Memories by the Shore

Avery--

A whirlwind summer at eighteen left me with the best and the worst memories. Now, living a life of controlled independence, my heart is kept safe, never to be given to another. A proposal for the perfect marriage with a man I’m not marrying for love, but security is what I need.

But one thing keeps this transactional life from moving forward— unfinished business in Coconut Grove. I must return to the small coastal town to tie up some loose ends, but what I’m not prepared for are the feelings that come rushing back as soon as I’m face-to-face with my first love.

Jasper--

Some might say we were too young to fall in love and for what occurred those warm summer months eight years ago. Our days spent on the shore came with excitement and despair. Only a young man, I met the woman who would change my life forever. With her stoic demeanor and dark confidence, I was addicted.

My love for her has been like a ghost-it’s never died. Suddenly, she’s come barging back into my life, demanding something I cannot give her. Can I rewrite the wrongs of the past and convince her to choose me, or am I destined for another heartbreak I won’t make it through?

What a way to end this series! This book was so much more than just a small town beachy romance. It had a little of everything you’d want in a romance including some extras.

-Surfer guys
-Found family
-A supportive hippie Aunt
-Guy group
-Small town vibes
-Mental health rep
-Secret tattoos
-An adorable meet cute
-First loves
-Romance book banter

Mental health plays a key roll in this book. More specifically, men’s mental health which we don’t see often in books. Without giving away too many spoilers, the depression chapters had me in a chokehold!

MJ has tackled mental health themes throughout this entire series and has done so with such grace. Please check your trigger warnings!

I loved the meet cute! Adorable! And the growth with both characters from the younger chapters to the older ones were amazing. You feel like you’re growing up with them. There were some good steamy scenes too!

And why do I love it so much when all four girls get together?? Their friend group is goals and I’m here for the strong woman vibes!

Thank you MJ for allowing me to ARC read each one of these books. I’m so sad to see this series end, but I can’t wait to see what’s next for you!

What a way to end a series!! Memories by the Shore is the last book in the Tangerine Sky Series and is an amazing end to such an incredible set of stories! The group of girlfriends over the last three books has become one of my very favorites, ever; the way they love, support, and understand each other is inspiring! I have so been looking forward to Avery’s story and this did not disappoint, it is so different from the other three - however still as deeply emotional and heartwarming.

I loved the back and forth timelines, showcasing where Avery and Jasper’s story began as everything in real time was playing out. Loved the overwhelming and all consuming feelings you get from them when they first fall in love at 18/19 - this really encompass that feeling of young love and just how fragile it can be.

This story is an extremely impactful second chance romance - it will truly break your heart before it puts it all back together again. Unforeseen circumstances tear these two apart; there are too many variables for their young love to overcome, that they just at the time can’t handle. Avery is battling her grief and Jasper is handling his depression. Both heavy topics that are handled so well. There’s nothing like tragedy and the loss of your first love to set the scene for an emotionally charged romance. Avery finds herself back in Coconut Grove after eight years needing a divorce from Jasper that never happened.

Absolutely here for the chemistry and banter between Avery and Jasper. In the beginning and even after eight years, Jasper is a man obsessed - he is not willing to let Avery go now that she is back in his life. These two grow so much over the years they are apart. Both of them never really moved on because they have been in love with each other the whole time. The emotional growth we see from both Avery and Jasper is incredible, showcasing that their love was infinite, it was all a matter of right person, wrong time. But now is there time, they finally get their own happily ever after.

If you’re a fan of heartfelt, second chance romances all set in a cute beach town with amazing side characters then this is the book for you! This one was heart wrenchingly beautiful with an amazing redemption in the end and the most perfect HEA! And, if you haven’t, make sure to read the other three books in the series to learn about the other couples in the Tangerine Sky series.

Thank you so so much to M.J. Huxley and Luna Literary for the early copy! Like always, the books you write make me laugh, cry, and feel incredibly deep emotions that linger long after I have finished your book!

