My biggest issue is this book is that it desperately needed an editor. My second biggest issue is that the book doesn’t focus on sexuality as much as the title indicates.

The chapters go into tangents while only briefly touching on a few memories the author shares. I felt like there was a lot more in her life that could’ve added more context and understanding, and what little is given leaves me spectacle.

Despite the implication that the book focuses on sexuality, it’s more obvious to me that the author simply has mental health and self esteem issues rather than “struggles with homosexuality”. Of what is shared, there didn’t seem to be anything inherently bad with her one relationship with a woman. Instead, her actual problems were rooted in people pleasing and lack of confidence. She has a blurb or two saying that gay relationships aren’t good for God, but she doesn’t elaborate on that or explain why she came to that conclusion.

This is one of many books from ‘former lgbt’ authors that seem eager to share their stories but don’t take the time to slow down, step back, and take some actual help from licensed therapists.
I was baffled when the author mentioned she went straight to a Christian counselor instead of any kind of therapist. She doesn’t explain why she makes that particular decision, and considering this all takes place in recent years, I have trouble believing these are all appropriate steps for what she’s going through.

I picked this book up because the author is a childhood friend, and I had no idea about her life’s journey or struggles. I applaud her courage in sharing her story so openly. The book is well written, and while the title suggests a heavy focus on sexuality, I found it to be more about boundaries, how we see our selves with personal growth along the journey of life. There are many takeaways that invite readers to reflect inward, even for someone like me who has stepped away from formal Christianity. Tiffany’s faith is clearly central to who she is, and that foundation shines throughout. An honest, heartfelt read.

Also, big shoutout to the Bible Superstore. Loved that place as a kid!
