Veilfall #2

Spark of Deceit

Rate this book
Ara survived terrorists and crushing heartbreak, but the war for Veilfall has only just begun.

The Flame Keepers have unleashed a devastating anti-magic weapon. A new lord mayor has taken the city. Tensions between Mortals and Immortals have never been higher, but this time, Ara’s alter ego—the vigilante known as Sparklegirl—might not be enough to save Veilfall.

Nor is it enough to get her soulbound off her back.

As Ara fends off political and magical threats, the handsome Immortal Detective Graydon Marr desperately follows her every step. He’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe—and even more to win back her heart.

Sarah J Maas meets Batman in the sequel of this two-book romantasy series.

This dual-POV, enemies-to-lovers novel is packed with romantic tension, relentless pacing, political intrigue, unique world-building, and irresistible characters. This series is perfect for fans of Crescent City, Throne of Glass, The Hidden Legacy Series, Divine Rivals, and The Mortal Instruments.

After writing an amazing first book that left us on the most devastating and, dare I say, CRUEL cliffhanger (you did us so so dirty there 😭), Annika Snow concluded this duology with yet another gripping, heart wrenching, action packed and hilarious book !

Writing a sequel is always hard, but writing a sequel to a book that was already a masterpiece is even harder…
So let me put your mind at ease and tell you : if you loved the first book, this one will leave you gobsmacked!!! 🤯

I have laughed, I have cried, I have held my breath, over and over and over again throughout the entirety of the book!!
The amount of UTTERLY UNEXPECTED plot-twists, the complexity of the storyline, the character and relationship developments, the gut wrenching revelations, the scrumptious tension and finally the ridiculously hilarious and witty banter, left my heart, soul & imagination so thoroughly sated 🥹❤️‍🔥

There is so much more I would like to say but I can’t without the risk of spoiling you. And with how good this book is, I would much rather let you soak it in on your own, and get the full experience ✨

While I’m incredibly sad that I won’t get to read anything more about Graydon & Ara, Mel & Brynn, and even insufferable Ed & Taran, I am so glad I got to enjoy their stories & discover Annika’s wonderful writing and universe, & I genuinely can not wait for what comes next !

Thank you so much to Annika for having given me the opportunity to be an ARC reader ❤️‍🔥 I had the best time ever both discovering Spark of Pursuit, and now Spark of Deceit 🥹 this series will live in my mind rent free forever !

I always approach sequels tentatively, especially if the first book was an absolute banger. The disappointment of a poorly written sequel is always more devastating than a badly written first book - so yeah.

LUCKY FOR ME THIS WAS AN ABSOLUTE BANGER TOO!!

First of all, thank you Annika for the arc. I’ve been chomping at the bit for this one, and it delivered, and MORE.

The wisecracking banter and effortless humour returns in this sequel, and I found myself cackling out loud more than a few times as Ara and Grayson navigate their hate to love it soulbond amidst terrible communication skills and some abandonment issues. Classic.

Soulmate shenanigans aside, the action in this one is ramped up tenfold with the terrorist organisation introduced in Spark of Pursuit gaining momentum and a few sinister, powerful allies. The tension and conflict between the multiple parties is written really well, their motivations clear (some were downright evil, but ,,, like,,, it was clear 😅) and the bad guys were were truly evil but not in a comically caricature way so that’s always fun.

Ara, much like in the first book is a great main character. She doesn’t suffer fools, very capable and confident in her abilities and yet is open to being vulnerable and honest when the time calls for it. Graydon at the start is a Hot Mess™️ , in a lovely reverse trope of the female character being the hopeless romantic. He wallows and broods and pines because of some of his own mistakes (see above: terrible communication skills) and then ends up being the all round best all round unicorn fleece pants wearing Supportive Soulbound.

Ugh I loved it.

The plot itself was well-paced, hitting the right beats at what I thought was the perfect time, and never really wasting time on mundane filler type exposition. The story doesn’t treat you like an idiot, where everything is spelled out for you, which I thoroughly appreciate.

