When they're contractor and client by day, and friends with benefits by night… they just don't know it yet.
All Claire wanted was a night of casual fun, a no-strings-attached distraction from the stress of her new salon renovations. Well, the stress from one person in particular—the owner of the company overseeing those renovations.
On a night out with her best friend, Claire picks the perfect distraction. Blue eyes. Tall with a body made for sin. A guy who knows how to push all the right buttons. Over and over.
Turns out, he’s also the lead contractor. The owner of the construction company, an expert at pushing all the wrong buttons.
Once the truth is out, Claire wants out, too, but every time she turns around, he’s there. Showing her how nice it is to have someone to lean on and let go with. To have someone patient enough to be waiting on the other side when she finally lets those walls come down. Seeing her in a way she hasn’t let herself be seen before. And when he wears those backwards caps, she almost forgets to care that she’s falling, too. Inexperienced with love and romance, Claire is a one and done girl, but this guy makes her question everything.
Trusting the Fall is a contemporary romance about hidden identities, finding the person who suits you perfectly, and learning to trust the fall into love. It's spicy, swoony and funny in all the right places.
• One night stand • Hidden identities • Flirty nicknames • S*x positive FMC • Frenemies with benefits • He falls first and hard • Amazing SPICE starts in chapter 2 • Contractor/Client
Wow!!! I loved every second of this book and completely devoured it in one day! What a wonderful way to kick off what I can already tell will be an amazing writing career for Emme. So many times while reading, I found myself blown away that this was her debut novel! I couldn’t get enough of Leif and Claire and the beautiful universe Emme has created.
We needed an FMC like Claire in the romance world. Honestly, I’m not sure I’ve ever read a character quite like her. She had this beautiful way of lifting up the women around her. Claire is someone I would absolutely want in my corner. Her sex-positivity was unlike anything I’ve read before. She was unapologetically herself, in and out of the bedroom. The way she spoke about sex was one of my favorite parts of the book. She had no problem voicing what she needed or even taking charge without giving off typical female dom vibes. And the way Leif was so open and receptive, allowing her to explore her needs, made me instantly fall in love with their chemistry. Emme gave us an FMC so many of us needed. Whether you relate to her or find yourself channeling your inner Claire, she’s definitely a character to look up to.
You will have no problem swooning over Leif trust me. Watching the way this man worshipped the ground Claire walked on will have you instantly falling for him. From the way he recognized just how special she is, to the adorable acts of service he did to show he cared, he’ll win your heart in no time.
I can’t wait to see where Emme takes this series! I’m so eager to get to know more about these characters and the incredible world she’s created.

Short, sweet, spicy and I've said SPICY - SWEET?????
I've loved her debut, CONGRATULATIONS and thank you for give me the chance to read your ARC! ❤️❤️❤️❤️💗
I absolutely loved the push-and-pull dynamic between the protagonists. That tension and chemistry were so engaging to follow. I also really appreciated how communication and emotional responsibility were present throughout. Though, well, as always, there were moments when I just wanted to land a good punch right in the middle of the male lead’s legs (just kidding… or am I?).
Jokes aside, I truly enjoyed your writing. Even though English isn’t my first language, I found it incredibly easy to read—fluid, captivating, and with a wonderful rhythm. It was such a delightful reading experience. For a debut novel, I’d say this is an absolute success. Congratulations!
What a fantastic debut novel! This book is a delightful mix of lighthearted, swoony moments, spice, low angst, and plenty of humor. I adored the main characters, Claire and Leif—they have such amazing chemistry! I found myself cheering for them right up to the very end. Their story kicks off when Claire meets Leif at a bar, and they share an unforgettable night. They find it impossible to stay away from each other, so when they meet again, they embark on a friends-with-benefits arrangement without swapping names. Little do they know, they’ve already been in touch through emails since Leif is working on renovating Claire's new salon!
