Note: This was not reviewed from the Kindle Edition, rather a hardcover book
Before I happened to hear the song Pink Pony Girl, I had no idea who Chappell Roan was. I guess being in my senior years, I have been out of touch with what is considered the best of today’s music. When the local FM station played the song, and then moved to another song without mentioning the name of the artist who performed the song, I had to check out who that person was. I couldn’t get enough of that song, and now with the book THE RISE AND RISE OF CHAPPELL ROAN, it is a pleasure to find out just how she made her mark in the music world, and will continue to do so for a long time to come. The authors gives a most fitting tribute to Roan, talking about her roots and how she got to where she is today. Filled with dozens of photos chronicling the career of the singer, we get to see her being transformed into one of the best. She was born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, and came to show family and friends just how much music meant to her. She has a massive breakthrough in 2012 when she entered Springfield’s Got Talent, which was a local competition. She won first place which also was worth $1012. She went on stage to accept the giant check, and firmly announced, “I want to win a Grammy. That’s my goal. And I’m gonna do whatever it takes to get it.” She decided to change her name to Chappell Roan, Chappell being in honor of her grandfather. It may have taken over a decade after that proclamation, to win a Grammy at the 2024 Awards show, for Best New Artist, but her time had come. She was also nominated in five other categories, including Record of the Year and Album of the Year. Although she didn’t win in these five categories, she had been recognized for her talent, going on to become one of the most sought after musicians of the 2020’s. The book is quite the tribute to her career, featuring notes on some of her concerts, along with offering an analysis and tribute of some of her significant songs that not only began her career, but kept her in the musical spotlight. Her tours are also mentioned here, and the many music festivals that have kept fans enamored by her talents. The book is like a ticket to her life, world, and music, giving fans of this amazing performers all the more reasons to appreciate her outstanding talent.
