PACK RULE #7: PACK SECRETS MUST BE KEPT

I’m supposed to erase her memory, not claim her.

My son’s date knows too much. The most important rule of the pack has been She's seen him shift. The alpha orders me to make her forget, but one hint of her scent and I know the truth—this human is MINE.

Riley’s half my age. She has her whole life in front of her. If I claim her, I lock her into a fate she never even imagined. Besides, she thinks I’m a player–only out for one thing.

I should stay away. Should let her go. But Riley is too sweet, too beautiful, and far too mine.

Now she’s caught between our two worlds—one side thinks we should steer clear of each other. The other wants a forever bond…either way, she’ll suffer the consequences.

She doesn’t understand the bond between us, but I can’t protect her without it. When danger comes for her, she has to trust me to keep her safe—the wolf who was born to be hers.

Age gap, fated mates, wolf shifter, ex’s dad, cowboy romance? This is a combo of tropes I never saw coming but it was a quick, fun, steamy read. While I do wish the FMC was a tad bit older, I enjoyed this one and read it pretty quickly. The dirty talk was making me blush and swoon and if Cody wants to tie me up and have his way with me, you won’t hear any complaints from me.

I’m kicking myself for not starting this series sooner and will have to go back and start reading the rest asap!

Thank you to the author for access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Trope: fated mates
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Exactly what I was looking for! You absolutely know what you're getting when you pick up a Renee Rose/Vanessa Vale shifter book, and these ladies have never let me down. It's a fast-paced, lighter read with a super hot guy completely obsessed with his girl ❤️. The taboo aspect of it being her ex-crushes dad made it that much hotter, lol. I farking love these books and gobble them up as soon as they're released. Perfect after a heavy read or if you're just in the mood for great writing in the form of a light snack :)

3 - 3.5 stars!

Much like the other books in this series, Primal was all growly and mine attitude. I’m not complaining.

“If you don’t hold still, I will throw you down in the grass, and I will eat you. I can smell how turned on you are right now. I know that pussy of yours is wet and ripe for licking.”

Enough said, am I right?

I feel like this is the kind of story you read in-between heavy reads just for the fun of it.
It doesn't really have any depth and it's a bit illogical in many aspects.
For example, it all happens in a matter of a few days and although I can understand fated mates and the insta-"love" (if we can call it that in this situation), this one was a bit too rushed. She was ready to be marked after 2 days because they were sexually compatible... Girl pls. He's 20 years older than you, you doubted him all the time before losing your V card to him and then you're ready to give up all your life for him? A player you've met for a few days?

This entire series is a favorite of mine, featuring swoony, possessive cowboys that are all in for their ladies. Here we have Cody, who happens to be her ex's dad, who finally meets his mate and has one week to help her fall in love with him. This shifter is all in for her from the moment he realizes who she is to him. They face challenges with her family and working through insecurities, but overall this is a low angst romance that packs the spice! It can easily be read as a standalone within the series.

This book was everything I look for in a short book. The pace was perfect and even tho everything that happened between Cody and Riley was in a short amount of time, this story did not feel rushed! Age gap is my favorite trope and this one was *chefs kiss* (21 year gap). The spice started immediately which I also loved! If you love spicy shifter/wolf romances with obsessed mmc’s and a bit of action this book is definitely the one for you.

I totally loved this story.

Cody is ordered to take Riley to have her mind wiped after she saw his son turn into a wolf and kill a mountain lion. Cody takes one look, one sniff, and can’t do it, Riley is his human mate 20 years younger than him.

This is such a great shifter romance, hot and steamy, with Cody holding back his feelings and trying to get Riley to fall in love with him. 🐺 ❤️

This book was funny, but I think it was funny in an unintentional way. Like you can tell the author took it seriously, despite there being almost no plot outside of this dad wolf banging his son’s ex. I gave it a star for the number of times this book made me laugh. Overall though, it was probably one of the worst wolf shifter books I’ve read so far.

Oh boy, oh boy!! I just love when these two authors team up together. You know you are going to get a fantastic story. Cody and Riley are so hot together from the first moment he scents her. He knows she is his mate. He just has to convince this little human of that before his alpha orders him to wipe her memory.