Claire is such an awesome character! She's smart, beautiful, confident, sassy, fiery, and independent—honestly, I wish I could be more like her! She's skeptical about love and has trust issues because of her mom's past, but that's all set to change when Leif enters her life. Suddenly, she can't stop thinking about him, which shakes things up for her. I loved watching her gradually open up to him and finally decide to explore a real relationship. Her character growth was amazing, and I was so proud of her for being vulnerable with Leif.
And Leif? He’s the ultimate book boyfriend! Right from the beginning, he senses a special connection with Claire and wants something deeper than just casual hookups. But he’s so patient and understanding, allowing her to take her time. How he helps her see her worth and treats her like a queen is just swoon-worthy. He consistently proves that she can trust him and that he won’t hurt her.
The supporting characters added a fun dynamic to the story, too! I loved Leif's parents and siblings, and the friendship between Claire and Lex is just wonderful. If you're looking for something quick, light, and filled with spice and humor, you need to pick up this book. I can’t wait to read the next book!
BETA/ARC REVIEW: I'll never forget the day I slid into Emme's DMs throwing my hat in the beta reader ring (shoot those shots, ladies!). I'm forever grateful she took me up on my offer because now I get a front row seat to her author journey. I'm still blown away that Trusting the Fall was a debut. I was instantly drawn into the world Emme created and found myself wanting to know more about every person *cough GAGE cough* mentioned on the page.
Claire is such a strong + fiercely independent FMC. Her mom's traumatic past heavily influenced how she was raised, which plays a role in how Claire sees + approaches the world. She guards her heart with skill, but that all starts to change when she meets a Viking at a bar one night.
Leif is a confident man who runs his own business with precision. He's well grounded with a strong head on his shoulders, and is the ultimate cinnamon roll MMC. When he meets a Bombshell out one night, he feels a deep connection that makes him seek out more than just a physical connection.
These two were crackling with chemistry from the first bump into each other at the bar. Their connection was LEAPING off the page and I just kept wanting more + more of them! The way Emme wrote their love story with the breaking down of walls together was so beautiful. If you're looking for an equally sweet + spicy read with low angst (MY JAM!) then read this! I can't wait to see what's next from Emme's beautiful brain!
♡ 𝑇𝑟𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐹𝑎𝑙𝑙 ♡ Oh my gosh y'all Emme's debut had me from the start. Like just wow!!! If this is Emme's debut, I can only tell Emme is going to do some wonderful things with writing.
I absolutely loved this book. The banter, the girl-mance, (not sure what to call the girl version of Bro mance.) the emails, the hot, steamy, chemistry and once they finally met. oh gurl, that lead up was everything. I couldn't get enough of Leif and Claire!!!
I need my own Lover boy, because Leif was checking alllllll the boxes. The way he held patience, how he knew how special Claire was, and fed off that energy. How he cared for her in ways of acts of service and orgasms lol. Hell have you swooning from the start of the book till the end.
Oh and bombshell, our pink queen and FMC, Claire, was unlike any FMC I've read. She was beautiful , tenacious, unapologetically her true self. She was bold and didn't skirt around what she wanted, as she had no problem asking for what she needed or even taking charge without a second notice. Then having Leif be so receptive to Claire's boldness, allowing her to take what she needed by exploring those needs, has me not only cheering them both on, but falling in love with them.
If you love: • One night stand • Hidden identities • Reformed playgirl/Cinnamon Roll • Contractor/Client • Frenemies with benefits • He falls first and HARD • Banter and plenty of spice
I'm so excited for more and can’t wait to see where Emme takes this series! Eek! I’m so eager for Lex and Caleb’s book and to be immersed in more of this world she’s created.
Thanks to Emme for allowing me to be an early reader.
Trope - hidden identities, insta-attraction, small age gap, curvy FMC, frenemies to lovers, banter, client × contractor, blue collar MMC, independent FMC, workplace, forbidden, he falls first, kinky, ONS, reformed playgirl, reverse grumpy sunshine, strangers to lovers, with benefit, steamy, HEA Bonus chapter - 1
OMFG I can't appreciate this book enough. It was captivating from beginning to end. Claire meets Leif at a club; they promise to have ONE steamy night together, but then find themselves unable to keep their hands off each other. The connection between them was electric from their first meeting.
