OBSESSION TAKES NO PRISONERS A soldier searching for redemption. A man addicted to control. And the woman caught between them…
Ean Shephard knows trouble when he sees it and Olive Creed is the kind of trouble that can burn his whole world down. As Collin Creed’s baby sister, she’s completely off-limits. But her quiet strength, combined with her sad vulnerability, keeps pulling him closer. Shep came to Edge Security to escape his past, but falling for Olive could ruin his second chance and the fragile peace he’s fought so hard to find.
Brose Sinclair has always played the long game. He and Olive are more than just partners inside the shadow organization they both work for, they’re lovers. His absolute authority keeps her on track and Olive likes it that way. But her sudden attraction to their target threatens everything they’ve worked for and for the first time, Brose finds himself questioning whether control is enough to keep Olive by his side.
Olive Creed has spent her life learning to play her role perfectly. She can’t afford to mess up. Not with Brose watching her every move, looking for mistakes. Mistakes she sometimes makes on purpose just to spur on his titillating punishment. But as she starts to fall for her target and her world begins to crumble beneath her feet, Olive finds herself wondering—which one of these two men would truly be there in her darkest hour?
Brose—the one who owns her mind?
Or Shep—the one who wants her heart?
The Danger in the Damaged is a battlefield of betrayal and control, where loyalty is a weapon and obsession takes no prisoners. It’s a best-friend’s-little-sister romance caught in the crossfireof dark secrets and mind games—and this time, Collin Creed isn’t the one calling the shots.

J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.
After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.
So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.
She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.
Wow, I devoured this book in one sitting today. The suspense kept me constantly on edge and left me unsure as to where the story would take me.
I’m enjoying the overarching plot between books, with the secondary characters providing an ongoing update on couples and characters introduced in earlier books.
This was definitely a darker read with the villains starting to unsettle me with each new play they orchestrate.
My take on the main characters:
~Olive was interesting and intriguing ~Shep won me over ~Brose had me squirming
I’m loving this series so far and can’t wait to read the next book.
I read the EoBS a few hours after finishing and it certainly gave me food for thought. In response to Julie’s question as to which setting am I hoping to see featured next, I am gingerly going to say I trust you to make that call!
Julie is one of fav authors of all time! She once again delivered another amazing story.
I kind of don’t think Julie’s brain believes in our century with the way she can make up a whole different universe that can co-exist within our current one, but here we are and I for one am so glad that I have found myself so grateful to have made my way to this author!!!
Julie has an amazing talent to bring a whole new world in her writing and she delivers yet again with this story!
This book left me a little confused but it sounds like I will get answers soon enough as I head into the tail end of 2025. I am in love with Shep as a new character in this series. And even Olive even though she is supposed to be the “villain”. I’m rose was very interesting to me; but he felt so sterile or generic to me for some reason. Even though he had so many sides to him everything felt just sterile or scripted. Nothing felt really genuine. I kind of understand now that I read the ending; and I look forward to seeing more of him in the future books!!
Referring to the EOBS question I want to learn more about the bikers of trinity county! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! It would be fun if they all had Stike Bikes as well and that would be the ONLY correlation (Easter egg sort of thing) #IYKYK. I think JA would do this town so much justice; and I have been so excited to hear more about this town since the first book of this series!
Mind Control & Psyop Trickery Ean Shephard (MMC#1) Shep is a 20 year old convict, just released from prison after Charlie Beaufort got him out of and assigned him to a contract with Edge Security, owned by Collin Creed, for the next 12 months he will be owned by Edge. Shep is actually part of CORE and was a Deep Recon Specialist (DRS) agent, until he went rogue. He knows that CORE messed with his mind, but has difficulty really remembering anything in clarity.
Shep stumbles across a bar in the middle of nowhere (not by chance) and he meets Olive Creed (MFC) here and knows instantly that she’s trouble and even though he’s attracted to her, he knows he needs to get out of this so called bar and far away from Olive.
Olive is Collin Creed’s baby sister, she was recruited by CORE at age 8 1/2 years old and now she’s 20 years old and a SIO 2.0 agent with CORE and a test subject. She’s being used herself, by CORE, against Collin Creed and Edge Security, she just doesn’t know it.
