Build-A-Pack #2

Finding Home

Rate this book
Rian Flynn is an over two hundred year old vampire. He’s seen, and done, it all.

In an effort to put his experience and wealth to good use, he’s spent the past few decades committed to philanthropic endeavors. There are always people willing to part with their riches for a good cause if the person asking is charming enough. But lately, having to always be on is taking its toll. What used to be easy is now inducing panic attacks, driving Rian to seek solace from his best friend, Brodie.

When Brodie moves across the country to be there for his fledgling pack, it’s a given that Rian will follow. It turns out that being the sole vampire in a pack of werewolves and humans isn’t so difficult. The McRae pack is small but incredibly loving and Rian thrives in their old Victorian home.

Until a complication in the form of a man from Rian’s past who doesn’t recognize him, walks through the door.

Holden Drumm was a human police officer until a domestic call went wrong and he was gravely injured in the line of duty. Now he’s a werewolf without a pack.

He’s found a place in Luxton, PA, where the residents have embraced him as a deputy sheriff. Being a solitary wolf has served him well, even if he’s isolated himself a bit too much. The McRae pack came as a surprise, one he wasn’t sure he wanted. Becoming the beta enforcer for Alpha Brodie McRae is one thing, accepting the unconditional love of the pack is something else altogether. And there’s the vampire who is clearly hiding something.

When Rian comes clean, Holden’s carefully crafted world is rocked off its axis. A love for a man long gone ties them together in a way no one else can understand. The attraction blooming between them is unexpected, moving faster than they anticipate. But the ragged edges of their puzzle pieces fit together, if they can just figure out how to smooth them out. With the pack’s love and acceptance surrounding them, Rian and Holden just might have a chance at finding home.

Name of god, why did i finish this?

Either you can just go with it in this book, or you just can't. I read it with much exasperation. Everyone was just...so....tactile. Including the vampire.

This was a continuation of the first book, Reclaiming Home, as it had pretty much the same cast of characters, although the focus here was primarily on Rian and Holden. I thought this was an interesting and mostly enjoyable story and there wasn’t anybody in the pack that I didn’t like. However, there were a bunch of things that brought the star count down for me. There were far too many editing errors, which seemed to increase the further I got into the book. Some chapter headings were missing the POV name and the title for chapter eleven was missing the p. I came across misspelled words, missing letters and incorrect pronouns. Then there were the story elements. The mystery surrounding Sheriff Gerrell was building throughout the story and then gets wrapped up rather fast in the epilogue. Likewise with the outcome of Luca’s situation. The suspense builds and the story just jumps and we’re left hanging without any of the details. As for the kink relationship between Holden and Rian, to each his own and all that, but for me, it did nothing to add enjoyment to the story.
And one final thought. Friendship and best friends are a major central theme in these stories yet Kye so easily abandoned his best friend Henry, the guy who practically saved him, without a second thought. I was hoping that misdeed from the first book would have been rectified in this one.

Loved it

I enjoyed seeing historical peaks in this book even though they were incredibly sad. I felt that pain. Especially because I know someone from that generation of when the AIDS epidemic was just being discovered. I also really liked the new character Luca. I hope there are more books.

I liked the pack, and appreciated Rian and Holden’s back story. There’s a little drama in the background with Holden’s work, but this is mostly character driven. There’s kink wasn’t as kinky as I expected - which was actually a good thing for me. Over all an okay read.

DNF 44% - I really tried to look past the "Dead Lover's Twin Trope," but I just couldn't. This story was going really good, but every time I tried to like the MCs together, they would bring up the dead brother. I just couldn't do it.

In conclusion, it wasn't for me. 😔
