After my last encounter with the other side, I thought I’d earned a break. But life—and death—don't work that way. The very living Herbert Court has just barged into my life, claiming he's being haunted by a spirit and needs my help. The catch? Herbert's got his own paranormal gifts—but getting him to realize that is way harder than I thought.
Turns out, I’m not entirely good at this whole mentor thing.
If I'd only known that Herbert would show up and destroy everything I’ve worked so hard to protect, I would’ve sent him packing at first sight. But I didn’t. Now I’m stuck fixing a mess of my own making—finding a killer, solving a murder, and somehow keeping a very tall, very agitated, and very green medium from losing control… before it all blows up in my face.

This was the right medicine to help getting over a cold! Laughing is the best medicine. I love Zoe, her quirkiness, her courage, her 'do-the-right-thing' attitude. And her family are also lovely 'jerks'. It was interesting to see this new story of Zoe helping another medium, not taking control in the command centre but trying to mentor. I wonder what's next... And I can't wait for little Mathilde to grow older and be able to express herself better!
Well, this is the last book of this 10-book series and it was just starting to get good! Lol, just kidding. It has been pretty good the last four or five books… if you don’t mind a woman that always seems to get herself into trouble and runs around like a whirlwind while investigating for spirits that have “unalived”. This book contained a lot of shouting, crying, and confusion. It was LOUD!
In case this is the first book in this series you’re about to read, just know it can be read as a stand alone, but you won’t know the full background and experiences Zoe has been through if you don’t begin with book one. This fulfills the need of your suspense as I had no idea what was going to happen to who and what people were missing or were actually deceased - great buildup. There are so many possibilities as to who the potential killer is and what the full picture is once all pieces are put together.
The way this ended makes me believe Zoe and Mike’s story will continue in a book 11, although it works without. Zoe reminds me of the character Rebecca from The Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella because both Zoe and Rebecca are always running around like chickens with their heads cut off and both are income broke. Their personalities are so similar.
Since there are no more Zoe stories right now, I’m going to do something I usually don’t do - because I’ve got a list in my phone reminders I’m forever adding to that I take books to read from - and that’s to choose a book from my GoodReads Books I Want to Read. Since I’ve been thinking of The Shopaholic series since I started Zoe Lane’s stories, my next book is called, “I Owe You One”. Also, I marked I Owe You One as a GoodReads to read book over 5 years ago, so it’s about time!
See you in my next review! Deuces to your cabooses!
I think the set up for this paranormal series is fun. It is one where it is probably pretty important to read in order but not absolutely essential except that you really need to read the first one to get enough background to understand the set up. That first one made me laugh quite a bit. I haven't read all of them yet but I've been amused by things in each book I have read.
I wasn't sure who the guilty party was in this mystery. There were some red herrings that had to be ruled out. I like Zoe and how she handles her challenges in life. When I think about her mom, I just shake my head. It was quite a childhood for her.
There is violence in the story but some of it is in visions of future-events-if-the-present-isn't-changed kinds of things.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this cozy mystery.
I adore this book series. Zoe Lane continues to be such an amazing main character. I love that she is not perfect, makes mistakes, and has a real feeling relationship with other characters. I love that she inspires me to be authentically me, even if the outside world doesn't like it.
I'm elated we got a book 10 after thinking the 9th was going to be the end. If I had a choice, this series would keep going until Zoe was the old lady she was told about in the vision.
If you love a suspenseful book that is both funny yet will keep you engaged with a "who did it" crime element, this series is for you.
I found this series when book one was being published, and have been reading Zoe Lane's experiences ever since. This one was so different because she's a mentor and it's not really her responsibility. That new slant on the situation made for a different reading experience---and I loved it! Wonderful characters, team work, confusing details, remembrances of her first case, and an unexpected ending all combined to make it a terrific addition to this fun series. Do yourself a favor and read them all... You'll be glad you did!
It took me some time to get into this book and I’m so happy that I finally did. I love a good psychic mystery, and I’ve read all the other books in the series and was happy to see a new one. I love Zoe and her quirkiness and this journey she’s on to get a handle on her abilities. I fell like that ending is letting us know that there will more than likely be more books.
I love Zoe. She is insanely, delightfully hilarious. I find myself cackling like a crazy person just reading about her everyday life. I love that she is who she is and that she takes her gift seriously. I can’t even imagine dealing with what she deals with…I would NOT do so well. I loved this book and look forward to the next one.
I’ve loved all of Erin Huss’ List Souls books. I hope there will be more. This one had more twists and turns and quirky characters than most cozy mysteries. I enjoyed following Zoe and Mike and Brian as they attempted to help Herbert learn to live with his new medium abilities…and solve a few missing persons cases along the way.
Zoe is back & this time she’s is a mentor to a reluctant new medium. He wants nothing to do with being a medium but he had no choice in the matter. A really great story, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Erin Huss is a wonderful story teller. She builds characters that are easy to visualize and remember. I am a bookworm and I highly recommend A lost Souls Lane mystery series. I've read them all.
I'm so happy Zoe is back. This time, there are a few ghosts (I mean spirits) that we get to know. The characters kept me laughing throughout the book and I was thoroughly entertained. This is such a fun series!
These books are so fun, the people are believable and the writing is so good you feel like you know them. I also love how each experience makes death not a scary thing but a wonderful journey.
Medium Have I Never by Erin Huss is the 10th book in the Lost Souls Lane Mystery Book Series. Zoey Lane is a medium who uses her gift to help the dead cross over. But most of Zoey’s experiences are with helping the dead that were murdered or about to be murdered. I have loved this series from the beginning but was worried book 10 wouldn’t live up to the hype after book 9. But I was wrong! This book is so good.
Zoey has to help a new medium deal with the dead while other people go missing. This book brought out the normal humor and the twists and turns were so good. I love this book and can’t wait for more.
While the mystery and case is standalone in this book, I would recommend starting at book one so you know the back story.