The story mainly revolves around the age old oppressor/oppressed conflict, and in this case both sides are really just so **Extra** about everything which makes the fighting on either side so very dramatic. It’s all written so well though, which is something that I feel is really hard to pull off when tackling this sort of subject matter - so hey kudos for doing a brilliant job with this!!

I would have maybe enjoyed a bit more character development of some of the side characters (Taran and Ed, my boys, maybe you two should get a standalone bro cop novel???) but that said, what we did get was pretty great.

Don’t want to spoil too much, but really if you’re after a wild, action packed, ride with a sprinkling of quite chaotic, borderline insane ‘I would die for them’ romance vibes - this is the one for you.

I’ve never been so glad to have stumbled upon Annika’s work - and will keep picking them up for as long as she keeps writing.

Side note: absolutely cackled when i read that all you had to do to defeat a frost bear is boop it on the nose. So cute!!

I think I enjoyed the first book of this duology a little more. I loved Ara and Graydon's tension in the first book, but because Ara's secret is "out," the tension was just not the same in the second book. Also, the names of the heroes and villains ("Sparklegirl" and "Trench Coat Guy") were cringey to me. Not sure if it was intended to be funny or not, but having those objectively silly names in an otherwise serious book with very serious fight scenes and very serious stakes pulled me from my experience. But overall, still an enjoyable read and a solid follow up to a fantastic first book. I am a sucker for the soulmate trope, and I also liked the general vibe of the setting. Veilfall is very Gotham-eqsue.

Book two of the "heiress who explodes things by night" series didn't hit quite like the first. Could be sequel slump, could be that I read them back-to-back, could be that I expected the frost bears to be cuter.

The plot follows a strict formula: Sparklegirl decides to sacrifice herself, Graydon gets mad about it, she gets mad that he's mad, she sacrifices herself anyway, almost dies, and then—surprise!—Graydon swoops in to save her. Rinse and repeat every few chapters like a procedural drama.

"Trench Coat Guy" and the "Deathmobile" tried to maintain the humor of book one, but when you're dealing with evil mayors and magic supremacists, the silly nicknames felt tonally confused.

Still giving it three stars because I genuinely enjoy these characters and their world of moon pandas and bone-furred bears. Just wish they'd stop having the exact same argument and near-death experience long enough to have a conversation that actually moves their relationship forward.

Where to even begin?? This book was fantastic. What an incredible ending to this unique, fun and action-packed duology. I only wish there were more Ara and Graydon books, but I would settle for more time with the other characters in the Veilfall universe.

Kudos to Anika Snow for some intricate plotting and stakes that felt genuinely so high. GOD I LOVE A TWIST.

My emotions were running hot on this one - the romance was so sweet and done so well, the dialogue had me laughing out loud, the big baddies (yes TWO big ol’ baddies) were so nasty I wanted to tear my hair out. I felt pain and hurt and grief with the characters as they navigated loss and failure.

The best thing about this series is that it feels fresh and unexpected. Ara’s heiress/vigilante felt unique and I loved how polarizing both her identities were in opposite ways. The magic system is quite straightforward - the story focuses on the relationships between people and the political landscape rather than just overly complicated world-building, which is much preferable to me.

Can’t wait to read the next thing she writes!

I’m grateful to have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If I could give more, I would.
Spark of Pursuit quickly became my favorite indie book during the summer of 2024 and I was eagerly waiting for Deceit ever since.
Spark of Deceit is a bad ass second installment with longing, banter, high stakes politics and just the right amount of spice.
You can't tell that this is this Author's first published books, it's so well written. While I'm sad this was only a duology and I wished I could stay in that rich universe forever, I can't wait to see what Annika will do next!