Book Review: Memories by the Shore by: MJ Huxley

I’ve been on this journey with MJ and her books from book one and I loved it so much. Not only because it takes place in my hometown which made it super relatable to me. But for the depth and richness she writes in each book! The stories have wonderful plots and amazing characters and they develop so much in the stories. What a way to end and incredible series! It’s so much deeper than a first love or a summer romance. It touches on really heavy topics like depression specifically in men and miscarriage and how that can really affect a relationship and the love the couple has sometimes may seem like not enough.

Being someone with chronic depression I felt for Jasper and how just basic things really were debilitating. Especially the aspects of the medication I myself really struggled with coming to terms with needing that kind of help and being ok and knowing it doesn’t mean you’re broken or weak. I also have walked in Avery’s shoes and know that loss so I really loved how MJ unfolded this story and then pushed these two back together.

These stories go way deep and heal you while threading in these amazing found families and swoony and steamy moments. I loved the banter and genuine care each character had for the MC and their friends. I hope she is going to do a spinoff with the guys in this story I want to have theirs now. And I hope we get a novella years down the road and see how these couples are doing. Wonderful job MJ I loved every moment of this journey and can’t wait to see what’s in store next.

"I've waited eight years for you to come back to me. No one has even come close to you. You know how hard that was?" His breath dances across my lips. I fight my urge not to dip my head and kiss him.
"How hard it was for you? I haven't been able to love anyone else like I've loved you. You stole my fucking heart, stomped on it, and refused to give it back."

A beautiful second chance story filled with deep emotions that will capture your heart and make you feel would be how I describe Memories by the Shore.

Jasper and Avery’s story is everything second romances are made of. I really enjoyed the back and forth between the timelines. It made it so much better as you get to see their story start as a young summer love that grows beyond words, how it completely shatters due to events beyond their control to how they’ve managed their lives and grown since. They are the definition of right person, wrong time and I’m so glad they got their timing right the second time even if it wasn’t under the best of circumstances. They chemistry was off the charts and their banter was even better. They were really made for each other!

I really liked how the author approached the mental health rep in this book. It was done honestly and respectfully.

I definitely recommend this book!

I would like to thank M.J. Huxley for the opportunity to read and review Memories by the Shore.

A great small town read, first loves, and found family.

I love the role mental health plays in the story; it is accurately represented with grace and reality. Check the trigger warning if you need to.

I experienced many emotions while reading, and my heart did take a beating at times, but the journey was worth it. Jasper and Avery have a second chance, and we get their full story via flashbacks. What started as young summer love but never really went away. The chemistry is there, and the banter is on point. Will this be their time?

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This was a beautiful yet bittersweet ending to the Tangerine Sky Series, this couple, Avery and Jasper have my whole heart. I didn't want to say goodbye to them. I laughed, cried, and cheered with them.

Avery loses her parents and is sent to live with her Aunt Helen in a small beach town, who's more of a mom and friend than her actual parents.

Her first night there, she gets hit with a volleyball by the local surfer guy who just so happened to be nearby.

They become friends and so much more, spending time together, surfing, falling head over heels in love until reality comes crashing to the shore.

Jasper's mental health journey is so real and raw, living with depression and how it affects everyday life. They are tore apart until Avery comes back to town and things fall back to the way it was back then....or does the past put more between them?

Thank you M.J. for letting me read this early, I wish I could live in Coconut Grove with them and eat all the tacos!

Thanks to @authormjhuxley for the #gifted copy of this book

"My love for you is both steady and chaotic, just like the Pacific."

Summary: Avery and Jasper had a whirlwind romance 8 years ago when they were both very young, which unfortunately ended in heartbreak. But when Avery is unexpectedly to a man, one she knows will never hurt her heart mostly because she doesn't love him, she must go back to the small beach town that changed her life forever to tie up loose ends. For Jasper, his love for Avery has never died...it's like a ghost. So when Avery barrels back into his life, will he be able to right the wrongs of the past, or will it all end in heartbreak yet again?

