When Nina and Sammy come upon a creepy old tree in the woods with a door carved into its trunk, they find a little green statue inside holding a luminous ball, and when Sammy removes the ball, he unknowingly opens the door to the goblin world.
Okay, already Deadtime again. It's wild that we're almost done with these, just 2 left after this. Until Faerie Tale and the Tiny Town sequel show up.
This time, our kids of the month are Nina and Sammy. One night they're out in the woods and discover a door in a tree. They take a peek and find this big room inside. In there is a goblin statue holding an orb.
They take and the Goblin statue comes to life. It chases them and while they get away, they have to be careful about goblin sightings. They discover the orb cab stop time and that’s where the fun begins.
This was pretty fun. Just like my last read, this just drops us in with them getting into the goblin stuff right away. A bit abrupt but at least we know the kids a tad at the start.
To get the flaws out first, there is some you gotta belive me stuff we didn't need. Nina is a bit too quick to blab about Goblins. And while Sammy was there to see that a goblin is after them, he doesn't take Nina seriously about seeing it everywhere and jumps into the using the Ball The Goblins want.
I'd cut down on that as it was a bit annoying although there is less in the back half. Otherwise, I liked Nina well enough as the scared type. Sammy improves as be sees that this is mostly his fault. He gets some nice human moments later on.
I like the more eventful plot with a fair bit of action. The Ball leads to fun time antics and we get into large scale lore stuff with the Goblins. There are questions but we get enough. I didn't expect all this goblin war stuff, that was cool.
The twist is functional, that's about it. There isn't much more to say, honestly. It has some rushed parts, meaning not a huge epliouge
But it's pretty fun. Plenty of fun antics and action to make it worth a read. Not one with a ton more but it has enough. Just a solid time overall. That's about it. Hyped to see how the episode is.
Next, we head to the Galaxy of Fear with The Doomsday Machine. See ya then.
I got this at a second-hand shop when I was a kid and this was just amazing. I loved this book so much, yet my library didn't even have the series. It's the only book I've read in the series, but I'd check the other ones out! It was actually more scary at that time than Goosebumps.
It was a good read. Not what I expected, at all. My friend said it gave her nightmares so that's what drove me to read it. I'd read it again- I probably will soon.
