“I’ve been watching and waiting for a powerful new voice in Christian fiction, and I’ve finally found it in Blossom Turner and her new thriller, Mara – The Unseen Battle. With spiritual warfare comparable to Frank Peretti, this book was powerfully spiritual and chillingly realistic. It had everything I love in a good novel — tension throughout, great pacing, unexpected twists and turns . . . I can’t wait to read the second book in the series.” — Bestselling Author Creston Mapes

I was a huge fan of Frank Peritti's This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness back in the day, and Blossom Turner's new novel brought those excellent books to mind. Mara's heartbreaking story of growing up with a cold mother who singles her out for abuse is interspersed with the spiritual battle going on behind the scenes. As in any prolonged, intense battle, Mara's journey is tumultuous as she experiences victories and defeats in her struggle to find peace, love, and the capacity to forgive those who cause harm and pain. The novel is a great reminder that our own struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil that seek to destroy what is good in our lives and souls. This, in turn, can help us pray and view our circumstances with a deeper perspective. I look forward to reading the next installment in Turner's Victory Series!

Loved this book!! If you believe in spiritual warfare, this book is for you!!! Mara's life has been horrid. Her mother has hated her since she found out she was pregnant. Her father has loved her since he found out she was conceived. Her whole life she's known her mother hasn't loved her, didn't want her, was abused mentally and physically by her mother. Through it all, Mara has known about Jesus and God, and has continued to believe in them. She also knows there's evil spirits, too, because of her mother. This book helps us to see how the spiritual effects the physical, and how people make the choices they make. It also shows that though we don't understand God's ways, He's always there for us. If you've read This Present Darkness and liked it, you'll like this one, too!!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

Mara the Unseen Battle written by Blossom Turner is a very interesting read. It is choked full of faith and images of the unseen spiritual battle in the heavens. This book touches on child abuse as one of the main themes of course, as mentioned faith is the biggest theme; how to trust God even when we are going through things that seem horrible.
This book reminds me of C.S. Lewis’ Screwtape letters and a mashup of Cinderella. As the title of the book shows, Mara is the main female character of this book, but her mother and father play big parts as well, with her mother occupying the most developmental space in this book. Mara is the youngest of seven children and while her father loves and cherishes her, her mother, being influenced by evil demons, hates her and wishes she was never born. Mara goes through so many things and ultimately in this first book goes through an unimaginable situation that may leave anyone thinking that God does not exist.
The author cleverly uses narration that shows how God is always there for Mara, even when she is going through so many tough and harrowing situations. This reminds the reader that while God could easily intervene in bad and sometimes traumatic or fatal situations, He does not always do so. We may not understand why He would allow this, but from what we know, He is a good God, He alone is good, and He never leaves us to suffer for no reason. He is always there; if we belong to Him, He will never leave or forsake us, though we may sometimes wonder where He is.
This book starts off what seems to be slightly on the slower side, but readers quickly realize that it is not slow at all. The author ramps this story up fairly quick and from there on out, curiosity as to what will happen next, and the outcome will keep you turning until the end. I highly recommend reading this book as soon as you can.
I received a complimentary copy from the author through Celebrate Lit, for my honest opinion.

Again, Blossom writes a book "that I just couldn't put down!" It is very different from her historical romances. One minute I was sad because it's difficult to read about abuse. But the next minute I was encouraged as I saw what God was doing as the demons were being fought. I am so looking forward to Book 2! So happy you are writing it, Blossom!!

Mara The Unseen Battle, the first book in a trilogy, pulls the curtain back on the spiritual realm. We meet Mara's parents just before she is born. Her father is on the verge of being drafted for Vietnam and his wife convinces him to move the family to Canada where she is from and her parents still live. Mara is born there, the youngest of seven.

The first half of this book is very dark. Mara is abused physically, mentally, and emotionally. The demons surrounding this family have their claws dug in deep, and many scenes are discussions between the demons on how to destroy Mara. If abuse is a trigger, consider carefully whether you want to read this book.

The spiritual warfare is well done, and the influence of the angels and demons on the humans is realistic, showing up in the decisions the humans make as well as in their emotional state.

This is a serious and a powerful book. I enjoyed it and would recommend it to all. This is Christian fiction that deals with the spiritual realm and the eternal soul so expect prayer and discussions of faith as well as God speaking to Mara.

Family friendly, but not for young readers or those who struggle with the issues mentioned above.

