely frustrated with Aimar, he was so annoying. But as the story progressed, I couldn’t help but warm up to him.
Azrah was so patient and sweet. She deserves every single thing he did for her and more. She’s one of the female lead that didn’t piss me off lol throughout the book.

This book masterfully explores themes of love, loss, and family. It highlights how life can change in the blink of an eye when you lose someone special, and the delicate process of navigating grief and healing. It also delves into the impact of family pressure and how it can shape someone’s relationships with others.

It’s nearly impossible not to love this book. I’m thrilled that my first read of the year turned out to be a solid 5-star experience!

Broken Dreams by Qudrah Adam is a captivating story that beautifully weaves love, faith, and cultural connections. The characters, Aimar and Azrah, are incredibly well-written, and their journey from conflict to building a deep and meaningful love is both touching and inspiring. I especially loved how the book highlighted Azrah's spirituality and her connection to faith, which added depth to the story. Despite coming from different countries, I could relate so much to the cultural elements, making the book even more special. A must-read for anyone who enjoys heartfelt romance with meaningful themes.
I am Senegalese, and even though our countries are different, I love the fact that our cultures are quite similar.

While reading this book, it felt too wattpadish and when I eventually saw it was first published on wattpad I wasn’t surprised…

This book had potential, like a huge one but it just wasn’t flowing well…. Though honestly for a debut book, it wasn’t bad. I applaud the author but it just wasn’t for me.

OK. As an aspiring author myself, I know how much courage it takes to put your work out there. It’s like handing over a piece of your soul for the world to judge. And for a debut novel, kudos to the author, truly.

Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end for me. I’ll try to keep this as constructive as possible, but disclaimer: my sarcastic spirit animal tends to get a little too excited when unleashed, especially during book reviews.

I wanted to love this book. I really did. I love seeing more representations of trauma-free books with girls like myself. I rooted for it like a proud auntie at graduation. But the only reason I finished was sheer hope, even bordering on delusional, was that the hyped parts were still hiding somewhere in the pages ahead. Spoiler: they weren’t. By the time I reached the end, my hope had died along with my interest😔.

The writing, in short, felt unpolished and more like a primary school composition than a finished novel. There were so many unnecessary details that added nothing to the story but bulk. I don’t need a play-by-play of every time a character goes to work. If Azrah wants to go to the office, please, just let her go in peace.

I don’t need to know how she wakes up, bathes, dresses, drives (as opposed to paddles?), parks, and walks in — every single time. This over-description happens throughout about most of the MC's activities, and it distracts heavily from the main story.

Now, let’s talk about the characters.

It took me half the book to realize Aimar was supposed to be the classic “grumpy” love interest. Except, there’s a thin line between “grumpy” and “arrogant, disrespectful man-child with a superiority complex.” Aimar dances proudly on the latter. That woman was actually being sweet to this daughter, who has taken a liking to her. And all he did was constantly shout at her and forbid her from seeing her?!

A tragic past doesn’t excuse vile behavior or talking down to people 🤮. I don’t care how many orphans he buys gifts for, I’m not buying his redemption arc. Apart from constantly being hostile towards Azrah, upto the point of physically manhandling the poor girl (the scene where he grabbed her arm too tight), the Kano trip sealed it for me: Azrah’s cousin makes an innocent joke about him breaking her heart, and this man loses it — shouting at her like he’s allergic to joy. Sir, why are you screaming at little girls? It’s a universal joke, not a war declaration.

For me therein lies his true character. Not in how became sweet overnight and started showering Azrah with gifts and sweet nothings because he suddenly had a boner for her.

Now to Azrah. She wasn’t unbearable, just painfully forgiving (God knows she needs it for being with a man like that). I admired her spirituality, resilience, and faith, but I desperately wanted her to develop a backbone, to stand up for herself, and draw boundaries. I wish she didn't welcome him so easily when he finally came to some low-level version of sense. She deserved better than Aimar. Honestly, most people do.

