Rate this book
It all should've been easy for Angelica.

Glowing skin, softball captain, and the happy, popular family of her classmates' envy—practically the recipe for high school smooth sailing, right?

Too bad the captivating cheerleading captain also has a habit of hanging around the girls' locker room after school. And too bad she just might be the one girl who can complicate everything.

Angelica's life is beginning to look like her mom's old mixtape cassettes.

On Side A, everything is going to plan. But turn over the tape to Side B and there is an unexpected mix of tracks Angelica is surprised to discover she might really love...

But how long can she keep this double life a secret?

Yep, I loved this novel. There is too much within these pages to properly talk about in a few sentences, but to be honest that’s one of the things I liked about it. This novel covered a lot of topics, some sweet and heartwarming and some darker and alarming. The overall experience though is one that’s fun, spicy, and honestly adorable. I would recommend this to any reader who is looking for a fun and saucy sapphic romance, and isn’t afraid of a high page count.

I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, but I don't think there is anywhere I can give the author money for it! (Get on that!!)

My Rating: “A”
Converted Rating: 5-Stars

Highlights:
-Length. Not everyone agrees but I think that (if used well) a longer novel is a better one. The pacing on this was good and it never dragged, there was simply a lot of content to enjoy. The author used their considerable page count to deliver a lot of plotline, character development, and everything else you could want in a novel.
-Piggybacking on above because its worth it; the pacing was great on this novel. I read this quickly despite the page count. Its written simply but not in a bad way, this was a very easy read.
-This was just a lot of fun. Not very descriptive of me I know, but that’s the overall vibe I got from this novel. Not all books are fun, this was!
-Of course there was also some much more serious subject matter here, but it was addressed very well in a respectful manner without feeling like the author was exploiting the topic(s) for drama. To be honest, there was a lot less drama than I expected considering some of the plot elements in this novel.
-Big feelings. Highschoolers right? Except that I wouldn’t call anyone here immature or silly, these characters were realistic and mature enough that I could relate to them and appreciate their thoughts and feelings.
-Great chemistry. These two protagonists were a delight and I had a great time.
-So heartwarming!! If I put these bullet points in order this would be higher up. This novel was just so wonderfully touching. There was a lot to be delighted about.

Now all that said ill mention that this isn’t perfect. There were some plot holes and some missing pieces. Some editing that could have been better. There was some overly convenient wish-fulfillment moments (although they were great so…). I’m not sure what age the target audience is given that its high school kids, but also there was a lot of sex, and also they generally acted mature for their stated ages. All that is just details though as the overall story was incredible enough that this didn’t really matter. I felt its worth mentioning though!

When I started reading this I thought I was in for a YA romance/ coming of age story. Now I'm done and I doubt if this is the correct label. (But who needs labels anyway, right?)

I was confused because though it was about two 16/17 year old girls and while there certainly was some high school drama, there was also plenty of spicy moments. Graphic and all. Some were a bit innocent and teenage-like, like that time under the bleechers, but there also were some adult-like encounters. And while it's all about Angie and her new found love Sadie, her mothers are very present side characters. That too contributed to some more mature stuff. Though sometimes it seemed like the moms were also in their teens.

I really liked those moms. I would definitely be up for the story of those two. How they met and fell in love. A prequel would be very nice. Other side characters were great too by the way. And Sadie and especially Angie were extremely lovable. The whole story was. It was bold but still sweet, different but good. Very good.

Was it perfect? No. Sometimes Angie and Sadie seemed way too mature for their ages. But I liked that as well.

About 25% in I started noticing that Angie kept calling Sadie 'the girl' and Sadie called Angie 'kid' all the time. It got annoying when I spotted this every other page. And then, maybe 75% in, I realised I didn't see it anymore. I also noticed that letters in names were mixed up: Saide in stead of Sadie and Jhon in stead of John several times.

Then sometimes Sadie seems to have a bit of an attitude. Like she was putting on a show to get everyone's attention. That includes PDA 'performances' like kissing and touching in front of people. I didn't like that kind of bahaviour. Just like Mom Amelia's who sometimes acted like an entitled white cis man and pulled some strings to get her way, for good course, but still...

And it was nice that Angies family was so open about sex and all, but sometimes it was kind of awkward and felt like they crossed a line.