I’m so happy Renee and Vanessa are covering all the smaller characters in Wolf Ranch. I thought it wouldn’t be the same after reading about Boyd, Colton and Rob but they are just as good. To read about Cody was a surprise in itself, especially since we don’t come into contact with him at all until this book. We knew the pack liked to hang out at his bar, but we never really knew about Cody as a person. In fact, when I saw this was Cody’s story I had to think for a second who he was. I couldn’t remember or put my finger on who he was until it clicked and his bar gets mentioned. This was a nice pivot from those who were living on the ranch. I had no idea of the turn this book would go or even how it started so it was nice with the direction this one went. Once you get past the huge age gap between Riley and Cody it’s a very sexually charged book and true to its title for primal. The way it talks about the chase and bringing out his animal was intense and passionate. It’s also less about getting to know each other and more about Cody’s primal urge to mark, possess and consume Riley. It’s a call between doing what is best for the pack verses staying by Riley’s side. He battles with his loyalties to the pack throughout the book and he tries to satisfy both his pack duties and his connection and draw to Riley. While I wish they spent more time building a relationship on personality and finding common ground with each other, to fall in love the traditional way, I do like the direction this book went. It’s been interesting to see how these wolves’ personality and focus changes the minute they scent their mate. They go from being completely engrossed with pack duties and their own personal life, whether that’s accepting they won’t find a mate to the way they go through women. Once that scent hits, they all become completely different wolves, soft, vulnerable and emotional. It felt drastic with Cody but also with others as well. It will be interesting to see how the series continues and to find out Johnny’s book is next is surprising but also intriguing. I would think either Wes or Nash would be next but I’ve come to find out these books could go pretty far with the amount of wolves on the ranch. It makes me wonder how far it will go and if the stories will be recycled or completely different.

PACK RULE #7: PACK SECRETS MUST BE KEPT

It is another great addition to the Wolf Ranch Series, and yet, it is a fresh new story with a few people from previous stories. What happens when a human female and male wolf shifter are out on a picnic and attacked by a mountain lion? The shifter will do what he can to save both of them—but now she has witnessed him shifting and it must be reported to the Alpha.

Tyler McIntire dated one of Riley Abbott’s best friends in high school, but they had an amicable breakup since she left for college. Riley always had the hots for him, so they decided to go on a picnic. One kiss and neither one felt a thing—that’s ok, they’re friends. But what happens when a mountain lion is on them and Tyler shifts to his wolf to protect her? Riley won’t wait around to find out—but Tyler must let his Dad, Cody, know—and in turn, Rob Wolf, the alpha of the pack. Rob instructs Cody he needs to drive her to Marion to have her mind wiped of the incident—only when Cody meets her, she isn’t just someone, she is his fated mate.

“Sorry, sugar. Fate made the decision for both of us. You belong to me now.”

The story was a fun read of how fate is fickle and something that Cody never believed would happen to him. He was content with raising his son, who is now an adult—and in the process, Cody has had plenty of hookups—even most people consider him a man-whore. But when he goes to get Riley, tranquilizes her, and catches her scent, it’s all over. This isn’t just a human who sees something she shouldn’t, this is his fated mate—and he will protect her. But now he has a new situation, he’s disobeyed his Alpha and he asks for one week to claim her.

This was a fun May-December, Human-wolf story. I liked Riley and Cody together, but it won’t be an easy situation. Between her over-protective deputy sheriff father, she is a virgin—and then Cody and her Dad went to high school together. This relationship is on shaky grounds before they even leave the start line—but they will persevere. A life and death situation is an eye-opener for many, both in the human and wolf-shifter worlds. Will they be able to make a home in both worlds and find happiness?

“I will always chase you. Anywhere you run.”

I recently finished reading Primal, the seventh installment in the Wolf Ranch series by Renee Rose and Vanessa Vale, and I have to say, it was quite the ride! This book blends romance, suspense, and supernatural elements in a way that kept me completely engaged from start to finish.

The story centers around Cody, a rebellious werewolf, and Riley, a woman who unexpectedly finds herself entangled in his world after witnessing a pivotal moment in his life. Right from the start, I was drawn into their chemistry. The interactions between Cody and Riley are both steamy and emotionally charged, making it impossible not to root for them. Cody's character is particularly captivating; his "dirty talk" adds an exciting layer that complements Riley’s journey of self-discovery as she explores her desires alongside him.

One thing I appreciated was the fast pacing of the book. It made for a quick read that I found hard to put down. However, I did notice that some parts felt a bit rushed, especially when it came to the development of secondary characters. I found myself wishing for more depth in those areas, as they could have added even more richness to the story.