Plot-wise, the story had potential. A strong premise, emotional themes, and the chance to really shine. But execution? Wobbly. Unrealistic. Overly indulgent. Some scenes defied logic. I know its fiction and but still, some of it was plain absurd. Forgive my middle-income class ignorance, but like how these characters hop on flights to Dubai, Italy, Saudi Arabia on zero notice? And with Nigerian passports o?!!!. Please. I’m begging for just one mention of a visa application.

The political subplot with the president, his daughter, and the “King of the North” (Game of Thrones who?) nearly sent me into orbit. Or how about her room and a whole ass library being setup in just the few hours she left for work? I know he is a billionaire , but unless he had some magical elfs lying around, even money can't defy physics.

The dialogue often felt shallow, and many scenes lacked the emotional depth they were clearly aiming for. Still, there’s visible potential here. The author has a strong imagination, it just needs more discipline, refinement, and believable structure.

And finally… that breakfast scene. I don't know why out of the myriad of absurdities in this book, this particular scene triggered me.

If a man flies me to Dubai on his private jet, lodges me in his diamond-studded mansion, and then serves me waina (rice pancakes) for breakfast? I’m sorry, but I’m filing for emotional damages. Don't piss me off. You had all of Abuja to play chef, and you waited until I was expecting a five-star brunch buffet to whip out your “humble homemade specialty”? Maybe it’s a sweet gesture. Or maybe, like Aimar, I am just an ungrateful brat.

Final thoughts: The book has heart, but it needs more polish, more realism, and far less tolerance for toxic men with savior complexes. Still, I genuinely hope the author keeps writing because the raw potential is there. It just needs sharper execution and less homemade waina.

MASTER-goddamn-PIECE !!! 😭❤️

I ABSOLUTELY loved this book.

The storyline was such original and it exploits every aspect and side Islamic commitment in marriage want to teach. Though, the message was such clear like the writer was directly talking to me. And with that she studied Nigerian—African behavior toward women in marriage. What I appreciated the most was the way she valued her country cuz I heard a lot of authors saying they couldn’t. And how smart was she referring Qudrah Kitchen, I was like “wow that’s genuinely amazing.”

Azrah, what a strong and sweet woman, at the first page I was like “she gonna suffer for sure,” but I was agreeably impressed that by the end she changed a lot in positive ways, putting herself at the top then others. Her psychology couldn’t be better than this, I promise.

AIMAR MF ALI. Yeah, I know you said this words are for ppl with limited vocabulary but I couldn’t say anything greater to qualify you. Like man, you were a goddamn masterpiece as well as Azrah, such a broken heart man who put others first, the way you fixed yourself and this lady was sooo WONDERFUL. But for real he deserves the world at his feet. What a MAN. Words can’t describe you, sorry but not sorry…

Their relationship was HALAL, that being said, they did everything correctly as asked in Islam, yet at the beginning I was like man, ugh, stop that but how the guy fell first and harder…that was everything.

Overall, the story was so good to read, very good written characters, and for the plot twist, I’ve nothing to say cuz it was UNPREDICTABLE. I enjoyed my lecture and at the end I was like “okay, who stole the rest of my book?”😭

PS: Mr. Ali, I don’t know which car to buy, that is it mean I can get em all !?? Luv ya ! ❤️

The novel beautifully captures the emotional journey of Azrah as she navigates grief and the complexity of her new relationship with Aimar. There was a character development as shown by azrah's patience and sweetness in contrast with Aimar's initial disdain for love (I wanted knocking some sense into him at first)..... Arhhh, I want someone to have a heart attack for me just because he loves me 💘😭 (hehehehe 😂)
It delves into the delicate process of healing and family pressure in relationships 😞.
The cultural element added to the story also highlights the importance of faith and spirituality.
It got to a point I said - ah ahn, no spice 😮‍💨??...
so yes no spice, it's a pure halal story that you need to read as you move into the month of Ramadan..
Chaiii, it's good to have money 🥲💰.
Overall, Broken Dreams is a captivating story that resonates with readers who appreciate emotional depth and realistic portrayals of human experiences. It's a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love to heal even the deepest wounds.

