He lives for the adrenaline of the high seas while her adventure only happens between the pages of a book...
Can the magic of the holidays help these two find common ground?

Skyla is anything but adventurous. She spends her time taking care of her grandfather and working part-time at the library and her family bookstore. It's a quiet existence, but not a bad one, especially since Skyla spends much of her time dreaming of writing a book about the type of adventures she'll never experience herself.

But when her grandfather receives a difficult diagnosis, Skyla decides it's time to change everything. Life is too short to spend it daydreaming rather than actually living. And who better to help her fulfill her grandfather's dream of deep sea fishing than Dalton Saunders, a kind boat captain who makes Skyla's heart pitter patter when he smiles?

Dalton has never been one to believe in love at first sight, but Skyla Bowen has proved him wrong. Beautiful, but shy and quiet, Dalton has been extra careful in approaching her and is trying to work up the nerve to ask her out when she offers him the chance of a lifetime. Help fulfill her grandfather's dying wish and she'll be in his debt forever.

Knowing he'll never get a better chance, Dalton isn't above using her gratitude, a solitary evening on the moonlit ocean or a sprig of mistletoe if it means bringing Skyla out of her shell and into his arms.

This is going to be a holiday season none of them will ever forget.

For fans of Elana Johnson, Rachel Hanna and Rachael Bloome, this sweet, small town romance is the perfect read for a cool, winter night. Grab your favorite drink and curl up for a sweet read by USA Today Bestselling author, Laura Ann.

🎄📚 A quiet bookstore, a gentle boat captain, and a holiday romance built on soft moments and big hearts. 📚🎄

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5)
Spice-meter: 🌶️☆☆☆☆ (1/5)
Audiobook: 🎧 Dual
Series: Shops on Main, Book 3 (interconnected standalone)
HEA: Yes

The Quietest Shop on Main leans fully into cozy, small-town holiday romance. This is a soft, low-conflict story about two reserved souls finding courage, connection, and a little bit of magic during the Christmas season. It fits perfectly within the Shops on Main world, though it’s easily read as a standalone since each book follows a different couple.

That said, while undeniably sweet, this installment didn’t quite hit as strongly for me as the earlier books in the series. The tone is gentle to the point where, at times, it drifts into very quiet territory.

The Story

Skyla Bowen lives a small, careful life. Between helping her grandfather, working at the library, and minding the family bookstore, adventure exists only in the pages of the books she reads and dreams of writing herself. But when her grandfather receives devastating news, Skyla realizes that dreaming isn’t enough anymore. It’s time to live.

Enter Dalton Saunders, a kind-hearted boat captain who thrives on the open sea and has been quietly crushing on Skyla from afar. When Skyla asks him to help fulfill her grandfather’s final wish, a deep-sea fishing trip, Dalton sees more than an opportunity to help. He sees a chance to bring Skyla out of her shell and maybe, just maybe, into his life.

Their romance unfolds slowly, built on tenderness, patience, and mutual respect. There’s mistletoe, moonlit water, and a lot of emotional softness. It’s a story about choosing courage over comfort, but always in a very gentle, understated way.

🎧 Narration

Performed in dual narration by Allie Piper and Robert Hatchet, both of whom were new to me. Their performances were solid and well-matched to the tone of the story. Nothing flashy, but warm, clear, and fitting for such a quiet, character-driven romance. The narration supports the story nicely without overpowering it.

What I Liked

✔️ Cozy small-town Christmas vibes
✔️ Two genuinely kind, soft-hearted leads
✔️ A gentle, supportive MMC
✔️ Found family and community atmosphere
✔️ Easy, comforting holiday listen

Tropes & Vibes

✔️ Small-Town Romance
✔️ Holiday / Christmas Romance
✔️ Opposites in Lifestyle (Quiet vs. Adventurous)
✔️ Slow, Gentle Burn
✔️ Caretaking & Family Bonds
✔️ Cozy, Low-Stakes Story

Final Thoughts

The Quietest Shop on Main is exactly what the title promises: quiet, soft, and tender. It’s a comforting romance with zero spice, minimal conflict, and lots of heart. While I personally found parts of it a bit slow and less engaging than other books in the series, it still delivers a sweet, wholesome love story that fits perfectly with winter nights and cozy moods.

Not the strongest entry in the series for me, but still a pleasant, feel-good read for anyone craving calm, kindness, and charm.