*I was so eager to read it that I did receive an ARC copy, but I also bought the books in physical copies ;) *

I’m going with 4.5/5 stars ⭐️

Spark of Deceit absolutely grabbed me from the very first page and didn’t let go. This book is intense (in the best way). I loved the mix of magic, politics, high-stakes missions, and gut-wrenching emotions.

The world of Veilfall is rich and immersive, and the tension between Immortals and Mortals feels so real, it could easily be a reflection of our own world.

What really pulled me in was the relationship between Graydon and Ara. Their soulbond situation is just so complicated, and their reunion? Oof. It hit hard. There’s so much history and pain between them, but also so much love and longing. I was rooting for them while also yelling at them, which, to me, is a sign of well-written characters.

Graydon is such a solid lead. He’s gritty, stubborn, and totally wrecked in a way that makes you want to wrap him in a blanket. Ara is powerful, sharp, and clearly carrying way too much on her shoulders. I loved seeing her reclaim her voice and power, even when it came at a cost.

The only reason I’m knocking off half a star is because, while the emotional intensity was amazing, it could be a lot at times. There were a few moments where I needed to come up for air. And there are a handful of side characters I wanted a little more from, just a bit more background or depth. That said, this might not be an issue if you’ve read Book 1 (which why read my review of book 2 if you haven’t read book 1?? ).

If you love fantasy with soul-deep bonds, emotional wreckage, political intrigue, and characters who feel so real, this series is for you. I’m already itching for more !

(I was lucky enough to snag an early copy (ARC) of Spark of Deceit and couldn’t wait to dive in. Huge thanks Annika for the chance to read and review it early, it was such a thrill to be back in the world of Veilfall before release day!)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“In darkness or light, in life or … what comes after … you’ll always be mine.”

This sequel was everything and MORE. Such a great end to Ara and Graydon’s story 🥹
When I read that last line I was ECSTATIC 😂

Picking up where things left off in book 1, Spark of Pursuit, Ara and Graydon still are not speaking. Ara can’t figure out if she’s willing to forgive and let things go, or to hold on to who she’s been and walk away. I mean no one ever fought for her before right? What’s different now? Graydon is still dealing with the emotions of being lied to by not only his soulbound but his best friends. Can he let go, forgive and move forward?
Well they don’t really have a lot of time for that, as the Flame Keepers and Enforcers are at each other’s throats. With Veilfall’s innocent citizens in the middle of this fight they know they have to stop them. But there’s one person stronger than they ever imagined standing in their way 👀

I absolutely LOVE this duology!! I love that the world is filled with magical powers and no mention of fae/witches. As much as I LOOOOVE my faeries, it is always refreshing to have magic apart of stories without fae/witches involved.

We got all the banter from the first book and I am so happy for that! I love the back and forth between Ara and Graydon, they are very entertaining 😆
I definitely laughed, and no doubt cried towards the end. But I wouldn’t want anything different. It was a perfect twist, perfect ending, and the BEST last line of a book EVER!

Thank you Annika for this amazing story. I am gonna miss Ara and Graydon so much!
But did I catch some foreshadowing at the end there?? Taran…📖 👀

That feeling you get when you get to the end of a book that is also the end of a series and everything was so perfect that you can’t help but feel sad it’s over.

This is how I felt by the end of Spark of Deceit, the second but also last book in the Veilfall series—a series that I mention often online as one of my new favorite series. I mean, how could I not? This modern Romantasy has the most clever twist on the fated mates trope. One that I shall probably never see the likes of again—that’s how much I love it.

The story follows billionaire heiress/vigilante Aravenna Kalladine and Detective Graydon Marr, who are investigating the same crime. Graydon doesn't know Ara's true identity, and she quickly becomes the police's prime suspect, but the problem is that when the two meet for the first time on the scene of the crime, they discover they're soulbound. Think Sarah J Maas meets Batman!

Spark of Deceit is a perfect sequel that made me feel every emotion in the emotional rainbow. There were moments that made me angry, others that kept me on my toes, others where I was happy and others I swooned. The book had several twists that still have my mind spinning. It was brilliantly done! Had I had more time and energy, this would have been one of those books I would have finished in a few sittings. So so good!