Claire is commitment-phobic; she doesn't trust anyone easily except her mother and best friend. Enter Leif, her new "casual" hookup, who not only brings her to ecstasy but also makes her feel emotions she has never experienced before.
Leif had my attention from the start. He was the perfect blend of a sweet, gentle, considerate man with a dirty mouth. He was so patient with her throughout the book. Although he was a commitment guy, he was ready to wait for her, and that thought made him incredibly attractive.
Claire was ambitious and determined; she was raised to never rely on anyone, but gradually, without realising it, she began to trust and lean on Leif. At times, I felt bad for both of them when she pulled away from him, but later it was reassuring to read and know that someone like Leif would forge his own path regardless of the challenges he faced. Damn, their journey was beautiful, and their chemistry was undeniably strong.
Claire, oh my, WE NEED FMCs like Claire, she was so sassy, confident, sex-positive, empowering, and unapologetically herself. It's characters like hers that leave a lasting impact on readers, and I'm certain I won’t forget her. Did I mention she's pierced? OMFG, HOT!!
Both of them were just a chef's kiss. BOOK BOYFRIEND and GIRLFRIEND - acquired!!
Their banter and continuous back-and-forth after the revelation was so different yet enjoyable. Leif once again stole the show with his dedication and admiration for Claire. I loved watching them overcome their struggles and vulnerabilities for each other.
I almost cried tears of joy when they both finally surrendered and officially got together. _____________________________ Side characters & plot- 1. I was captivated by Caleb and Lex's story from the outset. Their small moments here and there intrigued me to a great extent - the cold billionaire heir being all soft and polite around the shy and sweet girl. Damnn!! 2. Lex and Leif's bond was unexpected, yet so sibling-like. 3. The Connor family was so loving and humorous. Reading them was, in a way, healing. Loved them. 4. Westley, Liv, Gage, Mason, all of them left a mark, and I'm hoping to read their stories in the future. ______________________________
The epilogues were so wholesome, showcasing different moments between Leif and Claire at various stages of their lives, family moments, and ultimately a glimpse of future couples. That is what I call the perfect epilogue, a mix of everything.
When I first started this book, it was meant to be a palate cleanser before I resumed one of my ongoing series, and I went in with literally NO expectations - but DAMNN, this book stood out in more ways than one. Both the MCs were so intelligent, determined, confident, and loving; the side characters were equally impressive; the spice and plot were perfectly balanced and enjoyable. I love it when I start books with zero expectations but end up considering them among my favourite reads. I devoured this book, which is one reason it took me so long to finish it.
The bonus epilogue was spicy and so good ✨️.
I am going to miss these characters, which is why I signed up for the ARC of the next book. So fingers crossed 🤞🏽 everyone. I can't wait.
LOVED IT. Highly recommended if you are looking for plot and spice. Overall 5/5
Emme told me I’d devour this book in one afternoon on the couch - gal wasn’t wrong! What a debut, honestly! I’ve been looking forward to this book for ages, and I’m so proud of Emme!! Yes, I also did read this in my head with an Aussie accent 🤣
“Trusting the Fall” follows Claire and Leif. They cross paths, unbeknownst to them, have a ONS which turns into a friends(ish) with benefits arrangement. She’s a beauty therapist opening a salon and he’s contractor doing the renovations. No names are exchanged during their arrangement 😂 and they eventually work out who each other are! I thought the hidden identity part of this was done really well!
I would consider this book as low angst, and low stakes but Emme does a wonderful job of highlighting her character’s growth, the gaining of trust within themselves (especially Claire) and their vulnerabilities. Leif is such a golden retriever and he is always so keen to show Claire what she means to him. He’s honest, challenges her and ensures she knows her worth. I loved seeing her walls come down. Leif never pushed her, he was always just ‘there’. Their chemistry was instantaneous which continued throughout the book; Emme wrote some bloody good spicy scenes!!
