My life turned upside down when I uncovered my bosses’ criminal activities and needed protection. Instead of the type of safehouse I expected. I was sent to a historic townhouse to live with Dom, a scarred former assassin who rarely talks and wishes I wasn't there. The only upside, he’s a hot AF silver fox.
He’s also straight and old enough to be my father, but since I don’t have anything else to do while I wait to testify, I might as well see if I can melt the ice he’s encased himself in. I long to find out how much heat lies underneath.
Dom has no end of secrets. I soon learn the woman who is out to get me is after him as well. With our lives on the line, and Dom not so straight after all, we both give into our need for comfort. Is there any chance Dom will open up to more, or will his heart remain closed off even if his body is mine?

Cute little read and I do mean little. Maybe its just me, but I feel like this book was shorter than the others... Ive been anticipating the last marchesi book for a while... And it kind of disappointed me. Dont get me wrong its not a terrible read or anything like that. I was just expecting more. I dont appreciate 90% of the book being set inside the house. The fight woth the villain was mid af man whaaaat it only lasted for two pages. Idk its just mid and it should not have taken so long to be released. No shade
Take a wounded mature mafia hitman/boss with trust issues … A good-doer young lawyer … Add an evil ex-wife, bad people who bite more than they can chew, a medling family, vigilantes, bullets here and there … And oh, I almost forgot : hotness, feelings etc… Enjoy ! This book is part 3 of the Marchesi Loan sharks, but it can be read as a standalone, you’ll still enjoy the story !
Ps I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
This is the third book in the Marchesi Loans series and is the story of Dom and Corey. Dom has been on his own for 10 years after suffering serious injuries, and Corey is a young lawyer who was in the wrong place at the wrong time and overheard a conversation that makes him a vital witness in a major crime investigation. Instead of going into WITSEC, Corey is put in the custody of Dom, father of the Marchesi family but an almost recluse.
The story is an age / bi awakening/ close proximity/ mafia trope, but as always, well written by the author. Overall it felt a bit shorter than others in this series hence only 4 stars. I read in under a day.
Chapter 2 had me laughing aloud at the clever wordplay between Dom and family members, and who else would have a huge security guard named Muffin! I loved the relationship and banter between Dom and his sons.
The story is well written and well paced with turns and twists as the two main characters develop their feelings for each other. This against the backdrop of someone trying to get to Corey. It had me on the edge of my seat as the story nears its climax and races towards its HEA. But a warning there are descriptions of mafia style killings, but well managed.
Overall I loved it and cannot wait to get it on audible and for the next series to pre order. SV is one of my go to authors as she never fails to deliver a strong story with characters that are credible and not characatures or lightweights. I would suggest reading the previous two books in this series first but its not vital in my opinion, however if this is your first look at a SV mafia book, start with the first series. Marchesi Family. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest impartial review
What a great conclusion to this series (I'm assuming conclusion, though I'd be overjoyed with more books). Finally getting to learn more about Dom was so very satisfying. His life has not been easy and having the reasons why he's so grumpy and closed-off revealed really made him into a fascinating character for me. He makes sense in a way that I wasn't sure he would given his prior appearances in previous books.
That said, man, did I want to shake him frequently throughout this book. But again, it was so true to his character to be stubborn and recalcitrant that I can't even be angry about it.
Corey, though. Sweet, trusting, open Corey. He was the perfect foil for Dom. Watching him navigate his situation with more grace than I think most people would was a joy. No matter what this plot threw at him, he remained such a *good* person.
Happy to see the appearance of some familiar faces from the Marchesi Universe. I won't say who because potential spoilers, but I will say that I suddenly want to binge-read all the related books again.
What I really love about this book--about all of these books--is that even though I know I'll get a satisfying ending and that everything will work out, my emotions are still rampant and fierce during the reading. Doesn't matter that I know the couple will end up happy (doesn't even matter if it's my fifth re-read), when they hit their inevitable road bumps, my heart hurts for them. I won't lie, my eyes got a little more than teary in parts of this one, but I also laughed and cheered, so it all evens out in the end.
