The agrarian policies of fascism have never before been studied from a comparative perspective. This volume offers an up-to-date overview, as well as new insights drawn from eight case-studies on Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Germany, Austria, Spain, Japan and Vichy France. The consensus that emerges from them is that the agricultural and rural policies of fascist regimes tended towards modernization and that many of them resembled initiatives pursued in the post-war decades and the Green Revolution, When viewed in this perspective, the fascist era appears less as an aberration and more as an integral part in the global process of agrarian "modernization," a process whose merits are now being called into question.

Lourenzo Fernández Prieto (A Devesa-Ribadeo, 1961) es Catedrático de Historia Contemporánea de la Universidad de Santiago de Compostela desde 2005. Fué Vicerrector de relaciones institucionales de la USC entre 2007 y 2010 y Director del Departamento de Historia Contemporánea y de América de la USC hasta 2016. Dirigió diferentes trabajos de investigación relacionados con la construción de la modernidad en Galicia, el mundo rural y la guerra civil. Es miembro del consejo de redacción de diferentes revistas de investigación histórica y participó en numerosos congresos y coloquios de la especialidad. Además, dirige el Proyecto Interuniversitario “Nomes e Voces”, dedicado a la investigación de la represión franquista en Galicia.
