Charlie McGinley

Not Dead Again

Rate this book
Charlie McGinley writes about tough guys…then he has to become one.Fed up with writing cheesy detective fiction, Charlie dreams of writing something serious. Unfortunately, his publisher insists that he keep cranking out hard-boiled Johnny Dent PI novels.

When Charlie stumbles across an urban legend about Thomas Edison inventing a machine that could speak to the dead, he thinks he’s found the perfect gimmick to spice up his next book.

That is, until he builds the "Ghost Machine" and accidentally uses it...

And people in his small New Mexico town start dying.

Suddenly, Charlie must become the hero he’s spent his career writing tough, quick-witted and fearless. The only problem? He’s none of those things.

If you’re looking for razor-sharp humor blended with edge-of-your-seat suspense, you’ll love Not Dead Again—the fourth book in the Charlie McGinley Mystery series.

Pick it up today.

SAM INGRAFFIA has been a professional writer for over three decades.

During his long career, he has won numerous awards, including the Gold Medal from Global Book Awards for his novel Bad Bones.

He was born in Chicago but grew up in Los Angeles. He attended UCLA and shortly after graduating with honors, began his writing and acting career.

Sam had no show business connections when he started in the industry, so his original plan was to write material for himself to help his burgeoning acting career.

“In the beginning, I was the only one who would cast me.”

He and another actor wrote a short pilot presentation in which they played the two leads. They performed excerpts from the project at comedy clubs and showcases all around Los Angeles. The project was eventually optioned by Universal Studios. The pilot never sold, but that was the beginning of his long, successful career as a writer.

Ingraffia has written novels, short stories, feature films, episodic television, network pilots, Pink Panther cartoons, stage plays, HBO comedy specials and multiple internet series.

As an actor, he’s made over 100 film and television appearances.

When Sam's not in his office writing, or on a set acting, he can often be found in his home workshop finishing a woodworking project. He's built or refinished most of the furniture in his home. He still lives in Los Angeles with his wife and their two cats, Oscar and Felix.

I probably should have read the first one in this series, but this was well written. The author seemed to use short chapters as a way to move the story forward when actually spending more time with each character in their predicaments would have done better to build the tension they were try to create. Otherwise a solid premise, good characters and interesting idea.

I haven’t read the earlier Charlie McGinley stories but this one stood alone. This is an enjoyable, humorous read with some serious topics treated well, an occult edge, guest appearances by Eddison (perhaps he was a better guy than history told me?) and a satisfying ending.

This is a good subway book t-shirt chapters and well connected. My only complaint was getting to know the characters' names. The story line was clever