I’m so stoked to see where this series (and her other one) goes. I’ve my eye on a few side characters already and some couple predictions so we will see!
Add to your TBR if you like: - romance set in Australia - Client x contractor - Hidden identities - ONS > friends with benefits - Reformed play girl x cinnamon roll
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!! What a fantastic debut novel! Claire & Leif offer everything you could want out of a romance: lighthearted story, fiery banter, the sweetest MMC moments and so much SPICE!
🔨 Contractor x Client (hidden identities) 🩷 One Night Stand 🔨 She’s Pierced 🩷 Frenemies With Benefits 🔨 Cinnamon Roll MMC (with filthy mouth) 🩷 Reformed Playgirl
Claire is such a refreshing character, with her strong self confidence and the way she is unashamed of her physical needs/wants. I’m pretty sure my new fav thing is a reformed playgirl who takes what she wants without regret but falls hard for the right one!
Leif is a dreamy MMC - devoted, hardworking and ready to step up to the challenge. He’s the perfect cinnamon roll guy with a filthy mouth. I have such a sweet spot for men who want love & commitment and I couldn’t get enough of the way he challenged Claire’s hard stance against relationships by showing her all the ways he was good for her.
The hidden identify component of the book was so well written and SO MUCH FUN 😂👏🏻 After their hot one night stand, they trade off between red hot moments together in person and frigid work emails apart - not realizing it’s with the same person.
Let’s Talk Spice: This book will check every box on your spicy wishlist and dishes up some seriously ICONIC spicy lines that will have you kicking your feet! From their ONS to their frenemies with benefits connection later on, Emme nailed the spice with this one!
If you’re a fan of lighthearted, romantic and spicy books, you’ll want to grab Trusting The Fall! A perfect spring/summer read! Thank you so much to Emme for the ARC opportunity 🫶🏻
Woah I flew through this one. Could hardly put it down. The spice be SPICING in this book that starts out with a bang (literally), and doesn’t stop and YET manages to have a lovely plot, endearing characters, and great emotions! Leif was top tier boyfriend material. He started off strong and never let up without ever being pushy about it. What Claire needed and wanted, he would give to her. He was so solid that it felt like she couldn’t do anything BUT fall in love with him. I loved that Claire showed beautiful growth throughout the book. Her history made her so reluctant and distrustful of love and yet being with Leif aka Lover Boy showed her that things could be different. I loved that she gave herself room to trust and take chances. So so so enjoyable and fun to read and can’t wait for Lex’s book!
Ps- I ADORE a sex positive storyline and this one was brilliant about it.
Well that slapped so freaking hard it knocked me on my ass.
I spent 285 pages squawking like a goddamn parrot, kicking my feet in the air and sweating.
Easy to read and hard to put down, I filed multiple complaints with Emme about the sleep deprivation and cheek pain I was suffering as a direct result of ‘Trusting the Fall’.
The tension and chemistry. The banter. The spice and swoon. The biting wit that had me laughing out loud at all hours.
FMC Claire is a devout disciple of SATC’s Samantha Jones - she’s unapologetic, sassy, sexy and intelligent.
MMC Leif is your next book boyfriend. You KNOW I love a blonde MMC. Blonde, viking MMC? Hard to top. Spoiler alert: Leif does it. He is the down BADDEST. He’s patient and thoughtful and emotionally available and he knows how to wield that which God has given him 😏🍆🖐️👅
Emme has written a book that is equal parts fun, flirty and full of heart, an impressive feat by any standard.
Before I forget: a moment for the most elite nicknames, period. Come the fuck on, Bombshell and Lover Boy? Fuck me. Also, the email exchanges? HUGE fan.
Now, prepare to be sat, because, surprise! This is Emme’s DEBUT.
Good talk guys. Now, you’ll have to excuse the fuck out of me because I’m off to convince Emme to be my friend and pester her for Liv and Wes’ book.