Thanks to the author. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Mara, The unseen battle

This is a very intense story. It is a book that is hard to put down. It is a story that I wanted to talk to the characters. A story of Evil versus Good. All the characters were very well written. Mara went through so much in her young lifetime. How does she survive? Can she forgive her Mother?

This book is first in a series. I am looking forward to reading the next book.

I received an advanced copy of the book from the author. This book review is my own opinion.

This story is unlike anything I’ve ever read before and I thoroughly enjoyed it! My only disappointment was that it ended so abruptly. I wanted more! It has given me a new perspective on spiritual warfare and a deeper understanding of the importance of prayer! Looking forward to the next book in the series so I can continue to follow along with Mara’s journey.

Mara The Unseen Battle: The Victory Series Book One by Blossom Turner is one of the most powerful reads I have ever read! In Mara The Unseen Battle, Ms. Turner pulls back the curtain on the Spiritual Realm, showing readers what it could be like for a Family when Spiritual Forces are after their souls. In the 1960s/1970s and beyond Evil Forces are after the Howland Family, easily taking them over one by one—except Mara. Mara is the youngest of seven children. After Mara’s difficult birth, Mara’s mother, Martha, wants nothing to do with Mara, especially since she has had seven children in seven years. Martha has turned the children against Mara. The only people in the Family that seem to care about Mara is her Father, Jay, and her Sister, Daisy. With each day that Mara lives, Evil Forces manipulate Martha to cause harm to Mara every day. Each day while Evil Forces try to kill Mara, Jesus and His Angels are protecting Mara because God has a special plan in store for Mara. After her Father leaves and her Parents divorce, things get worse for Mara. Through the ups and downs of her life, despite it’s scars, God sends helpers and reprieves all throughout her life to remind Mara of His Love.

Mara The Unseen Battle: The Victory Series Book One by Blossom Turner is different than most things that I usually read, but I loved it and couldn’t put it down! I loved the Spiritual Realm aspect of the book! The way Ms. Turner wrote Mara The Unseen Battle and the scenes of the Demons and Angels reminded me of C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters. Mara The Unseen Battle made look at the Spiritual Realm in a different light and God used Mara’s story to shine a light on things He has been trying to teach me. I love that in most of the chapters where Mara is going through unspeakable things that God writes her a letter, Speaking over Mara, backing the letters up with a Scripture reference. I love that Ms. Turner wrote each chapter seamlessly, flowing between the Spiritual and Earthly Realms, showing Demon and Angel interactions and how what the Angels and Demons were doing in the unseen were effecting what the Howland Family was doing. I fell in love with Mara’s character the instant I realized that Martha didn’t want her and was basically turning the world against her. I love the people that God put in Mara’s path to help her get through the toughest times, teaching Mara Truth. I felt that Ms. Turner wrote Mara’s Journey brutally realistic, not holding back how hard it was to hold on to God at times, showing the Reader that the places God allows us to go are not always pleasant, but it will be a place He will get the Glory and people will be reached for Him. I can’t wait to see where God will take Mara’s journey next! I highly recommend Mara The Unseen Battle: The Victory Series Book One by Blossom Turner!

Mara's battle wasn't just her home life but a battle against the unseen, spiritual world. She suffered abuse from a young age and withstood more than anyone could handle. Just when I thought nothing else could happen, the suffering started again. Mara's abuse touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes, but then as she faced it head on with God beside her, I cheered for each victory.

The subject matter was handled well, but it gave me chills at times. There were a lot of Biblical references, which I loved seeing. The spiritual part with the demons made sense and added a lot to the storyline. Overall, it was a terrific read that made me really think after the last page was turned.

I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

An amazing story of strength!

I always enjoy Blossom Turner 's stories but this story really grabbed me. I struggled to put it down and, at the same time, struggled to keep reading because of the emotions Mara's story evoked.
I will be starting the next in the series immediately!

Riveting Read

My emotions were all over the place with this book. I was yelling at some of the characters because of their actions. Also, I felt connected to Mara and her father.

So many lessons to learn but only the strength of the Father can cause one to endure the hardship that was displayed in this book.

This book is really different from the usual books I read, and also my first Blossom Turner book. I am so very happy to have found this series! This book was sometimes hard to read, especially when I thought about how true these terrible abusive circumstances are for some people. This story was emotional and impactful and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I want to start by saying I love this author. She writes amazing historical fiction. Maybe this qualifies as pseudo historical fiction since it takes place in the 1970s but it’s also a different type of fiction. This type of fiction brings in the supernatural. It delves into the spiritual battles happening around us. Because yes I do believe that there are angels and demons fighting around us all the time vying for the souls of people. But in the end, it is still the person’s choice which voice they will listen to.

