Do you know how a black widow kills its prey, Kameron? Once the pest has found its way into the web, the black widow will use their hind legs to wrap the victim in silk. The widow will then haul it over to a resting place on its web, where it can sink its fangs in and inject the prey with venom.

It seems you have an insect in your web, Kameron. And her name is Lilith Jones.

“if I die and your heaven is real I’ll be sure to let every man who went through death row know they wasted their last meal by not having you.”

this is a dark romance novella, hitman x target, secret experiments, religious cult, drugging, stockholm syndrome, love triangle, brainwashing, ends in a cliffhanger 🖤🕷️🕸️

with lilith’s brother dies in a “car accident” she begins to dig deeper about his death. she works in the garden which is a catholic rehabilitation, and people there begins to notice that she’s getting closer to the truth. she becomes a target and her life is flipped upside down.

i absolutely ate this story up !!! literally started it at like 5am and couldn’t stop reading 🤩 i was so intrigued with where the story was going. this is a fast paced novella that had me flipping the page like crazy omg. for a short book it was still packed with action and a gripping plot. the character development was quick but it’s there and i loved that so much 😍

i’m excited for what’s to come next !! THAT ENDING ??!? BRUTAL !!!

“…If I die and your heaven is real I’ll be sure to let every man who went through death row know they wasted their last meal by not having you.” 🙏🏼🫠

Is it cliché to start my review with “oh my godddd” 😂 No but fr I devoured this book. While it is definitely not a read for everybody, I loved the way O.D Emma shed light on the many ways that religion (sometimes) can be traumatic and hypocritical. It was a quick read but still had plenty of substance to make it feel like a well developed book and I am anxious for the second part of the duet!! 🖤 Happy Release day O.D Emma!

“Lilith get on top of my face,” I order, “if I die and your heaven is real I’ll be sure to let every man who went through death row know they wasted their last meal by not having you.”

That’s the one line in the book that made me giddy.

Truthfully the story was somewhat boring for me. It was a unique story with the characters but overall fell flat.

i was delighted that i was selected for an ARC of In God’s Absence, not realizing it was book 2 in the series. So i quickly read In God’s Name and O.M.G! (no pun intended)

The cliffhanger is something else, it had me at the edge of my seat! And of course, in true Kameron fashion, he had to end off the book with a bang. Passion screams from every page, every action, nothing he does is done without intent. Not to mention the spice 😮‍💨 i can only imagine what book 2 is going to contain.

I cannot wait to read In God’s Absence, which i am starting immediately after posting this.

LORD... MIND THE PUN

I AUDIBLY GASPED... the amount of times i was like 🫢🫨 it is literally insanity... im so shocked and this book is one of my favourite novellas of all time... i love novellas,so much & i was so blessed to be a beta reader for this for our lovely gal! & im so grateful but as always reviews are 100% honest🤭

kamerons story broke my heart,i read my agony & if you have too you'll know that kam appears in that story super briefly so the crossover of this duet is perfect.. it all makes sense!! this pretty much finishes where my agony starts sort of if that makes sense?? the character crossover is my favourite & i think what i've defintely found out is just cause a novella doesn't have much pages doesn't mean it lacks on smut... the smut is insanity,i loved it & it was crazy... lilith has my heart, she reminds me a lot of myself & her character is a really great look into a catholic faith and how she is a 'sinner' so it really wraps around that and how the perception of the faith can be warped, the ending truly had me shocked and honestly i didn't expect the twists that came my way... the twists were twisting & the smut was smutting, kam is such a beautiful character and i knew reading my agony that he would have more depth to him and i was right,he has so much depth and it is incredible to learn there is more to him what's on the surface and because of that i was so drawn to him in my agony!! there is so much plot & some delicious smut in such a short story, i devoured the entire story in one sitting & is easily ♾️⭐️ tier for me!!!

i could keep rambling hehe but as my reviews are, just a brain dump and it is truly fresh from my heart so he is the true feelings post read.. dear me,good god, lord have mercy... aren't my puns cool?🥹🤣

quotes??? "you saved me. call it stockholm syndrome, call it fate. but being in your presence feels holy"
"beg for it,Lilith"
"if i die and your heaven is real i'll be sure to leg every man know who went through death row know they wasted their last meal by not having you"

characters?? 5⭐️ love lilith and kam's story,so much!

plot?? 5⭐️ plot is absoultely delicious and so plot heavy with so much detail!!!

smut?? 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ honestly this smut is delicious! not super dark or not tolerable at all! which i love, super easy and delicious to read!!!

overall?? ♾️⭐️ already on the re-read list!!!!!!!!