Here are some tropes!
✨ urban romantasy
🔥 slow burn enemies to lovers
🕵️ detective x vigilante
💖 fated mates...but with a twist!
🔍 mystery
📱 magic vs tech
📖 dual POV
⚔️ immortals vs mortals

Thank you to the author for gifting me an e-ARC (though I did get a copy for myself too because I love the series!) Opinions are my own.

I don't know if I can put into words what an amazing duology and story this was - it was just - AH - amazing! First, I'll say that you definitely need to read this in order, as this one picks up after events in the first one.

In this book - everything is just MORE, the stakes are higher, the danger is greater, the romance is steamier lol, we really get to know more about Ara and Graydon, and Ed (who I adore), Taran, Mel and Brynn, and I won't give anything away - but there are moments in this book that will have you gasping and unable to put this book down.

I was really wondering how things were going to work out for everyone - it just seemed impossible at times. The last 30% or so of this book, you just need to block out time to read non stop b/c it's intense and action-packed, and so high stakes for everyone - my goodness!

I absolutely love Annika's writing, and in this one I loved just the little one line moments of humor in a tense situation, or the sass and snark from one of the characters, and we absolutely cannot not mention the last line of the whole book lol.

I know this is a duology, but I truly hope she does return to this world. This has been one of the most creative, unique, and original fantasy books I have read in a very long time. The magic system is unique, the world building and political machinations are so well thought out, and you will absolutely fall in love with this group of characters.

Now, give Ed his story, Annika! :D

This book was absolute perfection!! I feel so lucky and honoured to have been able to read the eARC for Spark of Deceit!!!

When I read Spark of Pursuit back in October it was so different to my usual fantasy reads. I’m not usually an urban fantasy fan but the book had me HOOKED!!! I’ve been patiently waiting for Spark of Deceit since then and let me tell you it did not disappoint!!!

The balance of plot and romance in this series is unmatched!!!! The plot was so well paced and kept you in your toes throughout. The plot twist had me gasping like I genuinely cried!!!

Aravenna and Graydon will have my heart forever and ever and ever 💜💜💜 I worried that them getting together might drag but that wasn’t the case at all!!!!! The whole book just flowed so perfectly

All the side characters in the book are so perfect. I felt so bad for Taran, Ed you’re a cutie, Brynn I love you, and Mel had some of the best lines in the whole book!!
If I could punch anyone it would be Warduil omg I HATE that man, and it’s sad he reminds me of real life people right now

I absolutely ADORED this book and duology and I wish I could read it again and again and again!!!

**I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review**

I’m usually pretty skeptical when it comes to sequels—especially if I loved the first book. That was definitely the case here. I went in cautiously… and while I still think I liked the first book a bit more, Spark of Deceit absolutely delivered in all the right ways.

This book has everything you’d want in a great read: romantic tension, action, suspense, twists, villains you love to hate, humor, friendship (and found family!), and of course, magic. The opening hooked me right away—especially coming off that massive cliffhanger in book one.

The misunderstanding between Graydon and Sparklegirl didn’t entirely land for me, but that didn’t take away from the overall experience. The world-building stayed strong, and the fight scenes were cinematic and intense.

What really stood out was how this book managed to tie everything up. All the loose ends from the first book are addressed, making this a satisfying and complete duology. A solid, action-packed sequel that wraps up the story with heart and heat.

What an amazing conclusion to this duology! Thank you Annika for the ARC!
The plot was great and I appreciated that there wasn’t any filler parts. There was SO much more action in this one with no dull moments between Ara and Graydon. I wasn’t a huge fan of the communication issues, more so on Graydon’s part but he made up for it and went from broody to the best supporting soulbound.
The high stakes politics and emotional relationships between the characters were intense in the best way. There was no complicated world-building which was pretty refreshing, and the magic system was straightforward.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review, and I’m so glad that the conclusion to this series was just as damn good as the first! Spark of Deceit was a rollercoaster of action and the perfect conclusion to the world that had been built in Spark of Pursuit. I read it in two sittings, determined to find out who and how they would survive that chaos unfolding in the city around them.