I'm giving this a 4⭐⭐⭐⭐
It was good for a debut novel and I wanted to drop it towards the end but I said nooo, I must finish this and it was worth it 💕💞

Since I first discovered this book (can’t remember where), it grabbed my interest, and I was so excited to read it.

First, my biggest issue. I found the exposition confusing, particularly the circumstances in which Azrah and Aimar were arranged to be married. Maybe it needs a second read through to get a better understanding, but that wasn’t clear to me. Honestly, I considered DNF’ing in the first act.

But I couldn’t deny that the development of Azrah and Aimar’s relationship was enjoyable to read. I went from hating Aimar to adoring him. I could tell that despite his cold demeanor, he really valued the people he loved most.

Azrah shone as a model of strength. Even after her fiancé died and she was forced to marry Aimar, she didn’t completely fall apart. She treated everyone she met graciously, which was significant if it thawed the ice king.

I love seeing positive representations of Islam, where one or both characters have a good relationship with their religion. It inspires me to strengthen my own faith, especially as we reach the end of Ramadan.

I’m disappointed and not disappointed at the sane time. Trust Tiktok to hype a mediocre book.
It is nice reading from both of their points of view, but it felt repetitive, like I was reading the same passage twice.

The plot had no depth; it felt like I was reading those short mini stories available on the internet, and the characters had no depth. Aimar went from this cold, rude, and annoying jerk to “my wife is my world.” The pacing is unusual.

I am a sucker for cringy, lovey-dovey moments, and I got some of it from the book. I enjoyed the representation of struggling with one’s faith, and the culture/tradition vs. religion theme.

Aimar Ali is a childish person who doesn’t know how to handle his emotions. I hated the way Aimar talked to his wife. I do not care about the circumstances behind their marriage; it doesn’t give him the right to order his wife or talk to her like he’s talking to a dog.

I loved Azrah’s character. She is a strong, intelligent woman who stands her ground.

🌟 1.5 - 2 stars

I really wanted to like Broken Dreams, especially after all the hype I saw on TikTok — but unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me. I was so disappointed.

One of the things that bothered me most was the repeated scenes: I had to read certain moments twice — once from Ali’s perspective and then again from Azhra’s. It didn’t add anything new for me and honestly made the pacing feel slow.

By the time I reached 50% of the book, I realized I just couldn’t keep going. It didn’t hold my attention. Some parts of the writing felt more like a list of events rather than a flowing, immersive story. It lacked emotion and depth for me.

Buuut — if you loved this book, please tell me what I’m missing! I genuinely want to understand why it hits for so many people. Maybe I’ll give it another try later 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it just wasn’t for me, but I expected a lot more.

3.7 ⭐️

I really liked that this was a slow-burn romance—it just made sense given the sensitivity of Azrah’s situation after losing her husband.

Maybe it’s a little sadistic to say, but I actually appreciated the way the grief was portrayed. It wasn’t rushed; everything unfolded at a natural, relatable pace. I also love that it took over 200 pages for them to actually fall in love. Qudrah Adams handled that so well, giving the story the time it needed to feel authentic.

Now, I cannot wait to read Adesuwa and Armani’s storyyy!! ❤️

This book is so good 😍😍 even though aimar kept annoying me 🤣🤣 but one thing that stood out for me was azrah’s devotion to her religion despite what life kept throwing at her, she never stopped praying. Also I love how their love blossomed despite how our oga was forming Mr hard guy🤣. Broken dreams is a must read and I’m rating it 1000000000/100

And Azrah's dedication to Allah was beautiful, she always made out time to pray which said a lot. It was a beautiful and heartwarming read❤️
