In his new book, Derwin Gray calls men to live heroic lives by allowing God to reign and rule in their hearts. Gray asserts that men are made to be heroes. Why is it, then, that many men don't live like it? Often, the pressures of staying afloat in a paycheck-to-paycheck existence eclipse any acts of boldness and valor, relegating heroism to action movies and fantasy worlds. Until now. In "Hero," Gray combines teaching points gleaned from his childhood on the wrong side of the tracks to his life now as pastor, spreaker, author, husband, father and friend with the truth of Scripture to inspire men to realize the heroism God intends them to exhibit. Men of all ages will be challenged by Hero, which also recounts Gray's time in the NFL and how that dream ended. "Hero" is great for individual or group study and each chapter ends with an application section focusing on the head, the heart, and the hands, giving men a plan of action for becoming the hero God made them to be.

Gray is the founding and lead Pastor of Transformation Church, a multi-ethnic, multi-generational, mission-shaped community with two campuses in South Carolina (Indian Land and Rock Hill), both just south of Charlotte, North Carolina. After graduating from Brigham Young University, Pastor Derwin played professional football in the NFL for five years with the Indianapolis Colts (1993-1997) and one year with the Carolina Panthers (1998). During that time, he and Vicki began their journey with Christ and experienced God's faithfulness and direction as He moved their hearts to know Him and make Him known. Pastor Derwin and Vicki began an itinerant speaking ministry in 1999-One Heart At A Time Ministries-and Pastor Derwin went on to graduate magna cum laude from Southern Evangelical Seminary with a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree, with a concentration in Apologetics. But following God's call on their lives and their desire to shepherd people towards transforming their world through the mission of Christ, the Lord transitioned Derwin from his primary role of itinerant speaker to being the Lead Pastor of Transformation Church in January of 2010. Coupling his dynamic speaking style with a shepherd's heart, his intense passion for seeing lives and culture transformed is both contagious and inspiring.
In addition to his role at Transformation Church, Pastor Derwin speaks at conferences nationwide and is recognized by many as the "Evangelism Linebacker." He is the author of Hero: Unleashing God's Power in a Man's Heart, published in 2010, and Limitless Life: You Are More Than Your Past When God Holds Your Future, to be released September 3, 2013.

42 incredible entries of pointing the reader to living the life God has designed and created for us. God is the great Hero who creates hero makers (disciples) that can now live on mission with purpose!

Hero: Unleashing God's Power in a Man's Heart, former NFL team captain and founder of One Heart at a Time Ministries, Derwin Gray calls men to live heroic lives by allowing God to rule in their hearts. This book is beneficial for men and women alike.
Men are made by God to be heroes, so why is there a failure in our culture to live like it? Hero is divided up into three sections: The upward journey, the inward journey and the outward journey. Gray shares about his difficult and painful childhood in San Antonio to the excitement of playing for the NFL. Gray has the gift of weaving his testimony with a strong emphasis on scripture to show how we can as every day people can become heroes. This is a practical read for readers of all ages.
As a mother raising three boys, I believe this book was great. Unfortunately society plays down the role of manhood and Derwin Gray does a beautiful job helping readers see what being a man of God looks like.

So far so good. Starts out a little basic but moves to some good meat. I'm about 1/4 the way through.
done now and fee the same throughout. Good book for new believer or down the road a bit looking for some encouragment. He has a unique way of saying some old truths. Enjoyable.