The start was a little tough pill to swallow with both Ara and Grayson in such pain and angst from the fallout of book 1, but the the story soon gave way to drama much bigger than them, forcing everyone to take stock of their choices and path ahead. There were twists and turns aplenty, some moments so surprising I audibly held my breath and kept turning the page wanting to read more and more romance from Ara/Graydon and more action from the fight against the Flame Keepers.

Snow’s writing is so clever, the humour and sarcasm of Ed and Ara is delightful reprieve in a series built around loss and war, and her world comes to live with such unique and stunning descriptions of the urban fantasy landscape she’s built without needing pages and pages of backstory like traditional fantasy storytelling.

I’m excited to read more and more from this author. Thank you for letting me read an ARC.

I have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review....

I absolutely loved this book (and the first one, Spark of Pursuit)!

It is a modern take to romantasay. Immortal police officer and vigilante/heiress with magic and crimes to solve and a relationship to build.
Through the book there are humorous moments, surprising moments, tension, suspense and plenty of action (fighting).
Ara (FMC) and Graydon (MMC) are one of my favourite book couples. I love how strong Ara is, but also her vulnerability. Graydon shows his feelings and purses them wholly.

There was never a dull moment in the book and I couldn't put it down!

Tropes:

-soulmates
-cat and mouse
-hurt her & die
-hurt him & die
-open door spice
-magic

I can't wait to see what's next for Annika!

WOW. Wow wow wow wow wow. This book was exceptional. I didn’t think it was possible that I’d enjoy the second book more than the first but Annika has well and truly done it. I was fortunate enough to get to read this book as an arc and I’m thanking my lucky stars I got to read it asap.

I cannot emphasize enough how well thought through this book is. There is so much average fantasy out there, and this book is not one of them. Every plot line was not only well flushed out, but also satisfyingly wrapped up. This book felt truly epic, and gave me the same feeling as reading the end of crescent city.

I also really love how the romance was done. It portrayed in a refreshingly honest way that gave truth to the complexity of people’s emotions and how love isn’t always simple.

****spoilers ahead*****

Not to mention there was not one, but TWO plot twists I did not see coming. Which is NOT EASY TO DO! Not only do I pretty much always see plots twists or big reveals coming in books, but they feel SO obviously that by the time they’re revealed, it feels like you’ve been beaten over the head with it.

I truly struggle to believe that this is only Annika’s second book! I can’t wait to read literally anything she writes next. Dinner menu? I’ll read it. Grocery list? I’ll read it. Even the authors note at the end of the book was a joy to read

Also special shout out to the last line of the book that made me ACTUALLY laugh out loud.

Well done Annika! 👏👏👏 Please write more soon!

I am so in love with these characters and this world and am so sad to say goodbye to them but this was an INCREDIBLE way to do it!!!

Ara’s growth and the way she finally allowed herself to love and be loved was so touching to read. She is such a special character to me and is such a large piece of my heart now.

Fast paced action scenes, and crazy plot twists, and threats coming at them from every direction was WILD to read and kept me on my toes the whole time. I HATED having to put this down every time I had to call it a night.

Thank you to Annika for the ARC!!! I already can’t wait to revisit this duology and jump into this world and beautiful story all over again!

I was thrilled the conclusion of this series was as great as the first book. Spark of Deceit is an action-packed romance where chaos must be vanquished by both Ara and Grayson. The uncertainty if they will prevail, along with the happenings of rounding corners and sharp edges, will leave you on the edge of your seat as you turn each page. The angst, romance and drama mixed with humour and witty sarcasm made it impossible to put the book down because I needed to know what was going to happen next.