Despite these minor shortcomings, the plot kept me on my toes with its thrilling twists and turns. The stakes are high with pack dynamics at play, and I loved how Cody navigates the consequences of his actions while trying to protect Riley from the dangers that come with being involved with a shifter.

Overall, Primal is a delightful addition to the Wolf Ranch series that definitely satisfied my craving for a steamy paranormal romance. With its engaging characters and thrilling plot twists, I’d give it a solid 4 stars. If you’re looking for an entertaining read that will keep you captivated, this one is worth picking up!

Riley couldn’t believe she was finally kissing Tyler after having a crush on him for years but even more striking was that the kiss is awful. He’s the hottest guy she’s ever seen, and she’s wanted him for years, so it just doesn’t make sense. Until she meets his dad, Cody. She doesn’t know anything about shifters, but Cody knows he’s met his fated mate in Riley, he just isn’t sure how to make her understand their connection.

The Alpha is breathing down his neck to either claim her or wipe her memory of seeing Tyler shift, but Cody wants to explain everything and give Riley a chance to process. He wants her to know everything and choose him so the Alpha’s deadline of one week is an intimidating prospect. They have a lot of obstacles in their way besides being shifter-human fated mates, like the more than twenty-year age gap and the fact that she thinks he’s a major player.

Riley wants to believe his sweet words but it’s all so crazy. She had a disappointing kiss with her dream guy, almost got eaten by a mountain lion and watched Tyler shift to protect her. Now his dad is melting her panties and she’s so crazy with lust she can’t even think straight in Cody’s presence. Riley had so much thrown at her in a very short time, but she wasn’t intimidated at the prospect of the animal in Cody. In fact, it just turned her on even more. They were meant for each other, and I loved every minute of their story.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Fated mates, shifters, age gaps, plus a side of spice and drama?! And you’ve got yourself a book that will keep you up into the wee morning hours just desperate to know what happens next! Vanessa Vale and Renee Rose have absolutely stunned with this amazing addition to the Wolf Ranch series! Riley is a young, and inexperienced college girl who has pinned after one of her classmates for years, but when it seems like finally the fates have aligned and they get to go on a date… well things are just a little bit lackluster to say the least. That is of course until a mountain lion attacks and Riley’s date shifts into a wolf right in front of her. And being a rational person, who does absolutely appreciate her dates protection, she takes off at a dead sprint to hide away from what can only be described as the craziest date ever. A date Riley is determined to put out of her mind until her dates GORGEOUS, sweet talking, cowboy of a father shows up. Unfortunately Cody is there not for fun or to catch up to bring young Riley to get her memories erased… that is until Cody catches Riley’s scent and then it’s all over because after that Cody knows one thing and one thing only… Riley is his mate and he’ll do anything to keep her. What follows is a topsy turvy adventure and romance filled with hilarious banter, disapproving town folk, a relationship both MCs have to work for, and all the spice and drama one could possibly need! So if all of that sounds like your perfect read then I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Primal and all of the Wolf Ranch books!

HAPPY READING 📖

Cody McIntire (40) & Riley Abbott (19).

An age gap, fated mates, werewolf story.

Riley (19) is having a picnic with Tyler (19). They find out quickly that finding each other physically attractive doesn’t translate to chemistry as a couple. But before Tyler can take Riley home, a mountain lion attacks and Tyler reveals his furry side. Riley freaks & runs after seeing Tyler shift into a wolf.

Tyler finds himself, along with his father Cody, explaining the situation to their alpha Rob Wolf. Only mates & family know about wolves. Their alpha decides Riley’s mind should be wiped of the experience (by a witch?).

Since Riley is already scared of Tyler, Cody goes to pick up Riley in his stead. Cody drugs the girl and scoops her up ready to take her to have her mind wiped, when he catches her scent. His wolf knows, Riley is his fated mate. Not knowing what else to do, Cody ties Riley to the bed, waiting for the drugs to wear off.

Despite the circumstances, the chemistry is immediate. Kisses to both sets of lips have Riley ready to give up her virginity, but Cody wants to wait. He wants to make sure Riley knows that this is more than a one night stand. He wants, needs forever.

Mild on the kinky side. Cody likes to give chase before ravishing his mate. But it’s fun chasing, not scary chasing.

No angst with Tyler. Moderate angst with Riley’s cop father. The expected small town finger wagging about the age gap.

Little third act misunderstanding that inadvertently puts Riley in danger. But her “Daddy” would do anything to keep her safe. (No actual Daddy Dom vibes, that was part of her call for help.)