Trusting The Fall has a delicious mix of spice, swoon, pop culture references and a splattering of secret identifies that will have you giddy.
Lover Boy Leif and our Bombshell Claire are the ultimate couple goals. Claire is full of girl power, she may be a Playgirl but her Lover Boy is persistent in showing Claire that more isn’t always a bad thing and that when you find the right person. The person that lifts you up that fights for your hopes and dreams is a relationship worth fighting for!
Trusting the Fall is an absolute triumph of a debut novel, and the first in the Matters of the Heart series by Emme Goode. I got the pleasure of being apart of this journey as a Beta, and seeing how the story progressed, the Easter Eggs of how this universe will bloom makes me a little tingly for what’s to come next!
I needed Leif and Claire’s story—"Trusting the Fall" is a palate cleanser after reading so many cowboy and small-town romances that start to run together.
I’m surprised this is Emme Goode’s first book because it doesn’t read like one. The story is well-written, and the plot flows smoothly from beginning to end. I was hooked when Claire and Leif first met. There are so many moments in the story that made me giggle. And I was surprised that the third-act breakup didn’t feel like the usual drama-filled breakup. It felt like a gentle pause and reset, which, in my opinion, Claire needed because it opened her eyes to who had been in front of her the entire time, adding to her character growth.
Leif’s steadfastness, actions, and words of care and affirmation are what Claire needs as she starts a new chapter in her life. Her stubbornness and tenacity would hold her back, and I believe Leif was able to show her she had options without sacrificing who she is and what she wants. In many ways, Leif’s commitment to Claire also showed her that what she was told growing up isn’t the absolute truth, which is also similar to her relationship with her best friend, Lex.
I love Leif’s character, and I loved him for Claire. And the spice—while not mild, it doesn’t quite reach hot either—I’d still call it spicy. I appreciated the way Emme Goode gave the spice right away, showing Claire’s sex positivity and the intense attraction between her and Leif.
Like I mentioned earlier, "Trusting the Fall" is a breath of fresh air—serving giggles, sweet and spicy romance, a Viking god, and an all-around good time. I also enjoyed the groundwork Emme Goode laid for the next book in the series. I’m looking forward to reading what’s next in the Emme-verse.
With all that said, I only found one area where "Trusting the Fall" is lacking, and that would be an audiobook. I want it! I’d love to hear Leif and Claire’s story played out and have an easy, joyful listen.
If you give "Trusting the Fall" a read, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
ARC Review Read this if you're in the mood for a spicy rom-com with fantastic banter and a cinnamon roll MMC determined to prove why he's the one worth the risk. Bonus points that it’s set in Australia so you can learn some Aussie lingo! (Note: The spice is spicing in this book. It starts in chapter 2, and there are 8 explicit open door chapters, so if that’s not your cup of tea, then this may not be a good next read for you.)
Tropes: • Hidden identities • One night stand • He falls first • Reformed playgirl x Cinnamon roll MMC • Contractor x Client
Premise: What started out as a fun, no-names one night stand turns into more, and they learn he's the contractor building her salon. Series: It is book 1 in the Matters of the Heart series, and characters from Emme’s upcoming Heart City Billionaires series make appearances in this book as well.
My thoughts: Claire is a badass (think SATC Samantha Jones). I loved her confidence to follow her dreams, fierce loyalty to her best friend Lex, and unapologetic sex-positive attitude. Would I love to have a girls night with her? 💯
Leif is a walking green flag and pure cinnamon roll goodness. Who doesn’t love a man who is obsessed with pleasing his partner, patient and thoughtful? He sets up her coffee for the next morning before he leaves at night. Total book boyfriend material.
Claire and Leif had instant chemistry from the moment they bumped into each other. It was fun to see their relationship evolve from a one night stand into friend with benefits and more. I normally get frustrated with miscommunication or stubborn MCs, but I totally understood why Claire was hesitant to let down her carefully built walls for Leif. Kudos to Emme on how she handled everything!