A fabulous read for all who enjoy romance, fantasy and thrillers.

Thank you to Annika Snow for the opportunity to read “Spark of Deceit” in exchange for an honest review.

5 stars!! ✨

Okay, Wow.. I truly love this entire world that you have created that is so different from others in recent years. Im speechless with how this second book amped up the drama that you were left with your jaw on the floor at points. The twists and turns that Anika took in this one blew all expectations out of the water. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time reading this book and seeing where the story was going to take us one last time.
Ara and Grayden’s story especially where we pick up from the end of book 1, we were thrown back into the drama coming right off the top, and immediately fell back into the world that Anika created. The world of Veilfall expanded in this one that is a slowburn but oh it is so good to when the burn is burning. But as they are soulbonds, they are going to be on a journey. ahead. There were twists and turns to keep you on your toes with some moments so surprising I audibly gasped and kept turning the page wanting to read more and more romance from Ara/Graydon and more action from the fight against the Flame Keepers.

Ara, our FMC is such a girly that the book girlies would love. She’s a slightly grumpy gal but she knows what she wants. She is one of the more emotionally complex sci-fi / fantasy gals I have read in a while but that just makes her such an intriguing person to read because you don’t know whats coming around the corner in the best way. It just makes me LOVE HER and miss her already.
Grayden our MMC definitely should be on more people’s radar because this MAN has such the potential to be on so many people’s favourite MMCs list. He is emotionally complex while having the delicate balance of his career and what is right. Ugh I miss him too. Definitely gonna re-read.
Can’t wait to see what Anika’s writing takes us next!! review. Everyone needs to read her books.

This sequel felt like being dropped into a high-stakes action thriller—fast-paced, dramatic, and packed with unexpected turns. It had all the hallmarks of a great read: tension that keeps you hooked, bursts of humour and heart from a beloved ensemble cast, and twists that land with real impact. It wasted no time pulling me into the chaos, and while I still found myself tripping over gaps in the world-building, the result was both exhilarating and deeply entertaining.

🙌 What I Liked
The story kicks off with real momentum, picking up shortly after the cliffhanger from the first book and plunging straight into the action. It felt sharper and more assured this time around—the world and characters already established, the pace no longer slowed by introductions. Instead, the focus is squarely on heightening the tension, pushing the relationships forward, and throwing the reader into the heart of the drama.

The big twist was a real highlight. The lead-up was masterfully done, with subtle clues woven in alongside just enough misdirection to keep me second-guessing. When the reveal finally landed, I was genuinely surprised.

I also adored the found family aspect. Every scene with the crew together—whether plotting, bickering, or regrouping—was gold. Their mix of personalities created a perfect balance of heartfelt moments and humour, and I honestly ate up every interaction. This thread carried the story as much as the central romance did, and for me, it was easily the highlight.

❌ What Didn’t Hit
While some lingering questions from book one were addressed—especially around the soul bond—I found myself frustrated by new ones that weren’t explored. For example, Warduil seemed to appear out of nowhere, suddenly in a position of power, yet his background and motivations were left completely blank. It gave the sense that there’s a larger, unseen hand at play in this world, but with nothing concrete to go on, it felt unfinished. I can only wonder whether this will be fleshed out in future books in this world, but I’d have liked a bit more clarity here and now.

In terms of character dynamics, I had mixed feelings about Ara and Graydon. Learning Ara’s backstory helped me connect with her more than I did in the first book, and I sympathised with her trust issues. That said, the romantic tension between them didn’t quite land. While I understood the obstacles they faced, I felt the ongoing conflict could have been resolved if they’d just put on their big girl/boy pants and faced it head on. I was glad they eventually got their resolution, but the journey there was frustrating.