I'm giving 3 stars because I enjoyed it, but it was honestly just ok.

There was not nearly enough Lilith/Kameron, and I feel like I wasted a lot of time learning about Elijah, just to hate him and he get as much time as Kameron, who I barely knew until about 75% in when he starts taking advantage of Lilith in her fragile state. Which also didn't really make sense to her situation. If she is such a fighter, why turn to religious psychosis when put in jeopardy? That is not in line with her character, it turns her from a tough smart girl to a sex craved prisoner seeing angels? Even Leah didn't act like a grieving pregnant wife and instead doted on a fully capable Lilith.

It's a story that should have been longer than 160 pages to get any real depth to what's unfolding. It all seemed too surface level and not enough emotional connection between anyone was had.

That being said I will be reading the next book. The potential is there and I really did enjoy the story. I hope more comes together in the next book!

ARC Review

•”had you been a good little child of God, you wouldn’t be in this mess”•

Lilith is working in The Garden, a catholic rehabilitation center.
When her brother dies in an accident, she start to question if the accident maybe weren’t an accident at all.
But when she starts to dive deeper into her suspicion, some people start to notice.

It’s a fast paced Novella, and even tho it’s only 100 pages long, Emma still managed to put so much plot and character development in there.
Oh and Kameron? Yes please 🤭
Can’t wait to go to The Garden again.

Forgive me father for i am a dirty little sinner, reading dirty little books😈

Can I just say...YES PLEASE!🥵 this was such a masterpiece of a story, the plotline was so well done and I loved the (Un)Religious aspect of it all, as someone with a lot of Religious Trauma i truly enjoyed this book! O.D Emma spoke candidly about Religious hypocrisy and did it justice. The Spice was so dark and delectable I was entranced the whole way through! I just loved Kamerons back story, seeing the personal trauma he went through and what kind of person that made him into was so tragic to see, it definitely had me rooting for him! And little  Naive Lilith has a whole lot in store for her. And the ending OH THE ENDING i need more! I need to know what happens next for these characters, because their story if far from over!

Meh...just meh

The premise was interesting. Hitman x Target/ Secret experiment place/ religion ... lots of things that could have been very intriguing but just fell flat for me.

I didn't connect with any of the characters. Nothing really drew me in or made me excited to continue reading.

This one just wasn't for me 🤷‍♀️

“If I die and your heaven is real, I’ll be sure to let every man who went through death row know they wasted their last meal by not having you.” 🥵🥵🥵

Kameron was just THAT MAN. I loved the enemies to lovers aspect of the book and I also felt that the other MMC Elijah played well in his role of Lilith’s corruption. I loved the mystery behind what was going on and I think this novella paints a beautiful picture of corruption in the church and faith. It was wild to see Lilith lose her sanity by the end because she was so brainwashed and the spice was definitely spicin’ !!!

I cannot wait to see what happens in her next book “In God’s Absence” 😍

Thank you for giving me an arc copy!
I had more expectations in this one when I read the blurb, but I think the book wasn't for me. Not because of the triggers or tropes but because of how many things were lacking in it. It had the potential, which it didn't meet. FMC was irritating so many times. Kameron was just fine, nothing very special about him.
Though the last pages were shocking, when the plot twist came out.

Oh my god. This book is honestly so good and so wonderful. It perfectly describes the hypocrisy of the church and everything wrong with it. Kameron is honestly one of my favorite characters now and I'm hoping we get to see more of him in the second book.

Blurb: Lilith is a god-fearing Christian woman who works for The Garden, a rehabilitation center for sinners and the addicted when her brother dies. Things only get more difficult when she thinks that the center is to blame. She is set on uncovering the truth and someone is set on making sure she never uncovers the truth.

🩸 morally black
🩸 drugging
🩸 smex is a coping mechanism
🩸 hitman / target
🩸 religious blasphemy

My first book of 2025 🖤

𝙸𝚗 𝙶𝚘𝚍'𝚜 𝙽𝚊𝚖𝚎 has HEAVY religious themes so please be mindful of your triggers. As someone who has firsthand experience with the damages of purity culture, this book was a must read for me.

Super intense from the start and I’m pretty sure I was having an out of body experience towards the end because the writing was that good. I was in the story 🫠

It was all things dark and gritty 😈

Thank you @o.d.emma for the opportunity to devour this 🖤

Verdict:A hauntingly captivating tale that explores trauma, religious hypocrisy, and forbidden desires with a depth that lingers long after the last page is turned. Dark, twisted, and utterly unforgettable.