We have met Dom in the two previous books in the Marchesi Loan Shark books featuring his sons. In thise books he is harsh, antisocial and quite intimidating, even to his sons. We learn Dom is extensive scarred on one side including his face which has led to him being very reclusive. Corey is a junior at a law firm who, being in the wrong place at the wrong time, hears a heinous plot involving the senior partners. Due to his testimony being essential to stop the criminals, he is sent by X to hide out at Doms. Warned that his host is antisocial in the extreme, Corey is far too tempted to understand the stern older man, to heed the warnings he was given. When Corey starts to try and get to know him, Dom becomes unravelled by the combination of the sunny golden retriever man's collision with the threat by his worst ever mistake. Corey manages to 'see' through Doms facade of grumpy taciturn man to the hurt that lies beneath both physical and mental. Can Dom let his guard down enough to see what's really in front of him, can Corey help him heal and will they both survive the collision of past and present, or die trying? This book has the usual possessive vibes, hurt / comfort and seriously spicy heat between the main characters as well as the quintessential 'touch him and die' vibe that we have grown to expect from our favorite mob family. Another great book in the series.
Talk about bad timing. Corey stumbles upon his lawyer bosses discussing illegal drug and sex trafficking with an unknown female, thus creating a bullseye on his back and being sequestered in the home of belligerent mafia dom Dominic Marchesi of the Marchesi Loan Shark family. Dom has isolated himself from all because of his physical and emotional scars caused by his ex-wife Lisa. Dom has built high walls around himself and his heart only to have "X" force him to become Corey's bodyguard. This is a story packaged in drama, stress, anxiety, and sure to keep any reader who's read the previous books in this series hooked from the first to the last page. Dominic aka/Dom has to face up to his fears thus making him an unsung hero worth cheering for. As for Corey's personality, he has the "running off his mouth" or "putting his foot in his mouth" at the most inopportune moments that in some instances makes for laughable reading that just boggles Dom. Both Dom and Corey are strong people in their own way, and both worked for and earned the love they found in each other's arms. This is a strong read and one that I do recommend as this is my voluntary and willing review for the ARC I was given.
In this third book of the Marchesi Loan Sharks series, we get to know Dominic and Corey’s story. Being the father of Valentino and Vito, Dominic, Dom, was present in the previous books as well, but here we learn that, despite his appearance, he’s a man that’s been hurt very bad in the past, both physically and emotionally, therefore he wears a thick armour to prevent himself from suffering anymore. Everything changes when he accepts to protect Corey, a young lawyer from New York, hunted down from the same person who, years before, left Dominic for dead. Corey turns upside down Dom’s life in every sense, and despite the first, not exactly friendly, meeting, the two of them learn to get along even more than they expected. I loved the story, full of adrenaline, and action, as well as the main characters. Dom and Corey are opposites, with Dom being the grumpy bear, and Corey the sunny, and talkative young man. I enjoyed the introspection process, that allows the reader to better understand what the main characters think and what’s behind their actions. Even though the family business is quite “unusual”, I love the fact that they always have each other’s back, being there during the most difficult moments. As usual, a great job from this author!
When I read the blurb for Blood Runs Cold – I KNEW I was going to have the time of my life reading it. I mean, something about an older, stoic man who most are intimidated by and this younger guy who isn’t deterred by any of it had me practically dancing to my bed to go read it. And, Silvia Violet did not come to play. ( Or, hey maybe she did lmao )
I loved how despite the story not having quite a pacing I would’ve preferred it still worked remarkably well for Corey and Dom. Seeing these two connect and work for their happy endings despite the really messed up things that have and were happening was so fun to watch. And, I also loved that we had to work for their relationship – it made it all the more enjoyable for me.
If you love a bit of action, a grumpy man finding his happy ending with the last possible person he could ever possibly dream of and vice versa – this book AND series is for you.