Dani's Thoughts: Well well well... this was just the perfect way to end this series. I will really miss this friend group because they were the epitome of found family, and it makes me want to have a group of women just like this. I loved Jasper and Avery's love story because it was real and raw and the second chance aspect was beautiful to watch unfold. The flashbacks were so pivotal in this story and helped to unfold not only their love for each other but also their backstories. Avery and Jasper had so much to overcome to be back in each other's lives... but I am sure glad they figured it out. There were so many moments that had me kicking my feet with a huge smile on my face. Ahhh it was just a beautiful story!!

If you love Sweet Home Alabama, this story would be one for you. When I finished I realized why I loved this book so much because it was so similar to one of my favorite movies!! This is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone (but really, you should just pick up this series!!)

I want to be so obsessed with this last book in the series but it’s so hard to say goodbye to this girl’s friend group. I have fallen in love with these 4 ladies and their men and I don’t want to leave this series.

This last book follows Avery. Avery has been the badass woman who is super independent and is down for a hookup but nothing serious. That is how she found Dave. The dentist. 😂 He kept his distance, took her on nice dates and finished the job. Nothing serious. Until he proposes. She says yes because she knows she’s not in love with him so he would never break her. To marry Dave she has to go to the past and visit the small beach town, she was raised for a few months before college, and get her husband to sign divorce papers.

Jasper is the town’s young mayor but before he became the mayor he was a surfer kid who loved to surf, eat tacos and work at his dad’s surf shop. That is how he met Avery back when they wet 18/20. Avery moved in with her Aunt after her parents passed. Avery’s Aunt Helen was shacking up with Jasper’s dad. But that’s not how she met him, she got smacked in the face by his volleyball serve. The second Jasper met Avery, he was hooked.

I loved the story for Jasper and Avery. They were hit with a lot of challenges personally and as a couple. They ended up apart for 8 years but really their hearts were only fo

Jasper & Avery were the perfect ending to the series!

I'm so sad to see this series come to an end but what a perfect way to end the Tangerine Sky series. I've fallen in love with this found family and girl tribe as they found their forever's. I can say with certainty that this series will be a reread for me.

Jasper and Avery were young and in love and spent a magical but heartbreaking summer together before tragedy broke them apart. Jasper's struggles with depression were written with so much depth and care that it made my heart break for him. His struggles cost him the love of his life and, even though he kept going, he was never the same without Avery.

When Avery returns 8 years later to finally close the book on that chapter of her life she had no idea that those old feelings and comfort in Jasper would come back with a vengeance and change her life forever. They may have been young and reckless all those years ago, but their love was true.

"First love deserves a second chance" and neither of them were willing to walk away from the connection they shared. Avery & Jasper were so electric together I could feel the sparks through my iPad. They had a soul deep connection that stood the test of time and distance.

The then and now chapters were written perfectly to give you their backstory and how they got to where they are now. I absolutely loved their ending and would love to see more of them (and the other couples) in the future.

I'm excited for what M.J. Huxley has in store for us next!

Memories by the Shore - MJ Huxley

5/5⭐️

📚📚📚
Omg be ready for the tears with this one! MJ Huxley had me sobbing sad tears and happy ones with this book! Avery and Jasper stole my heart instantly. I loved going from then to now timelines but wow that got me emotional with their teen years. Avery and Jasper fall in love one summer at 18 and let’s just say their life changes a whole lot very quickly in lots of different directions. Everyone ends with shattered hearts and no real closure. Well Avery is backs year later because she needs something from Jasper but the memories she reopens will end up changing everything again. But it’s exactly how it’s suppose to be. Overall I absolutely loveddd this one and highly recommend!

ARC Review of Memories By The Shore by M. J. Huxley🏄🏻🌊💍🥥🌴✈️💘

What a perfect way to end this series! This book is so much more than a small-town beach romance—it’s deep, emotional, and beautifully written.

I loved how it tackled men’s mental health, something we don’t see enough in romance. Jasper’s journey, especially through depression, felt so raw and real. His best friends? Absolute MVPs. The way they showed up for him was everything.

Avery and Jasper’s love story had me hooked. Young, all-consuming love, torn apart by tragedy—only to get a second chance years later. Their chemistry? Insane. And that girl gang? Pure magic.