This book contains Blossom’s writing style. It flows smoothly and the characters reach out to you. You will feel like you are in the book. And yes, you will be looking over your shoulder thinking you feel the breath of a demon on you. Or at least I was.

We’re in the 1970’s. I wasn’t actually born until 1985 so I’m not sure about the authenticity of that portion but the author was so I trust that it’s all fact there. But in truth, there is more fact than fiction in the story I think. The author writes from a place of experience with the abuse. I never suffered abuse as a child. But I saw it. I felt the effects of it. And now as an adult, I fight for the little ones without a voice. I want to just love and give them all a home. Since I can’t do that I do what I can.

And maybe I need to share more about the book though!
This is a book of faith. If you have an issue with faith don’t read this novel. Or do and have your mind changed. This is also the first book in a trilogy. So, if you’re not going into it knowing that it won’t be resolved at the end you need to reframe your brain because you will be left without full resolution and yearning for the next book.

Mara is the youngest of seven children. As a mom of 13, I love seeing books with large families! They get such a bad rap. I’m not sure that this one helps the large family stereotypes but it’s still an amazing book.

Our father in the story is good. But the mother has a thing about Mara. She wishes she wasn’t born and makes no bones about it. it makes me wonder if she struggled with postpartum depression and blames Mara. And then with the evil influences it makes a lot more sense if that was the case. Because yes one small thought can turn into a huge deal.

I have to say well done to Blossom with the spiritual side of this novel. A lot of people could write a novel about the people and the hard but it takes a special person with a gift to write about spiritual warfare and to do it this well. Highly recommend and yes I will be reading the other two books.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

A fierce war is arising. A ruthless battle for the soul of Mara transpires in this unforgettable novel by Blossom Turner. Mara The Unseen Battle is a thought-provoking and riveting story that depicts the momentous strife in the spiritual realm between angels and demons for the soul of a human. A gripping story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, Mara The Unseen Battle catapults the reader on a journey with young Mara as she experiences relentless sorrow, pain, and fear within the confines of her home and family. A supernatural experience with Jesus amid her suffering, changes her life, and illustrates the mighty works of God and His incomparable wisdom to orchestrate the purposes of our lives even within the depths of evil works at play.

Mara is the youngest of seven children and born into a family with financial woes, marital problems, and a generational bloodline of rage. Her innocent arrival into the world is marked by the name her mother contemptuously chooses for her, Mara, meaning bitter. Seeking to crush her spirit and destroy her soul, Mara lives in a constant state of fear and despair at the hands of demonic forces working through her family. Despite the turmoil, God has a great purpose for Mara, whose guardian angel works to protect her from the evil forces.

“The power of light and love will always prevail over darkness”. - Mara The Unseen Battle

Mara The Unseen Battle is an exceptional story with a provocative plot that will tug at your heart strings. A sense of compassion will engulf the reader as you journey with Mara during her tumultuous young adult life. The Christian content in the story is impeccable with an abundance of biblical references, including scriptures proceeding each chapter. The theme of faith is thoroughly emphasized as characters are seen praying and tenaciously relying on the Lord for strength, wisdom, and protection. The supernatural is a significant element of the story in which readers glimpse the battle between angels and demons for human souls. I implore every believer in Jesus Christ to read this book. It will provide transformative conviction and encourage you to draw nearer to the Lord as well as increase your prayer life. Non-believers in Jesus are encouraged to read this novel, as it will amplify the truth of the fight for your soul that determines your eternal destination. I absolutely loved this novel, and I am eager to read the next book in the series.

The beginning of the book sent shivers down my spine. I was actually angry at this character who is filled with such contempt. The words coming out of her mouth about her children are like a sharp knife piercing the skin. Martha is a very unhappy woman and takes it out on an innocent child. There are sensitive subjects in the book such as child abuse. The author does a very good job of illustrating what the enemy means for harm, God uses it for good.

In the darkness is someone watching over his prey. The story delves into the world where demons wait for their next assignment. Komar has asked for a mentor to achieve more power and move forward in darkness. Who is next to be infiltrated by this demon?