Overall, this was such a great read and even more impressive that it’s Emme's debut! It had me smiling and laughing with all the sassy banter and swoonworthy moments. I especially loved so many of the side characters and am looking forward to reading their stories in future books!
I devoured this book! It had me hooked from the very first page & I couldn’t put it down. I’m still reeling from the fact that this is Emme’s debut novel. Like… excuse me, what?! She killed it👏
Claire is an incredible FMC. She’s fierce, unapologetically herself, and she’s all about owning yourself as a woman. Her confidence was so admirable and I loved how she never hesitated to speak her mind. She is extremely guarded with her heart though, due the trauma her mom faced, but then Leif comes along and slowly breaks through her walls.
And can we talk about Leif freaking Connors?! This man is perfection. He falls hard and fast for Claire. This men is so supportive of her. He made it okay for her to finally let someone care for her and that dynamic was everything.
The banter between these two had me cackling 🤣 Their chemistry was so palpable and their personalities balanced each other so well. I was fully invested in every moment of their relationship.
And the spice was SPICING. Starting in ch 2 & it got hotter and hotter! The mouth on this man… and on her! 👏🥵
I’m also seriously intrigued by every single side character, especially Gage, the tatted up, pierced bar owner who is hot as sin. I need his book ASAP. I can’t wait to see where this series goes next!
I really enjoyed this book! First of all it is SPICY! Like wow. So much so I almost thought maybe it was TOO spicy (I know right? Insanity.) But after sitting on it for a day I was like it's still 5 stars for me. The story is great. The character arc for Claire is great. She is not the same person at the end as she was. Leif is a big ole teddy bear and it's so easy to love him.
I really do like how women are writing sexy, powerful, confident women who are confident in their sexuality and what they want. Even if I am not completely there myself I love it. I feel like more women need to be empowered and own that it is ok to want to sexual and in control of our lives in all areas. Claire is all of those things and learns it's also okay to open your heart to someone and have them stand by you.
The best part of this book is you are just happy after. It's a great feel good book with a TON of spice. I am grateful for the opportunity to read this arc for my honest opinion. Thank you Emme!
• One Night Stand • Hidden Identity • Entrepreneur FMC • Cinnamon Roll MMC • Explicit Open Door Spice
OMGGG what an incredible debut!!! This book was sweet and SPICYYY and I loved it!! I love a fierce FMC, and Claire absolutely delivered! Claire knows exactly who she is as a woman and entrepreneur. She exudes confidence, and I loved seeing a woman own her power without apology in business and in the bedroom! Leif was a SWOONY MMC. He was HOT AF in all the right ways, but he was also so supportive and patient with Claire as she took time to open up emotionally. I was eating up their flirty chemistry, and I am a SUCKER for a hidden identity romance! I was giddy waiting for the Claire to discover who Leif really was! The spice in this book is SCORCHING, and these two had amazing push and pull chemistry and were so balanced with how they took turns taking the lead. I would definitely recommend this book to any spicy romance lover!
Wow, what a debut! It’s honestly hard to believe this is Emme’s first book because she absolutely nailed it. From start to finish, I was hooked!
Claire is the kind of heroine we need more of in romance… bold, self-assured, and unapologetically herself. She knew what she wanted and didn't hold back, and I loved her for it.
And Leif? He was a dream, the ultimate cinnamon roll. He was attentive, sweet, and so smitten from the start.
The chemistry between them was magnetic, filled with playful banter, emotional vulnerability, and growth that makes you root for them all the way. And, of course, I have to mention the spice! Absolutely delicious, Emme knows how to write a spicy scene so well.
Honestly, I could’ve read 100 more pages of these two.
This was an easy and engaging read. The spice was amazing! I adored how confident and fierce Claire was, and how she learnt to trust with the help of Leif. This set up the world and side characters in a really intriguing way, and I'm eager to read more by Emme.
The first chapters were slightly rough, as they felt like info dumping, but the writing got a lot smoother very quickly and held me in a tight grip the rest of the way.