This second-chance romance gave me everything—emotion, growth, and swoon-worthy moments. I laughed, I cried, and I never wanted it to end. Can’t wait to see what MJ does next!🩵

Sweet Home Alabama meets The Notebook! I truly loved this book, it's my favorite in the series, and I already miss reading about Avery and Jasper!

Told in duel POV and duel timeline, you see how Avery and Jasper met, fell in love, and their lives were forever changed after only 1 summer.

Avery has accepted that romantic love is not important, she has her friends and a guy she sometimes hooks up with, that's all she needs. When she is forced to go back to the beach town she spent one crazy summer in, she knows it wont be easy, but she's older and emotionally stronger now, she'll do what needs to be done, and leave. That's a great idea until she actually has to see Jasper again and suddenly she can't outrun her memories and feelings from that summer anymore.

Jasper has grown up a lot since that summer, he is no longer the 19yr old surfer struggling to balance life and his love for Avery. He still thinks of her every summer, but he was not expecting her to walk back into his life after 8yrs. Now that she's here tho, he isn't willing to make it easy for her, or let her leave without a fight.

Their matching tattoos aren't the only way these two will forever be connected!

Wow, this book was better than I expected in everyday I love, and I am keen to read the other three in this series. This has been my first book I have read by this author, and I have immediately fallen in loved with her writing, and these two characters have found a place in my heart.

Avery, after the death of her parents, moved in with her Aunt at Coconut Grove for what would be three months, prior to college. She never expected to find a love, a soulmate named Jasper. Jasper worked with his Dad in the surf shop, a business he would take over someday. But Jasper found himself battling the black dog of depression, that would seem him shut down emotionally, mentally and physically for days, and how this was woven into their story was beautiful, as much as it was gut wrenching.

This book is written in the now and then, so we see Avery and Jasper 8 years later, after Avery returns, as she has some unfinished business to take care of. She has a proposal from a perfect man she doesn't love, but he can provide security, and give her the space she needs, surely that is enough? But the reasons she left Coconut Grove, and the boy/man she left behind, won't let her go, and after seeing him again, all those memories come flooding back. It is also, long overdue to have those tough conversations about what happened that saw her leave and him stay. And it broke my heart, and I could feel the pain in every word, such a beautiful story I literally binged it in one sitting. Second chance for soulmates who met and fell in love as teenager/young adult, and you have the hallmark of an amazing book. I now want to read the series. Loved this.

My favorite in the Tangerine Sky series, this is full of the most delicious chemistry, summer love, beachy vibes, and the one that got away and it is amazing! It has a definite nostalgic vibe as you get to relive every moment of the summer Avery and Jasper fell in love, had their hearts break, and watched everything fall apart and reliving it alongside the now and the interesting situation they find themselves in makes every interaction deep, a little painful, and just confirms that eight years made no difference, there isn’t an ounce of love lost between them.
This is definitely facing your past head on, reliving every painful moment and every gorgeous second, and it’s written beautifully as it jumps between the present and the past. The mistakes they both made are obvious, as is the fact that they were young, the events they went through not just between them but that whole summer were heavy, and they made a lasting impact, affecting how they chose to move on and the parts they chose to cling to. Their reconnect is sweet, sexy, and every single thing you love about a one that got away romance and it is just a killer read.

This is the fourth book in the Tangerine Sky series and the first one of the series that I have read. I really loved the beachy, small-town vibes of this book. It felt like I was on my own little vacation/mental getaway while reading.

Avery and Jasper’s young summer love was so pure and cute. It was so easy to see how in love they were compared to where Avery was at the beginning of the book. When they come back together, there is no denying that their love for each other never left, even after the difficult and horrible circumstances that caused them to part ways.
As the story progressed, I found myself rooting for Avery and Jasper to rekindle their relationship! It was so apparent that they are what each other needed in life! I was happy to see that in the end, they did fight for each other and work through their past.

I also loved Avery’s aunt Helen. She was the secondary character that I couldn’t get enough of! The way she showed Avery love and support after a childhood of indifference was heartwarming. Even when Avery came back from Arizona, she knew that Helen was always there for her and would welcome her home with open arms.

