Urodzony 3 września 1875 roku Ferdinand Porsche przez jednych jest uznawany za samochodowego inżyniera XX wieku, przez innych zaś za zbrodniarza wojennego, kolaboranta nazistów. Jedno jest pewne Porsche nie jest postacią jednoznaczną. Czytając o nim nie można odmówić mu talentu i nie docenić jego wynalazków, ale wspieranie przemysłu zbrojeniowego, wojennego, a zwłaszcza praca dla Hitlera, wykorzystywanie do pracy w swoich zakładach więźniów obozów koncentracyjnych są poważnymi plamami na jego honorze.

Publikacja Ludvigsena przedstawia w sposób dokładny i szczegółowy życiorys konstruktora, ale w publikacji przeważają opisy wielu konstrukcji, projektów pojazdów, silników autorstwa, pomysłu Porschego. Nie ukrywam, że dla mnie jako laika w kwestii mechanizacji, motoryzacji przez to lektura tej publikacji była trudna i niezbyt przyjemna. Stąd polecam ten tytuł fanom motoryzacji, którzy lepiej odnajdą się w opisach, szczegółach tych konstrukcji. Bądź tym, którzy zainteresowani są życiem i wynalazkami Ferdinanda Porschego.

Pod względem historycznym jest to na pewno ciekawa książka, ale dla cierpliwych i odważnych czytelników, którym nie straszne informacje z zakresu motoryzacji czy przemysłu zbrojeniowego. Książkę wzbogacają także liczne rysunki i zdjęcia, które pozwalają przyjrzeć się, obejrzeć omawiane konstrukcje. Dla mnie lektura tej publikacji była nie lada wyzwaniem, ale trzeba wychodzić ze swojej strefy komfortu i sięgać po lektury, których zazwyczaj nie czytamy i poszerzać swoje horyzonty. Nieprawdaż?

I enjoyed this but I am biased as I have owned two Porsche cars and consider that they make the best in the world. It is not a book for the faint-hearted who can't handle some technical details about engines and suspensions, but it is essential to understand the inventiveness and ingenuity of Ferdinand Porsche as an engineer. His role in the Second World War as a designer and builder of tanks, and his relationship with Hitler, is a very interesting aspect of the book and illuminating about the Nazi war machine. One part that I found a little disappointing is that there is not a great deal about Porsche the man and his relationship with his immediate family, particularly his son Ferry who succeeded him.

Ciekawa książka ale nie w pełni odpowiadała na moje potrzeby odnośnie biografii. Autor koncentruje się wyłącznie na tematach konstrukcji Porsche wojskowych i okołowojskowych, tematy prywatne są na bardzo dalekim planie, tylko jako tło decyzji życiowych profesora. Dokładne opisy pracy silników i niewiele refleksji na temat czy Porsche czuł się dobrze pracując dla jednego z największych zbrodniarzy w historii - tylko na koniec niewielka wzmianka. Czyta się całkiem ok, w sumie to moja wina, że domagałem się więcej - tytuł mówi dokładnie to co się znajduje w środku :)