Amon & Collin know that something is very wrong with Olive showing up to Edge Security out of nowhere and deliberately trying to attach herself to Shep, they just don’t have all the pieces of this massive mind f**kery that is going on.
Hmmm, I’m not sure what the hell I’ve read here, it’s not romance, but it has a lot of smexy scenes in it, there’s definitely attraction to Olive from Shep and Ambrose Sinclair “Brose” (mmc#2), Olive’s CORE handler. They are all puppets of CORE and JA Huss left the story off in a place where, she says that she is giving us readers our hea, well possibly Shep and Olive, but I have so many questions about all of this and are Shep and Olive together or just roommates living in the Edge Security compound?
Anyway, I need more answers to this ScyFy story that Ms.Huss has given us without warning and no, I am not a ScyFy reader, at least I don’t think so, but this is a good story and I need to know what the heck is going on!!
The author asked us readers where we would like to see the story go for after book 6 and I am definitely going to say that I Need her to take us to Revenant with all the biker’s! I also really need more of Collin and Lowyn 💕
Format: Audiobook Spice Level: Off the charts — full-blown dominance, psychological control, obsession, and twisted love.
Genres/Tropes: Dark Romance Enemies to Lovers Best Friend’s Sister Power Dynamics Forbidden Love Dark Protector Forced Proximity Possessive Love Morally Gray Characters Damaged Heroes Redemption Arc
I was so excited when I saw the announcement for this book on JA Huss’s Instagram. The second it dropped, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. And when it dropped? I inhaled that audiobook like air.
This story is a psychological mindfuck masterpiece, and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s twisted, sexy, manipulative, and addictive. And true to Huss's style, it leaves your brain spinning, your jaw on the floor, and your heart breaking all at once.
Summary: A soldier searching for redemption. A man addicted to control. And the woman caught between them… Ean Shephard (Shep) comes to Edge Security for a clean slate, but Olive Creed—his best friend’s little sister and very much off-limits—derails every ounce of peace he’s built. With her sad eyes, quiet strength, and dangerous allure, she begins to chip away at his defenses. But Olive isn’t just some girl in distress. She’s a trained Silent Intelligence Operative who’s been groomed her entire life to serve. Her handler? Brose Sinclair—a man who owns her mind and her body. Together, they work under the covert CORE organization. And Olive is caught between two powerful men: the one who thinks for her and the one who wants her to think for herself. As power plays, emotional warfare, and forbidden connections rise, Olive must choose—does she follow the voice in her head or the pounding in her heart?
What I Loved:
✔ The power dynamics. The twisted control Brose has over Olive is so darkly fascinating and utterly disturbing, yet it’s written so well that you understand why she clings to him… even when it hurts her.
✔ “I spend every moment of my day with this man. We work together, we live together, we sleep together. This is what it means to be handled. My mission is you and your mission is me.”
✔ “God, she’s so fucking beautiful, I almost can’t stand it. Everything about this girl is perfect. And my job here—to handle her—well, it’s like a dream come true. I handle her all right. Every fucking night I’ve got my dick between her legs.”
✔ Multi-layered characters—no one is truly good or evil
✔ The spice. HOLY SHIT. The sex scenes between Olive and Brose are some of the most intense, dominant, and darkly erotic I’ve read in a while. The control, the emotional entanglement, the psychological bondage—chef’s kiss.
✔ “He thinks for me, I act for him. He thinks for me, I act for him. He thinks for me.”
✔ “You think for me, I act for you.” “Say it again.” “You think for me, I act for you.” “Again.” “You think for me, I act for you.”
✔ Character psychology: Brose isn’t just the villain. He’s a victim too. That second epilogue broke me. The hints about his past, the memory wipes, the abuse by his grandfather... I NEED HIS STORY.
✔ "The only thing is, I’m not sure who I am in the silence." This lines gave me chills. The level of psychological conditioning Olive endures is gut-wrenching and hauntingly beautiful.
✔ This entire world — CORE, Edge, Silent Operatives, mind control, training, trauma, loyalty, identity — it’s all a PSYOP within a PSYOP. Every page is layered. You feel just as manipulated as the characters. And somehow that makes it hotter?? JA Huss really said let’s destroy the concept of free will and make it erotic.
✔ The writing. This book makes you feel like you’re being manipulated alongside the characters. You can’t tell what’s real, who’s in control, or what memories are true. And it’s SO GOOD.