Fun, hot and delightful!

✨ARC REVIEW✨ 4.5⭐️ Loved this debut so much!! This book was so fun and I really enjoyed reading it! For her whole life it has just been Claire and her mom. After the disaster that was the situation with her father her mother essentially told her she never needs a man in her life. Claire was determined to only have a man for one purpose. She runs into Leif at a bar and they have one memorable night together that turns into one more night and one more night. Leif is starting to feel that something is different about her but the problem…he doesn’t even know her name or anything about her. Claire meanwhile is building her own salon with the help of an infuriating contractor. Everything he suggests that goes against what she wants turns out to be the better option. But the guys she can’t get enough of in her bed may be a little closer to the infuriating contractor than she thinks. Will Claire be able to get past her hesitations with men to see what could come of her connection with Leif or will his true identity make her keep her distance? Let me just start by saying I loved how unapologetically herself that Claire is and her commitment to pink in the salon! This book was SPICY but I loved how it also was so right for the story. I felt so bad for Claire that she felt like she couldn’t let anyone get close to her because they would only disappoint her. If anyone was going to change her mind it was going to be Leif. I loved how persistent her was to eventually win her over. The story did such a good job setting up future stories I can’t wait for either!! So many fun interactions between all the side characters and such a good ending! You are going to want to read this one!!

This was such a delicious spicy-sweet romcom debut for this author!!
The town, the vibes, the characters are all written so well that it's easy to picture yourself among them. Lief is spicy and delicious, and the way that he loves and wants to please his woman? Well, let's just say, I said aww multiple times!
Claire is fiesty and fierce and so damn beautiful! She's independent and she's also wanting to really be taken care of - she just won't openly admit to that! The way that Lief accepts her - all of her 100% and completely is just a truly beautiful thing. He sees her fears of needing someone, and of relying on someone, and he is understanding and kind throughout the entire process of getting her to open up. Claire is unapologetically herself and I just adore that about her. She's a go-getter and that just shines throughout the whole book. The spice is also just SPICY but it's also sweet because they are so in-tune to one another, and they really grow together.
So grateful for Emme with trusting me to be an ARC reader for her baby! I am so grateful that I have gotten to read this one, and am so eager to see where she goes next!
Claire and Leif meet in da clerb and start a spicy fling but never exchange names. For weeks and weeks. She’s got walls up around her heart that even Leif can’t penetrate (that pun tho 🙇🏻♀️). Meanwhile, what they don’t know is that his construction company has been working on building out her dream salon. So when these two dummies finally put all the pieces together, she resists their natural draw to each other bc she don’t need no mans. Except Leif isn’t just any man.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.75) Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Genuinely enjoyable. If you’re looking for a low angst, high spice palate cleanser, here it is. These two are horny af. I found it odd that he never just took her on a date once their identities were revealed. Alas, this was a quick easy read if you just want a spicy good time with low tension. Also it’s an Aussie book so there were some fun Aussie-isms that my American ass didn’t know! This is Emme Goode’s debut and I will def pick up the next in this series.
🫡 Tropes deployed: hidden identities, friends with bennies to lovers
As someone living my dreams with my own contractor this book HIT. We get spicy in the first 6% and when I say spicy, I mean spicy. I literally devoured this in one day, I could not put it down. Then I find out it’s Emme’s debut novel! Are you serious! This is a masterpiece. Claire was raised by a single mom who always told her men wouldn’t bring her happiness, she needed to make her own. She is unapologetically herself and isn’t afraid to speak her mind which was so refreshing. To not be ashamed to take what she needed, how she needed it. Leif is the tall muscular cinnamon roll who knew exactly what Claire needed from their very first night together. Definitely a mommas boy, who has a deep respect and love for family. No names were exchanged in their one night stand turned friends with benefits but when they find out he is the contractor working on her salon, tensions run high. Claire was always raised to keep men at a distance and Leif is smitten. He does everything he can to convince her to open up and I was here for all of it. This is the love story you want and need in your life.