Spice Level:
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (5/5 *Beware, it’s hot enough to scorch the soul*)

Warning: This story doesn’t shy away from the intense, sinful, and deeply passionate moments that will leave you breathless. Dark spice, both in plot and in passion, lingers in every chapter. You’ve been warned—proceed at your own risk.

Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned in the darkest corners of my mind, devouring forbidden tomes with a hunger only the damned understand. And yet, I must confess, this tale was nothing short of divine. A masterpiece that ensnared my very soul. The plot unfolded with such exquisite intricacy, and I was utterly captivated by the subtle, yet biting, exploration of the (un)holy realms. As someone haunted by the specters of religious trauma, I found solace in Emma's unflinching examination of hypocrisy—she spoke truths that set my heart ablaze. The spice within these pages was a dark nectar, so rich, so intoxicating, I couldn't pull myself from its grasp.

Kameron... Oh, Kameron. His tragic backstory gripped me in ways I did not expect. To witness his suffering, to feel the weight of his burdens, was to know him as a creature forged in the deepest fires of pain. It was impossible not to root for him as he navigated the wreckage of his past. And sweet, naive Lilith, blissfully unaware of the storm brewing around her—she is on the precipice of something far darker than she could ever imagine.

And that ending... that infernal, soul-shattering ending. I am not at peace. I am consumed by the need to know what comes next, for these characters are far from finished, and their story is far from its final chapter.

In God’s Name by O.D. Emma is a gripping and thought-provoking thriller that dives deep into themes of faith, power, and morality. From the very first page, the book establishes a tense, immersive atmosphere, drawing readers into a world where secrets run deep, and the line between righteousness and corruption is dangerously blurred.

Emma’s writing is sharp and evocative, painting vivid scenes that make you feel like you’re right there alongside the characters. The story follows a protagonist who finds themselves entangled in a dangerous conspiracy, one that challenges everything they thought they knew about faith and justice. The pacing is well-balanced, blending intense action sequences with quieter, more introspective moments that add depth to the narrative.

One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its character work. The protagonist is compelling, with a rich internal conflict that makes their journey all the more engaging. The supporting cast is equally intriguing, each character adding layers of complexity to the story. However, at times, certain characters felt underdeveloped, and some of their motivations could have been explored more deeply.

While the book delivers plenty of twists and moments of suspense, some plot developments feel slightly predictable, and there are points where the story slows down more than necessary. Despite this, Emma’s ability to weave together mystery, philosophical questions, and high-stakes drama keeps the reader invested until the very last page.

Overall, In God’s Name is a compelling read that combines thriller elements with deeper moral and ethical dilemmas. O.D. Emma has crafted a story that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, making it a must-read for fans of suspenseful, layered storytelling.

In Gods Name is a short read, i finished this in one sitting. But don’t let its shortness fool you. It packs a punch and keeps you gripped. It has a lot to say in its 100 pages.

The plot for this story follows the aptly named Lilith, a religious lady who works for a treatment centre named ‘the garden’, her life is turned upside down when her brother is killed. All is not what it seems, and Lilith quickly becomes aware of that fact. She’s a great character, who is really well written. We often see her struggling with the idea of ‘Sin’ and what is and isn’t right in the eyes of her god.

The MMC Kamron, a trained killer, has spent his life trying to please others, trying to find a way out of his killer lifestyle. His character intrigued me the most about this book. You learn about him quite quickly, and the book unpacks his trauma in a very skilful way.

The relationship between our FMC and MMC also really intrigued me, I feel there could be a lot more to unpack between them, I feel like Lillth could become a huge baddie. I feel like they could become more without spoiling anything. I want hard cold revenge for them, BOTH.

I can’t wait to read more of this story since this is the first part of a duet. Its topics are heavily religious based, and these things just make my blood pump harder, as you should all know by now just how anti... “that”, I am. I will sit patiently waiting for more, and I really, really can’t wait for more, I’m looking forward to seeing how this all unfolds.

This is a dark romance with a hitman MMC/target FMC. She has religious trauma and works at an addiction recovery facilty, run by corrupt people. When her brother is unalived by the MMC she gets caught in the web and quickly becomes a target. MMC is obsessed with her so he has to make a decision: can he go through his plan, or can he save her?

