Little Dead Man

Rate this book
Decades after the zombie apocalypse, seventeen year old Garret Weir just wants to be a normal teenager. As if dealing with the zombies isn't hard enough, his annoying twin brother refuses to leave him in peace. And it's not like Garret can just go to his room and shut the door to get away. His brother Garth is a zombie and conjoined to the top of Garret's spine. Good times.
Forced from his hidden, mountain compound, Garret must learn who to trust and who to fear as he and Garth are thrust into a world more horrific than anything they could imagine. Fighting for their lives in a foreign landscape, the brothers head north to find their father who may have the answer to the deadly virus that caused the zombie apocalypse. Along their way they meet new friends, learn betrayal the hard way, fight for their mother's life, run from deadly enemies, and discover that life may have seemed difficult before, but can always get a whole lot worse.
A fast-paced, high-action novel that doesn't pull any punches, Little Dead Man is a surprisingly sweet story of two brothers - one living, one undead - that struggle with a mother that is mentally unstable, a missing father that has kept too many secrets, and a lie their parents have always told - that they are the last survivors on Earth. When the truth of that lie is revealed, Garret and Garth quickly find out that having other survivors in the world isn't exactly a good thing. In fact, it's quite deadly.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a slightly different take on the zombie genre with loads of action, laugh out loud moments and even some tender, tear-jerking scenes. I was sorry to finish the book and I can't wait for the sequel, which I'm assuming there will be because of the way the story ended.

Best book i have ever read. 10/10
This book is about a seventeen year old boy named Garret going through a zombie apocalypse, he has a brother.....but they're closer than they may seem. His little brother Garth is a Zombie, and he's attached to Garret's spine. Find out all the types of zombies and struggles throughout this apocalypse in this book "Little Dead Man".

I wasn't sure If I should rate this because so many people loved the book, and I felt like it's not really *for me* in the first place. I am not a young adult and would not have selected this for myself, but received it in a mystery box of zombie stuff and the reviews were so good. I picked it up to see what the fuss is all about. I'm still not sure, honestly.

I ultimately decided to go ahead with the rating. It's YA and I'm an OA, so at first I thought maybe I just didn't get it. But then I thought about the Harry Potter series and Roald Dahl, or dozens of other books I've read as an adult and really enjoyed. So, I decided to add my rating. For me this was a 3-star book. I love a good zombie story and this had a few page-turning scenes, but overall I was never really engaged. The zombie twin was a creative premise, but I didn't feel any real affection for the characters. I am glad that others have enjoyed it so much. They may be closer to the target audience than I am. As a grown up who is into thrillers and horror movies/shows/novels, I didn't much care for it. Maybe even 2-1/2 stars, but rounding up, giving the benefit of the doubt from this OA.

This book started out to be a nice little YA story but some twist and turns make this an action packing kind of dark adventure. The story is full of family and commitment and honor and is really entertaining. Too much the dialogue is " I'll tell you later " and that gets a bit tiring but besides that this is a well-written story.

I really enjoyed the story of the book and it did keep me engaged. A fun zombie story that has a new feel to it despite the genre. What I really struggled with was the writing and editing. Maybe it’s because the book is targeted towards a younger audience but I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the dialogue and editing inconsistencies.

I picked this book up at a horror convention mainly because it was free and the idea of a zombie conjoined twin cracked me up. I did not expect to end up devouring it as fast as I could. I did not expect it to be so well written and entertaining, in my experience not many young adult novels are. It's fast paced and easy to read, and just a fun story.

Detailed Review: Don't turn away from reading this review after you've seen the cover. Never ever judge a book by it's cover, haven't you guys heard it before? Though I've done it a couple of times I almost never do that. Unlike my fellow blogger Chloe. It's true! Ask her yourself!

Ok enough of joking. What makes me think this book is so awesome and brilliant. First the action and suspense, it keeps you wanting more. It leaves you with an urge to turn to the next page.

Second, the story. It's completely original. I mean, take a look at the cover as well. I dare you stare at it without  flinching for ten seconds. It's so original that it looks scary. Get what I mean? And to be honest, this is my first zombie book. I've engaged in werewolves, angels, vampires and many others but not zombies. But after reading this, I get this feeling for more. It's just amazing what a book can do to you.

The last reason is that Garrett Weir and Garth have the coolest parents ever! His father is actually a mad scientist who unleashed the virus that destroyed the world and his mother is incredible when it comes to killing necros.  She managed to kill one big nec even when she was hurt. That's totally kick-ass!

In an insane world, Garrett has to face challenges and survive with things he learns from books that he has read for many years. But sometimes books can't help and you have to rely on your survival instincts.

I thought the book was good not just because of the action but how the author has thought to include the love of a family in it. In the end when Garrett's mother became a nec, they still protect each other. I know it sounds impossible but it is really true. His mother doesn't even try to eat him. And don't forget Garth too! He's actually quite adorable.

He ain't heavy, he's my brother...

But besides that, you'll have to read for yourself. I always say that to other people when they want to know more. So I'll say this to you too.

*Warning: Lots of gore and blood in it. Not that I'm discouraging you from reading it. I think you should still read it.

Brief Review: My first zombie book and it already has a huge impact on me. Jake Bible couldn't have written it more detailed or action-packed than any other author. This book is certainly on my 'awesome book' list!

Final Rating: 5/5 'Totally Amazing' (Wish I could give a 6!)

How do you even go about reviewing something as fantastically amazing as Little Dead Man?
I don't even know what to say. I was completely blown away by how good this book is. I thought for sure it would be a campy sort of funny take on the zombie apocalypse. What I got was funny, but it was also probably one of the best zombie books I have ever read. In my entire life!
Seriously this book is disgusting, funny, action packed, dramatic, all while keeping it pretty PG if I may add.
Garret and Garth are absolutely the shining stars of this book. Their dynamic as brothers despite the whole zombie issue is so fun!
Little Dead Man seems to be a book of what ifs? As your reading along it feels like your suddenly slammed with conflict after conflict, but they all make total sense. It's just one fun ride from page one to the last page. I really need to know what happens after the final page. So I am hoping and wishing that Jake Bible will write a sequel!!

Garret Weir has just turned seventeen. That is a big accomplishment because in Garret’s life, the human population of the Earth is gone, changed and turned into flesh hungry zombies, or “necs”, as he calls them. However, he is not the only seventeen year old in the family. He has a undead brother attached to his spine named Garth, and he won’t leave Garret in peace. I guess you could say Garth helped Garret get stronger, because he was out-pacing his dad by the age of 10. Him and his family live on a small compound in the mountains in Oregon, and this is a action packed adventure on how they make their way through life. This book is for ages 12-an above. I found this book very enjoyable, and hard to put down. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a action packed book.

Awesome!

Another Jake Bible story that I could not put down!
Garrett is a fantastic character, along with Garth. Great action, with loads of opponents for this 17year old to face up against. Blood and guts galore, with the possibility of a cure.
The ending gives me hope that there will be another book.

I liked the really interesting twist of conjoined half-alive twins. That was different. And weird. I like weird. I didn't like that all the secrets at the end were obviously half formed (unless a sequel is coming) so nothing was really finished. It was just left hanging.

Typical zombie story but the twist is Garrett has a conjoined twin who died at birth, so he is carrying around a zombie baby on his back.

Over the top as usual for the author. Liked the book, too many editing mistakes (misspelled words mainly, like the novel was auto corrected by an Iphone).

A new take on the zombie apocalypse. I loved the Z-Burbia series, and i felt the same way about Little Dead Man. I wish it was a series though. :(