I was intrigued by the name chosen for the newest member of the Howland family. Mara which means bitter is not really wanted by her mother. Mara’s father has his hands full trying to help with the children, work and try to stay on Martha’s good side. Lurking nearby is Komar. He is enjoying the misery that Martha feels. The author does a good job of showing how the enemy can capture our thoughts and turn them into hate. The enemy loves to divide a family and does everything possible to achieve that goal.

The book is about spiritual warfare and how we need to always be on guard. A strong presence of God is in this story where redemption comes. Realistic scenes of angels and demons are abundant in the story. I loved how the author shows that God is always with us. Mara experiences so much hatred yet she continues to cry out to Jesus.

Oh how I loved hearing God tell Mara how much she was loved. He reminds her that she is nothing like her mother says and comforts her. Have you ever felt unloved? God has a plan for each of us. Hold on to the truth that you are a child of God and never give up. Such a powerful story where evil tries to destroy goodness. Mara’s story is a reminder that we don’t “battle against flesh and blood but against principalities.”

I received a copy of this story from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion .

Mara: The Unseen Battle by Blossom Turner is Book One in The Victory Series. This first installment spans sixteen years in the life of the main character Mara Howland and the horrific abuse she suffers at the hands of her mother.
What sets this book apart from any other I’ve read is the depiction of the spiritual battle that affects every human being regardless of whether they believe in Satan or not. There are shades of Frank Perreti’s This Present Darkness, although Blossom’s book is more personal in nature, which keeps me drawn to the story.
Often people ask why a good God allows horrible things to happen to His children, and Blossom’s novel effectively answers this question.
While delving into Mara’s nightmare-of-a-life, the reader is privy to the battle that rages behind the scenes—forces of good and evil at play. A guardian angel who is only given what power the Father allows fighting the enemy’s minions for control over this girl’s soul.
It’s the same battle every human being must face at one time or another. Will we choose holiness, grace, and mercy or will we choose bitterness, unforgiveness, and selfish ambitions?
Mara is a very sympathetic character, and there are times this is not an easy book to read. I despise cruelty, and it’s even more heinous when it’s at the hands of someone who is supposed to protect and provide for her child.
But in Mara’s mother, we see the brokenness that allows the devil a foothold into her soul, like so many people in the world today. Maybe getting a glimpse of what occurs in the spiritual realm will give us more compassion for the lost and be better able to understand that though we may not understand the things the Lord allows into our lives, His plans and purpose are far greater than we can fathom.
This poignant and beautifully written novel is a must-read, and I look forward to delving into the next phase of Mara’s story in Book Two.

It’s hard to know where to start with this gripping story that was heart wrenching at times with a true picture of the battles each individual fights between the spiritual and demonic world today even at a very young age.

The story is centered around Mara the youngest of seven children. Her mother despised her from the start but she was the apple of her dad’s eyes. Tears were flowing with all the abuse Mara’s mother inflicted upon her along with her lying, deception to the point where dad leaves to find a better life. Rich maternal grandparents believed their daughter without even seeing the grandchildren which only brought more heart break. The twists and turns kept getting worse until Mara was fighting for her life in a hospital. The scriptures and scenes Blossom Turner created between the spiritual and demonic evils brought life to truly how one’s thoughts will influence lives. Mara felt God’s love and presence yet the abuse made it difficult to hold on, until she was sent to her dad and step-mother’s home. What a turn of events for Mara.

I was enthralled till the end rooting for Mara with a cliff hanger to this intense, true to life Christian fiction tale of a young child suffering abuse from her mother. I cannot wait to read the book two in The Victory Series by Blossom Turner. Turner truly was inspired to write this series with scriptures to give insight to readers of God’s love and everlasting presence even during the most difficult battles from evil ones.

I received an early e-copy of the book without any obligation to write a review. I have expressed my true thoughts.

Christian Suspense is a favorite genre of mine. I have also been a FAN of Blossom Turner for quite a few years. Mara The Unseen Battle by Blossom Turner is the latest in the Christian Suspense genre that I have read. It is Book 1 in The Victory Series.

WOW, I am HOOKED on this series from the very beginning. The main Character in this book is Mara Howland and the setting is 1970's Small Town Canada. My heart was breaking for Mara as the story unfolds. Her own mother has put Mara through years of Physical Abuse, as her mother never really wanted Mara to be born. Mara knew she needed to be truthful with herself if she wanted to continue living. I really appreciate how the story takes a turn that is heartwarming for Mara. The Spiritual Warfare Battle and overcoming the hurt and abuse from her Mother was a huge step for Mara. The book is one of Forgiveness, Spiritual Battles, following God's plan and not our own. I am already excited and anxiously awaiting Book 2 in this series! I would say this is MUST Read for those who enjoy Christian Suspense! FANTASTIC BOOK!