Corey and Dom story was intense with danger and adrenaline, but also manipulation and deceit. I was extremely happy to see Dom finally getting his happily ever after, and Corey was perfect for the job. They had to work hard for their happiness as insecurities, mistakes, and miscommunication played a major role in their struggles. I liked the meddlesome family that wanted to help and had a major role in their well-being. They were hot together, completed each other in unexpected ways, and they learned to be the better selves to make their relationship work. I liked Corey’s attitude and courage to stand for what he believes in and for not backing down when confronted by Dom’s attitude. I liked how they both flourished in the light of love. I liked the story, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Corey, seeking protection after exposing his bosses' crimes, is sent to live in a historic townhouse with Dom, a reserved and scarred ex-assassin. Though Dom initially seems distant—and notably much older—Corey is intrigued by him, both emotionally and physically. As secrets unravel, including mutual threats from a shared enemy, their bond deepens, revealing Dom isn't as "straight" as Corey believed. Amidst danger and vulnerability, their connection turns physical, but Corey wonders if Dom's guarded heart will ever truly open to love.
I loved this story with the grumpy Dom and sunshine Corey who were put together through a shared danger and Dom's ability to protect Corey. Lots of amusing moments as well as the development of the two men and their relationship. Easy to , feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
This book is amazing and I loved it! It’s time to learn a bit more about Val and Vito’s dad, Dom, and I absolutely loved his story! Corey is in a bit of trouble and Dom has been chosen to protect him. Their relationship is a bit rough in the beginning but I love how Corey manages to sneak his way into Dom’s heart the more time they spend together. Corey is warm and caring, which is what Dom needs most, even if he won’t admit it. Val and Vito prove themselves loving sons when they try to help their father and I love what these two bring to the story. Dom’s past haunts him, but the love he gets from Corey helps him overcome it all and I love how their story ends.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
I was so excited when I heard Dom would get a book and, it did not disappoint. I felt so bad for what his ex-wife did to him. Made him hide away from the world. Here comes Corey unfortunate timing/situation but it put these two together! I love that Corey never gave up on Dom even when Dom was sooooo stubborn (many times). I love reading Dom's soft side especially for Corey but, still be possessive and would do anything to keep Corey safe and with him. The spice scenes where fire and love that Dom did not hesitate or doubt himself not one bit. These two where perfect! I love this series so much and hope for another book in the future maybe a family reunion. :-) Looking forward getting the audiobook too.
I was absolutely thrilled with Dominic's story! I've been waiting for it ever since he was first mentioned. And this book was everything I could have hoped for and more! We got an interesting story with fantastic main characters. Dom and Corey are so different that I was wondering how they'd get along, but Silvia did a great job of showing us that they'll be great together. The backstory fits the whole universe and I'm thrilled that she continues to show us different members of the Marchesi family and their stories. If you're a fan of age gap, opposite attract, and mafia stories, you'll absolutely love this one. It's a fantastic way to end the series!
This was a fantastic story and a fitting end for the Marchesi saga(though I hope there will be more stories about them). Corey was such a sweetie and Dom was tortured and suffering and I loved how Corey helped heal him. I knew that Lisa would somehow get her hands on Corey and I knew that Dom would be there to rescue but I was thrilled that so many other family members were involved and that Lisa was finally dead. I was upset when Dom just offered Corey a job and understood why he left but was thrilled that Dom found him at the airport and declared his love. Swoon worthy and loved that they were together at the end.
Corey and Dom are absolutely sizzling! I loved how their attraction was immediate and how Corey could truly be himself. It was also great to see familiar characters from previous books, though this story can easily be enjoyed as a standalone. The passion and depth in this book made it a fantastic read, offering a compelling dive into the characters' thoughts and emotions. The Marchesi world and the men in it never disappoint! If you're looking for a captivating read, this book delivers—with romance, action, and plenty of heart. Can’t wait to read more!!
I was so excited to read Dom’s book and wondering who would be the perfect person for him. Corey is a lawyer and overhears something quite heinous for medication. When told he will be sent to someone who will keep him safe. When he meets Dom, he is quite intrigued by him. Dom is reclusive with a very grumpy attitude. This is the start of their story of how Corey helped Dom ease up. Love this world; great world building, high heat and chemistry between them. We also find out who was the person behind the mess, which was solved beautifully. Cannot wait to see who will be next.
