On a hot summer night, near St. Augustine, Florida, a beautiful couple - who had everything going for them - went for a walk on the beach. By midnight, April Barber was dead, her husband Justin was riddled with bullets, and police had a baffling mystery on their hands...Investigators soon suspected that Justin himself was the killer and that the attack was a carefully planned sham. The Justin had carried out multiple affairs and was strapped for the kind of cash April's life insurance would pay. But the cops had a problem. They had no murder weapon, no witnesses, no DNA - no hard evidence at all.For months investigators built their case. But as a nation turned its attention to a riveting courtroom confrontation, the duel between investigators and suspect exploded into a shocking drama. Now a jury would have to decide Justin's fate - and whether or not he'd carried out the perfect crime...
This book had so much potential to be a good book. But no , I skipped lots of this book couldnt wait to finish it. It is very repetitive and too much on the trial and very long. I would have to say its good up until pages 150.
After around page 100 this book is mostly trial transcripts. I did manage to finish but it was slow going. Nothing unusual here. Your typical husband kills wife for the insurance money case.
This one gets three stars for the title alone. This is the "I Used To Love Her But I Had To Kill Her" murder -- Justin Barber downloaded the song, took his wife out to dinner and shot her on the beach, and then deleted the song before turning his computer over to the police. They never found the gun and couldn't prove that he had ever owned or had access to a gun, so I was a little surprised that he was convicted (especially given that he was shot four times during the episode -- self-inflicted according to the prosecution).
True story of the murder of April Barber. This couple lived in Douglas, GA for a short time. 48 HOURS episode of this crime is "Secrets in the Sand." ----- FROM webpage: In August 2002, April Barber was fatally shot while walking with her husband, Justin. Justin was also shot and sustained four bullet wounds in the incident, which he described as an attack by an unknown assailant. In July 2004, after an extended investigation, Justin Barber was arrested for the murder of his wife.
Although from the outset I thought I knew the identity of the killer, after all doesn't it say so in the loner notes!? But after hearing all the agruements, I am glad that I was not on that jury. It always amazes me what some women will put up with in the name of love.
An interesting book. It could have been about a hundred pages shorter because the author rewrote the same information about three different times throughout the book.
I loved this book. It’s frustrating to not know exactly what went on the night April was murdered. I enjoyed this book nonetheless, and hopefully everything will come to light one day