Solid werewolf, fated mates story.

This is book 7 in the Wolf Ranch series by Renee Rose and Vanessa Vale. I have not read the other books in the series and did not feel like I was missing anything, this definitely can be read standalone.

While out on a date Riley witnesses something she can’t believe even happened 🐺 She’s not sure who she can confide in and goes home to take it all in.

Top members of the pack are informed that a human has seen one of them shift. The pack secret must be kept, the human must be dealt with. Bar owner, player and wolf shifter Cody is tasked with taking Riley to have her memory erased. One problem, he realizes she is his mate!

This is a fast paced, sexy paranormal romance with a protective MMC and a virgin FMC. I’m not usually one to grab a virgin character book but I am open to most reads and this one did not fail me! I wanted to be the object of Cody’s desires and have him in all of his sexy protectiveness! I recent started getting into age gap and again, not my go to but I’m on board for consenting adults and this worked for the storyline and who the characters are/where they are with their lives.

Thank you authors Renee Rose and Vanessa Vale for the opportunity to read your book! I received an EPub and am leaving my review voluntarily.

Primal will be out January 2, 2025, and will keep you reading until you get to the end (I had to know how things would turn out for Riley and Cody!)

ARC REVIEW

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“Don’t run from a wolf. My wolf loves a chase, and you, sugar, just gave him one.”

Wolf Ranch: Primal is unlike anything I’ve read. This was my first cowboy romance and it DID NOT disappoint! It was definitely fast paced and had elements of instalove which is not my favorite, but the fated mates trope definitely helped with that! It’s also such a short, sweet and easy read! I love love love age gaps, OTT possessive MMC and paranormal romances so this was all up my alley!

What starts as a cute picnic date between our FMC and a long time crush turns quickly into a dangerous encounter with a mountain lion. Her date, Tyler, shifts to protect her thus breaking a major pack rule. Feeling scared and confused she runs away.

Enter Cody, Tyler’s dad who is tasked by their alpha to bring Riley to have her memories erased from her discovery of shifters. What Cody doesn’t expect as he meets Riley is that she’s is fated mate!

We go on a journey via dual POV as they both face the internal struggles of the bond, age gap and societal judgment.

If you’re looking for a lighter read or need something to help get you out of a book slump I’d definitely give this a try! This is the 7th book in the series and can be read as a standalone. I read it as such and didn’t feel like I was missing any information. I will definitely be reading the other books in this series!

Thank you Renee and Vanessa for allowing me the opportunity to read this as an ARC!

Primal was a blast to read. Rose and Vale have been building their Wolf Ranch shifter-romance series for a while now, but there are still humans who aren’t aware of the shifters in their midst. So when Tyler and Riley, friends since high school, are attacked by a mountain lion, Tyler’s shift to wolf to defend them means Riley knows much more than she should. She needs to have that memory erased, and when Tyler’s dad Cody is sent to take Riley to have that done, it’s more than a little inconvenient for him to find out that she’s his fated mate.

Rose and Vale have a lot of fun with the conventions they’ve built up over this series. Humans can’t know about wolves—but Cody can’t harm his fated mate or he’ll potentially hurt her memory and her connection to him. Humans can’t keep shifters secret—until Riley does this with aplomb. There are more surprises along that vein throughout Primal, especially with the ties that have been created between the titular ranch and its surrounding community.

And this book is marvelously steamy. There’s a sense of the forbidden in the age gap between Cody and Riley (though mercifully the connection to Tyler is kept to a minimum). And the book title is apt, as Cody is a wolf shifter who likes a bit of primal play.

This series is a well-oiled machine at this point, driven by two writers who are completely comfortable with their craft. I breezed through this book and had a blast doing so.

Riley thought she would feel something when she kissed Tyler, the boy she’s been crushing on for years, but instead it’s awkward and uninspired. Just when they are about to end their date, she learns Tyler’s secret . . . and her fate is sealed.

Cody is supposed to be cleaning up after Tyler’s mistake by making sure Riley’s memory of what she learned is wiped, but as soon as he get close, he knows there is an even bigger problem . . . she is his mate, and she is the same age as his son!

Now Cody needs to make sure that Riley keeps the secret and that she falls in love with him, and it won’t be easy since he’s known as a player and has a son her age and Riley’s daddy is a sheriff who is very protective of his daughter.