Soft, Slow, and Surprisingly Sweetly Emotional

The Quietest Shop on Main by Laura Ann
Narrated by Allie Piper & Robert Hatchet

Story : ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆
Narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🩵Skylar Bowen likes Dalton Saunders

Skyla Bowen 📚
A quiet Small town Librarian and caregiver to her grandfather who while working at the family bookstore had dreams of becoming an author. But after her grandfather devastating change of health, Skyla realizes that having all these dreams and grand plans isn’t just enough anymore. Plus what was she going to do with her long time crush on the good Captain.

Dalton Saunders 🚤
A Fisherman, a sweet kind-hearted knight in shining armor who love what he does and that including looking out for his little sister. But Dalton has been quietly crushing on Skyla. For. A. Long while.
So When Skyla grandfather told him about his final wish, a deep-sea fishing trip, Dalton seized the opportunity. He sees a chance. A long awaited chance to be more imbedded into his life.

But as romance unfolds slowly between them, one built on tenderness, patience, and mutual trust. There’s no mistaking the ease in which they share a common bond. Having the courage to share how they felt finally in a very gentle, understated way was truly beautiful. And the beginning of a great journey.

🎙️🎧But Listennnn…
Robert Hatchet and Allie Piper completely the tone of the story perfectly… calm, measured emotionally restrained with the right amount of banter and humor.
The narrators allows the quite moments to. Just breathe. This enhances the reflective moods, the longing, and makes this a particularly satisfying listen.
But it’s Robert Hatchet talented abilities of storytelling that makes this story so enjoyable!

💭 Final Thoughts
This audiobook won’t be for readers who want fast pacing or high drama, No.
But if you love cozy, character-driven stories with heart, and a little humor, then The Quietest Shop on Main is a lovely choice. A fantastic palette cleanser that will feel like a deep exhale—and sometimes that’s exactly the kind of story you need.

A shout out BNA and to you my bestie for reading my review, rambling and recommendations.

The Quietest Shop on Main centers on Dalton and Skyla, and is a super sweet story. While it revolves around their romance, it also includes themes of friendship, intergenerational relationships, and community. Lighthouse Bay is a tight-knit community that perfectly encompasses the feel of a small town romance. Laura's stories are sweet and romantic, while being clean and closed door (kisses only).

Dalton's character is hard working, knows how to make sacrifices and is skilled in getting Skyla to slow down and focus on what's important. Skyla is a natural caretaker and has a difficult time not caring for everyone around her. This comes to a head when she finds herself as a caregiver for her grandfather, and begins to neglect her own needs. The way that they balance each other out works really nicely. A fishing captain and librarian/book store owner seem like an unlikely pair, but their chemistry is great.

This is the first book that I have listened to with Allie Piper narrating, and she does a wonderful job. She captures the vulnerabilities of Skyla's character without making her seem weak. Robert Hatchet is a reliable narrator, and if he is involved I know to expect a fantastic performance. Both narrators do a great job with the dual narration style, and had me engrossed in the story the whole time.

Another story in the Shops on Main, another sweet closed-door romance. This story is about Skyla, part-time librarian, part-time book-shop worker, and care-giver of her grandfather. Daulton is a deep sea fisherman and gives tours on his boat. Daulton falls for Skyla first, and is all-in on ensuring that someone takes care of Skyla. Skyla is giving to a fault, taking care of those around her pretty much all the time. Skyla's grandfather and Daulton's sister are key supporting characters throughout the story, adding even more emotional depth to the story.
As a series of interconnected standalones, we see the string of robberies on Main Street hit the bookstore, with Skyla ending up in the hospital. Much like the other stories in the series, the hero swoops in to take care of the heroine. Skyla isn't used to anyone taking care of her, while Daulton is used to caring for his sister. For me, this story packed more of an emotional punch than the other stories.
The narrators for this story were Allie Piper and Robert Hatchet. Allie was new to me, but really captured Skyla's gentle and emotional spirit. Robert Hatchet is a favorite of mine, and his low baritone really helped sell Daulton to me. His voice is like a warm hug. Thank you to Blue Nose Audio for the opportunity to listen and review.

