This was a very thorough introduction to the practice of journaling. I was intrigued by the format, which was part historical overview and part guided practice.
However, the book would have been better if it had focused on one topic or the other. The reflective information was lost in the history and explanations of the journaling practice. Likewise, the dry, factual history took away from the deeper reflection encouraged by the journal prompts.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I didn't think I would be able to learn any more about journaling than I already knew. However, I learned a great deal, including different ways to journal that aren't necessarily traditional. I liked the way the book was peppered with quotes from scientists, philosophers, and others, and I also appreciated the journal prompts. For those who are new to journaling or thinking about starting but don't know where to begin, this book is ideal. I received a free advance copy from Book Sirens, and this is my honest review.
The book explains the "why" of journaling and how to find your own "why". It explains several types of journals to keep and the different ways to keep them. I found this all to be informative and helpful.