It was really fun to be back on Wolf Ranch! This age gap was a whole lot of fun because Riley always felt older and more mature than her age so that the age gap between her and Cody didn’t feel like too much. Riley was sassy with an independent streak a mile wide! She more than gives Cody a run for his money, and it’s great! She is also inexperienced and vulnerable, which adds some depth to their storyline, as Cody has to work to prove he is for real in his feelings for her. And, he does!

This book was fast paced and very sexy! Cody is a dirty talker and Riley finds she has desires that match up well with his making this a NSFW read! It’s a fun romance with a few surprises that readers will adore! 4 stars.

ARC REVIEW
*I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review*

This was a fun quick read.

When riley learns that the guys she's on a date with is a shifter she does what any rational person does and runs. But she's confused when the towns playboy and her dates dad shows up at her door wanting to talk.
Cody was supposed to take Riley to have her mind wiped of what she saw. But that's proven difficult when he discovers she's his fated mate. Torn with following Alphas orders and following fate Cody's task is now a bigger challenge to complete.
This is the 7th book in the Wolf r Ranch series but a complete standalone. I haven't read the first 6 books but I can definitely get with the vibe this series puts out. Hearing about the other couples in this story made me want to read the other books.
I had fun reading this, seeing how Cody tried just about everything under the sun to get riley to understand her new situation. It was funny watching a grown man stumble over himself to make his mate happy. The support system he has was amazing like the amount of shifters that pretty much stood by his side and offered advice was sweet. I loved that although Riley was 19 and still experiencing what she wanted to do in life she still stood for what she wanted even if it was what society would deem inappropriate.
Definitely need to go read this entire series now.

Riley thought Tyler was the one but one kiss and ugh nope. It felt more like a brother then a boyfriend. Problem though, when a mountain lion shows up on their date. When Tyler shifts to protect her, Riley is shocked even worst, she ran. The alpha wants her mind wiped and sends Tyler’s dad Cody to do it. When he gets one whiff of her, he knows. She is his fated mate. Things start to unravel from there.

It was funny. Cody made a bad move with sedating her. Then with the pull, he seduced her. But I have to say he never really pushed her. He knew how he felt but he wanted Riley to feel it too. He took his time. Yes, the main issue was he was known as the player in the town and there was a 20 year gap between them. Yep, that can be a big issue. But thank goodness he is a shifter. They understand the age gap. It is the rep that he has that is hard to shake. It takes a lot of trust with Cody for Riley to believe him. She has to let it all fall away. Gossip is always a big pain. And Nana is the best. She is so supportive. The story was hot and funny. There are moments you want to have Riley talk with the other human mates or even Tyler. Cody had so much to prove to her.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A nineteen-year-old virgin stole my heart. Claimed my soul. I hadn't known it, but I'd been waiting for her. My whole damn life.

4.5 stars

I loved being back at Wolf Ranch as we got to fall in love with another dirty-talking cowboy shifter and his fated mate. The realistic courtship between Cody and Riley was swoony yet imperfect. Even though they met under less-than-perfect circumstances, both Cody and Riley continued to choose each other and the bond they couldn't deny. Riley was a great heroine, and I loved her authentic personality and vulnerability towards a seemingly impossible future with Cody. Meanwhile, I loved Cody's patience and devotion towards his mate; he wasn't perfect either, but his love for his mate was completely infallible. It was amazing seeing my favorite shifters and their happy mates from previous books, and I cannot wait for more in this series 🖤

Tropes: fated mates, age-gap romance, obsessed hero, innocent heroine, forbidden love, secret relationship, kidnapped/captive heroine, dirty-talking cowboy, mating frenzy, opposites attract, found family, STEAMY🔥

What started with: Hey, the hot guy I had a crush in high school is finally kissing me, turned out to be: Oh shit, his even hotter father is claiming me as his mate! And they both are wolf shifters.
While Riley is trying to figure out what exactly that means, Cody is trying to give her space and time, even if it means to keep his … well…in his pants.
I loved the banter between Riley and Cody, the story had a good amount of spice, it was entertaining as hell and had a well written storyline. What started with me saying I will just read the first fifty pages and read the rest tomorrow turned in a two-hour session in which I could not stop reading this book.
You can read this story as a standalone without having to read the previous ones in the series.
A lot of people find half naked men on book covers to be cringy or not up to date, but I thought that It fitted perfectly with this story, and it has a beautiful color palette.

If you are on the search for a shifter romance with spice and suspense, then search no further dear reader, you have found it. I would definitively recommend this book and can say that it won’t be the last book that I read from the wolf shifter series.