Dom is about to meet the one man he cannot resist falling for! Corey is a sweetheart through and through but has landed himself in danger. In steps Dom to protect him. Not to give too much away but these two end up being connected in dangerous ways too! I found the plot here to be exciting and kept me guessing. My favorite part as always with this series though is how amusingly nosey and interfering this family of Mafia men are! Dom and Corey end up somehow being such a perfect match despite their age gap and completely different personalities! I love it when that happens!
Corey and Dom had instant chemistry, something I wasn’t sure how it would happen after seeing the gruff and combative Dom from the previous books. That being said, I adored him. His backstory and the explanation of his physical limitations was heartbreaking. Lisa getting what was coming to her was a slice of poetic justice!
As always, it was wonderful seeing X, Lucien, and the Marchesi’s. The relationship building with Dom and his sons capped this great book off even more.
The writing itself is done very well, like the other books I've read from this author. The characters, especially Corey, were not well-developed. They barely speak, and when they do, it's Dominic being mean and Corey being immature/naive. Then, all of a sudden, they are "falling in love," but there wasn't anything to show them falling in love! No sweet moments, no heartfelt scenes where they expose different sides of themselves. So, to me, they had zero connection.
The third book in this series runs true to the rest. It is engaging with twists and turns to keep you flipping the pages until you finish. Dom captures your attention with his ability to keep strong for those around him but finally connect emotionally to another. Corey brings a breath of sunlight and vulnerability to Dom's world. It is always fun to see a strong man be captured by the feels by another. Great job once more Silvia!
I loved everything in this book. I have a weak spot for masculinity in men. Dom is fantastic, and so is Corey. Dom is a badass, dominant, silver fox (my favorite) and his job is to keep Corey safe. I loved that even if Corey is younger than Dom, he is not a bratty brat or a drama queen. Their dynamics were perfect. It's a bit slow-burnish, but oh so good. Story is packed with action, spice, and love. I loved the whole series.
If you enjoy Silvia's books, you'll like this one too! We've been introduced to stern and reclusive mafia don Dominic in the last 2 Loan Sharks books, so I was really pleased he got his own story. And I do like an age-gap romance. Dom ends up protecting Corey whilst he waits to testify, so the 2 have plenty of opportunity to get to know each other and Corey's optimism and persistence eventually wear Dom down. Plenty of steamy scenes as always too and Dom and Corey have great chemistry together.
Well I’m in heaven because Dom has gotten his book! We seen him in past books and he really grabbed my attention. He’s so stubborn and domineering that he is hard to be around. Well along comes talkative Corey who he needs to protect. Well as you can guess sparks fly between them. Boy oh boy are they so hot together. Can Dom keep Corey safe? Love all books by Silvia Violet and this one does not disappoint!
Finally we get to meet Dom! I was excited to read Dom’s story and find out what tragic backstory he had. It honestly took me a minute to start to like him because he was so cold and standoffish. I am so glad Corey was the complete opposite with a chatty, bright and kind personality. It was fun to watch him slowly break past Dom’s defenses and the heat level was *Chefs Kiss*. If you are a fan of the Marchesis- do not miss this book!
I love Dom and Corey. Dom has been betrayed in the worst way and closed himself off. Corey finds himself needing protection when he hears somethings at his work he wants suppose to. The Marchesi family is providing the protection and Corey finds himself in a world he knew nothing about. Corey and Dom are just what each other needs and even though at first Dom fights his attraction Corey's bubbly personality wind him over.
In the Marchesi latest, Dom is charged by X to protect Corey, a witness to criminal activity by Dom's ex-wife. Sunshiny Corey finds Dom to be a silver fox and wants to lift his bitterness, ease his pain and have his way with him. Dom is in pain, grumpy and finds himself attracted to Corey, a bi awakening. Dom becomes possessive and protective- the best qualities. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.
Yay grumpy Dom gets his happy ever after with a ray of sunshine. Corey sees through Doms walls. All he ever wants is whats best for the man protecting his body, while he gives his heart to the same man. Dom wants his family happy, hes been conditioned from young to hide and lock down his humanity. Something about Corey finishes the job his sons started, of melting his ice walls
You cant help but want these two to make it. For Corey to get his man.
