The CIA’s Most Controversial Operations: The History of the Central Intelligence Agency’s Notorious Activities in the 20th Century
Though it might be hard to believe, the Americans did not have a covert operations organization when they joined World War II, and like the British, it took them some time to realize it could be a powerful tool. As a result, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was not established until June 13, 1942, six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Voices within the Pentagon, State Department, and White House all opposed the establishment of this new and untested organization that would carry out activities normally considered unacceptable, so officials within the OSS had to fight for the very existence of the organization, battling through layers of bureaucracy to get the resources he needed and ensure its independence of action. They also worked hard to justify the use of covert tactics in warfare, to the extent that its leader, William “Wild Bill” Donovan, cited precedents that stretched back to the Bible.
In time, all the hard work led to the growth of the OSS into an organization with over 13,000 staff and 40 offices scattered across the world. Its purposes were initially similar to that of Britain’s Special Operations Executive, including espionage, sabotage, and intelligence assessments, but with time and experience, it expanded to include economic, psychological, and guerrilla warfare, as well as counter-intelligence work. And of course, it would all chart a path for the early days of America’s most famous intelligence agency, the CIA.
The agency has done some good things, and it has inarguably done some bad things. Naturally, people tend to remember the most controversial operations, from CIA-funded revolutions to the Bay of Pigs and domestic experiments such as the mysterious Project MK-Ultra. Many decisions were made, either by the agency or by those elected to give the agency direction, in the raw emotions of the Cold War, and this also colored many of the decisions. Regardless, well after Allen Dulles’ tenure as the CIA’s director, investigations uncovered the facts that the CIA did not merely operate overseas, but also conducted several operations against American citizens, which Dulles both knew about and approved.
This book looks at the operations that continue to fascinate, confuse, and disgust modern society, from the people who managed the operations to the results.

I mean straight up evil people doing evil things in the name of the United States!
Excuse me??? Spraying pathogens over cities like San Diego for tests, what is wrong with them fr. Other secret bacterial agents “operation bacterium” being sprayed in general US population cities as an “open air lab” such as nyc, multiple other cities in states such as Florida, alaska, Pennsylvania, etc in airports, turn pikes, subways, bus stations etc.
literally biological weapon testing on our own ppl and cities✨
Racist, incompetent, simply bad liars?? Rlly loved to push “this country is going communist” when just having leftist views or not exactly aligning with US power or money gains in the region…
Just a few countries we’ve fucked in our path to power Indonesia, Guatemala, Iran, Cuba, Chile, etc, etc, etc!
I mean really some of their plans and ideas are so silly. Because of Castros popularity in Cuba especially among workers, students, and the poor, due to promised social reforms like free education and healthcare, but later diminished due to economic hardship (impact of US embargo’s) and much more. We tried so many things to take him down Bay of Pigs, Operation Mongoose, Sprinkling radioactive material on shoes for hair loss to minimize castros masculinity (therefore diminish his popularity), spiking his food with drugs to make him act irrationally, poison his cigars, poison drinks, etc etc…
On top of messing with American media and pushing propaganda, they’ve crafted plans to attack American citizens then make it look like another country did it, just so they have the justification to go to war with other countries.
So in case you ever think “The US government wouldn’t do that”… lol yes they would.
Makes conspiracy theorist less crazy sounding bc they rlly be doing some crazy shit!
