The Chocolate Chip Cookie Code: A Cozy Culinary Mystery

Rate this book
In a small-town bakery, where secrets are as rich as the chocolate chips, the only thing sweeter than the cookies is the revenge.

When Layla Cole returns to her hometown of Grand Cavern to save her late aunt Margie’s beloved bakery, she expects to find recipes—not revelations. But buried beneath the scent of warm cookies and the clatter of mixing bowls lies a trail of deception, betrayal, and a secret “peace recipe” that some would kill to keep hidden.

Margie wasn’t just a baker; she was the leader of a quiet rebellion against the Mathis family, a powerful dynasty that built their empire on stolen recipes and fear. With her aunt’s old ledger and an enigmatic map of the town, Layla stumbles onto a legacy of courage—and a list of names that could crack the Mathis empire wide open.

But Caleb Mathis, the family’s ruthless heir, has other plans. Charming yet venomous, he’s determined to protect his family’s secrets at all costs, even if it means shutting down Layla’s bakery—and her investigation—for good.

With a rolling pin-wielding best friend, a reluctant ally with tech skills, and a town full of suspicious characters, Layla is in a race against time to decode the clues, expose the truth, and protect her aunt’s legacy. As the ovens heat up and tensions rise, Layla will discover that the final ingredient to justice isn’t in the recipe—it’s in the courage to face the past.

Cozy mystery meets culinary intrigue in this sweet and suspenseful tale of chocolate chip cookies, small-town secrets, and the battle for justice. Perfect for fans of Joanne Fluke and culinary cozy mysteries with a twist!

A story of bravery and fighting a corrupt family who are a blight on the town. I mostly enjoyed the story except for how the heroes would get a clue and be sent to the Library, the next clue would send them to the Café and they were kept going from the library or the café over and over again. It seemed unlikely that the clues would have them running back and forth instead of having half the information at each place. But then that would no doubt make it a very short story. There are some interesting characters and situations.

The book had opportunities. The MC group are trying to crack the code for who is destroying town - Sounds okay.

My main issue was - This clue sends them to Library; This clue sends to Cafe; This clue sends them to Library; This clue sends to Cafe; This clue sends them to Library; This clue sends to Cafe. Back and forth with little variation.

The deeper information had some value but the back and forth was irritating.

A story of courage and friends fighting a villain family that are a blight on the small town. The writing is a little disjointed with one statement used over and over again