Dual Timeline
Second Chance
Beach Vibes
Mental Health Rep (Depression)
Surprise Pregnancy

⚡️Review:
I really enjoyed the personalities of Jasper and Avery overall. This is a sweet second chance romance and it's satisfying in that we gets the leads coming back together. The issue of depression has some tenderness and I felt for Jasper so very much in his struggles.

The actual logistics of how they let things fall apart and how they stay apart like they did, only to then fall right back in bed very quickly seemed a bit stretched to believe though. The flashbacks show definitely a dark event that taints the marriage and new life they thought they'd have. Then the present timeline, I just feel they would've communicated the particulars of those events sooner and BEFORE they started having such flirty convos...and the physical relationship.

So in all, still an enjoyable read but I couldn't quite buy into the rushed reunion and the "split" feeling from the light and heavier moments. I liked the mental health rep for the mmc a lot though.

“First love deserves a second chance.”

This book!! Completely obsessed with Jasper and Avery. Their story is an emotional roller coaster of young love, heartbreak, and the possibility of second chance. There is a little bit of everything I love in a romance book: small coastal town, surfer vibes, summer, first love, he falls first. Avery and Jasper met one summer when she was eighteen. They soon start spending every moment together until her time to go to college. Both are dealing with troubled past in very different ways and find comfort in one another in the healing process. The mental health aspect of this story was really raw and real. It’s a story that will pull at your heartstrings and make you fall in love with these two. This is book four in a series but can be read as a standalone. Each book follows a different flight attendant and their story of finding love. I have just loved watching these girls' friendship throughout the books and falling in love– the best found family!

If you loved the movie Sweet Home Alabama this has those vibes but make it coastal!

Sweet and spicy 2nd chance romance

Memories By The Shore is Cute and sweet 2nd chance romance with plenty of spice and some angst, dual 1st person POV and flashbacks, and an HEA. Set in the Tangerine Skies world, this one follows Jasper and Avery, who had a hot summer as young adults and reunite 8 years later when Avery shows up in Jasper’s life after she drops a bomb on her friends that she has hidden for 8 years, and keeps from her current fiance! Lots of unfinished business, if YKWIM. Their journey may have some triggering situations, so check them and yours. The small town is so quaint and appealing, I’d like to live there or at least visit. There are some hilarious scenes with Avery’s besties we’ve met in previous books. Avery is a bit of a pain, I wanted to throat-punch her a few times, but Jasper is pretty cinnamon-roll amazing, with his own struggles. Decent side characters, like aunt Helen and Jasper’s bestie, as well as Avery’s friends from books 1-3, add to the enjoyment.

My favorite quote was “I was born into a life where I was at no fault of my own. I deserve a life of love and trust. I don’t know what the future holds, but what I do know is that it has Jasper in it. There is no world without him. I don’t exist in any universe without the boy who taught me what unconditional love is, a boy who only wanted the best for me, a boy who stole my heart and refused to give it back. A boy who became a man which I desperately want to call my own forever.”

Avery and Jasper’s story was beyond what I expected. This brought so many emotions on their life story. It wasn’t perfect and both needed some growth which they did get as the years passed by.

Their story shows how it went from the beginning to the end. The way the story is being told and how it takes you back to the beginning brought a lot of clarity and it was nice go read.

One thing that can cut through anything is the way Jasper mental health was. It can feel real and you can read the pain as you read on. To me this was something that even with depression, he always managed to show a sense of life.

I truly enjoyed reading this book.

I’m so excited and thankful to M.J. Huxley for giving me the chance to read an ARC of their new release! Just a heads-up, my review is all my own honest, personal opinion.

I am a sucker for second chance romance and this book filled my cup! Avery and Jasper come together in an interesting way after a difficult event in Avery's life. The attraction is immediate and they can't seem to get enough of each other. Their love is innocent and pure and all-encompassing. At times they worry it's too good to be true and at other times is seems there's a huge wall between them.

The side characters are fun, caring, and supportive throughout. I love the way their immaturity is expressed when they're young adults. And then we get to see how they've grown as adults. And of course I loved seeing Avery's girl gang from the previous books again!

