Lose yourself in this twisty Tudor mystery! For fans of S J Parris, Andrew Taylor, S W Perry and Andrew Swanston.

Is Anne Boleyn haunting her royal daughter…?

1561

Every summer, Queen Elizabeth takes a journey around her kingdom. It is a time of revels and celebration, full of pleasure and extravagance.

But in July 1561, the trip begins badly when the corpse of an unknown man is left in her path.

The nervous queen asks Catrin Surovell, her trusted favourite lady-in-waiting, to find out who is trying to sabotage her journey.

But Catrin soon discovers that the queen’s nervousness stems from something greater than the mysterious death.

Someone has been leaving reminders of the queen’s mother, Anne Boleyn, in strange places. A woman appears in the distance who looks like her; the scent of Anne’s perfume is left in the queen’s chamber, and Anne’s favourite French ballads are sung by a disembodied voice as the queen is travelling.

Worst of all, Anne Boleyn’s famous gold necklace with teardrop pearls hanging from a letter ‘B’ is taken from the queen’s bedchamber. The queen is devastated by the loss, for the necklace was one of very few mementos she had of her mother.

The queen begins to suspect one of her courtiers, so Catrin visits his home to conduct a secret investigation into his actions. And that’s when she discovers this is the most difficult mystery she has ever had to solve.

Is Queen Elizabeth being haunted by her ill-fated mother? Or is someone trying to drive her insane?

And can Catrin find the connection between the missing jewels and the unknown corpse…?

A GLITTERING PERIL is the third book in the Catrin Surovell Tudor Mystery Series. It is an exciting historical thriller set at the court of Elizabeth I.

Angela Ranson writes when she can and works as an administrator when she must. In 2014, she earned a doctorate in the history of sixteenth-century England from the University of York, so she enjoys researching history as much as writing about it.

Her novels attempt to recreate the atmosphere of Tudor England, exploring fresh themes and ideas by finding fictional solutions to real-life crimes and mysteries. Her non-fiction work blends lively storytelling with interesting facts, although sometimes the stories take priority.

She enjoys collecting ghost figurines, figuring out literary puzzles, and working with the amazing volunteers at the York Literature Festival

I've been looking forward to the release of this latest book in the series and it did NOT disappoint! The setting is one of Queen Elizabeth's famed summer progresses with a plot as complicated as moving the royal court en masse from estate to estate. All your favorite characters are back and Catrin is as deadly as ever with her trusty stiletto. Historical references and people blend seamlessly with the fictional characters, the mark of a well-written historical novel. If you are a fan of Tudor history and enjoy a twisty mystery, you'll love this series.

A Glittering Peril is the third novel in the Catrin Surovell Tudor mysteries, and it is possibly the best one yet.

The intrigue, and trying to work out how the two unfolding mysteries are linked, will keep you engaged right to the end. Even if that ending will require more than a little suspension of disbelief.

Overall, I've quite enjoyed the series, and look forward to seeing what comes next.

A little too twisty

While I have enjoyed all the books in this series thus far, I found this one too a bit TOO twisty. There were far too many characters to try and keep up with and way too much going on. Many of the characters to keep track of weren't even living anymore (in the novel) and they added a lot of confusion. While I did understand what was going on in the end, like I said, it was just too much.
