Quentin Jerome Tarantino is an Academy Award- and Palme d'Or-winning American film director, screenwriter and actor. He rose to fame in the early 1990s as an independent filmmaker whose films used nonlinear storylines and stylized violence. His films include Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), Jackie Brown (1997), Kill Bill (Vol. 1 2003, Vol. 2 2004), Death Proof (2007), and Inglourious Basterds (2009).
Lots of good quotes--one of the best being: "One of the biggest problems with becoming famous is that people stop talking to you and start asking questions." The ebullience of the guy comes through like a megaphone. Actually the only drawback to the book was from the contributing writers--either of the "hip now happening" crowd (like Rolling Stone) or "Tarantino instigates a searching search for a more fundamental reality" (like all the eggheads). Generally the straight interviews were better than the ones with some quotes plus the writers' impressions.
Quentin Tarantino is a genius. I'm rather disappointed with the book because not all the interviewers got into the camera angles or suspense in his films or those long kind of random dialogues he so much loves to shoot. And those who did so just went over them quickly.
What's surprising for someone always percieved as egotistical, is how humble Tarantino comes off in this book. He goes to a professor's film college and lectures for an hour and a half on New Wave films without mentioning his own work. He gives unindulgent answers in interviews. I'm not saying fame poisoned him or anything but it's great to see he was once young and idealistic. My favourite interview in the book is one where he keeps on calling for coffee, like a character one of his films, while doing a diner interview.
It was a great compilation of Tarantino's interviews from his beginning years. The years in mention allows us to see Tarantino's beginning motivations and where he came from to the industry as a whole. Reading the interviews, you'll also start seeing the things he says in the films. Watching the film right after finishing the interviews of it creates such a nice atmosphere. Overall I had a good time yet still not sure on rating an interview compilation.
Dużo powtórzeń, a Django i Nienawistna Ósemka praktycznie pominięte. 3,5 gwiazdki.

I just LOVE Quentin Tarantino. I think he's a film genius.
This book is quite obviously interviews that Quentin Tarantino has taken part in, and it just stands out exactly HOW much this man knows about films, and how much he LOVES LOVES LOVES to talk about them, and make them and everything. Some things that did annoy me in this book (although really because it's just a transcript of several interviews you can't really be annoyed with it) I got frustrated that because Quentin is so well versed on every film in the whole world and ones that are no longer in this world he would often butt in or correct and this just got annoying, it's like we understand how smart you are in regard to film.... but then again I see this as a credit to the man too. I would Love to work with him, genius!
It also shows a lot of insight into Quentin but then again no insight whatsoever because if you know anything about Quentin his life has turned into some sort of combination of fact and fiction spawned from his over zealous indulgence of every movie ever made. He's a crazy man not only constructing films for others but constructing a life for himself.
I love him, I think he's so clever. Love the films, Love the man. Awesome book. I would recommend though after reading this book you tubing interviews with him. The interviews really showcase his amazing intelligence and creativity, and eccentricity.
This book is a bit old and only really examines Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Quentin Tarantino is his usual weird self, and the interviews end up being overly pretentious... but informative.
