A revelatory, scientific approach to turning DOUBT into a decision-making superpower.
Drawing on cutting-edge research from neuroscience, psychology, and moral philosophy, Radical Doubt offers a fresh perspective on decision-making, revealing why traditional approaches often fall short when facing the topic of uncertainty. Dr. Bidhan Parmar—one of the world’s top 40 business-school professors under 40—unveils the scientific principles that prove how doubt, counterintuitively, is our greatest decision-making tool.
Think back to the last difficult decision you had to make at work. Did it leave you anxious, unsure, and filled with doubt? How did you find a solution? And in the end, was your action and conclusion the best answer? Organizational leaders and managers often find themselves in such complex predicaments, where the stakes are high and clear answers are elusive. With Radical Doubt’s comprehensive framework and multi-faceted toolkit, you’ll learn how to tackle complex problems, treat your intuition as a hypothesis, generate multiple scenarios, craft flexible plans, and embrace doubt as a catalyst for growth. Through real-world examples and actionable strategies, leaders will feel empowered to make better decisions, balancing competing interests, using limited resources effectively, and strengthening relationships with stakeholders. This kind of decision-making is often the day's work for a corporate figurehead, and now it’s time to move beyond the quest for the “right answer” and become a master of making “better answers.”
Whether you’re a CEO or a new project manager, Radical Doubt is your guide to navigating moments of uncertainty, transforming doubt from a source of anxiety into your superpower for strategic thinking and effective leadership. With this guide, you’ll harness the power of doubt, unlock your potential, and lead with confidence in a dynamic and uncertain world.
Not sure how to explain this book - it’s not purely a business book, it’s not purely a self help book. Whatever it is, though…if you struggle with making decisions in any aspect of your life and wish to understand how you can overcome that - this book is for you. If you want to make better decisions and suffer from frequent analysis paralysis, this book is for you. If you want to turn your hesitation and self doubt into a superpower instead of a perceived weakness, this book is for you.
If you are a person who makes decisions PERIOD, and truly wants to understand yourself better, this book is for you. It can be applied to any scenario, personal or business.
The author did a great job making this somewhat complex topic easy to think critically about. It encourages self examination that is actually helpful - even if you hate self help-ish books for this reason, it will not be a problem for you here. His use of humor and anecdotes throughout is delightful and entertaining too, making it one of those books that you really don’t want to put down while you’re in it’s “zone”
This is probably one of the best books about any subject I’ve read this year. I can’t recommend it enough.
This is one of the most impactful books I've read. The central concept—how to transform doubt from a stumbling block into a powerful tool for success—is truly transformative. Bidhan Parmar's approach is not only insightful but also incredibly practical. The book is fantastically structured, making it easy to follow his thorough and well-researched arguments. What really sealed the five-star rating for me was the author's voice. The book is full of clever puns and funny references that make it a genuinely enjoyable read without sacrificing any intellectual depth. It's a rare book that can change how you think while also making you smile. Highly recommended!
This book addresses one of the more challenging aspects of running a business or leading people - those tough decisions that have multiple criteria and uncertainty.
This book provides relief in two ways - one is that it offered me practical frameworks for handling a variety of common, but sticky, problems. The other is that it reframed how I interpret the experience of doubt - something I accept as part of the process and an opportunity to learn rather than a signal that I'm incapable or unprepared.
This isn't one of those books that beats a good idea to death for 300 pages. Each chapter made me think, which I appreciated.
An insightful, well-written examination of decision-making and how to think about and more effectively navigate complex situations. With great, colorful examples and a keen sense of humor, Parmar explains the research on how people make decisions in all walks of life – whether at work, at home, on the athletic field, or in social situations. There was so much in this book that I could identify with, and it provided some great advice and strategies.
Radical Doubt is a lovely book to read, but an even better book to reflect on as life comes your way. I was lucky enough to read the book pre-release and am have been able to apply the lessons from the book to various points of uncertainty in my life, both of big and small. I highly recommend Radical Doubt, it's a great read that has something for everyone and is especially helpful for those of us that can find ourselves to be indecisive in our day to day lives.
This is a practical read (with frameworks and real examples) that can be applied to personal and work decision-making. It is also very inspirational - I was motivated to think about how using this stakeholder approach and being okay with uncertainty can help society at large.