What Confused Me / What I’m Still Processing:
• I was confused in the beginning—Olive felt like a robot sometimes and it took a bit to fully understand the brainwashing and structure of CORE
• Is this a reverse harem or is it just a triangle? It felt like Brose and Shep could both stay in her orbit. But then things shift and twist so much, I still don’t know what’s what. I feel like they don’t even know.
• That whole bit about Olive being taken into CORE at 8.5 after her real father was shot by Collin? Wtf? Traumatized since childhood and then handed over to Brose at 18 to be “trained” and handled?? THE LAYERS OF TRAUMA.
• The layers in this book are insane. Brose is Olive’s handler. His grandfather is his handler. Olive is Shep’s handler. Like??? Excuse me? My brain was melting. But in a good way.
• The epilogue from Shep’s POV? So soft. The second one with Brose? So devastating. And that ending reveal that his new partner is Hattie from Blackberry Hill? NO. NOOOO. YOU CAN’T LEAVE ME LIKE THIS JA HUSS I’M BEGGING YOU.
• THE ENDING. Not enough closure. I need more books. I need answers. I NEED THERAPY.
This series has me in a chokehold. I don’t know what kind of magic JA Huss is working with, but I am fully under. The control, the spice, the trauma, the slow unraveling of sanity—it’s everything I crave in a dark romance.
And if I don’t get the next book soon, I might just spiral. Seriously. JA HUSS, I AM BEGGING YOU: MORE. NOW. PLEASE.
If you're not into dark romance, twisted power dynamics, heavy psychological themes, or morally gray everything — run. This isn’t the kind of book you casually enjoy. This book consumes you. But if you like your fiction intense, unhinged, and erotically disturbing? Welcome to your new obsession.

Julie Huss has been one of my favorite authors for a long time, and I’ve practically devoured everything she’s written. One of the things I absolutely love about her is that she releases all formats at the same time, making it so easy to dive right into her world, no matter how you choose to read—or, in my case, listen. Plus all the twists and turns and she also writes amazing spice!
This book is the fourth installment in the series, and let me tell you, there’s no way to just jump in at this point. You have to read them in order because the world she’s created is deep, layered, and full of connections that only make sense with the full backstory. The series itself is built around three towns—Disciple, Revenant, and Bishop—each playing a crucial role in the story’s unfolding mysteries and intense character journeys.
What I’ve loved about this series so far is how each book focuses on people not just finding love, but also building businesses, chasing answers, and uncovering mysteries. By this point, a lot of those mysteries have been unraveled, but, of course, there are still a few lingering questions and more are created…. And in true Julie Huss style, the twists and turns keep coming, pulling you in and messing with your mind in the best way possible.
The narrators, as always, did an amazing job bringing this story to life. Julie has a knack for picking the best ones, making the listening experience just as compelling as reading.
One of the most exciting things about this series? It’s not over. Julie has said this is her forever series, meaning there’s more to come. Hopefully, you’ve all been keeping track of every twist, (in my case creating notes, spreadsheet and graphics 😝) because we’re in for an unforgettable ride ahead.
“I think for her, she acts for me” “My mission is you and your mission is me”
There is going to be 2 more books about this town, Disciple then Julie is going to move on to one of the others. Personally I hope she moves on to Revenant, I love me some bad bikers. 😘
When JA Huss released Tragic in 2014, it seemed like a story about a homeless girl who got a life-changing modeling gig. Over the course of 7 books (if you count Tragic through the Creeping Beautiful series, it's more like 34 books), we realized that Huss starts a story so you think it's going one way and ends it with wild, crazy stuff happening and it is something completely different.
The Sacred Trinity series is going the exact same way. The Rumble and the Glory started by introducing us to the towns of Disciple, Revenant and Bishop, and to the Revival. We met Collin Creed and learned what happened to his baby sister Olive. It had mystery and suspense, but also sweet romance and intimacy.
Did I think all the books would be like this? No. Because I know how Huss builds her worlds.
And this one, book 4? Good God it was a roller coaster. What starts as a story about Olive and Brose trying to grab an Edge employee in order to get to her brother Collin ends up as a mindfuck all about mind control, PSYOP military actions and frequencies that had me listening for hours straight. I literally COULD NOT STOP.
