In this second installment we find the story much more grim having gotten much of the mundane character development done in the first book.

Wars are developing on many fronts. Some humans stir up a religious war against the godless elves. The humans who descended from the extinct Magi are being united by a powerful war leader who may or may not be friendly to the "strangers;" the elf immigrants. There's a reptilian humanoid invaders with insect minions from over the sea. And most dire is a half breed of whoes other side is unknown but who has strange abilities, consorts with demons and has a desire to rule the world. Throw in an enraged goddess and things are getting ugly especially since the elves are fighting amongst themselves.

Good pace

The story continues and doesn't disappoint, however the editing needs to be redone. Sentences are repeated and words left out. There is some explicit sex (which I skipped over) and of course there is violence involved as the is a war on. It doesn't leave you hanging but there is more to come. I enjoyed it and will read the next in series

2nd book in series. Picks up where the last left off. Excellent characters and a well paced book.

very chewy, almost too much. Rhodes language is alluring but redundant…I like fantasy as much as the next, and enjoyed the visual challenge after I got used to her pacing.

Another good read from Jenna Rhodes. Her rapid Point of View changes take some getting used to but overall an excellent epic fantasy