There was bit of an open ending. Like the end of a season on a Netflix show, without a big cliffhanger though. So while some thing were definitely rounded up, I was also curious how it would continue. It makes me looking forward to a sequel. 4,5⭐️

I don’t usually write reviews, but for this one, I’ve decided to make an exception. This book holds a special place in my heart: I discovered it a while ago when it was still published on Wattpad, and its story has stayed with me like a cherished and precious memory.

"Strangled Tracks on Side B" is much more than a simple coming-of-age novel. It is an open window into the inner turmoil and experiences that shape us, especially during adolescence. The author gives us an authentic narrative, rich in emotion and depth, that explores themes such as identity, love, and the courage to be yourself

The story follows Angelica, the captain of the softball team, a girl who, on the surface, seems to have it all: two mothers who provide a model of unconditional love and support, good grades, and a good relationship with her teammates. Yet, behind this impeccable facade hides a girl who feels trapped in the process of discovering who she really is. Angelica is a complex protagonist, with an inner journey that many readers can relate to.

On the other side is Sadie, the cheerleader captain, a fascinating character full of contrasts. Charismatic and talented, Sadie hides behind her smile a life marked by difficulties and traumas that have led her to build masks to face an often hostile world. Yet, beneath these defenses lies a passionate and resilient girl who finds comfort in visual arts and nurtures hope for a better future.

The relationship between Angelica and Sadie is the beating heart of the novel. Their secret and intense love story, is a journey of discovery and vulnerability. Sadie, with her resilience and courage, becomes the mirror that allows Angelica to truly see herself for the first time. In the same way, Angelica represents for Sadie a tangible hope: the love that breaks down barriers, that embraces and doesn’t judge. Their relationship is portrayed with extraordinary delicacy, and every moment between them vibrates with authenticity

The title, "Strangled Tracks on Side B", recalls music cassettes: side A represents what is expected and planned, while side B is the one of surprises, of the lesser-known but often more emotional tracks. This concept reflects the lives of the protagonists: unplanned experiences, those outside of control, often prove to be the most significant and transformative.

Lucia Faraci writes with a disarming sensitivity. Each character is portrayed with care, avoiding stereotypes and adding depth and realism to the story. The narrative manages to touch deep emotional chords without ever falling into melodrama. Sadie, in particular, stands out as one of the most memorable protagonists I’ve ever encountered: a character who, despite the weight of her past, never stops fighting for a better future.

"Strangled Tracks on Side B" is a novel that leaves its mark. With intimate and engaging writing, Faraci reminds us that, just like a B-side, life is full of unexpected surprises, and it’s often these that make it truly special. I recommend it to anyone looking for an intense love story, a journey of self-discovery, and a tale that speaks of resilience and hope.

This book is just so good. Even after a year and a half since my first read, I’m still in love with every single line in it.

If you’re searching for a book about a high-school romance that turns into a lifetime one, this is your best pick.

You’ll easily fall in love with Sadie and Angie, they complete each other in such a beautiful way.

Angie’s moms are the best representation of loving and healthy parenting. They’re the safe place for everyone, and I loved feeling safe even through purely fictional characters. 🙌

I remember discovering this book on Wattpad and literally always coming back to it. 95% of the characters in this story are such amazingly written human beings. I’m genuinely so glad that we get to have the uncensored version again, this time without a risk to disappear !

I could go on and on about this book, but I’d probably lose most of you along the way. :p

Thank you to the author for bringing my safe-haven book back to life. ❤️

Now time for me to head back to Wattpad, where Book 2 is waiting for me! 🏃‍♀️

P.S : It's not explicitly mentioned in the blurb but some TW's are to be taken into account before getting into this story :
- Homophobia
- Conversion Therapy
- Mention of SA
It's not that deep, but better safe than sorry !

Favorite Quotes 🔰
She was the antidote to all of the poisonous things my mind could create when left unattended.

There was still so much I wanted to learn about her, she was my favorite book and my favorite painting all at once.

"Your mom Amelia would die to give you this talk, "She joked. "And your mom Laura would die, period."

I smiled at the sunrise over the woods. The purples and the greens mixed with the blues and the white speckles. I would've never seen it without her. Sadie made me see all the colors.

Sadie Gordon always found her way. And she deserved it. She deserved way more than what she got.
