Meet Robert "Red" Rushing, a man whose life journey is as unfiltered as it is inspiring. From his early days in Newark to the tight-knit streets of Fort Gaines, Georgia, Red's story is one of grit, loyalty, and transformation. "UnfilteRED" takes readers through the highs and lows that shaped him-from intense rivalries in high school and hustling in the streets to his rise as a basketball player, entrepreneur, and sports manager to elite athletes. With each chapter, Red lays bare the pivotal moments and hard-won lessons that defined his journey and his legacy.
But "UnfilteRED" isn't just about business and resilience. It's a story of love, as Red shares the inside look at his relationship with reality star Toya Johnson, navigating the challenges of building a blended family and creating a fitness movement together. Through raw honesty and powerful reflections, Red offers readers a firsthand view of what it truly means to balance the demands of family, fame, and business.
This is more than just a memoir-it's a testament to overcoming adversity, finding purpose, and building a legacy that endures. Red's journey from the streets to the spotlight is an invitation to embrace your own path, unfiltered and unapologetically.
I purchased this memoir strictly out of curiosity. I’ve seen Robert “Red” Rushing on multiple reality shows with his wife Toya Johnson-Rushing. Toya is the gorgeous reality tv star who shares a daughter with hip-hop legend Lil Wayne. Although I’ve seen Red with Toya, and even watched their wedding on YouTube, I had no idea who he was. Then I learned that in December of 2024, Red published a memoir. I ordered the book within minutes of finding out about it. When it arrived I gave it a quick flip-through. I was minimally impressed. Honestly, I expected a higher-quality product from someone with his financial resources. But I didn’t let that stand in the way of my excitement for the book. My main goal was to learn more about Red. On that front the book delivered. I learned he went from being a college baller, to a hood pharmacist, which ultimately lead to him doing time in prison. After his incarceration Red started a successful business booking flights for NBA players. One business lead to another, and in time he became the business man we see today. My favorite part of the book was learning how Red and Toya met. It was so messy😂. Typical player behavior. Here’s the tea ☕️. Ok so… Red was in Vegas with his then girlfriend. He saw Toya and her girlfriends at the bar. Red liked what he saw, went back to his hotel room with his girlfriend and picked a fight with her so he could go back to the bar to hang with Toya and her friends. Then, when it was time to leave Vegas, Red sent his girlfriend home alone so he could stay behind to be with Toya. And that’s how their story began. Messy boots🤣. I can say I accomplished my mission of learning a lot about Red. However, the writing wasn’t the best. This book definitely could have used another round of editing. Or maybe even a cowriter. I’m glad I read it. But I wouldn’t recommend it. I give it 2 1/2⭐️s out of 5.
