On the savage frontier, the Grey Fortress is besieged. Within is an entire legion of imperial soldiers. Outside is a horde of the barbarian tribes, eager to drive an ancient enemy from their lands at last. And among them is Videric Wolf-Bitten.
The ferocious young warrior came for glory, but soon has a personal motive for vengeance. He sets his sights on the legion commander, determined to take his skull and wave it before the baying hordes. But more stands in his way than mere men. The Grey Fortress hides an ancient, deadly secret, and within its shadows, as battle rages and blood flows, as an age ends and a new one begins, Videric will find his greatest challenge.
Born and still living in north Iceland in 1982, Elí divides his spare time between the gym, the swimming pool, video games, walks, reading, baking and writing about himself in the third person. His first fantasy novel was published in Iceland in 2011, followed by a self-published one each year. In 2015 he finished translating the first of a trilogy into English and published online. And that's how history was made.
An excellent start to what could be a sword and sorcery legacy with endless possibilities. I recently read one of Freysson’s short stories and knew this release was going to be to my liking. The author states this is his homage to Robert E Howard, so if you enjoy Howard as much as I do, then this will satisfy your hunger. I am going on to the second book. Highly recommend!
A Norse saga meets the fall of Rome meets a throughly wrought pastiche of Robert E. Howard. Outstanding action, and a likeable (if not entirely friendly) hero bind the whole thing together.
If you hold love for sword & sorcery in your heart, read it.
This old fashion novel is well written and has a action packed plot. There is a touch of Robert E. Howard's style through the pages. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sword and sorcery.