Emme Goode's debut is BEYOND hot, and I will be screaming about Leif and Claire from the rooftops how much I love them!! This was such a fantastic spicy debut, and I can't get enough. The first book in the Matters of the Heart series has landed, and you MUST add this to your tbr if you're already not reading it.
Set in gorgeous Australia and features one of my new favorite FMC's Claire "Bombshell" Prior. Fiercely independent, fiesty, and not afraid to speak her mind in and out of the bedroom🤭🤭 She was such a spitfire and everything you want in an FMC. As for Leif, I couldn't get enough of him. Sweet and sexy and the mouth on this man🥵🥵🥵 I needed to fan myself He was so sweet and patient with Claire, and I loved how he took what he could get and how utterly down this man was for her. There are so many sweet and spicy moments n this book. Ummm, also, there are 8 spicy chapters in this book, and they are all perfection!!
Tropes: 🌸One Night Stand 🌸Hidden identities 🌸Contractor/Client 🌸Reformed playgirl 🌸He falls first 🌸Spice + banter Thanks to Emme for the arc opportunity💓💓
Holy cow Emme’s debut novel is incredible! This was SUCH A FUN TIME. I loved the reformed playgirl x cinnamon roll that was Claire + Leif. It was so refreshing from the typical FMCs I read about. Claire is such a fierce badass who knows what she wants and is basically who I would want to be as my alter ego.
I loved watching her journey in this story and seeing the patience and space that Leif was willing to give her before she came around.
Kudos to Emme for a stellar debut. I really do hope this comes out on audio, it would be perfect!
amazing debut book! infinity stars! you want something fun and sexy yet will get you out of a reading slump? this one if for you!
all the banter, spice, heartfelt moments, and made me giggle moments. I love Leif was able to bring out Claire's soft side and helped open up her heart to love with trusting the fall for him! 💓
thank you so much to emme Goode for letting me arc read this book, I can't wait to see what book comes next!

Claire and Leif start out with what’s meant to be just a fun, no strings attached night. But things take a turn when Claire finds out Leif is the contractor who’s been pushing all her buttons while working on her new salon. Claire’s never been big on relationships, she’s more of a keep it casual kind of girl but Leif isn’t backing down. He’s determined to show her that love doesn’t have to be complicated and that she can trust him. I really enjoyed their sweet connection and Leif’s persistence. If you’re looking for a feel good romance with some steamy spice, this one’s worth adding to your TBR!
What a great debut! I loved Leif and Claire so much!! The chemistry was 🔥 and the spice was 🥵😮💨. Leif is just 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻😍. I really enjoyed the storyline but how do you go so long without telling the man you’re seeing your name?! Looking forward to book 2, I absolutely need to know how Lex and Caleb shake out!
📕Book Review📕 The fact that this is Emme Goodes debut is so mind blowing. I started this with a smile on my face and kept it for the whole damn thing. The character development was impeccable, the spice delightful and smooth and the general story had purpose, meaning, and value. Go in blind if you can.
👋 Therapist Take: as the name suggests, this was a story about the slippery nature of letting yourself fall in love and fall out of old rigid patterns that keep us from truly living. Claire (FMC) was an example of the impact of childhood attachment challenges and the belief that love equates to pain, often keeping men at an arms length and struggling with feeling something was missing. Though polar opposites in their upbringing and exposure to healthy love and relationships, both are guarded and clumsy as they discover one another in more ways than one. The lessons we thought we learned are never as powerful as those we teach ourselves through experience- and what a lovely reminder to decide for ourselves who we feel people are for us instead of relying on assumptions or reputation. Leif is a top tier MMC. A man who basks in the glow of his lady without trying to steal it will get invited to sit with her in it and invited to share its warmth. Gosh I loved this book and can’t wait to own it and scream “I know her!” whenever someone talks about it, which they absolutely will. Congrats Emme, bask in the glow of this 👏🏻