Young love with all the surf and beach feels. At just 18, Avery falls madly in love with a local boy Jasper after she moved in with her Aunt. They are married that summer until tragedy hits and Avery leaves. Jasper is inconsolable and never got over his first love. 8 years later, Avery returns to seek a divorce but Jasper seizes his second chance to win her back.
A story full of emotions, Jasper really pulled at my heart strings. Loved Avery’s girl gang for her support but I did favour the boys this time. Jasper’s best friends were a hit for me, so supportive of the young couple and of Jasper through his hard times, true friendships. A joy to read.

I voluntarily reviewed a free advance copy of this book provided by the author. The opinions expressed are my own

First I want to say congrats to MJ Huxley for completing her first series! It has been a privilege to see your growth in your writing. Thank you for creating these stories that are raw and relatable, making a wonder girl group, and making swoon worthy men.

If you like the movies Sweet Home Alabama and the Notebook, you will enjoy this book. I felt some related topics throughout the book. With the Notebook... he builds and decorate the house they planned together when they were young! and Sweet Home Alabama.. well she is married and goes back to visit him to get a divorced so she can marry the guy she is engaged to, and there is a scene where they are in a bar and someone says "look at the size of that thing"... talking about her engagement ring. i laughed out loud cause I could hear the actor from the movies voice making that line. This book had me in my feels, and proves that sometimes people are the one and the love of your life, but it might not be the right time to be together. Reminder that its okay to chase your dreams and put yourself first, and if it is meant to be you will find a way back to each other.

I fell in love with M.J. Huxley, after discovering her book Love Beyond the Illusion and have been hooked ever since.
Her books just captivate you on such an emotional level.
As soon as this book hit my Kindle, I dive right in and finished it within hours.
I felt so many emotions while reading this story. Moments of laughter, love, and sadness.
My heart absolute broke for the pain Jasper and Avery and Jasper endured at such a young age, but I loved seeing them grow and overcome these issues once more.
It was bittersweet seeing such a wonderful series come to an end.
M.J. Huxley is such an amazing author and I've loved seeing her create these amazing characters.
I can't recommend this series enough, and I can't wait to see what comes next from this author.

Avery is newly engaged but there are unresolved matters which she needs to handle back in the small town of Coconut Grove. She heads back after eight years away and the trip brings back memories of the wonderful summer where she met Jasper.

Honestly, it was not an easy book to read as heavy topics are discussed here and unfortunately, I could not truly empathise with both Avery and Jasper. Despite their unresolved issues, it felt like the sexual attraction between them was sufficient to bring them back together.

I wished that they had deeper conversations which would have made the reconciliation more believable. And it would have made the resolution of how two scared, lonely souls can come together to form a lovely unit much more realistic.

I was so thankful to read this book early and I was in love with all of the characters. I was so excited to get to see Averys story from the first time I met her in the last book. Avery had gone through so much heart break during the summer she was in Coconut Grove and so much after. I was going through all of the emotions when I was reading both sides of what Avery and Jasper were going through at the same time. This book made me laugh and get bleary eyed and want to have tacos all the time.
I also understand the other view points and I loved that M.J. included different tropes and plot lines throughout the book which kept me hooked every chapter

“First love always deserves a second chance.”

This was a sweet second chance romance!

I loved the small town beach setting and that it was dual POV! I also enjoyed the alternating timelines from past and present and liked the chemistry and banter between the two main characters.

I love the strong female friendship group that we have grown to know and love over this series. I also liked the other supporting characters specific to this one (Avery’s aunt, Jasper’s dad and Jasper’s best friends).

It was the last book in an interconnected series, but can be read as a stand-alone.

This is my first romance read and ARC. I truly think it was a beautiful story. I love there was a lot of details between the two main characters. My heart was so broken for them and then all put back together. I really liked her writing style. it kept me engaged. The only odd feeling was them being so young in a sexual tension. It just felt odd to me maybe because I read books of much older age, but I definitely will read another book that she writes. That's the only reason why I took one star away but everything else is five stars.