Let me start by saying that if you have religious trauma or grew up religious, this novella could be triggering. There is a lot of talk about guilt, especially after having smex. Other triggers might include:

Unåliving
Explicit smex
Chïld abüse/SA

Cliffhanger? Yes. Next installment comes out soon, though!

Spice level: 🌶🌶🌶🌶/5 considering it's a novella. If the smex scenes would have been the same amount and the story was longer, then I would not give it 4 chilli peppers, I would've done 3.5.

What I loved:

I thought the names were a nice touch. Each character has a biblical name.

The spice level was great for being a novella. Spice is perfectly women with the plot. I do love smut, but I also want a plot, so this hit the spot.

What I didn't like: Not related to the story, so that is why I didn't take away a star. I don't think it's fair if I'm not sure were the mistakes came from. There are a lot of mistakes and weird spacing in the Kindle version. So, again, I don't know how that works, maybe it's an uploading issue and not the author's fault.

God, I really wanted to like this book. I had seen really good things about this book, and the cover is stunning!
However, this book didn’t land with me. I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters, because it felt like we didn’t get a chance to fully explore the complexities of their personalities and backstories. I got a little bit of a glimpse into Kameron’s life, and although it was heartbreaking, I felt like there was more that we really needed to learn about him. It was quick to give us a glimpse into his life, hardships and trauma, but I wanted to dive deeper, honestly with all of them, I wanted to dive deeper. For awhile, I did actually like Lilith and Elijah, but I think there was too much story packed into this novella that it was hard for their character to develop organically to their unfortunate circumstances, so it was hard for me to get behind the way that they responded towards the middle and the end parts of the book.
I had a little bit of a hard time understanding the underlying plot with The Garden and all of their dark and evil secrets that was corrupting the system from the very start. I think I got most of it, but I just think it wasn’t clear to me about their underlying motivations or how deep that the corruption and power went into this way of life. It was definitely a tense atmosphere throughout the book which felt very aligned, but unfortunately, I don’t think that this book was for me.

I cracked open In God’s Name by O. D. Emma thinking, “Okay, let’s see what this is about.”
And then... BOOM.

Suddenly it was three hours later, my coffee was cold, my spine hurt from sitting weird, and the book was finished. I devoured it like a girl possessed. No crumbs. No regrets.

The world-building?
Gorgeous. Dark. Twisty. Made me feel like I was peeking behind the curtain into something forbidden.
The pacing?
FAST. Like, zero filler, straight to the good stuff. Chef’s kiss.

But if we’re being honest (and when am I not?), I wasn’t completely feral losing-my-mind obsessed.

I enjoyed it a lot — a solid, easy 4 stars — but I wanted more from Lilith. I wanted her to fully let go, to go full-on holy rage mode, to throw metaphorical (and literal) tables, to set the world on fire. She was almost there, but not quite. I needed her to make me feel like I was standing too close to something dangerous — and instead I was just comfortably warm.

Am I still foaming at the mouth waiting for Book 2?
Absolutely.

Catch me front row, popcorn in hand, chanting "Unleash her!" when the sequel drops.

“Lilith Jones is like my own personal brand of heroin. No matter how life ruining it would be to be with her, she’s become all I crave.” -Elijah.

“She is mine. Mine to enjoy, mine to touch, mine to fuck, and in the end she will be mine to kill.” - Kameron.

This was dark, twisted, and divinely sinful. I absolutely DEVOURED this book. It’s a short read and part one of The Damnation Duet, it does end on a cliffhanger and holy(pun intended)shit was it a cliffhanger 🤯😭

The book follows Lilith, a woman in a world where evilness is disguised as faithfulness. Her brother is killed in a car “accident” shortly after she begins to dig into what actually happened. Uncovering secrets and learning the Garden isn’t what it seems puts her in Kameron’s web. Kameron, hired to take her out quickly becomes obsessed with her and flips her world upside down.

Let me tell you, the spice was spicing baby. 🥵🌶️ With religious and cult undertones, this is a gritty, dark romance. We have hitman/target, love triangle, brainwashing, and one of my favorites, Stockholm Syndrome. I absolutely can’t wait for what’s to come in the second part of this duet.

Just a girl who’s trying to live by God, who’s essentially being brainwashed. And her devil himself calls her his “little sinner” 😈

“Dressed like this, she looks dangerous and forbidden, but underneath that mask she wears is just a little girl who still believes in fairy tales. I’m no saint, and I know she deserves better but that doesn’t make the need to have her any less.”