I love Olive and Shep. I want the best for them. Hell I love Brose too. These guys are all caught up in this mess. I am hoping that we get more answers in the next book, and I bet we will.
The audio is phenomenal. Duet narration with Samantha Brentmoor, Gideon Frost, and Shane East. Amazing work by all. I loved it.
Definitely recommend this entire series. It is going to take you to so many places. I can't wait until it takes me to Revenent!
I read this book chapter by chapter through Julie's Patreon and to say it was torture to wait for each new chapter daily would be putting it mildly. So much so, that after I got the full download, I went back and read the whole thing again, just to make sure I fully understand what I had read. That part I may not have been completely successful with, but as always, I just let go and trust that Julie will take me in the direction I need to go to understand it all in the end.
After having come off the ride called Blood Brothers, with all its twists and turns, I knew (and have known for a long time) that Julie's stories are never really just easy. They are always full of layers and concepts and topics that I am usually not really ready to talk about. This one revolves all around AI and Psy ops and mind fuckery to the nth degree. And trust me when I say, the narrators are as unreliable as they come! They themselves, don't even know if what they're talking about is real or not. It made me think of Peeta Mellark in the Hunger Games when he had to keep asking Katniss, "real or not real?"
This is the fourth book in the Sacred Trinity series, and really you should read them all in order if you want to get the full effect of what's going on. This one ends with what I'd call a happy for now ending, and I can't wait to see what happens next with these characters!
I say this because I actually liked and understood those first books. THEN, this was probably painful to put in a cube. I do understand why the series evolved but I don't like what happened in the end. I was breathless to get to the next chapter, literally. I'm thinking this was too futuristic or too realistic. Just too much thinking for my 76 year old brain to handle. I probably won't make it through anymore JA HUSS books, sorry Julie. I've enjoyed the rides. It's not your writing. Its my lack of real time left. And what I choose to read. Maybe another year or two left. I've been reading anything and everything I can. Last year I was in "GOOD READS" 1% of books read. Not many people above 1% read more than I did last year. Old age and poor health are winning. Can't judge a person by having read many wonderful books from cover to cover. More science than fiction. I'm not crazy about the reality that is coming. Prayers for the future.
Wow! We revisit Edge Security through a new character, Ean Shepard/Shep. He lands at Collin Creed's compound unexpectedly, courtesy of his "nemesis", Charlie Buford. Shep doesn't really understand what's going on as well, and Danger in the Damage follows him as he tries to find his footing with this second chance at a different life. The first three stories in this series followed other residents of Disciple, West Virginia, including, Collin and Amon. In this book, we meet Collin's younger step-sister, Olive Creed, who believes she's part of a plot to bring her brother to justice. That's all I'm going to say about the story because you have to listen or read the book to appreciate the detailed nuances our talented storyteller, JA Huss, weaves into her writing. I wouldn't classify this story as sci-fi since I tend to associate futuristic characters, equipment or worlds with it. This story takes place in a contemporary world (like our present) and the use of (existing) technology to control perceptions which should leave readers looking at our world a bit differently. The voice actors truly add another level of complexity to the characters. I listened to this one a second time and picked up more nuances than I did the first time!
...I should wait to write this, just until I have some time to process, because my mind is in pieces! No one and I mean no one does it like Julie does. I live for her stories, worlds and a little peek into her mind. This series is 100% some of my top reads ever. It is scary (technology and the science of today) and crazy and amazing and just everything. I loved Brose, surely I am not the only one, and can't wait to get more of him. Little Olive, doing it in a big way! Shep too. I am so ready for book 5. If you haven't picked this series up yet....DO IT! You will not regret it.
I think I want Bishop next. It's so sweet and charming, you just know the secrets there are going to be some of the best!
It always takes me a little bit to get my thoughts in line after reading a JA Huss book. Each and every time I think there can't possibly be another way for this author to blow my mind or f- with my head... she smashes out another story that I absolutely can't get enough of. I love this series! Although I did kind of figure out what was happening a little before what was revealed and the big ending, it was still a shock to actually read about it happening and how. And OMG that ending?! I need more! I absolutely loved Olive and Shep and Brose in his own little way. And I loved being back on the Edge compound and seeing familiar characters again. I can't wait to see what the next book brings.