Mara The Unseen Battle stars off The Victory series from Blossom Turner. It is an interesting read with Mara living during the 1970s Canada. It is a mixture of intrigue, faith, mystery, spiritual, and suspense. It is one of those books where I felt a connection with a character that made me want to cry for what they are going through. Just when I was getting hooked and wanted to keep reading on, there was a cliffhanger. I have got to know more of Mara's story.

I am giving Mara The Unseen Battle five stars. Fans of clean mystery and suspense will not want to pass up on picking it up for themselves. I am curious to see what Blossom Turner has in store The Victory series and what happens next with Mara in the second installment.

I received a digital copy of Blossom Turner's Mara The Unseen Battle from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Do you ever wonder what goes on in the spiritual realm? With intrigue and intensity Blossom Turner invites you behind the curtain of the unseen spiritual battles. Blossom brings demons and angels to life and reminds me once again how the power of prayer can bring either goodness or destruction.

Mara will grip your heart with love and empathy as Blossom gives us images of a beautiful soul being ravaged with unjustified motherly abuse. At times you want to weep for Mara but thankfully there are always glimpses of hope as a father’s prayer shifts the hounds of the supernatural. I'm happy there is a second book.
Blossom Turner’s writing style will draw you in. Her dialogue is picturesque, inviting and always compelling you to turn the page. Life is complicated and sometimes ugly and I am grateful for the spiritual focus of this book. Thank you Blossom for sharing your gift of words.

I really enjoyed reading this book. But, I admit feeling a little sadness at times while reading certain scenes. this book deals a lot with really cruel violence and child abuse at first I wasn't sure I was gonna like this book because I thought it was going to be Not Christian at all, but it ends being a Christian novel. This book deals with a temper, murder, death, abandonment, divorce.
my first thought on reading the last word was oh no I want to read more so I am now eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. I really don't understand how there could be such cruel people in the world, but I know there is. This is a tale of evil vs righteous. this tale could've happened and probably has happened somewhere in the world. I recommend this book to all readers unless you are a victim of abuse and then I must warn you, It is a big trigger.

Whenever I pick up a book by Blossom Turner, I know I will enjoy it. "Mara: The Unseen Battle", the first book in The Victory Series, met my expectations. This Christian suspense novel will keep you reading.

This gripping tale includes people, angels, God, Jesus, and demons. Set in the 1970s and 1980s, this book centers around Mara, a young girl despised by her mother but loved by God and Jesus.

The author does an excellent job of building a story illustrating the battle between good and evil. You will experience twists and turns along with a range of emotions. Once I began reading this book, I could not put it down.

As the first book in The Victory Series, I look forward to the next book.

So, if you are looking for a Christian Suspense novel, check out Mara: The Unseen Battle, the first book in Blossom Turner’s The Victory Series.

Turner has taken her writing and storytelling to a new level with this book. This book has the best suspense and is packed with so much! There's spiritual warfare in this story, like there is in real life. Mara deals with real-life topics that include emotional and mental abuse and the very war for her soul that's happening all around her. Martha isn't a nice person. She's not a good mother, to put that very mildly. While Martha has her own demons and issues, but they have not stayed contained. Mara's story isn't without faith or love, but it's a journey through pain and sorrow to love and healing. I would encourage any reader who might be shy about the battles that Mara is facing to not hesitate to read this. Everyone who hasn't endured this knows at least one person who has. I found this book to be healing, and I'm excited about the rest of the series.

Thanks to Celebrate Lit for my digital copy of this book. This review is my own. A positive review is never required.

The dedication grips your heart right off the bat. Then the verse from Ephesians about spiritual warfare and how we don’t fight against flesh and blood sets you up for what this book is about.

Without giving a lot away, there are some content warnings you may want to know about ahead of time. These are: child abuse, suicide attempt, violence, and adultery. The first half of the book was difficult for me to read because of this (also doesn’t help that my daughter’s name is Marah!) and I thought about quitting but I pressed on. I am glad I did. The portrayal of the forces of evil was done very well and reminds me of another book I’ve read. One of my favorite parts of the book was the using of scripture for prayer. I enjoyed how the characters really evolve and the end of the book leaves you with such hope! Looking forward to book two!

I received an ARC copy of this book. All opinions and ideas expressed are my own. A positive review is never required.