Quick read, but oh so good!! I loved how dark it was!

I’m rating it 4 stars because I really wanted to read more about Elijah!! He’s the reason Lilith got into all of this mess, and he realizes he may have feelings for her once it’s too late.

But he ends up back in the same place as her. Does he not speak to her at all at that point? Is he trying to help her in The Garden, or is he turning out to be just like Apollyon? Questions that need answers!!

But the cliffhanger… SO GOOD!!
Hopefully we get those answers in book two! Or maybe Lilith’s devil in disguise makes such a scene that we don’t need to care about Elijah anymore. 🤔

“You’re a sinner just like the rest of them”
“You were the fly, my sweet Lilith. And the spider has caught you.”
“Had you been a good little child of God, you wouldn’t be in this mess”

Fast and easy-to-read novella with religious themes and corruption.

The FMC, Lilith, is an interesting and strong character. She finds herself in a difficult situation while trying to uncover the truth about what happened to her brother. The MMC, Kameron, on the other hand, has multiple layers, and his story turned out to be sadder than I initially thought. I would love to learn more about him and his past in the future.

There were several plot twists I didn’t see coming. I’m not religious and honestly don’t know much about religions, but it was interesting to see some of the warped faith and hypocrisy.

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. Receiving ARC didn’t affect my opinion of the book.

I have no idea where to start this book was written beautifully!! I have not been able to stop thinking about it 🙂‍↕️ When you expect it to go one way it went the complete opposite I was gasping with every turn of a page😭 The characters were so well written you won’t know if you love them or hate them maybe even both. The story gets your attention and won’t let you go until you need more 😏 this is a must read I’m absolutely obsessed with anything O.D. Writes😩

Lilith went through so much but her angel will save her.
“ anything for you my angel “

Kameron needs to find his little sinner.
“ She is mine. Mine to enjoy, mine to touch, mine to fuck, and in the end she will be mine to kill. “

Elijah needs her as much and he wants to be heir.

As someone who’s gone through religious trauma, I deeply appreciate finding novels that explore how religion can both be a source of comfort but more importantly, expose its corruption and how it can be deleterious for its faithful. This novel, while yes it’s short, packs with so much in its precision and depth. I particularly like how the author uses the names of some of the most controversial figures of Christianity, Lilith, giving her a voice and agency when for thousands of years she was a figure much maligned. Lilith exploring her sexuality and not being ashamed of it, Kameron’s history as well as Elijah’s background all give such dimensions to the story’s overall messages of exposing and breaking free from religion when it no longer serves you but serves power. When faith only breeds sheep and will punish those who merely question. Can’t wait for the sequel!

I started it out of curiosity and couldn't stop. I really just ate that story up. I was SO intrigued by the storyline! I kept wondering where is it going, what's happening!? 😮‍💨 Bad idea to have read a good part during my work break I couldn't focus after lol!

The pace was perfect, it's very fast, no filler, straight to where we need to be 🤌🏼 The world building was very good as well. It was dark and twisty, just as the characters. They are all just not okay 😩 and I loved it!

I recommend for my dark romance besties, who wants a quick twisted book with an amazing pace and morally dark characters!

I'm so excited for the second book in this duet, with that cliffhanger! 🤭

I am obsessed with everything O.D Emma writes! Devoured this sinful novella in record time. But ma’am can we talk about that ending?!? Ima need more! Seriously though, I loved every second of this.
Lilith- the devoted catholic working for The Garden (catholic rehab center). Her brother dies unexpectedly in a tragic accident, but is it an accident? As she digs deeper, the people responsible begin to notice.

Kameron- the orphan who lost his parents at a young age, forced into the hands of a horrific man. Said man turns him into a hitman to do his dirty work but his next target happens to be none other than Lilith. He starts to feel things he has never felt for anyone before.
What happens between them is depraved and spicily sinful in the best ways.

So much potential

First off, I immediately loved the cover and was the main reason I downloaded! I knew this was a novella when I started it so I figured there wouldn’t be much as far as a super thick plot but the way the story unfolded..I thought maybe it would turn out to be juicy. I loved it and it definitely had me hooked. The characters were well written and the story seemed to be going in a good direction but then about 70% through it just seemed rushed and it seemed to lose the story line adding holes and it didn’t really make sense. It has so much potential and you can definitely build on the ideas already here but it kinda lost me at the end. I’m interested in book 2 just because this ends on a cliffhanger and maybe it will complete the thoughts from book 1?
