The year is 1958. And U.S. Air Force pilot Rayne Weston is secretly recruited to the Central Intelligence Agency. Here he lives in the shadowy world of “the agency” as he flies U-2 spy plane reconnaissance missions at an unheard of ceiling of 70,000 feet. Truly he resides in two worlds. One where people know him as a good old boy from Texas. And another where no one even knows his real last name. To say the least, it is not the ideal situation for a person to fall in love. Yet he does just that when he meets country blues singer Darla Darling (yes that’s her real name) through his Uncle Mick and Cowboy Larson—two famous Delta blues guitarists. Filled with history, music, passion and intrigue, this is a story of two lovers chasing their dreams in two very different directions, only to find that love guides them right into each others arms.

I received a copy for review purposes. All opinions are honest and mine alone.
Book four in the Winds of Change series, it’s been 7 years since the last installment was released in this saga about the McLaren family from Dallas, Texas.
The year is 1958. Mick and Cowboy are country music legends who have waned and are experiencing financial stress. Mick has a stalker that’s complicating life for everyone. They desperately need a new hit, a new album, a new infusion of luck to pay off debt and support all the folks depending on them.
In my opinion, that’s the primary story in DELTA COUNTY BLUES. The publisher blurb focuses on a young military pilot turned CIA Agent recruit named Rayne and his love interest, Darla Darling. The first chapter is Rayne’s but much of the content is about Cowboy and Mick. Darla, Margaret, Mick’s wife)and Cowboy are the other three voices that alternate as chapter headings to tell the story, mostly by way of dialogue. Rayne and Darla’s relationship is secondary and there’s a third relationship that was very interesting but not well developed.
Most of the 50 chapters is very short allowing the book to be read in small chunks or longer stretches as your time permits. Author, G. H. Popp, uses clean language and refrains from descriptive sexual content. Holding hands, hugs and kisses are the extent of the action, altho’ there is out of wedlock activity “off screen”, so to speak.
Good time period elements, simple country music and large friends and family relationships. It was a nice visit to the good old days when people rallied around each other in tough times and put feet to their words of care📚

Who doesn’t want to love a cowboy with a sexy name, a great body, kind of moody, wicked smart, going places or wanting to settle down after a past full of excitement. He was fine with people not knowing his name. Darla certainly wasn’t looking to find love and settle down. She wanted to write songs that she would hear people singing on the radio. She wanted her name to be known. Could they fall in love? What gets in their way; maybe their differences, or more likely, what makes them similar also makes them feisty. A good romance novel; easy to read, not a ton of characters muddying the love ❤️

A beautifully written blend of history, music, and emotion. The story pulls you into the intrigue of the Cold War while delivering a heartfelt romance that feels authentic and deeply human. Rich atmosphere, compelling characters, and a narrative that flows effortlessly. An engaging and memorable read.
Set in 1958, this tale of love and intrigue is full of twists and turns. The romance between Rayne and Darla touched me deeply. Fast read. Once I picked it up, it was hard to put down. Highly recommend.