The Quietest Shop on Main is such a sweet, relatable story. It shows true progression of a quiet relationship. The story pulls in managing time and support to your family and your new love.
Skyla is taking care of her Grandfather, and working part time at the library and family bookstore.
Dalton is a captain of a fishing boat and looks out for his sister. The two have always liked each other but didnt think those feelings were returned. Their relationship slowly builds through quiet, respectful, trusting moments. Their story is truly sweet, cute and heart warming. They allow each other space to be who they are and find ways to step in and help as a team.
I listened to the audio. Allie Piper and Robert Hatchet set the perfect tone for this story. Their voices were soft, but also strong when they needed to be. Allie brought out Skyla's vulnerable and uncertain side. You could hear the shake in her voice as she wants to speak up, but also wants to keep everyone happy. Robert hit Daltons sensitive yet strong character. His voice was gentle but assertive. You could hear the love he had for his sister, and then Skyla and her Grandfather.
If you're looking for a slow paced, small town cozy reads, this one is for you.

❤️

The Quietest Shop on Main by Laura Ann!
Book 3 in the Shops on Main series
Performed in dual narration by Allie Piper & Robert Hatchet

Dalton the type of guy any girl, mom, sister, dad would want for their daughter. Swoonworthy ... knight in shining armor, hard worker, family man (love for his sister), smart, shy 🤭... need to get out of the friend zone first ...

Skyla the girl next door type, smart, shy, friendly, sweet to everyone. Librarian and book store owner, when a scare with her gpa ends her up with a captain of a fisherman saving the day. Does he like her though?!

This series is so freaking cute!!! This is the 3rd book of the series and they are all interconnected but you don't really need to read in order since they are about different people but in the same small town. Zero spice, perfect to share this small town romance with your young reader perhaps. Super sweet and romantic and touches some heartache and overcoming past issues. Dual narrations but they did fabulous portraying the other one in their chapters.

Love love love, can't wait for the next one

A wonderful romance you’re sure to enjoy
A touching story of dreams abandoned, loving service rendered, and finding happiness through it all. Dalton gave up his dreams of becoming a doctor when his sister was deserted by her fiancée and she had no one to help her heal. Moving back to their hometown, Dalton hoped would help her. What he didn’t plan on was Skyla, a part-time librarian, part-time bookstore owner. Dalton was immediately drawn to her but she was quiet and appeared shy. Skyla had noticed and was drawn to Daton but she was already so busy dating was out of the question. When the Dalton’s sister decides to meddle and is joined by Skyla’s grandfather things ae soon turned on their head. Such a fun book. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

Oh my heart! Dalton and Skyla may seem like an unlikely couple but they are great for each other. Yep! This book has all the feels you expect from sweet romance and so much more.

This book has a great storyline that moves along at the right pace. It evokes all of my memories of being young and in love with a secret crush.

Dalton, handsome strong guy to lean on, is the perfect foil to Skyla’s quiet shy nature. They fit so well together. And I absolutely couldn’t get enough of Skyla’s grandfather and Analiese. Can’t wait for her story.

Love this book.

I love this series. The community of Lighthouse Bay is filled with people who care about one another and work together to keep their town safe. Dalton, a deep sea fishing captain, and Skyla, the quiet librarian and book store owner are an unlikely pair. Their story is sweet with lots of emotion and twists and turns. I love how the mystery of the shop break-ins continues through the series. Wonderful!

Super sweet. Dalton has a crush on Skyla and vice versa. They both are moving super slow, since Skyla is extremely shy. But, she reaches out to a Dalton to take her grandfather deep sea fishing. Skyla is very self contained, living a very small life in a small town. It’s cute how much Dalton is into her.
Recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one!! A heartfelt, real-life romance that developed naturally over time , sincere chemistry between Skyla and Dalton. Such a sweet, refreshing change of pace.

Allie Piper was fantastic, and her chemistry with Robert Hatched was incredible. Robert especially brought so much depth and emotion to Dalton. Together, they made this story shine.

Loved it

Dalton was a quiet ship captain who met a quiet librarian. They both were attracted to each other but where to shy to take it further until one day Dalton realized Skyla liked him to and made it his mission to make her his.

Proofreading Is Worse With Each Book

An otherwise very good book is hampered by many improper word usage errors that a simple spell check does not find. This effort needs a better proofreader or more time to do a decent job.

Dalton and Skyla are two of the kindest hearted people I have ever read about. They take caring about and for others to a whole new level. My heart hurts for his sister (can't wait to read her book) and her grandfather is one funny man. A really sweet romantic holiday story. Great ending.

Dalton and Skyla at first are hesitant and shy about approaching each other despite the mutual attraction they have. Once they do, the mystery of who vandalized and robbed her family bookshop, her grandfather’s declining health, and her people pleasing personality make matters harder than they need to be. But in the end, they have their HEA. I highly recommend this story. I received a copy of the book for free and this is my own opinion about it.
