Two years ago, Chloe Everhart thought she’d found her perfect match in Jace Moretti. Their whirlwind fling was intense, passionate—and devastating. Without warning, Jace vanished, leaving Chloe heartbroken and furious.
Now, Jace is back, claiming he made the biggest mistake of his life by walking away. Determined to win her over, he makes a bold if he can get every dog adopted at the New Year’s adoption event, Chloe will agree to a Valentine’s Day date with him. Chloe reluctantly agrees, certain he’ll fail. But as the dogs find homes and Jace reveals a softer side, Chloe’s walls begin to crack.
Still, the scars of betrayal run deep, and trusting him again might cost more than she’s willing to give. As secrets unravel and old flames reignite, Chloe and Jace must confront the past if they have any hope of a future. Can love truly mend what betrayal broke? Or are some scars too deep to heal?
This book was NOT written by AI. I pour hours and hours of all my spare time and energy into writing, so if you don't like it, it's because you think I'm a bad writer.
Reader This is a morally grey romance with shades of darkness. The characters are flawed, their choices aren’t always noble, and the path to love is messy and filled with mistakes. If you enjoy stories with tension, emotional depth, and redemption arcs, this one’s for you. But proceed with caution—this isn’t your typical sweet romance.
Did AI write this book? It’s just so weird. Something about the dialogue isn’t quite normal human behavior. And the reactions are so extreme at times.
Chloe is ridiculous. She’s a bitch just to be a bitch. Her reaction at the end to blaming Jace and slapping his face twice is disgusting behavior. She is not a character you can like. Plus why would she buy a bakery but not know a single thing about baking since she needs to train under the 80yo baker first. It makes no sense. Wouldn’t she have already learned that from working there before!? No? She just went to college for business and figured I’ll take over the local bakery, easy decision? WTH?!
Jace is extremely gross. He’s a perverted, creepy stalker. He plants cameras in Chloe’s bedroom, he breaks into her home and masturbates all over her room. He does it while she sleeps as he hovers over her and thinks about how good it is that she’s such a heavy sleeper. And you discover he did shit like this while in HS too. I’m sorry but this is not normal or romantic or sexy. It’s fucking creepy!
The whole story was a mess as well. I ended up skimming through a bunch as it was just so bad. Jace has a mafia past and it’s suddenly caught up to him years after leaving that life. Even though he wasn’t in hiding and had been with Drake, the man his family wanted him to infiltrate. And so now his family threatens Chloe but kidnap Celeste, and it ends with Jace’s mafia family being killed, just like that. Easy peasy, it’s all over. It was so incredibly anticlimactic I don’t even understand the point of it all. Why did they kidnap Celeste? Why is Jace’s head apparently indestructible as evidenced by this: “My head crashes through the thin and weathered glass, making way for the rest of my body to fly through.” And what, he’s not cut up by going headfirst into the glass window? Um hi, real life is calling.
It’s definitely not a romance. Nor does it have a good story.
The book is bananas and not in a good way. Don’t waste your time!