👀 Do I Recommend It?
Yep! This sequel amps up the stakes in all the right ways—twists, action, humour, and plenty of found family warmth. Even with some lingering world-building gaps and a romance that didn’t fully convince me, the overall ride was gripping and thoroughly entertaining. If you enjoyed the first book, this instalment is a must-read and sets the stage for what could be an even bigger story still to come.

🌟 ARC Review 🌟

4.25⭐

Spark of Deceit by Annika Snow is an awesome mix of dual pov, slow burn, urban fantasy vibes with that classic immortals vs. mortals drama! This book wraps up the Veilfall duology perfectly, picking up right where the first book left off. One thing I loved about Spark of Pursuit was how the world and characters reminded me of Gotham, and I’m thrilled that this carried over into Book 2.

The ensemble cast in Spark of Deceit is fantastic! Each character brings something unique to the table, making it feel like there’s someone for everyone to relate to. In this installment, we really get to dive into the different sides of each character's personality, which adds so much depth to the story and highlights the main characters in a refreshing way.

I couldn’t help but chuckle at some of the standout moments:
- Brynn and her scientific take on “copulating”
- Taran’s emotional use of chinaware
- Ed’s shenanigans the morning after
- Mel's frat house conversation

I really felt for Ara as she juggled her responsibilities and desires, trying to do everything right. She didn’t always nail it, but her accountability was relatable and made it easy to connect with her.

Graydon… wow, he’s been on my shit list since the end of book 1 and definitely needed to redeem himself in this one! He does get some redemption, but there were moments early on where I just wanted to throttle him!

I enjoyed the twist and reveal. The author did a great job dropping just the right hints while keeping us on our toes with some clever misdirection. Honestly, I was totally taken by surprise—I didn’t see it coming. When the big moment hit, I couldn’t help but thing “No, shut up…”. My heart went out to that quirky team of characters, knowing how much this was going to impact them. This reveal stands out for me because it was layered not just a straightforward plot twist/surprise.

Now, I will say the first 30% of the book felt a bit slower compared to Spark of Pursuit, but it makes sense because it sets the stage for all the excitement to come. Once I hit the 40% mark, though, things took off, and the last 30% had me racing through the pages, eagerly wondering what would happen next!

Although Spark of Deceit wraps up the duology, I can see potential spin-offs featuring other characters. Honestly, I’m all in for that! I’d love to see how their stories unfold.

Big thanks to Annika Snow for the gifted ARC!

Ladies and gentlemen, I have a new vital book! This book was FANTASTIC. Thank you Annika for the opportunity to read this arc!

Typically I never like the sequel more than the first book, but this book was phenomenal. I was on the edge of my seat -heart racing, blood pressure increasing - almost this entire novel. I was enthralled from the very first chapter.

The unfolding plot from Spark of Pursuit continued to build, raising the stakes tenfold. This story introduced two new villainous type characters that both gave me equal parts heebie jeebies and rage. The different ideologies creating tension and further between multiple parties was well written with clear motivations.

The relationship growth between Ara and Graydon was beautifully done. The character development and maturation that occurred within their relationship and individually was masterfully articulated. The banter in this book had me laughing out loud and rooting for them the whole way through. I appreciate that they’re both strong and capable individuals separately, but a true force to be reckoned with when together. Also, Ara’s unhinged moments were some of my favourite scenes. I love a romance where they would burn the world down for each other.

This novel felt fast paced with the story continuously building and expanding. It was filled with twists and turns that I did not expect. I appreciate a story with a conflicted political landscape - which this novel did well. It was the perfect balance of high stakes plot development with heart throbbing romance.

I am extremely thankful to have stumbled across Annika’s work. From this completed duology I would never have guessed this is her first published series. In the future I plan to read everything she publishes. I loved these books so much I ordered physical copies for my book shelf!

I highly encourage the bookish community, especially those with access to KU, to give this series a read! It is an added bonus to be supporting an indie author who is also a fellow Canadian 🇨🇦

Thank you again to Annika for the opportunity to read this arc for an honest review. 💖 Absolutely incredible novel!