I was excited to read this story, eager to learn more about Olive Creed (Collin’s baby sister) after that fateful night when her life, and Collin’s, both changed so radically. And, once again, Julie Huss delivered everything I wanted (and so much more), through this dark, twisty as hell, suspenseful tale!
There’s just so much going on that it’s impossible to review without revealing spoilers. There are so many secrets; so many mind games, that at times it’s a bit confusing to follow. There’s also explicit MF sex, which features a power exchange and includes punishment kink and breath play.
I’m already looking forward to the next book, as I suspect we’ve just skimmed the surface of what’s going on in the tunnels that run beneath Trinity County.
This is the most out of bounds book I ever read! This story will keep you on your toes and guessing. The Trinity County series keeps evolving and becoming more layered with each story. These characters have so many dimensions and once you think you have figured it out, Julie Huss spins you, turns you upside and drops you in another space. I love the intrigue, I love the heat and I love that nothing is what it seems!
Julie never disappoints and if she ever goes down the rabbit hole of crazy biker dudes, I’m here for it, because they would fit right in!
On another note, the audio will grab you by the throat! The narrators will blow your mind.
This is some deep State, Jason borne stuff going on in this book. We get lots more questions and some answers. We get new characters and old ones we know. Collin Creed can't seem to live a peaceful life. This book takes you on a wild head trip that has you gasping out loud throughout. Oh the places this author takes us in her stories are just so, so good and deep and damaged and just epic. I hope we get to go to Revenant next to learn some more about our biker town. Whatever it is, it is a guaranteed read from me!
Wow! This is a book of literal mind games. Ean Shephard is CORE, but has been sent to Edge to join the men with Collin creed. Enter Olive Creed. She and Brose are a couple. She’s a 20 yo agent and he’s her handler. Her mission: draw away someone from Edge to learn more about what Edge does.
But not all is what it seems. That’s putting it mildly. It gets more twisted and everything is so wildly realistically unrealistic. What is real? Who is Olive and why is she there?
Let’s just say it gets a lot more “unsettling” as the story unfolds. But that ending?!?! Whoa! Mind-5uckery!!!!
Man it's like a cliff hanger But Not. Oh this book was a wild ride I really REALLY need the next. I tried to hold off reading this one till the one after but it's hard to find good authors. Now here I get to sit impatiently waiting the next. Ahhhhh Good shit. I know the author is busy in her personal life. why OH Why did I read this one before the next came out. 😭 the wait will be torture. I am still under torture from my other favorite author. I need Amelia Hutchins personal life to calm down to. LMAO joking. all joking aside I love this series. ❤️
Continuing this series The first trilogy was fabulous The next one is complicated This is a world of AI of control and manipulation What is real and what is not So cleverly written Fabulous characters olive has been gone for years and she turns up out of nowhere Shep has been sent to Edge Security Should they trust them What are their intentions Who is in control Who is the puppet master Can’t wait for the next book as the story unfolds and guessing what is going to happen next x
I always struggle keeping characters and their stories together when there is an expanse of time between interlinked series of books and this was no exception. So it took me a while to get together what was happening. By the time I thought I did, the story was shifting again, not really stabilising much until the very end. It did keep me thoroughly engaged and now confused who the reintroduced character at the end was 🤷♀️
Anything JA writes is great! I’m always on the look out for her next book. This series is hooking me in. The world sat around disciple is totally dragging me in. I’m here waiting to see where this goes, what is Brose going to do? Is Hattie going to try and control Brose? That’s not going to go over well, he’s too much of a control freak himself! Keep going Julie for me it’s got to be Bishop next come on you gotta save the bikers for last!
Boy, did this tale turn on a dime. Shep, new guy on the scene, is a wildcard that may or may not be a threat to Edge. But when Olive Creed shows up in a mysterious bar, who’s good and who’s bad is up for debate. I almost got comfortable reading this then it all went sideways. Great read!
Wow! Loved this story! And this certainly took a turn that I did not see coming, but the storyline works so well. This is such a good series, plenty of suspense, fantastic characters and great world building. Can’t wait for more!
The Dark Romance meets Sci-Fi... Miss Huss did this so well, I read this book in 1 sitting and when I got to the end I desperately wanted more. Cannot wait for the next book. I Loved It!
How does she continue to shock? I feel like I never have the slightest clue where she's going, but when it happens it's somehow inevitable. What a thrilling romance.
