‘You are the last man in the world I would marry.’

Elizabeth is proud of her ability to judge others; Mr Darcy is proud of his family name. When their social worlds collide, feelings run high.

I have owned a copy of this abridged version since probably fifth grade when I won it in a contest. Being unaware of the plot and the beautiful elements of literary creativity that are prominent in the original version by Jane Austen, I found this to be extremely boring and lacking any depth. However, after subsequently being exposed to various adaptations and versions of this masterpiece, I decided to give it another read.

This abridgement indubitably robs it of the original resplendence. It can be a good read for someone who does not want to trouble themselves with the whole version which is ten times this size. We do not gain any significant insight into the developments of the characters or the plot, though I doubt any non-avid reader would care.

Have they done a good job simplifying it without making it seem too tedious or monotonous? To an extent. It does seem a bit empty. A few characters are omitted just as many of the subplots are. If the whole book was a movie, this is a mere teaser.

I read half of it, back in 2015…. Then I just forgot about it. I borrowed the audiobook from the library and listened to it start to finish! It was much easier to follow along and the narration was stupendous! I enjoyed the story very much and would highly recommend!

Even if it is the abridged version, I'm claiming i have read P&P , a great quick read and a good way to get the low down on the story in a much quicker way than reading the full version.

I think I can SKIP the review of this book.

No?

My all time favorite book. Intelligent woman (Elizabeth Bennett)refuses to take crap from arrogant Mr. Darcy.

Well, what do you know, they fall in love and overcome her lack of property (she's got NO MONEY) and his snootiness (he's loaded). They end of being intellectual equals.

Okay.now I'm not REALLY sure I ACTUALLY read this book. It's just that I've seen the movie w/ Greer Garson and Laurence Oliver about 100 times. It's my early winter (November sleet, cold, cloudy) Sunday "feel good" movie. I love to watch it in bed while the sleet or rain hits the window.

The remake with Keira Knightly is excellent but, I still prefer Greer Garson.

„Stolz und Vorurteil“ retold by Gill Tavner.

The stories in this series begin with an illustrated cast of characters, followed by the “meat” of the novel, and finally a section called “Taking Things Further”. Here is where the series really shines. First you are given “The Real Read”, a paragraph about the original novel, and where to find it. Secondly, a section entitled “Filling in the Blanks”, for as they say in the book.
Perfect books to introduce the younger reader to Jane Austen.
